You can try changing the rendering engine, its under the project settings, to another option as only the software and if you have made of the previews remove them.   I open a lot of Illustrator EPS and PDF in Photoshop - I need to convert to TIFF.

  I would just do an action to flatten the image, then set it to a shortcut key.  I have this on my computer - just press F4 (my shortcut key) and it is flattened.

  My application consists of a series of images stacked on each other. Some are transparent, some are not. I use images high resolution and resize them based on the width of the screen of the blackberry that runs the application.

  According to my experience, it is a bad idea. VMS itself is a resource hog, and I usually tell my customers that several CPUs and at least 4 GB of RAM is required to a minimum. When you add GBA to this mix then you just ask in trouble. Keep them on separate boxes and your troubleshooting of a service that will be much easier.
