Core 2 duo powered only 997 mhz at full load

Hi my new / used thinkpad t60 core 2 duo t2400 1.8 ghz will run only 997 mhz even at full load I disabled speedstep in bios, power management is set to maximum performance and still it doesn't work the clock speed even at 100% load.

Thank you for the research

PS. your not a 64-bit Intel Core 2 duo processor T2400 is a 32-bit core duo cpu. You can switch to the Core 2 duo, as long as you have a recent update of the bios installed.

But however I'm confused about the difference between 'Processor Intel multicore' vs 'Core 2 Duo' and hearing stories CS5 works not properly in similar situations because of hardware problems.

    Hi LMDV,

    Welcome to the community!

Intel multi-core processor, also known as the Dual core processor is required to run the CS5 or CS5.5, you have the Core 2 Duo which is better then Dual core and enough to run CS5 and CS5.5 applications. You just need to check the other requirements of system that is mentioned here:

My I Mac computer is older than 6 years and became slower and slower.  I added the memory once in the past which has contributed to the speed.  He was clocked at 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo for a processor and memory is 4 GB 800 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.  I wonder if I it is better to buy more memory or if the computer needs to be replaced, it still works very well for email and working on small documents, but it is really slow and crashes when working with images and large files.  Any advice is welcome.

Currently using iMac 2007 Yosemite 10.10.5 with 2 GB 667 mhz ddr 2 with 2.4 ghz core 2 duo with intel that I should upg at El Capitan.  Very slow system.  This improvement will speed up?

In my opinion, unless you upgrade the RAM 6 GB. You can get a kit of RAM 6 GB OWC (www.macsales.com) or you can get a DIMM 4 GB + 2 GB of Crucial (direct purchase) and update the RAM. Your machine likely a 2x1GB DIMMS installed, however if she doesn't 1x2GB DIMM installed everything you need is a 4 GB DIMMS. Once you upgrade the RAM, then you can upgrade to El Capitan, when you upgrade, I think you'll be an improvement in performance. Although technically El Capitan (and Yosemite) will run on 2 GB, the user experience should be quite poor.

    Good luck.

    Hi pedababu,.

Step 1: Download and install the latest chipset drivers.
    a. visit the manufacturer of the system or the site of manufacturer of device to download and install drivers from the chipset.
    b. once the driver is installed, restart the computer and check the difference.

Step 2: We recommend that you check if the processor information is displayed correctly in the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System). Generally the ability of multiple base option must be enabled in the BIOS.

We recommend that you contact the manufacturer of the system to correct the BIOS settings.

NOTE: Changing the BIOS settings incorrectly can cause serious damage to your computer.

  • Core 2 Duo T9300 instead of on Satellite A200-1SM T5550?

    Hello.
I was wondering if it might be possible to install a faster processor (workpiece is T5550 clocked at 1, 83GHz, 667 MHz bus) such as the Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 @2, bus to 50 GHz, 800 MHz (Penryn 45nm).

Motherboard is based on the chipset Intel GM965 & ICH8M controller. In the docs found in the Intel web site, there is information, that this processor is supported by PM965 & GM965 for. I also found a laptop based on smart GM965 and was equipped with T9300 (the producer of this model has HP).

So is it possible to remove my old CPU and put for example T9300 or any other CPU C2D latest?

I tried upgrading a laptop CPU once, but it didn't work. I think that the BIOS is responsible for the latest CPU, otherwise it does not start.

In addition, you must be careful of heat dissipation. If you install a hotter CPU in your laptop, cooling fan may not be powerful enough to cool the CPU.

Your best option would be to install a processor more fast which is available in high-end A200.

His quiet old, so my questions are:

    1. the question of whether I should upgrade my processor or buy a new one (or another desktop computer / laptop)?  My rule of thumb is do not upgrade the processor unless the speed is almost doubled.  I don't think that the performance will be enough to justify the increased cost.

2 and if there is a possibility of an upgrade, then can evolve this processor to the 2nd genration i3/5/7? This is supported by HP CPU upgrades: see below.

    3. I like to play games, and I have only 256 MB Nvidia graphics card. Can I level too? If so, then how?  The first thing to determine is the power of the power supply unit (PSU).  I think that it can be only 250W.  You can open the case and read the label on.  Latest maps of intermediate level require at least 400W.  So, if my guess is correct, you will need to upgrade the PSU also.  I like the graphics cards XFX, BFG, EVGA, Sapphire and PNY in that order.  I love OCZ and Corsair PSU.

With this information, you can determine if you need to upgrade or buy a new computer.  If you decide to buy a new computer, I suggest a desktop computer for games.  They run a lot cooler.  Be sure to buy one with the power supply with the most power possible.  The PSU is the backbone of the computer.  If you have any other questions, let me know.

    Thanks in advance!

  • What is the best, pentium 3.2 GHz or Core 2 Duo

Hello. I want to play a game that requires a pentium 4 3.2 GHz or more powerful. I have an Intel (r) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU T5550 1.83 GHz 1.83 GHz. Don't know much about computers and want to know I can play it until I open it. Thank you.

Please get/run CPU - Z and validate the exact model of your older Pentium processor

    http://www.CPUID.com/softwares/CPU-z.html

In general, the Core 2 Duo will be better than the old Pentium processors even to clock speeds really low.  Pass provides a list of very basic to show you the overall performance of different processors:

    http://www.cpubenchmark.NET/common_cpus.html

as you can see in the graph, pass mark means that even an Intel Core2 Duo T5500 1.66 GHz outperforms an Intel Pentium D @ 3.40 GHz.  It is radical enough that a Core 2 Duo is good; Unfortunately, you have to take into account the fact that Passmark is probably represents a certain part of multi-threaded performance results.   Many people do not get to use all the cores of their processors multi-threaded performance is not always indicative of performance in the real world.  A much more realistic (but harder to read) reference is provided by SPEC [1]:

    1. Goto http://www.spec.org/cgi-bin/osgresults?conf=cpu2006
    2. Change the drop-down list to the processor
    3. Type "Pentium D" in the text box of Matches
    4. Click on the button "run Simple extraction.
    5. Recording an average baseline CFP2006 results for your processor speed (assuming that you have and old Pentium D)
    6. Repeat 1-5 for Core 2

When I do that, I get a threaded Floating Point single rate of about 11 for a Pentium D @ 3.2 and 11 for a Core 2 Duo @ 1.86.  So, if I read the SPEC benchmarks (this may be difficult), the only threaded execution of a Pentium D @ 3.2 is about the same as a Core 2 Duo @ 1.86.  So I guess it's a draw one way or the other, but many games these days become multi-threaded, another factor may be the measure of CFP2006 rate which is (multi-threaded).   When I do that, I get a multithreaded Point rates covered with approximately 18.9 for a Pentium D @ 3.2 and 19.6 for a Core 2 Duo @ 1.86.  So the Core 2 duo wins by a small margin.

To make a long story short, I guess as a Pentium D @3.2 and Core 2 Duo @ 1.86 are substantially the same, but I guess your old Pentium is a Pentium d this could be a Pentium oldest as a single core Pentium or old hyper threaded Pentium (hack), so that the Core 2 Duo could give you gains of performance still more.  In addition, Core 2 Duo will expected to run more cold than the old Pentium so school if you're a serious games, you might want to consider to make a Core 2 Duo, just so you won't have to worry about your thermal alarm is going so.

Finally, you can get better answers post this kind of question to Tom's Hardware:

    http://www.TomsHardware.com

These guys really take benchmarking seriously! ...

[1] - for games, you often care about decimal floating results unless you have a graphics processor really killer/physical and that you only use your main processor for Artificial Intelligence.

  • T500 P8600 (2.40 Ghz) Core speed problems - works only in 1, 6 GHz (6 x multiplier)?

    Hello

I'm new here and I hope you can help!

    System specs

    Lenovo T500 (2081-CTO)

CPU: Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo P8600 2.40 GHz

    RAM: 6 GB DDR3 PC3-8500 (2 GB + 4 GB Hynix halogen)

    BIOS Lenovo: 3.13 - 1.06 (March 2010)

Operating systems: Windows 7, 64 bit

    Battery: Yes

    Power: 90W installed

Power setting: maximum performance; Max CPU speed: more top [ThinkVantage Power Manager 3.12]

Setting BIOS: Intel SpeedStep disabled; Everest EU 5.50 confirms: C1E & EIST are both: "supported, disabled.

All Lenovo drivers are up to date *.

    ---

Problem: Base speed is blocked at 1.6Ghz (multiplier x 6.0) and only fluctuates several Mhz from time to time. I think it should be fixed at 2.40 Ghz, I have disabled all the settings save CPU speed.

Basic speed (1.60 Ghz) conforms to:

    -Everest Ultimate Edition 5.50

    -CPU - Z 64 bit 1.54

    -Intel Processor Identification Utility 4.22.20100224

All of these are the @2 P9800. 40 Ghz is clocked at 1.6 Ghz or 1.59 Ghz.

I ran the load/stress test, Super-Pi etc... and obsevered the basic speed - it never changes or is greater than 1.6 Ghz.

Super Pi takes 31 seconds, where landmarks on a normal P8600 2.40 Ghz see the this should be done in 20 years.

I have read several threads in these forums and tried all the things suggested:

Example of Lenovo Forum Thread 1

Example of Lenovo Forum Thread 2

I even tried affecting performance Max CPU speed to "Adaptive", and yet, it does not go beyond 1.6 Ghz.

Can anyone suggest other things I can do to make sure that it is not a problem? I thought I bought a 2.40 GHz, not a 1.6 Ghz.

I have several more months remaining warranty, contact Lenovo to return my CPU? or is it a fault in Lenovo BIOS?

Intel speed step must be enabled.  If you read what it says in the bios, if it is off then they processor will not let the State of the minimum speed.  This is the case on my T510.

    Give it a try.
