Create disks for ASM
Hello friends,I want to create diskettes for installation of the DSO.
I question my drive using diskpart utility on my server in the window.
DISKPART > list disk
Disc # status size free Dyn Gpt
-------- ---------- ------- ------- --- ---
* Disk 0 online 68 GB 0 B
It shows 0 free b on the drive.
DISKPART > list partition
Partition # type Offset size
------------- ---------------- ------- -------
Partition 1 primary 27 GB 32 k
Partition 2 primary 41 GB 27 GB
In Partition 1 15 GB of free space and partition 2 30 GB of free space available.
DISKPART > list volume
Volume # Ltr Label Fs Type size status Info
---------- --- ----------- ----- ---------- ------- --------- --------
0 E DVD-ROM 0 B sound volume
Volume 1 C NTFS Partition healthy system of 27 GB
Volume 2 D NTFS Partition GB 41 healthy
I want to create a new partition on the drive. so, how can I do. ??
Thanks in advance.

the SHRINK operation does not support older versions of diskpart (for example, in Windows XP, Windows Server 2003)
You can try a few other tools 3rd part for this

Configuration of free filesystem disks for ASM? You can use free space for ASM
Is there a way to devote space for ASM to create a database under the DSO?
I was hoping I wouldn't have to reinstall the operating system Linux Enterprise 5 (Red Hat). So I uninstalled my environment RAC 2 nodes, installed required ASM RPM for Red Hat linux Enterprise 5 and then reinstall 11 g Clusterware and set "configure Automatic Storage Management (ASM).
I missed something? Thank youHello
I recommend you to visit http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/wartak-rac-vm.html or http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/OracleDB11gR1RACInstallationOnLinuxUsingNFS.php
They are good examples to configure RAC
In your example: you will only use ASM for DATDISK and OFRDISK.

Prepare disks for ASM (data files and FRA)
I intend to place data files on a disc 1 (sd1) and disk2 (PSD) when the backup of files (FRA) on disk3 (SDC). Here's how I'd do:
For data files
Disk1 is divided into a single primary partition (with native Linux what ID 83 not formatted system)
Disk2 is also divided into a single primary partition (with native Linux ID 83 system not formatted)
oracleasm createdisk vol1/dev/sda1
oracleasm createdisk vol2/dev/sdb1
CREATE DISKGROUP DATA EXTERNAL vol1, vol2 REDUNDANCY;
For backup FRA
Disk3 is partitioned into four primary partitions: / Boot (ext3), / (ext3), swap (swap) and /u01 (ext3)
The FRA will be put under the/U01 and then attend the ASM:
oracleasm vol3/dev/sdc4 createdisk
CREATE DISKGROUP DATA EXTERNAL vol3 REDUNDANCY;
Now, the problem. (1) the/U01 has already be formatted in ext3; (2) Oracle (DBMS) software will also be place under/U01
It will be a problem?
Otherwise, I can put FRA on the same drive as the data files, i.e. on disk1 and disk2. In this case, I need to partition the disk 1 in two primary parititions sda1 and sda2 (native Linux system ID 83 not formatted), one for data files and another for FRA (do the same for disk2). The downside is that the data file and the file recovery will be on the same hard drive.
Please offer some suggestions.
Thank you
Scott
PS: in the environment of production, all the disc 1, 2 and 3 will be on hardware RAID 1.RAID 1 will protect you only a device failure. It won't protect you partition, the file damage system or user errors; It will be in the image of the errors and problems like any other data.
So what happens if you delete by mistake / U01 or some other accident happens and you loose that partition? With your current setup, you will lose everything and will not be able to restore or recover the database. Put tablespaces FRA and DB on the same physical device is certainly a very bad idea, whether or not it is a RAID.
ASM is not a software RAID 1 mirror. It ensures redundancy of data based on file extensions and knows about files of Oracle database, which is a very good thing. You probably do not want to specify 'external redundancy.
In a production system, you'll certainly want to mux the critical data and to store the DB controlfiles, redo logs and finally archivelogs on media separate physically in order to avoid the single point of failures wherever possible. You can use partitions and volumes in ASM, but they should be separate physical drives, otherwise you will bypass the ASM data redundancy. You must also have a solid strategy for RMAN backup. The FRA is supposed to store backupsets RMAN, copies of the image, the important archivelogs and multiplexes of the copies of the database files and should therefore always on a separate physical disk.
Unless you simply play, I strongly suggest that review you your current configuration.

discs not showup for ASM while insalling 11 GR 2 on solaris 10 using gui
Hi all
Try GR 11, 2 fresh rac installtion on two-node sun sparc physical boxes update of solaris 10 9 have LUN iscsi (created from sun VM storage array) everything is smooth until
We come to the option "create the ASM disk group" when he is not able to uncover disks for ASM default group. tried to use the trails of discovery of mutation ' / dev/rdsk / *', but of no use. OS on both nodes shows the disks are available using the format and and has created a system of files on them to rule out the possibility that something wrong with the LUN.

Cannot create disks C and D for the programs and data on HP Pavilion dv6-6c53cl with 1 TB HD
Just bought new HP Pavilion dv6-6c53cl Entertainment Notebook - 1 TB HD (it's good).
Bad news is that there are FOUR partitions (C, SYSTEM, RECOVERY, TOOLS HP) with the C-drive with 904 GB. If I understand correctly, you cannot shrink C and create a 5th partition for data. It seems that you cannot have more than four partitions...
(quote from sevenforums.com: ' you already have 4 primary partitions - you can't have more. ") If you try to make another c: partition using disk management, you will turn your (entire) disk into a dynamic disk. You don't want to do that! »
HP experts: Is it true? I can't shrink C and create a disk for data D? Can I combine one or more of your three auxiliary drives (SYSTEM, RECOVERY, TOOLS HP) and a disk for data D?
I've always heard that it was not a good idea to combine all, Windows programs, system etc all in the same giant partition with lots of photos, songs, financial data, Word files, etc etc.
Please notify.
I have a 1 TB hard drive and use the main C for all files. I use images software to make my own custom recovery solution, having 1 large partition makes it simpler. Custom recovery options
However, your question is how to have another partition. Daniel made a Guide on everything this HERE

A question about the use of disk space free on a RAID 10 for ASM?
Is it possible to install/configure 11gDB under the CARS using left over 300 GB of disk space.
I have all my drives configured in RAID 10 and I have 11g THAT RAC installed. I uninstalled RAC and database and then added the required RPM (ASM library and drivers).
Successfully installed the RAC and then proceeds to installation and configuration of 11gDB for ASM using the available disk space.
Is this possible? I get the error message: 11g DB intalled on RAC1 ASM cannot be used until the Oracle CSS service is started.
Thank youYou get this because CSS is not started, and ASM, it needs.
As root, go in $ORACLE_HOME/bin and run:

How many groups of disks for + DATA?
Hi all
Made Oracle recommends that a group of disks asm wholesale/shared for all databases?
In our case we're going to 11.2 and 10 g rac against 11.2 ask...
Am I right to say that I need to set the compatibility of the asm to 10 in order to be able to use the same disk?
It is a good idea? Or should I create another group of disks for the db 10g?
I guess that there are features that are not available when compatibility is reduced to 10g...Yes, it is possible but not recommended because the ASM would distribute the e/s in such a way to disc 1 would get 4 times requests for disk 2, which is probably not what you want in terms of performance.

or tell me how to get a copy?Thank you
Hello
on the official means, it is not possible to get a recovery disk in another language. Only, you can try to find someone who has a version in English of the M300.
You can also create the system by yourself with a Microsoft Windows CD English. Programs and the necessary drivers can be downloaded from the Toshiba site.
Good bye

User - Auto-Off function after comments "Check disk" for Win 7 & Win 8 is over
Hello
Hard disk for error checking and fixing it is a routine system for Office PC network maintenance, if the user is to have performance at all times.
The last PC has a hard drive of 500 GB to 1 TB size and many files for sanning. If will take about 10-20 minutes to perform the task. Generally it is not recommended to do so due to the timing tight work at office hours. Most of the office user prefer to do after working hours leaving their PC on for scanning. To Win 7 & Win 8 do not have an auto-off function after completion of the task of "Check Disk". The PC must be on during the night after scanning.
For energy saving, I would suggest a new feature that allows the user to choose to shut down their PC when the task is completed.
Thank you
Low
Hey Joe,
Thanks for the code of your order.
Can I know how to run this command? I still have to go in my computer > C drive > right click > properties > tool > Check Disk to perform this task?
I use the desktop PC network in which I am not an administrator, what I'm looking for the assistance of the administrator to create this file in my PC?
If I want to check the disk with this command, do window 7 / 8 allow me to do?
Thank you
Low
Hello
Thanks for the reply. The commands shown above are content to a Windows batch file. You simply create the Windows batch file using Notepad. The steps posted above shows how to create a file Windows specific command and its content. It then saves at a given location. You can then open the Windows created batch file to process orders (content).
No, it's all just a new file, we create with the .bat extension so that Windows will understand that the file we will create a Windows batch file. Thus, we will be able to run these commands at the command prompt. In DOS, OS/2and also Microsoft Windows, the batch file is the name given to a type of script file, a text file containing a series of commands to be executed by the Shell.Unfortunately, chkdsk requires administrator privileges to run correctly. You need to run the command of Windows as Administrator file to run all the commands, but you don't need administrator privileges to create the file. Even check the disc from the properties of the disc requires administrator privileges. You must be the administrator of your operating system, but not the administrator of your network.Windows will not prompt you to rerun the command of Windows as Administrator file. Instead, it will show you an error message indicating that you are not an administrator, and the command will not run if the Windows command file, you try to run contains commands that require administrator privileges, and you tried to run the command of Windows under a limited user account file. To avoid this problem, start the batch file to Windows as an administrator to ensure that all commands in the Windows batch file will run correctly. The commands shown above will do the following- Turn off echo command
- Scan the drive DriveLetter errors found during the analysis of fixation
- Shut down the computer after 0 seconds
Note: to run a particular file as administrator, right click on the file and select run as administratorThank you
I hope this helps :) -

Is it possible to make a password reset disk for windows 7 by using windows 8?
Original title: password reset disk
Is it possible to make a password reset disk for windows 7 by using windows 8. The reason why I ask this is because our Toshiba satellite laptop was stolen when our House was robbed. Fortunately the police recovered the laptop, but the password has been changed and we cannot use it. In the meantime, we have replaced the old laptop with a new one that has windows 8. I made a password reset disk using this, but it won't work on the old laptop.
any advice would be great
Best regards, Ian
Hi Ian,
You can create a password reset disk only when you are able to log on or access Windows 7 computer and after you have created a password for the same.
Windows 8 password reset disk can be used only in Windows 8 computer where you created the password and not for Windows 7.
You must create a Windows password reset disk before you forgot your password. You must also create a new password reset disk when you change your password in Windows.
If you the administrator password are changed and is not a password reset disk or another administrator account, you will not be able to change or reset the password.
For more information, see the articles:

You can also read the articles and check if it helps.
