Cumulative security updates view failure status

original title: cumulative security updates

When they install any 'Cumulative Security Update"for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows Vista for x 64 systems, but never properly and always a status 'failed '. I need help!

Hello

(1) what is the number of KB updates which do not have the status?

(2) what is the exact error message do you get?

I suggest you try the steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Try manually install updates from Microsoft Download Center.

a. go to the Microsoft Download site, type the number of "KB" of the update in the download search box and then click OK.

b. in the list of search results, click on the (KB) Knowledge Base article link to go to the download page. If there is more than one list, look for a link that goes to the Microsoft Download Center.

c. If there are several versions on the download page, find the appropriate for your computer. Click on the download button and save the update to your desktop.

d. When you are prompted, click open to install the update.

Method 2:

Set up your computer in a clean boot state and then try to install the updates.

By setting your boot system minimum state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After the boot minimum troubleshooting step, follow step 7 in the link provided to return the computer to a Normal startup mode.

Method 3: The problem can also be caused by your security such as anti-virus program or a firewall of Windows /Defender that can have conflicting parameters as to not not to perform certain tasks. I suggest you temporary disable antivirus and firewall and check the result again. You must activate new security that you was disabled programs.
Disable the antivirus software:
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 4: If the problem persists, then try to reset components to update Windows from the following link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

Hope this information is useful.

OK, I'll be back and I see your scary prognosis. I guess it would take some time to complete because it invovled five years of updates from McAfee to be reinstalled. If it takes about an hour, I should be able to get this done.

I have reviewed your steps again and have a question before I enter into it-

Given that this procedure you built has several reboots, how can I stop Windows trying to do the update of KB2618444 during each reboot of the tel? According to your interior, the update in question should be attempted that after reinstalling McAfee is carried out correctly, right?

    See you soon.

    Repost...

The computer must NOT be connected to the internet or local area network (i.e. other computers) in its current state. All your personal data (e.g., banking online & passwords credit card) must be considered at risk, if not already compromised.

Given that this procedure you built has several reboots, how can I stop Windows trying to do the update of KB2618444 during each reboot of the tel?

Don't worry about this. In any event, step #11 "purges" the queue KB2618444.

Comment: IMHO, McAfee Security Center is one of the worst (if not the worst) & most precarious security market suites. A casual survey of the malware removal forums shows that AVG Free is installed on most of the computers infected with the suite McAfee runs a close second.

[There is a reason that so many ISPs around the world offer McAfee Security Suite as a freebie: customers get this that they don't pay for.]

If it was my computer, I would install Microsoft Security Essentials (free) instead of reinstalling the suite McAfee at the #3-Oui stage, even if the subscription does not expire until September 2013.

My system works fine by the way, it's just loud enough to become irritating!

    Robson1982,
If this noise seems to come from the disc itself, and is happening even at rest, and you do not run a program, then I would suggest contacting the OEM of service possible.  It may be a hardware problem they need to be made aware of (or already know and have a fix for).
