  • 8 GB DIMM modules for early 2008 Mac Pro

I see that OWC is now selling the 8 GB DIMMs for early 2008 Mac Pro (8-core, 3.2 GHz). This leads to the potential total RAM up to 64 GB.

Anyone has any experience of the use of these, or potential problems?

    Thank you!

I would call OWC and ask them. I remember not only here posts on this topic.

However. I myself would buy a chance 2009-2012 in the place and level it. These Mac Pro are the most capable and reliable and 8 GB sticks are 1/3 of the cost of those of 2008.

  • The limits for OSX Mac Pro 3.1 update in early 2008

I wonder till I can upgrade the operating system of my Mac Pro 3.1

    I currently have El Capitan

I would spend the money, do some hardware upgrades (SSD, RAM)

and I wouldn't, being an early 2008 to discover the next year general hardware of the machine is too old

and does not receive any other updates or any new OS

I do not pretend to have updates of the system for another 10 years but I don't find me 'old' next year

Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing what will be obsolete next year or the year after, etc.

  • Early 2008 iMac RAM Upgrade

    Hello

I have my old iMac bought in early 2008. It works very well and did an amazing job. However as time progressed so also the OS X has progressed on my iMac too. Snow Leopard, I moved to El captain.

The maximum memory I have is 4 GB of RAM (2 GB * 2 LOCATIONS). But recently, I discovered that there are a lot of buffering going on and I'm sure it's due to lack of RAM. A lot of paging happens I think between the RAM and the HARD drive.

My question to the readers of this message is:

Can I go head and buy a Stick 4 GB RAM (DDR2 - 800 Mhz - 4 GB of RAM). What might be the implications of material. Although the chip itself is very expensive, I fear not buy if this will help my iMac to better respond to requests.

Comments appreciated by all those who have done this kind of upgrade.

    Thanks for reading my message.

    Best wishes

    DeSmet

Your iMac can actually use up to 6 GB of ram. Buy ram from a friendly seller Mac as OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/

    or critical http://www.crucial.com

That said even with 6 GB your old iMac can't run your expectations with El Capitan. An older operating system like Mountain Lion might better work in 4 or 6 GB of ram on your machine http://www.apple.com/shop/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion

  • What screen resolution will be an early 2008 iMac support HDMI Firewire?

The question, says it all really. I have an iMac in early 2008 with Firewire ports. I have a firewire connector HDMI I want to use to connect to a monitor to use as a secondary monitor to the iMac as a monitor for the PS3. I have a different HDMI to allow switch box outputs switch between the iMac & PS3.

I want to know is what is the maximum resolution that will support the iMac?

And, if I use a monitor with a higher resolution it will reduce or will it just not work?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're asking.

Ask yourself if the iMac in early 2008 can be used as a stand-alone monitor? No-> use your iMac as a display with the target - Apple Support Display Mode

Ask yourself if you can connect your iMac in early 2008 to an external monitor? Yes, but your iMac has an output mini-DVI video. If your monitor has an HDMI input, you will need to use one adapter mini DVI to HDMI.

  • Early 2008 IMAC HD

I just installed a new hybrid of 1 TB (7200 RPM and 8 GB SSD) in my Early 2008 20 "2.66 Ghz IMAC

I need to format the HD before you try to boot from El Capitan loaded on a USB?   When I hold that get an icon for the USB option, it loads then goes to a gray circle with line

This could mean the picture on the port USB does not work?

I also installed 2 module 2 GB of RAM, but I took out and replaced with the old RAM and always get the same result

    * Everything has been bought at OWC.com

Yes, a new hard drive must be formatted before that you can do something with it.

Regarding the USB - which is a Setup bootable on it? Doesn't seem to be if you are unable to start it. How do you have this OS out there?

Hi, is it safe if I transfer 2 ram sticks of a macbook (early 2008) for an Imac 8.1 (core 2 duo)? Or I have to get different ram for imac?

  • How do I reinstall the AHT on my early 2008 iMac

My 8, 1 imac, early 2008, now has installed, after Leopard and Snow Lepoard Yosemite. AHT will not load with the D option or the nline version, years that I don't have the diskettes original so I don't seem to be able to perform the test. Y at - it somewhere I can download and install AHT of?

I guess my 2nd Q's that matter? Are there ways better/easier to test the card mother etc?

    Thank you.

PS. I had to tap my Q 3 times to get to this point. 1 type Q and then connection; 2. type again; 3 Q appears in the summary box so change downwards and tap again below summary (see box).

You can not download the AHT Apple or the internet.

To run the AHT you disc #2 originally supplied with your iMac.

Your best bet is to contact Apple Support and order a replacement set CD.

  • What SSD for early 2009 imac?

    Hello

I have a question to choose the good ssd for my imac 7y/o (9.1) since early 2009.

I found a few good SSD as the samsung 840 BX100 or critical, but I've also read several times that a ssd sata3 will use sata1 when installed on a sata2.

And that is why it is better to install a sata2 ssd.

IS that still the case today? Given that these messages are coming from 2013.

Or is that I can put in an ssd sata3 and it will run on sata2?

    Kind regards

    Ivo

SATA III drives that use the Sandforce controller will come back to SATA I speed if installed on a computer that uses the Nvidia MCP79 SATA controller. Samsung does not Sandforce. My Macbook in early 2009 with a Samsung 840 (pre Evo, not Pro) negotiates the SSD SATA II speed, connected to the MCP79.  OWC also still sells SATA II disks, I have one in my late 2009 iMac. I chose this drive, even if it was more expensive because OWC insisted that my model should have the Nvidia controller but in reality it has controller Intel 5 series. I didn't take my iMac except more than once.

    Confused? Yes I know...

  • iMac early 2008 fails to boot completely

    Hi all -

I have an early 2008 iMac 3.06 GHz 24 "model that starts more completely. The system gets to the Apple screen and the progress bar comes in at halfway and there it is. I had replaced the original HARD with a SDD drive and had not had any problems so far. The system has 6 GB of RAM.

I searched around here and I've tried all of the following conditions:

    -Reset the SMC

    -Reset NVRAM

-AHT Ran, fast mode and the full analysis - no problems found. After that, the system does boot to the desktop, but after I stop, I was unable to get another successful reboot.

-Swapped the SDS for the original HARD drive (which was in good working order when removed) and the system stopped booting in the same place on the progress bar

    -Replacement battery PRAM

    -Ran new AHT.

Now, I remember the computer to reboot once before what is going on started and seeing that the screen was a little fuzzy. It's the me first to suspect the video card - but don't would not AHT reported that? I don't know if the problem I have is a card or a video card. This computer has been completely reliable since I bought it new in 2008 and I was very happy with it. I want to keep around for a little longer if possible.

Is there something I'm missing here? I have no problem opening the iMac and to make the appropriate surgery according to the needs, but I want to be sure I'm correct operation.

    Thank you!

Install or reinstall OS X from scratch

Make sure that you have backed up your files because the following procedure will remove all of the hard drive.

    HD recovery start:

Restart the computer and after the buzzer, press on and hold down the COMMAND and R until the menu screen appears.

    Erase the drive:

    1. select in the main menu disk utility and click on the continue button.

    2. once the charges of THE select your boot volume (usually Macintosh HD) in the

list on the left. Click on the Erase tab in the main window of THE.

    3. set the type of format Mac OS extended (journaled). If necessary, click

Security and button all the option data from scratch in a single pass. Click

the clear button and wait until the process is complete.

4 leave FROM and return to the main menu.

Reinstall OS X: Select reinstall OS X and click on the install button.

Note : You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest to use Ethernet if possible

because it is three times faster than wireless.

This should install the version of Mac OS X that you had installed it.
