  Try the following...

  First run, delete print jobs to eliminate any print job stuck in the queue.

  Unplug the printer.

• HP LaserJet 4000: Windows 10 - printer driver for HP 4000

  Support - basically my printer is now useless unless I can find a printer driver that works in Windows 10.

  UPDATE... after 48 hours of runing Windows 10 updates, I fear would need to buy a new printer... Oddly enough, the next morning I'm heading for the computer and... voila... as if by magic... There is my HP LaserJet 4000 printer.  And it works just great... my old beast of 1998 is right there and feel for me.  Thank you!!!

  You can try to install a Windows 7 printer driver and use your printer's printing features.

  Click Start, devices and printers, add printer > add a local printer > USB001 > choose the make and model > Windows Update > select HP Laserjet 5

  Uninstalling the driver is a little different from the uninstallation of software.

  Please follow these steps to remove the driver:

  1. Unlug the printer and restart the computer
