Cursor blinking on startup

I get a flashing cursor on my laptop of Wondows Vista on initialize toward the top.

By pressing F8, I can't access the menu with the Safe Mode option.

I used a Windows Vista CD of manufacter another (I have a Toshiba laptop and I used a Vista for Dell), then I tried to do a startup repair, it has detected no errors. I did the test of memory, it was ok.

What else can I try?

Here are a few more.

You can save your files by putting the drive in another computer as a 2nd drive (the best) or a
External drive USB enclosure and then backup to removable media such as CD, DVD,
or other USB keys. Of course, a real computer store or your system maker can help to recover
the files.

Or you can use a boot Ubuntu CD to back up data.

You can access Mode safe? Repeatedly press F8 as you start? If yes you can try Control Panel
-Double click - Driver tab - click on UPDATE driver - device Manager - map - graph
then right click on the device and UNINSTALL - REBOOT.

A method to try to get to the desktop (try in normal Windows Mode without failure) is
CTRL + ALT + DEL - Manager tasks and tab process EXPLORER.exe and COMPLETE the PROCESS
-then on the Applications tab - lower right kind - new task - in EXPLORER.exe. Safe mode
is accessible by tapping F8 as you start several times. CTRL + SHIFT + ESC will also start task
Manager.

Black screen problems are extremely difficult to repair and all patch is usually on a base hit or miss.
That there is no information on a black screen as it is on a blue screen just adds to the
Difficulty. Often using a restore point or Startup Repair will have no effect. You can try a
Google to see the proposed repairs, whom some have worked however these cover a wide
field efforts.

Here's a video of one of them.

You have a Vista disk? You can try restoring the system to it. If you do not have the disks
the manufacturer of your system will sell them at low prices. Or try in safe mode if you can get there.

These require the correct Vista discs since you can not start safe mode.

If necessary and you can access all ordinary Windows.

You can try an In-Place Upgrade (hopefully save programs and data) or a repair installation
(if all goes well, the data records and need to reinstall programs). Be sure to do a good backup or three.

You can use another DVD that aren't copy protected but you you need to own

If nothing works, you can make a repair facility that must save the data but you will need to reinstall the programs. This also requires correct Vista disks especially for OEM versions.
You will need to know your product Code.

I can see the cursor blinking, but I can't do anything with it.

I tried to access the page of the BIOS pressing F1 but nothing just this screen with the strange letters on it. Also I don't know the history of the laptop so any ideas what is wrong I want to get the job of the laptop?

    Hello

You can access the BIOS if you press ESC I n know why you try F1?

You have installed a new HARD drive now? If so, you should check if the HARD drive is recognized correctly in the BIOS. If so, you can start with the installation of the driver because the new hard drives are empty then the cursor blinks and nothing happens.

Simplest is that you use the Toshiba recovery disc because it contains an image of the settings from the factory with all the drivers and tools. Just follow the instructions of scree and Windows will be reinstalled.
Alternative, you can also take a Microsoft Windows disk, but you will need to download and install all the drivers step by step.

  • Vista will not start! Black screen, no mouse, no cursor pointer. Startup Repair cannot repair. Details say 'wrong pass '. What is the correct syntax for pkgmgr to uninstall?

Vista will not start!  Black screen, no mouse, no cursor pointer.  Startup Repair cannot repair.  Details say 'wrong pass '.  It looks like all the files are well intact on the disk.

What is the correct for pkgmgr syntax when you try to uninstall an update by using a command prompt when starting Vista OS disk?  I entered the following in the "x:\Sources >" prompt:

    start /w pkgmgr/o: "C:\; /Up:Package_1_for_KB2840149~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.1.0 C:\Windows.

When I run this command it ends quickly and when I run 'echo %errorlevel%' I get '5', which seems to mean 'access denied'.  How am I supposed to have access to remove the patch?  Am I missing something?  Perhaps a switch in the syntax to access?  Help, please.  Thank you.

I tried both options that you recommended.  As initially stated, no boot option would produce something other than the black screen.  I tried to boot from a drive and restoring the system running, but she didn't, and when I tried to do it again the recovery console could not find restore points. ?.

An update, the computer is now fixed.  Oddly enough, I ran recovery of starting a drive at least 8 times and each time I checked the details and he said: he ran chkdsk without error and return to the same cause "a patch is preventing windows to start.  I even ran chkdsk c: /f from a prompt command from the recovery disk and it found no errors.  That's when I posted the question above after trying to remove the patch in the manner described above.  After some time and frustration, I decided to run chkdsk /r c:.  It took awhile, but it found 1 bad sector, moved the data, the bad sector tag and finished.  Once I restarted from that, everything came and went very well.

So, the original question remains, what was missing in the command to run pkgmgr/high: successfully.  And the new question exists as to why start Recovery claims run chkdsk if it does not, or he turns the version/f not the version/r the same as I did manually?  It would be good to know for the future.  Thank you!

  • The constant cursor blink

    Separated from this thread.

I tried the fixes that have been listed for this problem (mainly involving changing default printer) and no permit.  I have a 4 1/2 years, Fujitsu lifebook and Windows 7 with Office 2013.  The cursor blink is constant.  Happens no matter what program I am. It happens on the desktop. Happens to the word & Powerpoint. Right now, I'm watching come in Firefox. My default printer is about to OneNote.  Changing default printers has not helped at all.  I even deleted all other printers and restarted. Always the same.

Is there a chance that this is caused by a Windows Update?  It seemed to start after that I not let install some automatic updates.

  • Black screen with cursor during windows startup

    Hello

After a recent McAfee virus scan update, it asked me to restart my computer. After restarting, I can't have a black screen with the cursor in the middle.

I have tried pressing F8 on startup to the top:
