  If the Vista Ultimate is a full retail product and then install it here.  You may need to use telephone activation, but this isn't a problem.
   
  If it is a Vista Ultimate upgrade version, you must have an operating system that is valid for upgrade and without a preinstalled OS or a license for the new computer "legally" impossible to install the upgrade version.
   
  XP OEM license for the old system died with the old system and cannot be used for the new computer as a qualifier for an upgrade.

  If you cannot use this method because what did your friend, your options are...

  • Pay Sony for media recovery
  • A base Windows installation followed by installing specific Sony drivers and software from their Web site.

  If you walk down the road of the latter, I would say that, if possible, before you begin reinstalling Windows you download at least the Ethernet drivers and wireless and save in, for example, a USB key. Start your drivers to search for them (and other) here...

  Your principled stand against Sony charges for media recovery is, in my opinion, wrong. As I already said twice...

  My serious recommendation is to accept a fee of Sony for the recovery media. It will make life much simpler for you.   I just got a laptop with Vista Business replacement and no system disk.  I downloaded and installed all of the 200 + windows vista updates including Service pack 2.  Now I'm doing a system recovery on DVD disks before starting the arduous task of reinstalling all my programs and data files, but I keep receiving the error message 0 x 80780119 not enough disk space to create the volume shadow copy on the storage location... and storage 0x8004231F insufficient to create either storage copy shadow file or other shadow copy data.

  Following the advice I found on another forum of Vista, I resized memory Ghost by using this command, vssadmin Resize ShadowStorage / For = C: / On = C: / MaxSize = 30 GB, who apparently has apparently solved this problem for others, but does not work for me.

  OK, I solved the problem.  I still have questions using my PayPal account, but now I'm able to use my credit card.

  Here's what I did:

  1. Open the app Store
  2. Press the Windows key + C, then select settings
  3. Select the option menu: your account
  4. Select "Change user", then to connect to ANOTHER account. (I tried to simply connect to the same account again, and it did not work)
  5. Select the Add payment option (which should now work and load a menu)
  6. Close the menu and return to your old account using Exchange User
  7. Click on add payment option once again, it should now really open. (Assuming it wasn't before, that, for me, it wasn't)
  8. It will now allow you to add a payment, and I suggest strongly that add you payment options you have currently listed there.  I think there is a problem with the PayPal accounts in particular.
  9. Buy your favorite again, applications finally.
  10. Fact.

  My PayPal account still does not work after that.  Well, I think it has something to do with the settings "preferred payment method" Paypal.  It might be interesting to contact PayPal on this subject, because I am able to use regular credit cards perfectly well after this "correction".
