Corrupt zip file association

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium.  I accidentally associated all zip Notepad files.  I tried "assoc .zip = CompressedFolder" to restore by default but that did not work.  Currently, when I double-click a zip file Notepad file opens with a bunch of gibberish.  Thanks for your help.

This utility will allow you to remove the current, incorrect association for .zip files:

Once this is done, you can fix the association for the correct action occurs through the correction on this page:

  • zip files are running rampid!

When I try to open a file Explorer zip becomes crazy and opens over and over and over again.  I can not stop it without stopping and restarting my computer manually.  I can't stop even opening windows using the Task Manager.  What is going on?

I don't know if it will work, but it almost sounds like she is ready to open through Explorer and opens, see the ZIP file, opens again and stuck in an infinite loop.

Can you try to restore ZIP file association http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/105/1/File-association-fixes-for-Windows-Vista.html the article and see if it works?

  • display zip files... what should I do now to see the content of my zip file?

Sir ihave downloaded songs on the internet that is downloaded as a zip file format... and I have change the path of the zip opening and is open with internet explore form.and, now when I open my file zip my scenn begin to blink heavlyy after that I have to do my computer turn off or restart...

What should I do now to see the content of my zip file?

    Please help me...

You must extract the files zip first and then open it with a program that can open that particular file type.  So in this case, even if you use Internet Explorer to download files, you must use Vista to extract to the desktop (downloads or music where ever you choose) by right-clicking on the download, unzip the folder and create a new folder with the decompressed files and then you can use WMP or any program you use to play the songs.  But it does not work because of the changes that you did - but we can fix that easily enough.  It happens quite often with many different programs (ZIP especialliy because a lot of people care less about the ZIP of Vista program and cause problems in trying to change).  I suggest that you pay attention to what we're about to do what it will be probably useful more than once to you later for other types of files (I use it often, but I use it often when I install a new program and do not have default values, he created).  Although the first procedure is for most of the types of special system files and so generally used only for repairs (with the exception of ZIP), the second (if you actually need to use it) works with all other types of files.  I recommend that you create a new folder in the Favorites, called "File Association Changes" and add these links so that they will be easy to find if you need again.

Here, the first thing we need to do is Zip file association fix it back to Vista of Internet Explorer.  Go to:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/22/reset-and-fix-broken-windows-vista-file-ext-and-type-associations-include-exe-com-sys-zip-lnk-folder-drive/ and scroll down to ZIP and then click or double-click on it to run the program that will reset the association back to its default values.  If you don't like the Vista Zip program, I recommend trying 7 - Zip free but excellent:http://www.7-zip.org/.  If you wish, set as the default zip file by using the following:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/20/how-to-edit-or-change-file-type-or-extension-associations-default-programs-in-windows-vista/.  If you wish, you can add send to 7 - Zip to the right-click context menu as follows:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67599-send-context-menu.html.

Once, when you find a zipped song you want, download it to the desktop or wherever you choose and use the 7-Zip program (depending on what you set as the default value) is the Vista to unzip the file, and then save the decompressed everywhere song where please.  You will now be able to play with any player you who manages songs with this type of file (if you click twice on the song, it should open the default program and start playing automatically).  Now you can do what you want with the original zip file you have now the actual file - you can save it if you want (although I don't see why you need to do when you have the actual file) or you can simply remove as needed.

That's all. The problem should be solved and you must use the program ZIP Vista or 7 - Zip to unzip all zipped files or folders (downloaded or received as attachments to emails, or transferred by a flashdrive or however obtained).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • When opening a zip file, get error message file is not in zip format or file is corrupted

I downloaded a zip file of the interenet and when I try to open an error message keeps coming up that it is not th file in zip format or the file is corrupted, I use zip easy to try to open the file.

    Hello

Its probably a bad zip as it says, corrupt. Or it could be a file format that is not ZIP, was
renamed with the ZIP extension. Try to use 7 - Zip to open the file. Try it on another computer.

  • In the associated file zip file is missing. How to restore?

    Hello

My OS is Vista Home Premium SP2.

Recently, I confused a zip for a .rar file.  I changed the file association by default for zip to a rar program that I downloaded.  When I discovered my mistake I deleted the default rar to zip file program.  Subsequently every zip file I extracted gave rise to a simple white icon with the name of the file, and when you click on products a popup that read Windows could not open the file.  When I checked the associations to file again, I discovered .zfsendtotarget with a plain white icon and unknown Application as default file and no Zip file.

I found a Microsoft article in Google which offers the download file Association Fixer to fix the default value of the zip file.  After reboot everything was as it had been.  Another suggested article I'm doing a sfc/scannow high that would find and fix and Vista issues.  I did the scannow but he pointed out that he has not found any breach of integrity.

I hesitate a moment lost and to be honest to try something more because of my limited computer knowledge.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

You have no need to set the binding for 7-zip.

Once you have installed, right-click on a compressed file... 7-zip will be on the list from the context menu, click on it... Click on extract files... just follow the guests to complete the extraction.

    It's very simple. Try again.

  • Winndows vista restore file association extensions .zip and .zipx

June 14, 2011, I received an email with an attachment of zipx that I couldn't open because windows vista forced me to create a file association.

How can I delete / cancel these supra 2 file association?

    Thank you

    Hi David,

You can associate the .zip files back to open with Windows Explorer. We will check if the following is useful.

    a. right click on the ZIP file.

    b. Select Open with. Check if you find Windows Explorer.

    c. If found, click Select, and then click OK.

    d. If not, click Browse.

    e. go to C:\Windows and select Windows Explorer. Place a check on always use the selected program to open this type of file.

    f. click Ok. This should solve the problem.

  • Windows associated .cab a zip file and not a .cab file

Someone is trying to install a simple VBA program that I wrote, but it does not work because (apparently) the file .cab appears in his file as a Zip file manager. The Setup file so asks to insert a disk, because it apparently does not recognize the .cab file in a .cab file. What is the procedure to change the file association?

Sounds like it didn't clear the box (which should clear by default as a security measure) when he

use the option 'Open' or 'Open with' option to explore, or otherwise dispose of a file and changed the default file association.

Apparently the possibility to restore file associations has been hampered by changes in XP vs Win7, so you

you will need to make a fix via the registry.

  • File corrupted when decompressin names or you to browse zip files/folders

I get filenames truncated in particular on most Japanese zip files trying to unzip them in Windows 8 (64-bit pro).

    • I tried other applications (7-zip, winrar, etc.)
    • I tried to make all the default program of programs at the above address for zip files
    • I tried to pass the locale (in Japanese of course) or use a version of applocale for windows 8.

The same zipfiles can be extracted without any problem on my old XP system (using 7 - zip and applocale), then the files are possible extract properly.
Observe also that it is not all the records that are affected, it is not necessarily all files in one archive. Goes the same for text in .txt files in the zip archive (some work, some don't).
I have no problem with folders or files with other Japanese names on the computer and zip archives, I do with works of Japanese text.
It is very irritating that this feature does not work with my new computer and I still use my old computer to unzip these files, then move them around to get them right.

I had this same problem.  The issue is that some software (especially Japanese) international still don't format their strings in Unicode internally.

So, when the file is saved, the file name is sent to the operating system by using JIS or Shift-JIS (in the case of the Japan).

So that Windows 8 correctly recognized character sets not latins non - UTF, you have to tell which character set to use.

    Here's how Windows 8:

Press START, type 'Control Panel' and then on enter.

Select "Clock, language and region" and then "change location".

This will open a dialog box, select the "administrative".

Click on the button that says 'Change the system locale', then select the language to use when a program cannot (or not use Unicode).

You need to restart your PC, but after that, you should be able to see Japanese names without problem.

    Hope that helps.
