DaisyDisk

Nice day!

As part of a diagnosis of Apple when I needed to re - index my hard drive, I ran a trial version of DaisyDisk. I have less than 200 GB used on a 500 GB hard drive spinning. Mid 2012 10.10.5 the MacBook Pro.

Apple support person said that they have never seen this app take 5 minutes to run. But then never followed upward, so I don't know if it is good or bad.

The Genuis ran an MRI and the drive bar is good. Although it is slow.

Someone at - it using this utility and can advise?

Thanks in advance!

H

Spotlight indexes you HDD.  Daisy disc is designed to show what is on the HARD drive, not the index.  I have never used the application, rather than I use OmniDiskSweeper and great perspective (both free).

Is there a specific problem you are trying to address?  If so, please provide as much detail as you can and what you have tried so far.

Ciao.

  • iPhoto library picture problem - what is their actual size, I can delete?

    Hello

I'm trying to fix a friend's Mac airbook. It is insufficient on... out of 120 GB hard disk space, only 5 GB remaining who is causing trouble.

Now at some point, she has improved iPhoto to photos! On his computer, there are now two files... and it size differs depending on what software I use:

    OmniDiskSweeper:

    iPhoto Library 30.2 GB

    Photo Library: 15.2

    Daisydisk:

    IPhoto library: 18, 7 GB

    15.2 GB photo

    ---

    total: 33.9

    GrandPerspective:

    iPhoto: 27.9

    Photo library: 3.46

    -

    total: 31,36 GB

    Finder (information)

    IPhoto library: 30 GB

    Photo Library: 15.7 GB

    1. If the size is the iPhoto library? 30.2 GB, 30 GB, 27.9 GB or 18.7 GB? And what size it the photo library? If information can I trust?

    2. can I remove one of the libraries?

I really need to make room for her and have tried everything... the real solution appears to tackle this problem of libraries of photos.

    Help, please!

PSI don't know exactly how it migrated data. In any case I read much online and some people say that I can remove the old library, some people I can't say... or even if I do, saved on hard drive size won't matter.

beawre: this lady has no backup anywhere! (I know, crazy... but that's how she made things... I cannot now buy one for her, so I need to be careful before deleting anything)

If it does use iPhoto, you can delete the iPhoto library but you should check it first just in case

as for its size can in no way anyone without access to the computer can tell

as for space economy it will probably save a lot because it seems that she has a lot of deletions of his photo library or use iCloud photo library with optimized photos - immediately after the migration, two libraries share links to the originals and previews and deletion either saves very little space but that changes are made to one and not the other potential savings grow - my guess is that in his case, the savings will be a lot, but the only way to know is to archive the iPhoto library and delete it and restart

And be very careful about programs like OmniDiskSweeper - if you use it to remove pictures of each library it will destroy the library - you should NEVER directly remove anything on a Photos or iPhoto library - always use the program to remove things

  • Daisy disk

    Hey all

I was wondering if anyone can help. I had a version of daisy disk on my Mac Book Pro 2011 some time ago, removed with App Delete because he would never install updates and I was just tired... I've been in contact with their customer support on the remove completely, and they have no idea on what to do with my problem...

When I go to send an email and click on attachments, I have the drop down menu, dropbox, photos etc... but Daisy drive there as well white small file

I went into the files theFinder and he can't find anywhere any suggestions on how I can remove this completely!

What is "Delete the App" / which is an application that is supposed to remove apps?

Try using the manual method of:

NOT download/install an app like Mac Remover

  • MacBook Air missing hard drive space

I noticed that the free space on the hard drive on my Macbook Air has been quickly disappear even if I had not been adding lots of new files, certainly not enough to account for the 10s of gigabytes that disappeared last week. I cleaned it of useless media files, which gives him another 20 GB of space. The status bar it reflects accurately at first, but when I started the computer this morning, it had lost 30 GB of this adjustment.

After you run WhatSize DaisyDisk, I see that they have both claim that my Air uses Go 296, which is in agreement with the about this Mac, but when you look at the size of the actual folders, there is no way that they measure is added to this amount.

Using Get Info, I got the following:

    14.43 applications gb

    Users 42,45

    System of 7.77

    Library of 8.95

That all adds up to about 74 GB of used space. WhatSize actually gives me different numbers. Where in the world are the other 220 or so lack of gbs? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(Note: although I typed this out, I noticed that about 8 GB of free space have disappeared in the status bar)

Here are a few screenshots of WhatSize and disk utility. Of THE claims that 'other' includes 283 GB, but I can't understand what is included in whatever measure it as 'other '.

If you want more accurate stats from the about this Mac, then to re-index your drive: Spotlight - how to re - index folders or volumes - Apple Support.

    Free space on hard drive

    1. see Lion-Lion/mountain/storage of the Mavericks display.

    2. you can remove the data from your file except for the folder/Home/Library /.

    3. visit The FAQ XLab and read the FAQ on the free space on your hard drive.

    4. also see release space on your Mac OS X startup disk.

5 see where my disk space gone?.

    6 see the storage view.

You must empty the trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.

You should consider to replace the drive with a larger. Check out OWC of readers, tutorials and boxes tools.

Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are.

  • Ghost files - cannot delete Trash: error 50

    Hello

I have trouble to delete some files from Ghost that appeared in my garbage can:

By emptying the Recycle Bin, 50 pops up an error: "the operation cannot be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code - 50)."

I looked at lots of different topics already, nothing works. I place them in a folder and because of the different actions on the file (because the files always come with an error (cannot rename (focus error), too long to be moved, etc. file name)):

    I have so far:

    • Tried to delete the files with
      • iTrash
      • DaisyDisk
    • Repaired "Macintosh HD" with my account disk utility.
    • Fixed "Macintosh HD" using disk utility from the recovery partition (Cmd - R to start)
    • Check the file permissions in the file properties
    • Because disk utility is not the "Fix permissions" button (in El Capitan), I fixed the permissions with DiskWarrior.
    • Tried to move the file to a disk and then format the drive, but OS X Copy the folder instead of moving.
    • By using all the methods of the command prompt, I found on other messages of the forum (I don't want to navigate through my history to list them).

Yet the 50 error is still popping! Currently the thought of another workaround solution...

I know that the following would allow to settle, but I'd rather not have to do:

    • Reinstall from backup Time Machine prior
    • Create a new account and delete my old account.

Someone at - it a technique to solve this problem?

    Thank you

    James

OK, I found a nice workaround with iCloud drive and an iOS device.

    Here's what I did:

    1. Move the folder containing Ghost files to my iCloud Drive in the Finder and wait 30 seconds to display in the player to iCloud on my iOS device application 9.
    2. Remove my iCloud drive to iCloud preferences window in Mac system preferences
    3. Delete the iCloud drive folder using the iOS app
    4. Reconnect to iCloud Drive on my Mac.

    Good riddance!

  • Why don't I have a Cache of video Lightroom?

I had problems with storage for a long time, I finally bought daisydisk and discovered I had 114 GB of videos in my Cache file video Lightroom. I've never used Lightroom for what to do with the videos. I'm completely confused how both videos got stored in this cache. Why is this happen, and how to prevent it from happening in the future?

    Hi jknaacky,

You can go ahead and purge the Cache of the video since Lightroom preferences.

You have also videos imported into Lightroom?

    Kind regards

  • PDApp.log using 300 GB and I can not find where it is located.

    ^^ daisydisk says somewhere in/private/var/root.

in fact the offending file sat in the/private/var/root/Library/Logs that I couldn't see. Although a quick ' mv /private/var/root/Library/Logs/PDApp.log ~ / Desktop' and rm ~ / Desktop/PDApp.log ' and then a repair disk to regain the area still held by the file deleted and all was well again. After many hours.
