  • When I double-click a folder or a drive, I get a "this file has no program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options panel' message.

I studied a lot of information to solve this problem, but whenever I click on my drives in my computer or folder, it comes up with this error message. No matter what I do, the error remains. The strange thing is,I can click right and always open folders normally with the "Open" option, it's just that Ican't double-click on a folder and access it using Windows Explorer. I think it might be a virus or something, but I'm not a computer expert. Anyone know how I can fix without wiping my computer?

    I tried the things:

    (1) I have SystemSuite Pro 10 (2009), so I used that to try to scan deep and does all the options I could. I found 4 Trojan files in my files of java for a reason, but I deleted them.

    (2) some sites suggest a problem with the registry, so I tried the fixes for those who did not.

    (3) I had a system checkpoint to restore old and just tried to restore my computer to that, but the problem persisted.

    (4) I used guest trying to access Windows Explorer and some of my other files, but the error message comes up again. It seems impossible to access Windows Explorer.

Please help me. Although it is a small problem, I really like my new computer to stay in the best shape possible and not have to do a right-click on each folder just to open it.

  • "THIS FILE DOES NOT HAVE A PROGRAM PARTNER FOR__PERFORMING IT THIS ACTION." _ TO CREATE AN ASSOCIATION IN THE FOLDER OPTIONS PANEL.

After update of windows of one of them: kb2502285, kb2467023 or kb2454826 causes the error message shwon in the title. Use system restore to remove this error... Someone else? or MS has a solution? Win7 Ultimate system.

    Brad

Problem solved before going the route "OneCare". Through the judicious use of recovery by timestamp and the creation of restore before loading points each of the last batch of updates one at a time and most importantly, cold computer start, not reboot. It turns out that I suspected that one of these updates has indeed caused the problem. Update KB2454826 causes the problem on this Machine. Have tested this 3 times now all with the same result, installed = error, uninstalled = no error msg and the system works normally... Not the first time MS has published an update that has created problems of machine. We had an upgrade for a beta version of a years of OS of windows ago that actually slowed to computers to an absolute crawl, kidnapping brought them up to their normal speeds and MS fixed and re-released update, maybe that will be the case here.

  • Shortcut to the file in spreadsheet gives the error "this file has no program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options Control Panel. "

I have a user running XP Pro and Office 2003.  Whenever they double click a shortcut to a file of Excel spreadsheet, the above message appears.  Is not shortcut to Excel himself, this shortcut works very well.  He finds a shortcut on the desktop to a spreadsheet saved on the hard drive.  Outreach programs and failure to file are correct.  If you click on the actual spreadsheet of its location of origin rather than the shortcut, the file opens correctly.  I repaired Office and when that did not work, deleted and reinstalled, still the same problem.  This is not isolated to Excel or the other Word documents to the same thing, so I suspect that this is a problem in the registry.

I go back down to a restriction of the GPO security policy

  • An association in the folder options

When I want to open my C drive to watch movies I save, I get this message "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action, create an associationn in folder options panel ' can you tell me how to proceed?

    Hi K K D,.

    ·         Which application do you use to watch the movie?

    ·         What is the file format?

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    Follow these steps:

    (a) click Start, Control Panel, Options of folders, File Types.

    (b) scroll down to the file extension you want to associate and high brightness.

    (c) now, click on "Change". In the open with dialog box, select the program you want to associate with this extension.

    (d) If you don't see the program you want, click 'Browse' and navigate to the '.exe' file programs, select it and then click on 'OK'.
