Custom folder names import

I've recently switched to Lightroom and I was wondering if it is possible to change the date format for the files used to inport. Ideally, I would like to use a structure like this:

2012

| _ 01 - Jan

| _ 02 - Feb

As far as I can see this is not possible with the buit - in import presets organized by date. Is it possible to customize these formats to add 2012/01 - Jan etc.?

Norman put this in your TranslatedStrings.txt:

"$$$/AgImportDialog/ShootArrangement_6/Template=%Y/%m - %b.

' $$$ / AgImportDialog/ShootArrangement_6/Label = by date: 2012/04 - Apr.

  • How to get the right folder name/location during import?

I can't get LR 3.x to import into the desired folder structure, as I used to do with

LR 1.x and 2.x.  I am trying a structure that looks like this:

    http://content.screencast.com/users/jfriend/folders/Jing/media/2e238e71-feda-4a1d-adb1-65124c611838/2011-02-26_2200.png

I want LR to automatically create a folder with the timestamp in it and find the right year and then let me in the last part of the name of the folder that identifies the object, prior to importation.  So far, all I can get is the name of the file generated automatically by date with no ability to edit or a folder name completely custom where I locate correctly and typing the entire name, including the date.  In LR 1.x and 2.x, it was really easy.  LR suggest the name of the folder (or multiple folder names if the images extend over several dates) with the date in it, and I could double-click it to add the additional designation prior to importation.  Could not find any way to do in LR 3.x.  Does that mean, that I have to do the import, wait it ends and then go back and manually rename each file that it created.  It's especially a pain when there are several folders (through multiple dates) or when my backup program has already hit and made a backup of the date generated automatically until I come and rename it manually.

So my question is, how do I get LR for the right folder name based on the date in the folder location good auto suggestion and I would like to add something on the end of it before importing?  It was very easy in the import of LR1.x and 2.x.

He slipped under the radar when again the new window import. If all goes well, we will get it back in the next major update. In the meantime. You can add the importation of additional text in right click on the folder name and then selecting rename in the context menu.

  • Why did LR change my photos imported in a date folder names and moving them to my disc external hard to my C: drive internal?

I just started using Lightroom version 4.4 recently. I imported my 1 hour and Keywords photos files. I have all my photos on an external drive and my catalog on my drive is internal.

All my files were remaining on my external drive that I would like but then recently, after keywording a folder full of photos LR would change my folder name on the date the photos were taken and

export to my internal C: drive. I somehow inadvertently changing a default setting? How can I prevent the LR do this? Help, please. I'm stuck until I can solve this problem.

It happened because you have not read carefully the import dialog before pressing the button import.

The next time you import, look at all the parameters and confirm that they are what you want. In this case, you forgot that you said it to copy or move the pictures, when it seems that Add would be the option you want. These are at the top of the dialog box.

  • LR 5.7 - impossible to create a new folder and import photos in this folder [was: could Adobe Lightroom Fix so that it is functional?]

I can't believe that after use adobe for years that lightroom can be this difficult to maneuver - please fix this intuitive user program. It is so far for simplicity of use. Please fix or return to support the opening. My images/files and folders are a total disaster.

.. .you you create a folder and cannot import directly in this folder, etc.

Perhaps the difficulty here, comes to design two sequential tasks, rather than one integrated task, for example:

    • Make a folder, manually put the pictures in there, then go and find this place AGAIN, for an import with TDA
    • Create a folder, and then to go and find this place again as an import with the copy destination

No one who is attractive to me. Lightroom is IMO more useful when rationalizing away the boring stuff.

LR can make the file for YOU and drop the images into that, according to your instructions, while import.

"Let's say that my system was focused on the year at the top level, then the month, then records a day in this framework, each preceded the date in a format standard, so-called ' 2016 - 07 - 16. LR can run it for me immediately, as an automatic process of hands-free and without error. So if I want to, after import, I can add a descriptive text (customer, situation, whatever) on a given from LR folder name.

Otherwise I want can I have LR just go a standard parent folder and then type a name of subfolder custom in the dialog import (Destination Board) in order to meet the specific needs of this - if not automated - import with a copy. Type in certain keywords lot too, perhaps.

IOW: remember that an import preset to re - initialize the import settings and individualize then from there. But I prefer the former kind Setup that even if you do not individualize that is offered to all, always not something that auto-fichiers images in a useful and meaningful way. I do not customize folder names myself, so this just just there.

  • Some folder names to avoid moving message in them

31.0 running on Windows XP SP3. This is the second time I've noticed this problem but I didn't report one and don't remember the details.

I created a folder named '_OpenCart' Local When I try to move mail in my Inbox by drag-and - drop or other methods in this case, the mail does not move. No error is generated, the message simply remains in the Inbox and _OpenCart remains empty.

Change the name of the folder to '_Open Cart' (note the space) solves the problem. Can I change the name back again and again, and when the space is there I can move the mail folder. If I remove the space in the folder name, and then I can't move mail in the folder. The file can be opened and I can read messages that have been put there when the name was "_Open Cart", and I can get out message to other folders, but I can't add more messages in the folder "_OpenCart".

Thanks, your explanation makes sense and I agree in a perfect world, it should be fixed, but I'm sure that there are more important things to work on.

I checked the link you provided and I will try to use characters that appear not to cause problems, such as space and the dash force my files frequently used for the top of the list.

Overall I am pretty happy with TB, much less eccentric than my old Eudora, although I always use up automatic off-mail I don't want to clutter my Outbox.

  • Any significance to the folder names?

I have just flashed the new fuse to the latest version of the firmware of my wife.  I changed the mode of meteorological service of the Canada.  Now I'm ready remove all music that came pre-installed on the "rocket" because they are all in MTP mode.  When I delete existing files, it is important to keep the same folders and folder names?

As if I want to install pictures and video files, they into specifically named folders to read correctly?  If so, what records are crutial for keep?

The "rocket" will find your content just about anywhere, if folder names are not that critical.  However, content placed in the files of audio books and Podcasts is treated specially.  But no worries, the "rocket" automatically creates the standard for you files if they are missing.

  • Try to copy a folder with subfolders, some don't copy, get the message that the folder names are too long under Windows 7

Hi, when you try to copy a folder with lots of subfolders, some files don't copy.  I get a message that the folder names are too long, and the only option is to ignore these files.  Anyone know the maximum folder (and also) name length that will copy windows 7?

    Thank you

    Hello

    a. What are the data you're trying to move?
    b. what operating system (for example Windows files) files?
    c. What is the method that you use to copy data?

Windows 7 supports filename up to 260 characters. I would ask you to decrease the characters in the file name and then try to copy the files.

Let us, run disk checking hard disk utility and then check.
    Here's how:
    1. open the computer by clicking the Start button, click computer.
    2. click on the drive you want to check, and then click Properties.
    3. click on the Tools tab and then, under check for errors, click Find now. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
To automatically repair problems with files and folders that the scan detects, select automatically fix file system errors. Otherwise, the disk check will be a problem, but not to fix them.
To perform a thorough check, select search and attempt to recover bad sectors. This analysis tries to find and repair physical errors on the disk itself, and it may take much longer to complete.
To check for errors file and the physical errors, select both automatically fix errors in file system and search for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
    4. click on start.

Depending on the size of your drive, it may take several minutes. For best results, do not use your computer for any other tasks while it checks errors.

Important: Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data can be lost.

    I hope this helps.

  • Add the folder names in the path of the image as keywords separated from image metadata

Hi all, I tried to find a solution online and customize the amazing Paul Riggott script, but I'm not able to make it work the way I need.

I have my customer images organized in the structure of folders and subfolders. For all images (thousands of files in the subfolders a lot) I need a script for Adobe Bridge to take all the way from the image, separated from individual files paths file and store these records in the form of keywords separated in the metadata of the image.

For example, I have the image.jpg/Work/Job01/share/Photos and image B.jpg file in the folder/Work/Job02/PartB/Photos. After I run the script from Adobe Bridge on file/work, I want to have for the two added images keywords

    Size: Work; Job01; Share; Photos

    Notice: Work; Job02; PartB; Photos

As 'Work' and 'Pictures' folders are usually present, it would be nice to have the opportunity to put these two exact strings in script and exclude keywords added, but it is not necessary :-)

The bellows of script adds one keyword ~photos/Work/Job01/share/Photos, for what is necessary is to divide and make key words separated substrings. This would allow me to move pictures anywhere and still be able to filter as a group structure (as number of employment, or part name).

Please, could someone show me how to update this script? Or is there another solution that I just haven't found yet?

    Thank you, Petr

Yes. I don't think that it is widely used. It is a bit like a folder name used automatically in iPhoto as an event.

  • Custom folder - basic questions

    Hello world

    Hope everything goes well...

I am aware that one can create a
Declaration and to use it to create a custom folder of discoverer.

I was wondering when you tend to go with this approach?

You do this so that you can-
    (1) avoid complex queries of Discoverer - for example, you want to avoid using too many analytical functions
in order to prepare the data using SQL?

    (2) create a NEW query to scout out this custom folder
This technique is so want to do a query on a query

I would like to create a custom for these 2 reasons folder.

What are your opinions? TX, sandra

    Hi Sandra,.

    Let's specify the terms:

Normally, you developed your Select statement that returns the data you need in the discoverer. Now, you have two choices:

    1. send the SQL your administrator to Disco and to allow him to create a custom Discoverer folder, where it uses your SQL directly (copy & paste is discoverer admin)

    2. you can use your Select statement and store it in the database and give it a name. do you it through:
    Create view your_view_name
    as
    Select in...;

You can use this view as any other table to select:
    Select * from your_view_name;

And it returns the same results as your first select statement. The advantage is that this view exists as an object in the comic book, means that anyone can use (for example for testing), while you as developer maintain.

When you have a view, then in the administrator of discoverer rather than create a custom folder you can create a 'normal' folder through "New database folder". Then it will list all your tables and views in the database, if you select your point of view "your_view_name" and it will create a folder for this (each column in the view will get something in the etc folder).

With regard to performance: you usually can't tell that this or that performs better, because the select statement of the view and in the custom folder may be the same. However if it is in the comic book as a point of view, then the DBA can monitor and optimize the performance of better, since it can be seen as an object.

Beside that, there are some limitations for select statements that you can use in a custom folder. You don't have these limits in the views of the DB. However, these are fairly complex statements that you maybe do not miss so far...

    Benefits for testing regarding:
The advantage with a view of DB is: you create a view for your select statement and then you can ask someone else to check if it returns the correct data. They will have to do a:
    Select * from your_view_name where...;

If something is not correct, you change the view, but you don't need to send them the SQL Mail again... SQLs mail is something I try to avoid, because people always copy & paste errors or e-mail program does stupid things with the code or something else... I prefer to keep the 'application' (statement of code / select source) hidden from the person that tests... they can validate based on the results.

But I don't want to focus too much on this one, since normally it should test your users in Discoverer, it is that they will use, so they should test here. And here, it doesn't have a difference for the end user you have views or custom folders.

With regard to the control of Source Code or "Version Control":
We use CVS or Subversion to store the code of our program. Then all the program code is stored in a version control system, so that you can keep track of the evolution over time, see which version is installed when (we 'labels' with the date of the deployment on the version installed) etc.

I assume that you store your program code somewhere in a folder, and you are using different folders for different versions or something. It's pretty nasty, CVS or Subversion or systems like this easier ;)

    Regarding the automatic deployment:
Once we have developed a certain program (statement, package), and it works fine, then store us it as a new version in our CVS (version control). Then we do a UAT (user acceptance testing). IF all goes well and approved for production, so it must be installed on the production server.
For this, we have a so-called deployment & generation system. We use ANTS to it (comes from the Java community I think).

What we do when we want to have something installed: we run a script called 'build.sh' with some parameters:
    Build.sh deploy_production mon_project

This means we want to deploy the program "mon_project" on the production system. the rest is handled by the script:
    1. download the latest version of the program from CVS code
    2. prepare & copy all the files on the production servers
    3. run one or several scripts on the production servers installation install everything (for example it will run our "create view... "script via SQLPlus)."
    4. check if the installation goes very well
    5. put a label/sticker in CVS that this version of the specific program has been installed on the current date on the production system

You can add things more if you want... of course not everything is automated on our site, for example the discoverer files are always born manually. But it is an action of time. If you make a minor change to the view of DB (not), then you must install the new version of the view only, but nothing should be done in discoverer with the folder.

Well, I could go on for a long time explain the concept more... But meanwhile, I forgot already what was the initial problem :-D

    Best regards
    David.

My real question is Mozilla has a copy of my favorites? They have existed in a folder called imported from Firefox on my old CPU.

Better is to restore the JSON backup in the Bookmarks Manager.

    • Bookmarks > show all bookmarks > import and backup > restore

You can save current bookmarks to an HTML file and import this backup after you restore the backup JSON as who will replace all current bookmarks.
It is possible to unpack the JSON backup, but you'd still have to restore that backup to get the bookmarks in the Bookmarks Manager.

  • Folder OSX sort criteria when Dates are used as folder names

    Hello

I treat and store a lot of pictures in my computer and then, of course, eventually transfer to external storage. I used day/date/year (June 1, 2016) as the format of the folder names. OSX does not sort the folders based on these dates, instead it sorts them according to the number of days (I think). Is it possible to get the Finder to sort according to folder names and come to understand that the names are in fact dates?

    Thank you very much.

    Faurie

    Not that I know of.

To have the Finder by names of date, you can use the format YYYY/MM/DD (01/06/2016), which is quite standard in accounting, etc..

Note also that Finder can sort by date of creation, implemented to date and date added timestamps. If you do not see these columns in a Finder list view window, right-click on any column header and check what you want to see.

  • How to search the folder hierarchy by the parties of a folder name. Is there a library similar to library bookmark folder to facilitate the Organization of record?

How can I search by folder for the email account names and names of folder of bookmarks by keywords or parts of the name of the folder? Is there a way to enter and to associate keywords to send/benchmark folder names?

We put all our transactions in messaging and bookmarks in a reversed under the account name and appropriate ISP user tree structure, but often end up with double taxonomic entries under multiple ISP accounts such as Roadrunner or Google-mail address for the same Windows user account and the name. Sometimes I create a same folder in both accounts. Be able to search by folder_name in all e-mail accounts in the same Windows user name would be wonderful to correct the bifurcations in taxonomy of folder name.

What I do not right - please?

    Please - Chris

I use the add-on for quick folder move - it has a MRU list and a box of text in which you can type a folder name, with an incremental search phase.

    https://addons.Mozilla.org/en-us/Thunderbird/addon/quick-folder-move/?src=API

You my also find the QuickFolders useful add-on.

I also wonder if your deposit under the ISP account is the best way to go. I would look of combining messages from accounts under local folders into an independent style of the account.
