Correct use of Lightroom clipping indicators

Indicators of clipping in Lightroom show when one or all channels are cut in the shadows or highlights, but I've seen them used in two ways:

  1. Use them as an indicator of when you have pure white / black as well as a range of tones is comprehensive in both shadow and highlight clipping indicators show (although maybe only a small number of pixels will actually cut.
  2. Use them as an indicator of when you have gone too far, so when a clipping indicator shows, the user back slightly, so for a range of tones complete the white and black points will be just before the onset of clipping indicators.

So who is correct? They indicate a value has been pushed back beyond maximum (or minimum) or that a value is to the minimum or maximum?

I asked the same question about photography Exchange battery, and here's the most obvious answer of Abdul N Quraishi:

When you are looking to place a maximum point of black or white, both scenarios, you mention can be regarded as good or bad as they both provide an indication only.

If develop for export in jpeg format for display on the monitor, then the triangle in the histogram turning to white will not any notable effect on your image.

However, if you are developing for print, then any pixel that is blown, will not be printed. The printer can print white and it will be immediately noticeable on paper.

To return to the histogram, clipping occurs by stages, and if you look at the indicator, before turning to white, it can turn, rose, yellow, Cyan etc. indicating what clips of first channel.

with some types of images, for example, prints, textiles or jewellery, it is imperative to understand that this process of the first cut of channel can start when the RGB pixel value reached 242/245, but the triangle will turn not white up to 255, how, there is a loss of detail.

The way to properly judge the values of the pixels of the image is to market the Soft Proofing in LR. This will then you hover over your image and see the RGB values under the histogram graph properly and thus, help you manage your points black and white more effectively to ensure that there is no clipping.

Therefore, the answer to your question which is correct?

Scenario 1 can be used when developing for the display on the monitor only

Scenario 2 is best suited when developing for printing.

And finally, the answer to your question, they mean or more, the response is completed. If you wait until the triangle to whiten, you have already lost a few details.

    I already bought and installed 5 Lightroom a year ago. However on the Adobe website they offer 5 Lightroom and Photoshop CC as a package of $9.00. I was wondering if I bought the monthly subscription, if I could cancel and always use Lightroom 5 program I have installed if I decide to cancel.

    Hi Patrick,

    At any time if you decide to cancel the subscription of creative cloud (plan $9.99), you will always be able to use the Lightroom 5 stand-alone program that you purchased.

    But with creative cloud subscription, you get a free upgrade to Lightroom to the current version which is Lightroom CC/6. If you upgrade your Lightroom CC catalog with the subscription and then, you wouldn't be able to downgrade this to Lightroom 5 catalog later.

  • Correct use of snapshots

    Hello

    I would like to have comments about the correct way to use snapshots.

    Currently, I have a server ESXi 3.5 with 4 virtual machines.

    I use snapshots as follows:

    -J' still have 1 snapshot taken for each virtual computer

    -J' have regularly (before the size of the snapshot becomes too large) remove the snapshot and just after, take a new snapshot for each virtual machine

    -I will soon be able to make a backup of my virtual machines, but I don't now

    I recently started to monitor the size of my virtual machines, and they become several GB in just a few days.

    I wonder if it is efficient to always have a snapshot on each virtual machine.

    I'm starting to think maybe this snapshot should be taken just before to make a change on the server (installation of the software or other) to return to the State that we had before the operation, in the case where he's going poorly, then remove the snapshot after we have confirmed the operation went well, but should not exist at all times.

    Your comments are welcome! Thank you!

    Yann

    The snapshots are NOT backup anyway. If you use instant as replacement of backup then

    (1) you lose a costly storage space

    (2) that you have less reliable

    (3) you generate disk load high commit when snapshots

    What is the correct use of the snasphots:

    (1) you need to install a patch on your virtual machine

    (2) take the snapshot

    (3) install the patch

    (4) monitor behaviour of the system in case of patch broke something for awhile

    (5) commit instant if everything is ok, or go back to the snapshot if something bad happened.

  • Correct use of setControllerFactory in FXMLLoader?

    Hello

    I'm trying to load a node FXML using my own controller using JavaFX 2.1 included in the JDK 7u4.
    All discussions point to the setControllerFactory method, but when I try to apply the code below, the plant is never called leaving the node without the controller.
    (the FXML does not set the fx:controller).

    I've probably missed the correct use, but I can't understand. A tip?
     private Node loadNodeWithCtrl(final Object instance, String fxmlPath, ResourceBundle rb) {
            URL url = this.getClass().getResource(fxmlPath);
            FXMLLoader fxmlLoader = new FXMLLoader(url, rb);
            fxmlLoader.setControllerFactory(new Callback<Class<?>, Object>() {

                @Override
                public Object call(Class<?> paramClass) {
                    // Never reached <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
                    Logger.getLogger(this.getClass().getName()).log(Level.INFO, "Using provided controller");
                    return instance;
                }
            });

            try {
                Node node = (Node) fxmlLoader.load();
                return node;
            } catch (IOException ex) {
                Logger.getLogger(this.getClass().getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
            }
            return null;
        }
    Concerning

    Jean-Michel

    This is the correct behavior. Controller factories provide a way for an application to customize the construction of controllers specified via the fx:controller attribute. If you do not use fx:controller, then the controller factory will not be called.

  • Help please - component video using the same clip several times

    Hi people,

    I have a 9 minute video I want to cut into pieces and make a 3 min video. I searched the help system and Forum, but found nothing - very probably (not being is not a native speaker) looking for the wrong keywords.

    How can I add the same clip several times to a movie? If that has been resolved, I could do the rest with setting- and outpoints and would.

    Thank you in advance.

    Christoph

    You can place the clip on the timeline and use the Split Clip (small scissors under the monitor icon) to split your clip. Place the cursor where you want to trim your clip, and then click the icon of the scissors. Move the cursor to the next position, and then click the icon of the scissors again. Then press DELETE on your keyboard and that article will be deleted and the gap will be closed. If you wish, you can take small sections, you created and drag them around to change their positions.

    Once you have edited your clip, you can export the section 3 minutes as a DV - AVI to use repeatedly in your video. All you need to do to export is file > export > Movie. If you have several clips on your timeline you must place the work area bar (WAB), the gray bar above the timeline, on the section that you want to export. Then in the window export movie go into settings and for the beach, select work area bar.

    You can then reimport the 3 minute clip in your project and use it as many times as you want.

  • Correction of the Lightroom 2015.6 goal does not automatically detect lens

    Hello

    The last update seems to have removed the lens correction option activate in the lens correction Panel (there are three check boxes, now there are only two).

    Now when I check activate profile corrections, or the auto default options are able to detect the lens I used to take the picture. Lightroom has said that it is "impossible to locate a matching profile automatically.

    When I manually select the lens seems to apply appropriate adjustments. But I really don't want to have to select the brand and model whenever I want to apply the correction manually, especially considering I shoot with different objectives.

    Is there a setting I need to change so that Lightroom automatically detects the lens used, or is this a bug?

    I shoot with a Canon 6 d. When I check the EXIF data in the module library all the relevant information is still there, lens of the camera body used etc.

    Thank you

    Matt

    LR CC 2015.6 using, I can import a 6 d test image I downloaded from the internet, enable Auto or defect in the purpose of plant and it detects the lens this particular test image was taken with:

    If you want to download an example image that does not work for you to www.dropbox.com then others can take a look to check if there is a problem with the LR or something that happens on your computer.

  • Edited in Photoshop does not correctly display in Lightroom after recording the images

    Hello

    I recvently EU cloud Adobe and upgraded from Lightroom 3 or 4.  Since the upgrade I had problems with Lightroom not correctly display images edited in Photoshop.  Instead of the photoshop image, it creates a new jpeg image and appears in the library.  the PSD is not loaded into the library.

    I take a jpeg image of my library and shoosing the change based on Photoshop.  By selecting Edit a copy, I'm tried with the original and edit a copy with lightroom adjustments as well as with the same results.

    In Photoshop, I duplicate the base layer, the image upscaling, running some filters, addition of volunteering adjustment layers.

    I save the image in Photoshop format in the original folder where the original jpeg was in the Lightroom library.  I record with maximize compatibility on.

    When I return to Lightroom, the catalog displays the two files, the original jpeg and a copy identical to it, NOT the new file in photoshop with alterations.  If I go in the folder images occupy in the Finder using the Finder command show two images link to the same original jpeg format.  The modified file to photoshop is there in the folder but does not appear in Lightroom unless I drag and drop it.

    I've disabled all the filters and ensured that the sort is sort by name.  The image does not automatically appears in Lightroom after mounting.  Any suggestions?

    Thanks for any help!

    PS. I'm not looking for the subject, and there are discussions since 2007 and lightroom 2 but their solution was to start from scratch basically and I have a carefully labeled, starred and labeled catalog of more than 30 000 images and really don't want to do that

    Images that are edited in Photoshop will be displayed automatically in Lr only when the image file saved in Photoshop is identical to open LR.

    You say you open a jpg of Lr, then edit in PS-among other things-adding a few layers. Layers are not supported in JPG format, so you must either save it as a psd or a copy in jpg.

    In both cases, is not the same image as the one opened in Lr file, so it will have to be imported into Lr appears. If flatten you your image after editing in PS and then do a to your JPG - not a - it will be displayed in Lr.

    PS: the only exception is when you open a raw image from Lr into PS and you save it to PS in the format of file specified in Lr for external mounting. The saved file is automatically displayed in LR.

  • Video rendering error 10008 when using PNG on clip

    As soon as I add a PNG above a video clip, it fails when I try to make. It gives the error code 10008 is. I tried several png. If you add in front of a video, it will work fine. As soon as you try to use the same image over the video (using a logo for example), it fails as stated above. This means that I'm not able to add a logo watermark to videos.

    Please notify.

    Thank you.

    A simple alternative is to put your watermark on a green or blue background as a pdf file, then use the green/blue screen installation.

    I remember reports that contain PNG used to ensure transparency in photo - images to have exactly the same dimensions of the pixel as the setting of the project, for example, 1920 x 1080 full HD.  However, if this were not the case, I thought they still made, but have been converted to PDF, if transparency does not.

  • Cannot use the XAVC clips in AVID

    Hi guys,.

    last week, we had a few images with our new F5. We recorded in the XAVC format both in IMX50.

    Wanting to scan on our AVID MC6.5 it the clips IMX50 did well, but the XAVC clips were not recognized, even if it has been installed the new plugin PDZK-MA2.

    I tried several options:

    -Link WADA: clip appeared in my sandbox, but clicking on it gave due to error in the Viewer: CORE_CONSISTENCY_CHECK_FAILURE and SWDecodeCvtr::ExecuteRequest() CONSISTENCY CHECK FAILED.

    -Clip import: I imagine that only the WADA is possible for XAVC binding, but I tried to import and got following error: Exception: MXFImport: unrecognized XDCAM - resolution.

    I tried several settings of project: 1080i/50, 1080 p/25, 720 p/25, but all with the same results.

    Additional information:

    Workstation: HP Z400_V2, Windows 7 Service Pack 1

    Thank you for your help.

    What is HD or 4K XAVC? The 4K is not currently supported. Avid does not have any native 4 k. We are able to work with 4 k Raw, because with the help of our first AMA Avid plugin does an extraction k 2 k or 1 as soon as the files are linked, without having to first decode each clip in its entirety. We cannot do this with Avid codec files will first have to decode all the videos that would be cripplingly time CPU. We recommend that you use daily Express or Resolve or another compatible system daily to create DNX files for editorial for 4K XAVC.

    If it is HD XAVC, can you confirm that you are using Media Composer/Symphony 6 or 6.5 with MA2 v 2.31 installed? If so, post the link of the AMA you see at least the first image to drop you the clip in the source monitor Panel? The error seems to or otherwise related to the system memory. If you quit / relaunch Avid this will release any Avid system memory could not have released other recent operations. You can try this?

    You are right in that the XAVC clips must be bound to the WADA. XDCAM 50 can be linked to the WADA or file--> imported according to the needs...

    If none of the above brand success please let us know how much RAM you have on the system and format/pace of the clips you are trying from the WADA.

  • Using aliases for the indicators, controls, procedures and calculated channels

    Hello

    I noticed that aliases do not appear in the workspace for the controls and indicators and procedures system Explorer and see calculated. Is there a way for them to appear? I need to use aliases because I like my definition of the system to control several test systems (which have different CAN report names). Otherwise my system definition would break every time I go to another CAN the database. I thought that the inability to address limited to the configurable alias controls add on, but it seems that VeriStand natively cannot address the areas I would like to also well done right click. Any recommendations would be welcome.

    Thank you.

    You are right that you cannot use alias in a file system definition for mapping purposes. It is an area that we hope to improve in the future. The initial design of alias was to serve as a public interface for the workspace, profiles of stimulus and so on. However, it is certainly a use case valid to be used as an interface in a system definition.

    A possible solution would be to create a set of user channels that play the public role of your interface in your system definition. Always use your user channels in all procedures, calculated channels and so on. Map your CAN channels on these channels to the user. Whenever you update YOUR database, you must remap the new CAN channels to the appropriate user channel. You can also automate this activity by importing a file delimited by tabs on the mappings page. The one drawback here is that your target will take a little more time to deal with these mappings.

  • Control of data using multiple thermocouples via indicators and the waveform in real-time

    I apologize in advance for this question is probably a bit simple but I'm all new to labview and the forum and could use some advice. I have a CompaqDAQ with two 9213 16 modules of track and I'm trying to read in 30 thermocouples in a waveform, but also display 30 indicators so I can mark each indicator with the thermocouple for real-time tracking. Each thermocouple corresponds to a specific location and it is essential that the interface has an accurate indication or a label for each of them. I wonder if there is an easy way to do this in addition to split the signal and have 30 thermometers on my diagram? Perhaps a table any? If I use a table to create 30 thermometers, the DAQ assistant automatically sorts the thermocouples according to ascending numerical order. For example, would be the indicators of first and second on my interface automatically assigned to channels a0 and a1 of the first module, or should I do it manually? Even for the waveform?  Thank you very much!

    PS - Do not know if this message had need of more details, but let me know if more information is needed, and I'll give you!

    I see that you use the DAQ Assistant to create your task.  Now I understand why you may have about labelling.  It is easy of the seller NOR spiel booting...  But in any case, you already have a task to the MAX instead of use the DAQ Assistant?  The interface is similar and there may be a step or two, but your end application will be more effective and you will have more options with your data and properties.  For example, I tried to update the names of physical channel in the DAQ Assistant installation program, that it let you do, but it propagates that change forward to waveform chart legend.  Also, I don't know any property for this dynamic data type node, although I never use it either.  I suggest the setting up of your task and channels, Max if you'd give it a go.

    Since I thought I didn't really takes you all the way with you help, I wrote another one.  It uses a cluster, even if it's a bit barbaric.  I thought that there was a more eloquent way to do by changing labels, but I could not it works as I had expected.
