  I just got a coming 8 Pro (32g).  The user manual says that I should be able to press the power button and turn off the screen.  However, when I press the power button, nothing happens.  I can for 4 seconds and the PC will ask to stop, but pressing on this button does not put the tablet in standby or turn off the screen at all.  I have to go to settings-> Power-> sleep just to turn off the screen.

  I am running Windows 8.1. After that most recent Windows Update and then restarted, the computer froze to the Toshiba start screen. Fan went into overdrive and so I pushed the power button / stop.

  Now, seems dead - button / stop, black screen, no its HARD drive is unresponsive. Only signs of life are power and battery LED on the front of the computer. Press and hold the power button for more than 10 seconds do nothing.

  As far as I know that the power button or to be more precise, the margin around the power button should be lit / lighted.

  In my opinion its not serious problem but if there s a problem for you and you are not satisfied with that, I recommend you contact the dealer to replace the unit.

  I bought a Nitro V15 Windows 10 and when I press the power button, nothing happens at all. I saw that there is a "Acer power button" app installed that allows to stop or power standby extended. My power settings are defined in a way that the power button should hibernate the computer is running on battery or so that the charge.   I just got the message that is the (indicated in bold) below Acer support team:

  "Thank you for contact Acer support.
  In regards to your concern, the settings that are currently installed on the system is the best settings to use. Basically, Windows 10 you can click the start (Windows logo) and it has the ability to shut down or restart, etc. This will allow you to close all programs before you shut down the system and avoid system problems.
  By pressing the power button for 1 second mark the system hibernate so you can still use it on a while later while all applications that you left behind are where you left them. However, if you like, you can go back to the power settings and adjust the settings (press the power button / stop) change to stop instead of Hibernate. "

  I knew only by pressing the power button for 3 + seconds force a full stop and I was not aware that by pressing for 1 second not hibernation or anything that can be defined in the power settings. It works perfectly.

• HP Pavilion 11 360: button / stop does not

  I close the laptop and then when I want to open it again the power button works and the system seems to be booting the system. However, when the HP sign disappears the screen becomes black although I can still hear the fan operation. It does not have the beginning, until I press the power button twice.   I stumbled upon your post on the laptop and wanted to help you! I looked in your question in the subject of your HP Pavilion 11 x 360 Notebook and problems with the power button works correctly. and the brightness does not properly. I see that if you change the balanced power plan options option in the book will help. Here is a link that will help you. Go to your power options. Select balance, then click on change plan settings. Click on change advanced power settings. Click on choose what the power button.

  You can try to use the Windows Update Troubleshooter to fix updates that do not come through Windows 8.  Please restart the laptop twice to make sure that all updates are completed!

  It's almost certainly a hardware failure of the LED charge to illuminate the power button.  I highly recommend that you have this repaired under warranty - depending on the time you got the PC, you may still be able to get the retailer to replace so it may be interesting to contact them about this.

  1. Download version 9 or 10 of the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) driver.
     • Navigate to HP Software and Driver Downloads site (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/drivers.html) to find the last pilot approved for your model.  Filtrer filter by version, select Microsoft Windows 8.1 on the menu drop-down.  Find the download in the category 'Driver-Chipset'  If a pilot of MEI with a version from 9 or 10 number is listed, download.  [9.5.24.1790 version 1.5 M (http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp66001-66500/sp66228.exe) works for most models.]
     • If a pilot of MEI with a version from 9 or 10 number is NOT listed, download the driver appropriate directly from Intel (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=intel+management+engine).  [9.5.24.1790 version 1.5 M (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23091/Intel-ME-9-Management-Engine-Driver-for-Intel-NUC) works for most models.]
  2. Download the Package of troubleshooting Windows 10 "show or hide updates" (http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/2/F22D5FDB-59CD-4275-8C95-1BE17BF70B21/wushowhide.diagcab).
  3. Change the Windows Update Services automatic (delayed start) parameter to the manual.
     • In Control Panel, select administrative tools, and open Services.
     • Go to Windows Update and double-click it to view its properties.
     • Click on stop to stop the service to run.
     • Change the Startup Type to manual, and then click OK.
  4. Install version 9 or 10 of the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) driver.  If you receive a warning dialog box about the replacement of a newer version of the software, accept it.
     • NOTE: You have NO need to uninstall version 11 before installing version 9 or 10.  The presence of a version of the driver is required to 'upgrade' (or demote in this case).
  5. Run the Windows 10 Troubleshooting Package 'Show or hide updates' and hide the updates of the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) driver.  (This will block your system automatically reinstall or display of updates for version 11 of the pilot).
  6. Change back the setting of Windows Update Services to manual automatic (delayed start).
  7. Restart your computer.
  8. Rejoice!  You can finally sleep and stop again.

  Only 2 years old HP Pavilion desktop computer.  The blue button and the orange key before all of a sudden stopped working.  Cannot say now if it's on standby etc.  Computer otherwise works fine.
