CS3 CS4 CS5 backward compatible or just backward?

Have just spent more than a month to speak with Adobe "Customer Service" - a call center offshore which all appear to be reading from a script that says "Sir, I understand your problem" - really? "But all I can say is that buy you CS5" - I already had! -«Or visit our online community»

More than a month - I can include the thread here - including telephone calls a dozen where I was sometimes hung up and where I NEVER talked with a technician who has really understood my problem.

I have customer video projects that extends all the way back to CS2 first.

When I upgraded from CS3 to CS4 (on PC) I was told 'start all my video projects from scratch' - which was the Adobe 'Customer Service' useful response team! It seems that Aboriginal media formats handles how CS4 is entirely not compatible with CS3 or earlier.

Two months ago, I bought a suite CS5 Mac. Once again, my CS3 projects are not compatible, it seems. A month ago my PC is dead.

I started a dialogue with Adobe 'Customer Service' seeks help.

I own Production Suite or Master Suite in CS2, CS3, CS4 and CS5 - so I'm not a software pirate - and have a reasonable expectation that I should attract a certain level of support: more specifically, I would like to Exchange my PC CS3 to Mac CS3 software - seems to be the best way to run these older projects - BUT I would gladly take any advice you can provide!

After more than a month, speaking with a range of people "Customer Service" from well intentioned but not trained to rude people walk in a straight line, I said go buy the software somewhere else!

Adobe CS3 for Mac ships new from $ 800 to $ 1500 on eBay.

Boot Camp is an option since I own CS3 for PC, but then I need to buy Windows and a parallel software solution - also about $1200.

I want is no longer such an evangelist for IP - when it's the service that you get as a true customer of Adobe.

I love using Adobe products but am disgusted by the total lack of service.

Can anyone help?

I will make 2 comments.

First of all, this sounds like the nightmare of compatibility!  PC to Mac and CS3 CS4 are each of the colossal challenges.  If you can get this to work, it will be a marvel.

Secondly, I am a new user of CS5.  CS3 for a long time, briefly CS4 on my old PC, and then CS5 on my new i7 PC.  Quickly, I came across an oddity just because I was DLing CS3 and CS4 PR projects in CS5.  Does not work.  But I opened each such project in CS5, prompted me for new name, saved those and DL had the new CS5 versions in the project of CS5.  But they had very little things other than video and edited at least.  Then, Jeremiah, I think that your approach is the right one.  Each DL element used in the project of 'old' needs to be high to CS5 before waiting for it to work.

Matt, good luck!

  • CS3, CS4 and CS5 Crash when clicking on.

Hey, can't find anywhere better ask this question.

2.8gz 4 GB ram imac running intel latest snow leopard.

have all 3 installed indesign cs3.cs4.c5 tests.

However as soon as the start screen has authorized, we arrive at the new document window.

We can choose document settings, then the page is displayed in white as standard.

then you click ANYWHERE in indesign and Flash freeze and have to force quit.

all n software drivers are up to date and have erased the prefrences.

    any guy more ideas?

    see you soon

    x

    Well.

Sometimes it's obvious what's going on, but usually it is not. In this case it isn't. But.

I guess we can say that he is waiting for the system to grant him a lock to do something, but this isn't all that clear what who or why. Although it seems to be stuck inside the TIN_Disposefont in calls to SING. I don't know anything about TIN, other than a look of 5 seconds on his web page.

But it seems that the problem has to do with fonts and Japanese who. I think that Peter above suggests that a font may be a problem.

So, try to remove all of your Japanese fonts. And if that does not do it, try to delete all your rules policies. See if that fixes it. If so, then add their return in half until what refine you the one who kills. Don't forget, it's only log-base 2 number of fonts, so even if you have 1024 fonts on your system, it is only 10 demi-retrecissements.

  • Export to CS4 CS5?

    INDD CS5 7.0 on Mac 10.5.8

I have a brochure with jet-out pages (page so different sizes) I want to provide as CS4 work (and not PDF) to the printer, which did not update to CS5 because it is only available for Intel Macs (which they do not have either - Motorola only, I just found out).

There may be some last minute changes I want their repro dept do is there any way I can save in CS4 CS5 so that they can modify it, if necessary?

    Thank you.

If export you it to export file IDML, then they can open in CS4.

BUT all the different page sizes would be maintained, i.e., they will all be the same size and not of different sizes you have in CS5.

CS5 has that CS4 is lost in the translation by going backward in inDesign.

I would say that they buy a decent computer (PC or MAC) and get a trial or upgrade their CS5 software.

Otherwise, it seems that you will be an update files.

  • Reclassification of cs3 to cs5 commercial best student itinerary?

I would do in literally the cheapest way possible.  I know that nothing tends to be cheap with Adobe, but I was wondering what the best way would be to go to the Master Suite CS3 to CS5, and if change of licenses can student to commercial over upgrades (or what I have to buy the range Master many times?)  I do go through CS4 to CS5?  Is there any remotely cheap medium to do this?  Thank you.

    Hi Vito,

Yes, you can directly upgrade from student to commercial and get the upgrade prices - which is one of the benefits once you own student editions...

However, if you happen to be still in school so you can continue to get student price of a full copy of CS5.5 - so you would need to compare the price of upgrade compared to the cost of a new edition student above and if it was lower.

And you do not need to go through CS4 in both cases - just go directly from CS3 to CS5.5 Commercial in the first case, or buy the CS5.5 Student Edition pure and simple (if you are still eligible) in the second.

    I hope this helps!

  • Wo Color Balance layer features in CS4-CS5 >?

Maybe a guru with best connections to Adobe knows the answer to that. (or maybe I just forgot).

I just found out (and I don't think that it is pilot error) the characteristic behavior of the color Balance adjustment layer is different in CS5 and CS4/CS3.  (Much stronger in CS4/CS3).

In addition, there also is an associated behavior that is like a buried legacy mode that is not visible to the user.  Here's what I mean.

If I create an image in CS4 with a single layer of color balance Wo, I get an adjusted image.

If I open the PSD file in CS5, the same image is displayed.

If I use the same base image, yet to create the layer of color balance Adj to in CS5, the adjusted image is different than the two prerequisites.   If the color adjustment layer acts like it has a hidden legacy mode where the features are an if created in CS4/CS3 yet another characteristic type if created in CS5.

My mind could be drag (or my cold got the best of me) because I do not remember this as a documented change and I searched the internet for "what's new in CS5" etc.  I don't remember anything on other forums on this subject either.

I guess the good news is, the new feature of the color Balance adjustment layer is outperformed with a curve of transfer with the least amount of cutting for the lights and the shadows.  Very similar to the better behavior of the diaper change for setting brightness/contrast from CS2 to CS3.

Here are a few comparison images.

This is the layer stack used with simple Base Image B to gradient W with CB layer on top with highlights pegged in the red.  It's the exact same stack of layers for images shown:

    http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/yy26/thebestcpu/NAPP%20General/Screenshot2011-05-30at114749AM.png

Here is the first picture.  It was created in PS CS4 and displays CS4 versions with the spectacle of the above conditions:

    http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/yy26/thebestcpu/NAPP%20General/Screenshot2011-05-30at114804AM.png

It is the same picture from above that has been saved as PSD with profile and them imported into PS CS5 with the same profile.  There is no change:

    http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/yy26/thebestcpu/NAPP%20General/Screenshot2011-05-30at114858AM.png

This next image is still using the same basic gradient, and then creating the CB layer from PS CS5 with the same parameters, only the Red linked highlights:

    http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/yy26/thebestcpu/NAPP%20General/Screenshot2011-05-30at114922AM.png

Does anyone have an easy answer for this.  Can anyone reproduce this and confirm the change of CS4 CS5.  A test by someone else could confirm either I'm off base with pilot error or there is something to this.

And Yes, all the images were sRGB and kept in sRGB for creation/display.  All screenshot images were the images grow side by side on the same managed colour monitor.   All edit > color settings are identical.

Thanks in advance for any help

    John

AFAIK, the math for this adjustment has not changed a bit.

And automated our tests found no difference in the results.

You should probably double check all settings.

  • CS4 CS5 document: text is yellow walk

    Hello

When you open a CS4 CS5 document, text is now walk yellow. Strangely, almost always just the titles and not all the words or even letters.

Can someone tell me what this means and what parameters are responsible for this?

    Thank you!

It is quite 'normal', as it was in CS4, CS3 and perhaps earlier. It of just a viewing preference, so don't panic and just turn it off if it bothers you.

  • CS4 CS5 plugins updated

If I upgrade to Photoshop CS4, CS5, can I just copy all my plugins in the plugin CS4 to CS5 a folder? I assume here that my plugins are compatible with versions of Photoshop.

The short answer is Yes and no.

Some plugins need to be relocated, and those who may not know CS5 without an update of their manufacturer.  SOMETIMES, you can identify all the support files and copy them as well, but it becomes difficult.

Others, those who are autonomous and do not install the dll support, need registry entries, etc., can be copied.

A basic rule is that if you copied a file in the plug-ins folder to begin with, you can copy it to the new version of Photoshop.  From what I can see CS5 is very compatible with the old plug-ins (keeping in mind that the 32-bit plug-ins work only with 32-bit Photoshop CS5 and 64 - bit plug-ins work only with 64-bit Photoshop).

Never, but never point the parameter file additional to the old installation of Photoshop Plug-ins, because it has provided Adobe plug-ins that will come into conflict.

  • InDesign CS3 - Photoshop CS5 conflict?

I want to upgrade Photoshop CS4 CS5, but am concerned about a report on the luminous landscape Forum where a Member claims that its unusable InDesign CS3 install PS CS5 made.  According to him, "" Photoshop CS5 modifies some files of database type in common files > Adobe diectories, that totally prevent Indesign similarly start. ' "

    Of discussion forum at http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=43396

Has anyone seen other similar reports or had this experience?  Now I'm working on a project where I am forced to use InDesign CS3 (and not a newer version) so cannot take a chance that the new Photoshop will be screw things with ID3.

You don't mention your operating system. I just installed the trial on my test XP workstation and indeed had a breakdown of the AMT subsystem - you must reinstall closed warning and ID CS3.

I have downloaded and run the Flexnet http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=3750&fileID=3528 patch and all is well.

I don't know what all this patch, since apparently it's a reapir for Acrobat 8 running Vista, but if memeory serves it reliable to resolve this particular error on all versions of Windows with any version of Acrobat.

  • the Ae cs3 to cs5 upgrade

I get bought a second hand Ae cs3 to cs5 update.

Everything is perfectly fine with the product.

Except that when I run the upgrade, and when he asks me the serial number of my previous product, upgrader does not recognize my cs3 production premium series...

I guess that this valuation would love that I had bought only an Ae cs3 instead of the production premium suite.

I don't want CC, and I want just my Ae to go of cs3 to cs5.

Adobe, I'm disappointing. Please give me a quick solution.

    Best regards, f.

Contact by web chat support. As a general rule, however, you get what you expect - suites can only be upgraded to suites. You should ask before rather than making a noise about it now.

  • The upgrade from versions CS4 CS5

I recently purchased the CS5 upgrade and installed.  I thought it would just update my current CS4 phtoshop but it has installed a new program.  Is this correct?  How can I transfer my information located in Bridge CS4 and Photoshop CS4 CS5?  Remove the old version once I have done this?

    Thank you!

Yes, it is correct in every way. Newer versions will never affect more older and install separately. Image metadata doesn't have to be transferred, CS5 will recognize the embedded data and sidecar XMP like CS4 has, since its stored in image files, not directories of the program. If you need to export configuration data, use the relevant options in the variaous for example to export panels brushes or styles. and Yes Men do not hesitate to uninstall CS4. Just beware that it can burst your file associations. The right way would be to uninstall CS4 and CS5, and then reinstall only CS5.

  • Conversion in Design CS3 to CS5

We have recently improved InDesign CS3 to CS5. We have a bunch of models created in CS3, but wanted to convert CS5. Is there a way to do it or we just save as in CS5?

Opened in CS3, file > export... and choose Interchange Format (.inx) from the list.

  • Going from CS3 to CS5

I've just updated from CS3 to CS5 and feel

growing pains. I have several questions, but I'll make them one at a time.

first in CS3 I edited a jpg file, and then click Save as and change the name of the file in order to have the original file

and saved the edited one. CS5 - when I do and hit "save under" nothing happens. I do something

wrong or is this an "improvement" in CS5

You have a small screen?  Who does not respect the minimum of 1024 x 768 pixels in Photoshop maybe?

Unfortunately, it will not put a record on a too small screen dialog box.  Yes, that sounds pretty fake.

  • Problems to open the InDesign CS4 CS5 files

We have just upgraded to CS5 to enjoy the track changes feature and immediately ran into problems:

    • at the opening of the CS4 CS5 files, we noticed that formulas, created using styles charater, do not display correctly.  For example x = y / z, which would have the x and = signs fell, pointed out the y and the z on the following line, something like this (although much prettier that I can reproduce here):

    x = y

    z

However, CS5, all in the formula gyphs overlap each other

    • We tried to load character of our model of document styles.  However, who did most of the content to disappear!
    • We tried to convert our CS5 model, then by loading character of our model of document styles.  However, which also caused most of the content to disappear!

    Someone got clues?

If you open the CS4 files directly in CS5, try to export files CS4 IDML and open the IDML CS5 files. It's worth a try if you have not already found that it does not help.

  • Different fonts between CS3 and CS5 on Win7 system using the same fonts directory

I have several files created in Fireworks CS3 that work very well. Fonts are all installed in the directory system on my Win7 box.  This used to be a WinXP Pro box.

I can load a file in Fireworks CS3 without a single question and text everything seems perfect. As it should.  Close the CS3 open CS5 and load the same file and CS5 tells me I must update my fonts.  Why?  Same system, the same fonts in the same font directory. Only thing that's changed, it's that I open the file (s) in CS5.

The fonts look the same in CS5.  I'll have to redo all the Fireworks CS3 files so that it looks correct in CS5? If so, why?

Here is a sample image of the way it is supposed to look like. The Swift gets watered. PlazaDUtil is the police. I'd hate to have to redo all my files logo.
