  Secondly, I have read similar questions might appear if you accidentally touch the surface of the touchpad while typing. That is why it s advisable to disable the touch pad using the FN + F9 key and to check if this problem still persists.

  It turns out it was Dell SupportAssist.

  I disabled this in services, but apparently it is still ongoing.

  Check with the manufacturer of system support, documentation in line, or forums as there

  I have an external monitor connected to my MacBook Air.  When I turn off the external monitor (MacBook cover is already closed at that time) and return hours later to turn on the monitor, I find most of my windows have been dispersed (jumped) off the screen.  It occurs on multiple applications: terminal, iMail, browser Chrome, Preview, etc...  I usually find the window peeking out of the side of the screen - a small shard of window - and I have to drag it to the center of the screen.  I have to do for almost all windows (again not all windows to do this).  Its very annoying.  Any ideas on what is the cause?

  I am running v10.11.1 El Capitan (B 15, 42) on MacBook Air (13 inch, mid 2013).  External monitor is Dell.

  I forgot to mention.  It happens all of a sudden... eventually after the upgrade to El Capitan?  (but I am not sure).

  Hi wonder if anyone can help. When I type in gmail the cursor randomly jumps to different parts of the page without me touching the touchpad or buttons. My palms are based next to the touch pad but it sees enough to cause problems. I noticed that if I raise my palms to their resting place, the problem goes away, but it is a very uncomfortable way to type.   You can change the options to use Select or hand tool under Edit > Preferences > General

  Also, if you have selected "use keys.. accelerators" option, then you can simply press V as the shortcut key for the selection tool.
