Crooks pretending to Support technical

Today, I received a call from phone number 800-519-0402-one man who spoke with an Indian accent and identified himself as "Derek Smith." It has provided a good Service Tag No. and an 'Express 'Code' a reminder, because I wasn't with my computer at the same time.  He informed that my computer was sending reports to Dell informing him that it was getting dangerous downloads and that I had to go through stages with him to ensure that downloads are stopped before "there is too much damage."

I filled the form of Dell to report the incident.  Thank you.

Hi whritz3,

Thanks for posting and thanks for that bring to our attention.  I appreciate that you filled out the form and reported it to our fraud department so that we can these crooks closed.

Kind regards
Robert

    1. to follow step 1, log in as a user with "computer administrator" privileges and go to control panel > Add / Remove programs.  Uninstall all instances of the Java Runtime Environment (there may be variations on this name).

2 step 2 links to a Microsoft FixIt utility. I'm not familiar with it, and it may or may not help (although clearly the Java think that).  I suggest Revo Uninstaller (free) or the older Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.  On this last point, the cleanup utility Windows Uninstaller removed Microsoft download servers because sometimes it seems more removed he was supposed to (I believe this was linked to Office uninstall).  You can always get the utility Windows Installer Cleanup here--> http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html before using any of these cleaning products, you must create a restore point from the system first (or back up the registry with C:\WINDOWS\ERUNT).  See http://windowsxp.mvps.org/registry.htm

  • Pack care not HP Support Assistant recohnised

I bought a Care package a few months ago, and yet the HP Support Assistant always keeps tagging me to buy a package of care because the warranty will expire next year.

"Your HP warranty for your 500-570na is scheduled to complete the 14/03/2016."

When I go to the HP Support and it asks me to check my sttus of support, he then acknowledges the Care Pack.

How do I rectify this? (I see that many other people have had problems using the Care Pack and I don't want to happen to me).

(Sorry - there no category for support in your list of Council).

    Hello

Contact HP Support to obtain the number of Care Pack fixed.

Of course IAM system used by Technical Support should recognize the care pack.

If this isn't the case, provide support technical details of the agent on the package of care to validate and update your records.

  • Refund of fees charged on a support call

    This seems to be a way ridiculous to get the answer to this question, but here goes;

I work for a University that is free of tax. I hired paid Microsoft support technical impact to help me. Charge taxes on the incident Web site. Now I'm wandering through the Organization of Microsoft massive trying to learn how to get this tax charge refunded.

    Does anyone here know?

In general, you will need to contact support even you charged (which was probably run by a subcontractor but anyway that they can help).  This site is just a public forum of other users like you).

  • Extreme SSD 120GB - No. TRIM support for Linux later? $150 wasted?

I am a customer of Sandisk's long-term and generally been happy with their products.

My favorite and the only OS is Linux, like the millions of PC users, laptop, Tablet and smartphone world. I'm about to take delivery of a brand new Sandisk Extreme SSD 120 GB. This is my 2nd SSD (the other being of Kingston). I just found this review online (newegg.com) about current support for Sandisk Extreme SSD TRIM for Linux:

"Cannot support a topping on LINUX. I also use EXT4 throw tag in/etc/fstab and it does not work. I sent Sandisk. They said: "I understand that you were not able to activate the TRIM on your SSD 120 GB extreme linux system command. We are sorry for the inconvenience this problem may have caused. »

Then I remember seeing this in own of Sandisk SSD info online:

"Any operating system can be installed on an SSD. There is NO compatibility problem with regard to the operating system. Windows, Mac, Linux, Unix any version or BACK can be installed on an SSD.
Certain features such as the PLATE only are supported in mode native on the latest operating systems such as Windows 7 and Mac OS 10.6 and higher. »

I'm worried. First of all, I have always use the latest version of Linux, continually updated to day and make all the necessary preparations for the maximum performance of SSD (including changes to operating and fstab AHCI). Then my other SSD worked flawless since (installed 6 months ago) news including the TRIM under Linux.

Then I read elsewhere that Sandisk provides no SSD firmware still updates (?). Is this correct?

If so, then Houston, we have a (major) problem. Product not suitable to use? Misrepresentation of product? Inadequate technical support? Incomplete engineering front of dumping on the market?

I might be worrying unduly. Heck, I really hope someone can help me, clarity and TRIM unlimited direct. Can I use my new Sandisk Extreme SSD as my other player, without product development stressful of Sandisk. (Before I drop the fanboys Win7 and Mac, Linux is also valid in the real world like any OS corporate-drone. Heck one day you too could see the light...)

Good news all around. Extreme SSD arrived and installed without a hitch. Also received a number of useful answers E-mail of Support technical Sandisk (thanks, notably, spear, who approached the plate). In short, if you have a recent Linux kernel installed, opt for the filesystem ext4 on both / and / Home. But first of all to be absolutely sure that you have selected the AHCI option in the section of the BIOS of your motherboard SATA mode. (Flashing the latest mainboard BIOS should also help.) So to allow TOPPING Linux offers edit you your file/etc/fstab to include the "noatime" instructions and "throw" in the lines making reference to / and / Home. Save and you should be good to go. So to answer my own original doubts - TRIM is supported for latest Linux OS provided that you follow the installation process. I lose $150? Probably not, but only time and toggle NAND will tell!

  • BlackBerry Smartphones guaranteed support for an unstable "BOLD"

So, sorry that my first message is a request, however, I have problems with my relativley new Blackberry bold 9650 on Verizon Wireless network.  Let's first the battery life is terrible, I'm 1.5 days max compare this to my Curve 8330 I got 3.5 days of solid battery life.  Don't forget not the time above battery are using a relatively light perhaps 15 to 20 e-mails a day during the very week Fatima do they have pictures or attachments, I never use the media apart from the Fatima functions very camera, the backlight is at its lowest setting, it is in a case and currently because I'm 400 miles to my car bluetooth is disabled.  The other major problem is that this thing constantly loses the Internet network.  It will mainly hold the voice connection but often (once or twice a day), I have to do a battery on which pull I immediantly get 4-5 important emails.  I thought that it is a problem with my verizon coverage in Buffalo, I had similar problems of network (although one or two times a month) on my BB Curve 8330 after moving to Buffalo, now I'm in New York and if anything the problem got worse.  I can not even find a link to BB on-site warranty claim, yet once I don't need support technical I need a new bloody phone, I bought it on 09/10/10 and it has been worsening steadily every day.  Thanks again I hope I had a lemon and is not a widespread problem, all I can say is that I am not very impressed.

Yes, I did a wipe but was still that they are sending me a new one, on the path above the unit kept SOS mode and the web has lost several times.  I expect the battery to last a single day which sucks really (I'll have to order some more of China via amazon) girl at verizon had a nasty attitude saying I had too many apps running (because I downloaded some new stuff and establishing parameters) however one of the tookover Tech and said suck battery due to CDMA but his should not fall the web service , they are a night there me a new.

  • QTECH care? is this true or a scam?

Hi, I got my lap top a few months ago and rarely use it. Shortly after I got it I got a call from care tech Q saying that my lartop has beem compromised, and they charged me $299 for unlock and get my laptop working again. Then a few weeks later, they called again and said I had to pay an additional $ $350 if I wanted to keep my laptop works well. They told me that they were somehow connected to HP, but now I wonder if I am taken for a ride. Last week, I received another call from them to want me to spend more money, and when I'm asked them they just hung up and never called back.

I would appreciate an answer, because I feel like I've been royally duped.

    Thanks a lot olderlady

Hello and welcome to the HP support community!

HP never call you 'out of the blue' on a problem.  Unfortunately, I think that you have been defrauded...

There is a warning about scammers at the top of each page here on this Forum:

"Be alert for scammers who posed as representatives of HP and numbers of appeal only to people who have a label next to their screen name." If you think you have received a message of support HP fictitious, let us know by clicking "Inappropriate content report" blue button above the message. Thank you! »

  • Unacceptable telephone service

Me and my grandfather called HP because my I broke my computer laptop charging port. I plugged my laptop, but the adapter kept popping out. I didn't know if there was something inside the port when I looked inside, I gave my computer to my grandfather, because I didn't know what was wrong it shone a light on the port, we realized that the metal container inside fell. We then looked at telephone number of HP, then immediately we hung with an agent of Indian Affairs. We both noticed that wherever he was there a lot of terrible background noise when calling. We asked what we needed to do, he said, he will send a technician to look at my laptop at our House. Now, my grandfather asked how it would be and they said only 200 dollars. We are as "forget it" and hung up. Later, I found the real HP on the cat, a kindly person box pick up, 6 days door to door. I was so if the number we called the thought was a number of HP of fraud because I highly doubt that HP would say something so stupid. What all do you this?

    ~ Techy

    Hello TeckyBee,

There is one thing common that lies the layman seeking support on Google and other. There are a lot of imitators, Crooks and look similar sites that claim to be Support HP, registered or certified by.

This is a link to the official Support page.

Contact HP worldwide | HP® official site

Its good that you did not pay tax on some foreign come to your home. Most likely, nobody would have shown upward anyway, and you would have had your money. I also wouldn't be surprised that if you gave them any personal info, you start getting calls to support technical fake tech telling you that your computer is infected. Microsoft or HP DO NOT make calls to customers telling them that they have noticed problems with a computer of people, just to let you know.

This article will help you a bit on the topic.

How to recognize a rogue site?

There are also a lot of YouTube videos out there of people who have been called by scammers too. If you have the time, some of them to see what happens when a fake agent calls watch.

For example, (it's a long but informative video): ▶ scamming the scammers - how to handle false calls to technical support - YouTube

In the future, if you have any questions about your HP computer, feel free to ask here on the forum. It is not a direct portal to the HP support but is managed by HP and volunteer based. Its also a good starting point.

    Good luck.

  • E-mail and unexpected visit stating that my computer is vulnerable

I had an unexpected visit, pretending to be technical support from Microsoft, saying my P.C. Is out of warranty, so they are smarter to go on my computer, chat with windows live, send us a phony fax that asks me to ask a credit card info and someone claiming to be from Microsoft comes to my house and say I have a virus on my computer? What is a genuene?

Of course, it is NOT authentic.

  • Call Dell technician - scam?

    HI team,

I get calls from days saying they are from dell.

The first call I got, he said, he calls with dell as they get errors reported to the server dell with my machine. He asked to open the laptop and go to eventviewer. Then I asked him to send me an official email from your email from dell to proceed further to be sure. The appeal was abandoned.

Today, I got another call from another number with a person with the Indian accent. He said it comes from dell and call technical support team has been disconnected.

This looks like a scam to me call. How do these guys get this information of the mine. Or is it a real call to dell.

One thing I had recently reached out to dell with one of my technical problem with the laptop and it started a few days ago. It seems that this information flowed after my call with dell team.

Not sure but it looks like...

Please go back to the top of this forum and read the announcement, "scammers pretending to Dell technical support.

  • Is my mother getting ripped off, she was contacted by a representative of windows phone 8, who said she has many mistakes and they consulted mote fix him.

A rep is currently approximately for 2 hours now.  She called to tell me, and it seems too hokey to me.  A representative contact you?  I think she's getting ripped off?

Your question is not clear, but if you want to say, "Someone called my mom pretending to be technical support, logged on to his computer and has been associated with for two hours now" then the answer is Yes, she is in imminent danger of having his computer corrupted, damaged or stolen from him information.  Read here:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-GB/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx

You should have your mother back up all the files (photos, movies, music, etc.) that it cannot afford to lose and immediately clean up his computer and restores in factory new condition.  Check the manuals of your computer or the web support site for more details.

Finally, it must communicate with banks, investment firms, etc. and inform them of what has past.  They will advise what needs to be done to protect its banking assets or accounts online might be hacked by these people.
