CUCM Kickstart file

Hello

I wanted to install CUCM 8.6 by Shoemaker, or any other automated procurement tool

So for that I want to know is there anyway I can get a kickstart file for the same thing like how to give the server NTP kickstart file or security password / certificate information and other required things

Thank you

Jean Louis Arnaud Wilkins

Nearest Cisco lets you get would be the answer file generator. If you work with VMware, you will need to generate a virtual floppy image to the VM as follows in the file.

  • Kickstart file - check or test?

    Hello

I swear I read somewhere that there is a way to test or verify a kickstart in the CLI file. I customized KS.cfg I would change and I would like to know if my syntax is correct - without having to pack in my ISO and then discover that it does not.

Can someone help me? I swear I read it was possible! Now I can't find it when I need it!

    Thank you!

I don't know about the CLI, but you can do it with the installer, simply include the command start "dryrun". The ESX and vCenter Server Installation Guide:

    dryrun (optional)

Analyzes and verifies the installation script. Does not perform the installation.

  • Automated kickstart install fails with no file or directory; ' / tardisks/net_qlcn.v00 '

I try to install ESXi 5.5u2 via kickstart on an ISO. I added the CF and Eth drivers for the card to ISO using imagebuilder, and moves very well. If I then try to change the ISO with the kickstart file, updated the boot.cfg and isolinux.cfg, the installation will fail with the above error.

    Work:

ESXi vanilla ISO, mount iso, install copy files to the directory add ks.tgz, boot.cfg, isolinux.cfg to the directory, create iso using genisoimage. Kickstart unattended installation.

    Work:

ImageBuilder ISO with drivers 8242, interactive installation

    Does not:

ImageBuilder iso, copy the Directory installation files, add ks.tgz, boot.cfg, isolinux.cfg to the directory, create iso using genisoimage. Kickstart unattended installation.

Once the installation fails I can go down the directory tree and confirm that there are no net_qlcn.v00 in /tardisks.

Andreas Peetz seems to have this problem with its gui customizer, but I think not that the fix posted by glroman apply here. =(

At this point, it seems that the installer is not extracting the net_qlcn.v00 for some reason any

Found the problem: my generation process used the same boot.cfg for each generation, rather than pull the boot.cfg out of the norm iso source and changes before the reconstruction of the iso.

  • Automatic installation with kickstart

I try to install ESXi 6 on 8 workstations with a kickstart file I have in my FTP server. My FTP server is Filezilla under windows and my firewall is disabled completely, so the FTP server is running and I'm able to download the file correctly from another linux machine. I already install ESXi in Workstation 8 without kickstart trouble-free file.

When I start my ESXi installation I specify the console startup options

    > mboot.c32 - c boot.cfg ks = FTP://FTP_PASS:FTP_USER@ftpserver_ip/KS.cfg ip = 192.168.242.47 mask = 255.255.255.0 subnet gateway = 192.168.242.1

My ESXi fails and the message claims that there is no wired network interface card. Access /var/log/esxi_install.log and I can see how the boot options are mapped correctly, but after that 'network setting options for downloading media' installation is abandoned. I think that I have to specify more options, but I don't know which.

Have been check the FTP server log and it does even not any attempt to get the file.

My kickstart file is as simple as that:

    vmaccepteula

    rootpw $up3rPa$ $

    install firstdisk - overwritevmfs

    network - bootproto = dhcp - device = vmnic0

    reset

I tested also exactly the same thing with ESXi 5.5 installation and it worked perfectly. Difference is that after all the files have been loaded in memory and installation process begins on the kernel to install ESXi 5.5 logs I can see that network modules are loaded in ESXi 6.0 are not.

Is there a way to specify in the line of boot of the order in which kickstart files and modules should be loaded?

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I failed to make it work with kickstart on a network location. However, I placed my kickstart file on the USB boot device I use for installation by stopping the installation until it begins with SHIFT + O and adding:

    > runweasel ks = usb: / ks.cfg

I know that's not the answer to the question, but there is a different path to the same place.

But if I run the Setup manually, I don't see the iscsi drive.

  • Kickstart ESXi 5 question

    Hello

I am trying to automate the process of installing my ESXi servers, but I encountered a problem that I can't solve.

I am currently pxe boot the installation media and passing a startup script to configure the basic settings. In the kickstart file I have a % POST section that comes in contact with a Web server to tell me installation is complete. This action then unstages the PXE environment, so it does not work through Setup again.

But by default, it appears that port 80 is open outgoing and not port 443 in the vmkernel.

My problem is that I have to do a HTTPS GET (not a HTTP GET) of the % of the ks script message part, but the traffic never leaves the server. At first, I thought it was a matter of ssl because of the preinstallation environment, but I changed the https port 443 to 80 on the Web server and everything works as expected and traffic is sent over https (port 80) as you wish.

I tried to run esxcli to clear the firewall rules, but I get an error of local connection, so it does not appear that I can

Does anyone know if it is possible to make a https outbound connection during the installation % POST section?

    My current post section:

    % post - interpreter = python

    Import os, httplib

    Mac = os.popen (\'esxcfg-nics-l | grep vmnic0 | awk \\\'{print $7}\\\'\').read ())

    H1 = httplib. HTTPSConnection ("192.168.3.10")

    H1. Request (\'GET\', \'/rest/server/unstage/\'+mac.replace (\':-',-'--'))

    H1. GetResponse()

    firstboot % - interpreter = python

    Import os, httplib

    Mac = os.popen (\'esxcfg-nics-l | grep vmnic0 | awk \\\'{print $7}\\\'\').read ())

    H1 = httplib. HTTPSConnection ("192.168.3.10")

    H1. Request (\'GET\', \'/rest/server/activate/\'+mac.replace (\':-',-'--'))

    H1. GetResponse()'

I hope that all this is logic, and thank you guys!

  • Kickstart: linux + vmware workstation 8?

    Hello!

Im getting a kickstart for Linux guests with vmware workstation 8.

is there a howto or whoever did this?

    concerning

    Lars

I'm not immeaditally aware of anyone doing this. I guess you are using a Red Hat based for this distribution? If so, you will want to install the development tools (the kernel headers and gcc and friends). Installation of WS should be done some time in the section cusomization of scripts of the kickstart file. If RIP you in the installer of WS, you will find the flags that will reduce the amount of questions asked (and if you dig enough deep to eliminate questions). Start the installer of linux WS help section to find the minimum set of afroementioned of the flag of questions. I would like to know how it goes... looks like fun

  • How should I correctly call ESXi 4.1 variable kickstart in the firstboot % section?

I have adjustments with a new article that I added to a kickstart file. The new article is supposed to retrieve the MAC address for vmnic0, then grep MAC address of a file to get the name of the server host and other IP addresses.

It defines the variable MAC address successfully, but other variables don't settle for some reason any. This is verified by the /etc/variables.txt file I write values in. The MAC address is in the file and followed by 4 carriage returns.

So why call the variables work in the section with the echo commands, but not when it is used by setting the variables?

Seems I have fixed my problem here.

    A couple of notes:

First OFF... by setting my variables, I had a few redundant grep commands in there. Was not cause anything to fail, but just make note.

Secondly, the section 'network - bootproto = dhcp - device = vmnic0 - addvmportgroup = 0' seems to have been the culprit. I can't say exactly where it was originally my script to fail, but if you use DHCP, the server received different DNS servers that caused the script to fail. I tried to use IP addresses instead of that in my line of wget, but it still fails. The newspapers did not help to me clue as to why it is produced either. Quite bizarre.

In any case, I decided to just change the line to use a "dummy" host name and IP address, then run a change of address and hostname IP later based on the txt file that lists the IP addresses.

  • Kickstart vSphere 4 question install script...

This is probably a matter of fast command line. Search high and low looking for such a command...

Try to set the number of ports in a vSwitch from the command line. I know that this information is found in the etc/vmware/esx.conf file. I have a sed command in my kickstart file to edit the line, however, on the post installation script restart, the switch is always back to 64. It's a step manual last (outside of Manager Update running for the post update 1 patches) that I have in my server build process.

Does anyone know of anyway to do other than using the vSphere client?

You should not manually change esx.conf file, you must specify the number of ports when generating a new vSwitch, you do something like:

    esxcfg-vswitch -a vSwitch:64

In my view, there are some checks at the start where the integrity of the esx.conf is checked and if it fails, it charges from an earlier copy known.

  • Automate ESX4 installation with kickstart

    Hello

We used to install our esx3.5 to a remastered cdiso which included the KS.cfg file. The kickstart file did some pre and PostScript. Network in the KS.cfg line was almost empty and the text mode dialog box appeared and claimed subnet, gateway, ip, name server. After entering data, the host name provided by dns and installation began to use an nfs share.

    The network line like this:

    network public static bootproto = 1 - vlanid = 0 - addvmportgroup -

Now, I'm doing the same thing with esx4:

I did a manual install of esx4 and copied the /root/ks.cfg to the esx4.iso. The line of the network has been changed to:

    network - addvmportgroup = true - device = vmnic0 - bootproto = static

When booting from the cd menu appears and asks to select the installation mode: text, graphic, overwritevmfs,... Here I press F2 and enter ks = cdrom: / ks.cfg.

After this, the installation program starts but throws an error: bootproto is set at static but "-ip =" was not established. See the screenshot! This is not the behavior expected :-(.

Does anyone here use the same installation path? This method is used here, due to not having a dhcp or pxe available.

Hoping someone can help me! Any ideas here?

    Chris

    All,

Finally got some time to work in the % pre section to get user input. tty1 must be used only. I'm just grabbing IP and hostname fqdn that the rest is read from the line append pxelinux. Using this, you need a kickstart only if your hardware is like. Much better than the 100 right? Only takes a few seconds to get user input.

Here's the kickstart until the % after article which is quite normal. A large part can be moved to if necessary % pre.

  • ESX 4 no kickstart more hard drive: ks = hd:sda1 / ks.cfg?

    Hello

    label text kernel/pxeboot/vmlinuz append text ks = hd:sda1 initrd=/pxeboot/initrd.img / default ks.cfg

... I tried to install ESX 4 the same way, but the kickstart file does not read!

The installation guide is incompatible, it gives here: by default the install script, HTTP/HTTPS, FTP, NFS, USB flash drive (what reads to me like ks = HD) disk space

    but only this kickstart for starting places: ks = cdrom:, ks = file: / / & lt; path & gt; / ks.cfg, ks = ftp: / / < Server > / < path > ks.cfg , ks= http:// < Server > / < Path > / KS.cfg , nfs = nfs: / / & lt; server & gt; / & lt; path & gt; / ks.cfg

    Any ideas?

    Max

    Hi, Max.

KS = hd is not supported in vSphere 4.0.

If you have ks file on disk, you can use ks = UUID:.

For more details, please refer to ESX and vCenter Server Installation Guide (http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_40_esx_vc_installation_guide.pdf), page 26.

    Thank you.

  • Located in alt - f12 vmkernel console command line & set as default kickstart

I would change all my existing ESX 3.5U4 servers such as "vmkernel (non-interactive) newspaper" console Alt - F12. Since I have too much to do this manually, anyone can propose a command-line option to perform the following operations:

First, put the console to the console log vmkernel Alt - F12.

Second, make sure you stay like that for each future start of ESX... I would put this to all of my systems and put it in my example kickstart file.

You can use 'chvt' to change the active console.
