    Windows Update keeps wanting to install "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP (KB2618444)", even if it appears in the list of updates to inistalled in the control panel.  The installation fails.  When I use "Fix it", it indicates that default Windows update data locations have changed, but I can't 'Fix It' to do the repair.  In what could be a related issue, Windows Data Execution Prevention (part of IE 8?) detects a malfunctioning or malicious add-on, whenever I try to access a video on ESPN3 and closes the Web page.  However, 'Fix It' can not detect any problems with the modules.  I don't know what else to try to fix any of these problems.

I get an error 0 x 80070002. From the help page, I was directed to a Microsoft page that applies only to Windows XP or Windows Server 2003; There is no mention of Vista!

    I tried patches of so-called anyway, and they don't work.

    Because it won't install, apparently no other update will install either. I feel like I am on a kind of merry-go-round!

    Hi MeanOld Julie,

    Thanks for posting to the instance on this issue.

    I will try to help you with this.

    What I think you should try, is step 1 of this article to clean boot - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796

    Then try to download the update on the Microsoft Downloads site.

    Try this link to select to download: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/results.aspx?freetext=958623&displaylang=en&stype=s_basic be sure to use your correct revision of Windows when downloading.

    If this does not resolve the problem, make sure to follow the steps described in step 7 of the clean boot article to get your system in Normal State.

    If the previous steps do not resolve the problem, please run CheckSUR then try the update again.

    Here is the link to checksur - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
    Follow the steps described in the article.

    And finally, if there is still no willingness, why don't you check that the file system is in good health on the PC.

    If you already have a good backup in place, just run SFC/scannow from your Windows Media.

    Follow the steps in this article involving this process: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

  • IE9 Security update error 80070057 kb2829530

    I am running Windows Vista Business 32-bit SP2 OS.

    I got IE9 installed for about 2 years, but the last kb2829530 of security update installs not and gives error 80070057.

    I can't find any information on the internet on this subject.

    I tried many general suggestions on mistakes of update Windows such as disabling services like Windows update and WICKS, cleaning of their files and then turn power on. Nothing seemed to work.

    I tried to uninstall IE9 completely but the uninstall fails with "unknown error."

    Someone at - it suggestions of andy?

    Ok...

    Your reference to an "install IE9 update' was quite opaque & open to interpretation for me.

    [If you couldn't uninstall IE9 still IE9 has been suddenly offered by Windows Update again, a ' wipe ' reload n ' was the best course of action IMHO.]

    OK, I'll be back and I see your scary prognosis. I guess it would take some time to complete because it invovled five years of updates from McAfee to be reinstalled. If it takes about an hour, I should be able to get this done.

    I have reviewed your steps again and have a question before I enter into it-

    Given that this procedure you built has several reboots, how can I stop Windows trying to do the update of KB2618444 during each reboot of the tel? According to your interior, the update in question should be attempted that after reinstalling McAfee is carried out correctly, right?

    See you soon.

    Repost...

    The computer must NOT be connected to the internet or local area network (i.e. other computers) in its current state. All your personal data (e.g., banking online & passwords credit card) must be considered at risk, if not already compromised.

    Given that this procedure you built has several reboots, how can I stop Windows trying to do the update of KB2618444 during each reboot of the tel?

    Don't worry about this. In any event, step #11 "purges" the queue KB2618444.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Comment: IMHO, McAfee Security Center is one of the worst (if not the worst) & most precarious security market suites. A casual survey of the malware removal forums shows that AVG Free is installed on most of the computers infected with the suite McAfee runs a close second.
    [There is a reason that so many ISPs around the world offer McAfee Security Suite as a freebie: customers get this that they don't pay for.]
    If it was my computer, I would install Microsoft Security Essentials (free) instead of reinstalling the suite McAfee at the #3-Oui stage, even if the subscription does not expire until September 2013.
