CPU is thrasing like crazy, up to 100% CPU usage almost instantly.

I use IE 8,00. Windows XP SP3. When I browse the Internet, the CPU goes up like nuts and in many cases to 100% use almost instantly, and a result locks all the programs that have been opened. I use the Task Manager to see the use of resources. My anti virus Norton 360 does not like what I see and this phenomenon occurs mainly when I open websites and do scroll a lot of resources. Nor have any other ongoing enforcement programs that require intense CPU utilization but normal running programs. I further note that the same things that happens when I use MS Excel 2003, locks when I try to copy and paste the same small amounts of information, especailly website screen scraping. Why is everything so fort on the CPU and why my CPU use shot up to 100% of so much of the time. I can hear it like a groan or its collapse when these things occur. Any ideas?

I have 2 GB on a Dell Dimension 3100, 80 GB HD mem.

  • Satellite P100 - 387 CPU fan works like crazy

    Hi all
I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite P100-387. I bought it with 2 friends. The same model.

The problem exists only in 2 of the 3 laptops. It looks like this. When I start the machine everything is ok. While windows starts cpu cooler (or video card cooler if it exists) starts to work. If the fan starts to work the low speed at the highest. And did it for 5 - 10 times. Then a few minutes break and again. It's really noisy. It seems that when you insert a CD or a DVD.

It goes like this also when windows is started. No high consumption of CPU, the fan works like crazy. Start at full speed for 2-3 seconds, then for 1 second and still the same.

Everyone has the same 'characteristic '?
What is this Toshiba Power Saver software works with p100-387?

    Hello

I P100-109 close to me and I noticed the same thing. There is no difference between preinstalled WXP or Vista and because of this, I assume that this is a normal behavior. I know it's sometimes troubling, but unfortunately you have to live with it.

Firefox is take a lot of CPU and apparently download something like crazy. I kill the process, restart and it happens again.

I blame my ISP initially, but when I switched to Chrome problems have completely disappeared.

Create a new profile as a test to see if your profile is the source of the problems.

See "basic troubleshooting: a new profile:

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "tools > Modules > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If this new profile works then you can transfer files from the old profile to the new profile, but make sure not to copy corrupted files.

    See:

Do a check with some malware malware, analysis of programs on the Windows computer.

You need to scan with all programs, because each program detects a different malicious program.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before scanning.

Alternatively, you can write a check for an infection rootkit TDSSKiller.

    Hey Malki,

He run a background process and they need the CPU usage that of normal. Antivirus is running in the background like other tools as well. As far as I know after the installation of recovery the defragmentation tool runs also in the background.

Interesting to know is what problem you have. I mean usually the CPU usage is not important if you can do everything and computer works correctly.

  • Portege R100 - CPU usage 100%

    Hello!

    Everyone knows about this problem?
My Portege R100 after installing the new copy of Windows XP and directly after the installation of the display driver, Trident (reboot) bizarre behavior.

Welcome screen goes white on the lower part (when the first yellow line is). Then I have some software problems.

When to start records search engine, when I update the list of wireless networks and I explore the files by clicking on 'My computer', (this does not happen when I right click on START and 'Explore') displays CPU usage 100% and everything is so slow that I can barely move a cursor.

Everything goes back to normal once I closed above applications.
I can install all drivers and all right, but after Trident display it is bad.

This is the driver I use since I bought the laptop, I do not know that is fine.
I installed it several times before and I have a few copies of it, which I've already tried so it must be good.

The cross thing only my mind is a hardware failure.
Someone of you knows than before?

    Thank you...

It has nothing to do with your computer - this is the trident driver problem - there is a work - around
    Try changing your display configuration-

    (1) right click on your mouse to the desktop to bring up the display property, and then click Advanced - here, you will see a tab say somethng like 'graphic acceleration.
    (2) reduce the rate of acceleration - move the tab to the left - make sure it is not full
    (3) this trident driver can cause the BONE to redraw the screen whenever you move your mouse with some applications

If my post is not detail for you
Try google with the keyword "how to turn off the graphics acceleration in windows xp" - you will get some good instructions

    That will solve your problem!

Good luck and enjoy your nice laptop!

  • Satellite A210-MS9 overheats like crazy with the fans always on

    Dear forum members (and guests)

I am a happy owner of the Satellite A210-MS9 laptop, and I'm having a major problem. This notebook is so hot, for nothing. as it will close for more than a day and the second I turn it on. the fan mounts like crazy and it disables never (EVER), noise is killing me, makes me emotional stress. and not only that, I thought the problem of vista, so I installed xp, same problem. I even turned off all the pleasure of the eyes in XP (imagine that) However, the fan never stops and it is too strong. so I went to google (for all best friend) I have found that the average temperature. for a system like mine is 29.6 (top) and 30.9 c (bottom)

So I downloaded CpuCOOL to check my temperature, guess what was my average temp, it's 50 ° c. 50, it is 67% more than it should be.
I don't know if I'm the only poor with his laptop tries to kill him with emotion, but I need help, desperately. now I see why they call this thing a laptop more, because you can never he put on his knees (if you want to have children) and I want to have kids.

    good luck and good night

    Hi Pauleece,

Looks like there is dust in the heat sink causing the CPU overheating. This happens to all laptops used in dusty environments.

A quick fix would be to blow into the air vents when the laptop is turned off. This will reverse the flow of dust and dislodge. You can also use compressed air to blow off the dust.

But if its in bad shape, you will need to disassemble the laptop and dust correctly. An ASP can do for you for a small fee.

  • Why my svchost.exe process constantly runs at 100% CPU usage?

Recently, my computer was extremely slow.  I thought that was the cause of a worm or virus but after I used Norton to take care of that my system is still slow right too. When I checked my system process, its display svchost.exe using a massive amount of memory. Therefore, my CPU usage is constantly at 100%.  Is it still the result of a bug? Or do I have to look elsewhere as the source of the problem? Thank you

It is possible that a recent update of Norton was faulty or caused one conflict with another program on the PC.

Activity excessive svchost.exe is often linked to one of the following:

1 resource hog like Norton or McAfee (sad but true)

2 be linked in Microsoft Update instead of Windows Update

    3. after having been updated for Windows Search 4.0 and its endless reindexing

    4. the presence of malware

Unless you have uninstalled Norton AND used their removal tool, I doubt you really deleted ALL occurrences of Norton!

FWIW, I helped a neighbor recently with his performance problem. The culprit in his case was Windws Search 4.0. And since there is no entry in the Control Panel Add / Remove programs to KB940157, I needed to follow the instructions offered by Nepatsfan here:

  • Oh, the irony? High DPC latency with idle CPU - gives more stable, more low-latency DPC CPU usage 100%

    Just like in the title,

I tried everything, disabling components, elimination of most of my RAM, update BIOS and loading failsafe and optimized defaults, etc. - and one thing I noticed is that Prime95 running x 64 on all hearts eliminates the peaks high in 1.2.0 DPC latency checker. Audio stuttering, what original research for corrections me, brought me to DPC latency checker.

It's really strange that the 100% CPU usage would cause the DPC latency stabilize (mine hovers around 350-450 microseconds in the full use of the CPU, but in use slowed parameters or moderate apparently something causes a DPC peak at ~ 4100us max).

Let me know if you figured it out!

    Hi Frankie,

We understand that you too met the same scenario as this 6 year old thread. Some resolutions are always topical, while others are no longer applicable due to constant updates and corrections in the course of the last years.

However, to resolve your concern, you can view article utilization of the processor for Windows 7 .

Let us know how it goes.

  • Windows 7 100% on Dv6 H - P CPU usage

Everyone knows maxed out the CPU usage by "research protocol host" and/or "permon", "Indexing" on H - P laptop, I suggest 'Power Management' to return to 'HP' recommended. It seems to cause some 'loop' or conflict in the HP software. It of a simple solution, drove me crazy for weeks. But I copy from the use of the processor 100% by another (stupid) attempt to manually manage the power settings. Hope this helps some of you.

Change the "High performance" power plan please. You still have the high utilization of the processor? "A programmer is just a tool that converts the caffeine in code" Deputy CLIP - http://www.winvistaside.de/

  • The CPU usage goes to 100% frequently for all the computers on the network.

Hi, I'm an engineer, for the past two weeks, my users are complaining about slow and found the CPU usage goes to 100% frequently, as we have laptop Dell Latitude with i7, 4 GB memory, Win7 64 bit OS. but this problem is din't solve even after fresh OS installation.

Check your remote destop setting. When something like that happens, its been my experience that someone or something keep 'rattling' computers trying to connect to them i.e. virus/trojan or something that someone installed which is now trying to hit everything on the network.

I checked my PC's performance in the Task Manager and the CPU usage is 100%. The strangest part is that even if I close iTunes, it still consumes my CPU at 100%. I tried to reinstall several times. Hi salonpas,.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with iTunes on your PC. Let's see if we can get smooth it.

Now, I know that you have already uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled, but you did in the order indicated in the article below. If this is not done in this order, usually issues will remain when you use iTunes. The order in which it should be done is this.

    1. iTunes
    2. Apple Software Update
    3. Apple Mobile Device Support
    4. Hello
    5. Apple Application Support 32-bit
    6. Apple Application Support 64-bit

Once you have done this, try installing again.
