  Well, I have some of the xVid .avi files and wonder what I should do to get the first Elements 9 for Mac that allows to work with them. I can't seem to find the right codec and I don't know if that would solve my problem even. Yes, the codec would read QuickTime files, but El first would be able to work with them?

  I also thought I could use the Super video converter (free app) on my PC to convert these files to something other than Premiere Elements will love. I guess that .mov would be preferable. I don't really know if this might degrade the video, but I suspect it would be.

  What do you think guys what is the best approach?

  A DVD uses MPEG2 format, transcoded VOB to DVD - take a look at a DVD 'Hollywood' sometimes to see the structure of directories and files

  XviD/divx are variants of the MPEG4 codec... and cannot be directly used to create a DVD... they must be transcoded

  Because thay are not intended to be edited (they were designed for delivery, often via streaming video on the ' net) you will need to convert for use in PrEl

  I would recommend capturing your VHS, DVD and video with the ADS Pyro 8mm and I would recommend it download files AVCHD with Premiere Elements and display an AVI from there so that you can combine all projects. (Make sure the parameters of project selected for AVCHD precisely corresponding to your camcorder - and give the file a few minutes to comply before trying to modify.)   Let me explain what I am suggesting to me.

  1. divide the media together for example 2 Hrs in 10 (number of chapters) and create a separate time for each line. (You can do this in even crop assets in the timeline). The size will be same except if you have more then 2 Hrs of media altogether on all the lines in time.

  2. connect the time lines end actions for the continuous play.

  3. create the separate playlist for Indivisual chapter (timeline) and set the end action of chapter. No substitutions are necessary.

  Chapter markers icon must not be greyed out, even if you use a mp4 which is not transcoded by again.
