Customization of comments on vCenter 4.1.0

I've got vCenter installed on Windows server 2008 R2 (64-bit).  I think I have the sysprep files in the right place: C:\Users\All Users\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep and I have them here: C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep.

However, when I try to deploy a VM from a template, the sheet of "Guest" customization of the dialog "Deploy the model" has the message:

"Customizing Windows resources are found on the server."

This happens with virtual XP and Server 2003 (64-bit) machines virtual machines.  Can someone please tell what steps I jumped or what settings I may be incorrect?  I'd appreciate any help!

Thank you in advance.

Hello.

What your directory structure looks like under "C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep" - the correct configuration is detailed in KB 1005593.

Good luck!

  • Domain join when you use a customization of comments (sysprep)

    All,

I just started experimenting with using a sysprep comments customization with one of my view stocks and noticed a few things:

    Display using Vista, 4.6:

    • Once desktop computers are put in service and start, they now ask a computer name.
      • They used to get renamed by View Manager.
    • They also no longer join the field.
      • It's used to work too.
    • After the local login, they push me to identify the network connection such as Home\Work\Public.

My guess is that Sysprep is now handling customization, View Manager will be the name of the virtual machine (host name, no VM name) is more or join them to the domain.  I have not edited my Sysprep.inf file for that renowned or computers joined to the domain, I was really hoping to have View Manager handle this.  I want the "Names of VM" Virtual Machine to match the name of the host as the operating system setup.

It's true that I now need to rely on Sysprep to manage all of the above?  It is not super clear in the display Manager Interface.

    Thank you

    Drew

Sorry, I was in the car earlier and couldn't post a lot of details.   If you were to create a customization specification in vCenter you can choose the option to the name of the guest to match the virtual machine.  You could then define your domain information so that he would join during the sysprep process.     Once you have completed your customization, you can change the pool and select this customization.   I have used sysprep a few times on a few pools test and it seems to work fine.

Let us know how it goes.

Here, any help would be greatly appreciated I have a quality assurance team to test the 2003 64 bits and at the present time, they are unable to do so because they do not receive an IP address from the scope of the Labmanager.

    Thank you

    Nadine

    You are missing something:

    C:\sysprep\i386\$OEM$

This file should be present in the directory SYSPREP on the Lab Manager, if not, then something is missing.  I believe that Lab Manager that creates during Setup, but you can do ths following

First of all, we need to make a folder path that looks like this

    sysprep\Win2k3_64\i386\$ OEM$

In the oem folder, make a txt file named:

    Cmdlines.txt

Open the file and just put this in it:

    \[Commands]

    'TAG_RUN_CUSTOMIZATION_EXE '.

This should replicate to have the correct file:

    C:\Program VMware Lab Manager\Tools\CustomizeGuest\Windows\Sysprep\Win2k3_64\i386\$OEM$\cmdlines.txt

(Note that your way this may differ on the Lab Manager server)

Once this is done, you will need to rebuild the sysprep packages before deploying again.

Note, you will need to each sysprep folder path too.

    Kind regards

  • Permission denied when you try to customize the comments

    Members of the community-

I have a Virtual Center server that manages multiple servers.  Some of our users have the Administrator role to ensure that their servers.  Those users who don't have administrator access to their servers receive the following error message when you try to run the wizard of comments o/s to customize when you deploy a model virtual computer: "Permission to perform this operation is denied."  I'm assuming that they need some kind of "global" permission to make this work.  Someone at - it ideas?

    Thank you

    James

If you have a plug of customization that users need access to, you must give 'Read customization Specifications' (and which should be given initially to the inventory: host & Clusters.)  This should be done with his own role, and be sure to uncheck spread.

Whether, in respect of the inventory: models & Virtual Machines, you definitely need permissions on some files... I think that you need to "VM-> Configuration-> model to deploy" privileged in the folder where the template is stored, as well as privileges of creation of virtual machine on the record they'll record the deployed virtual computer.  Here, you must also define a custom role (do not change the default roles - always leaving them intact as guidelines)

    Hope that helps.

  • Customization of comments 2003 64 bit?

Running VC 2.5 U2 and I try to use the Customization Wizard to comments for 2003 64 bit VMs.  Doesn't seem to work.  I have installed sysprep tools:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep

And uncompressed compared to 2003 R2 Ent in deploy.cab:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep\svr2003-64

I'm able to customize 2003 32-bit VMs with no problems.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance,

    Geob

have you copied the sysprep command ON the CD of Windows 2003 R2 64 bit to these files?  I found that Sysprep in Windows 2003 and 2003 R2 do not seem to be compatible.

For your model, I also would remove all restore points and convert to a new model.   Then try again.

  • VM Password Reset does not. Customizations of comments

    Hey there everyone.

I have seen this happen in vCD 1.01 and thought it might be just a bug, but I came across it in vCD1.5 now as well.

I have a clean install of Windows Server 2008 R2 Web (Server Core) VM that initially works well with the default password. Once I installed VMware Tools and activated the customizations with a reset password list password does not work. Also got a situation where if I have the link stop the virtual machine and try to reset the password as shown in the screenshot below, this password no longer works. Obvisouly my initial password also will not work.

    Any ideas?

    http://files.anittel.com.au/11099541709/vc_1.jpg

If you had already turned it and THEN changed the customization settings, you need power he took and slect "power and FOrce re-customization."

Once the first power is issued has more no additional customization made even if you update settings, unless you force the customization.  It turned off, update the password and try again with the recustomization force that almost always works and is a little undocumented for sure that changes do not take effect unless you do.  This option is available only on VM not the level of vApp level.

  • How to customize the comments of RHEL 5.5?

    Greetings,

I use VMware Workstation 7.1 to run a RHEL 5.5 prompt.  The installation of the virtual machine process is very different compared to a stand-alone installation of physics. For example, the stand-alone physical installation asks for languages, keyboards and, more importantly, allow you to configure the disk partitions. Instead, when run under virtual VMware Workstation creqte new machine function, the same Setup program does not have these opportunities. It assumes a U.S. keyboard and perform a standard allowance of virtual disk space. Regarding the keyboard layout, I can change it after installation, but the disk partitioning is not, of course, editable. I need to create another virtual disk, etc. I don't understand why the same installer works differently when run independently or as a VMware create new virtual machine feature. I do?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Nicolas

Woody should be just, but it is not visible. If you create a new virtual machine initially choose custom, then select the material of the virtual machine. I always use the default value. On the next page, select "I will install OS later" and continue. Choose your operating system, whether it's in the list. On the next page, type a name for the virtual machine and specify location. Then specify the virtual computer processors. 1 it is a good start. Then follows the RAM for the virtual machine. Then is the network settings. I prefer filled if the machine is a kind of server functions and nat, if I don't have to waste his time with this and have only a standard desktop.

Hard drive adapter should be screened by the selection of the OS, so no need to change. Then create a new virtual drive (most of the time for me). I could always accept the type of hard drive on this page. Give it a size.

    And of course a name

Use now to customize the material. For me, I always remove the floppy and the CD to use my ISO image is changed. Save and start the virtual machine. I'm sure this will include physics.

But this is only the way to describe this loooooooong said Woody. Do not use easy setup.

  • Is it possible to customize your comments for each incorrect answer in the quiz review?

    Hello

When a quiz-taker selects 'review' and goes through each question quiz to examine what her answer was and what was the correct answer, is it possible to customize it? For example, assume that the person breached a certain question. The standard feedback says something like "you answered C. "The correct answer is B. Is there a way to give feedback like this: "you answered C. "It is false because the acceleration increases when net force increases. The correct answer is B. In other words, I mean the lessee quiz WHY their wrong answer was wrong. Is this possible?

Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

It is not possible to customize the text in the area of study with the current features of Captivate.  Your best approach at this time seems to be adding all this information explanatory in the legends of success and failure so that the learner gets to the place where they made the mistake.  In this way, even if they do NOT want quiz of reviews, you already told them why they got wrong.

  • PowerCLI script for the deployment of virtual machines via the model using customizations comments

Hello... I hope someone can give me a script that will do the following:

    (1) provision VMs in vCenter template (I need 125 + VMs created in the next day or two)

    (2) use the existing customizations of comments in vCenter

    (3) let me enter data warehouses available to be created on the virtual machines.  Example: I want that VMs on warehouses of specific data as LUN2, LUN5, LUN6, LUN12, LUN1, etc...  However, the script must have the ability to know when a data store is near the threshold of capacity, say 90%, so it can use one of the other warehouses available, identified in the script... similar to storage profiles.  We still have to adopt profiles storage but plan to do so once upgraded us to v5.1 in the next month or two.  We hope that this will help us keep our replicated LUN more organized during the use of SRM and copy to remote groups, our team of storage's configuration on 3PAR.

Additional information: I will use 2 styles... Windows XP and Win7.  Their respective sizes are 40 and 60 GB due to all applications for stable DR.  Data warehouses are ea 500 GB.

Please let me know if additional information is necessary... Thank you!!!

    Charles

No, unfortunately you cannot specify a folder like this.

    You'll have to do a

    $folder = get-file-name WinXP

    New-VM-$folder file...

Remove the line of New - VM WhatIf switch if you really want to start creating virtual machines.

  • Problems of cloning.  "Comments customization" option is not available.

I'm cloning a Windows 2003 Client vSpherer server.  vCenter Server runs under 2008 R2 and we run ESX 4.1.  When I clone the machine I have access the "Customize the comments" page of the wizard, but everything is gray and the chosen option is "don't customize.  Why can I not select the option "Customize using the Customization Wizard".  I've attached a screenshot of what I see.

  • Unable to customize comments opetrating windows xp system

    Hello

I'm trying to customize the Windows machine after clone use customization of the script in vCloud5.1, Im getting this error. I have attached my snapshots with log files and the error message. Help, please.

My vmware tools are up to date. y at - it all the other things I need to check? I have also successfully deployed sysprep packages.

    Hi John,.

Hmm... It appears from time to time, see also http://communities.vmware.com/thread/392941?tstart=120.

Basically, customization of comments is unable to read the OVF environment that provides information on what needs to be customized. The command that fails is:

    'C:\Program VMware Tools\vmtoolsd.exe-' cmd 'info-get guestinfo.ovfEnv '.

The problem is that the problem is intermittent. Your journal, it seems that another customization has managed only 4 minutes before. Thus, it is not likely a configuration issue.

In this case the next time, could you leave this virtual machine running and post here so that we can try to debug?

The first step would be to try to get the detailed error message by running the above command manually from 'cmd '. We save ourselves, because this command is considered to be 'safe' may return sensitive information as the encrypted passwords.

  • The upgrade to ESXi host that hosts vCenter comments

Recently, we moved our vCenter Server in a virtual machine rather than running on a dedicated machine.

A question I have for those running in this type of configuration are how do you for the upgrade of the host as comments from vCenter runs (for example ESXi 5.0 > 5.1)? We usually use Update Manager to perform the upgrade, so I was wondering if there is just more to use the old method of mode start since the level of the server installation CD or if there is another special way Im unaware of.

    Thanks in advance!

If you have shared storage, you can connect to the host where you vCenter VM is registered, it off, remove the inventory, disconnect from the host, log in another host, browse the data store, add the vCenter VM inventory on the other host, turn on the vCenter VM and then you can remidate the other host using the virtual machine.

  • Unable to join the domain using customization comments vCD

I have vCloud Director installed and running.  I created a vApp and edited the properties to allow customization of comments and more everything works so far but the computer will not join the domain.  I tried to use organization customization, as well as customize the TIME after deployment.  As soon as the server ends with the customization and is powered, I can log in and join the domain manually without any problem, I can't get comments customization to do that for me.   Its a Windows 2008 R2 server.  I found this entry at the end of the journal to customize-comments on the server:

run the command netsh interface ip set dns 12 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx static (it has the correct address for my DNS server) =

The command has been successfully run, the output of the command:

The configured DNS server is incorrect or does not exist

    Any thoughts?

It is a farily well known problem.  For a join of field works in vCloud Director, you must have on your DHCP subnet.  Many people make using the vShield edge device that is located on the network of the Org.  The sysprep process runs before tools VMware is running (which applies to the satic IP address to the client).  It's sort of a situation or hen that the guest has ip when in sysprep, so the easy solution to make it work is DHCP.  Conversely, people did it is in port, a lab post script custization in vCD Manager who entered the field after the sysprep is made completely and the guest it's static IP.  Frankly, it's something of the order of operations that is causing the problem.  We are looking at this for other clients, but at the moment, what your options are

    (1) add DHCP to the subnet by using your own server DHCP OR vShield Edge

    (2) add a PostScript of customization to join the domain, it can be inserted into the comments thus customizaion area.

Hope this helps you stop banging their heads on the wall
