Data Guard environment connection

How should I make a data hold on patch?
Our environment is RHEL 5.4, NON-RAC physical 1 and 2 Standby Active.

I think since we have no quarterly maintenance windows for:
(1) arrest Data Guard
(2) patch and confirm each relevant databases
(3) restart data guard

Anyone can share there thoughts and experiences?

Thanks in advance.

    11.2.0.3/RHEL 5.8

    I came across several documents that speak of FLASHBACK DATABASE configuration in dataguard environments. We have several
    Physical DBs sleep (Single Instance & RAC) running in our shop. I would like to know two or three major (common) use of FLASHBACK DATABASE data child care settings.

    I understand one of the uses mentioned in the below URL ie. a logical error recovery

    http://uhesse.com/2010/08/06/using-flashback-in-a-Data-Guard-environment/

    I would like to know what are the other major/common use of Flashback Database River in environment DataGuard

    A few other uses:

    (1) flashback allows you to test your DR. So you can activate your watch. Test the connectivity of network/applications and features on your recovery site and when done return the database to a physical standby. It must however ensure that this is allowed in your environment. In some places, I worked, it would be a big no, no, because they have no needs of data loss. However some companies that will allow as long that the watch is delivered in place for some time.

    (2) in the case that you do a failover for a reason, but what has been the main site would then become available, you can flashback what has been your primary to make the eve rather than re-instatiating the database from scratch.
    For example. You have a power failure on your main site if perform you a failover and your watch becomes the principal. Once it's your main site is back online, you can convert your previous primary in a day before making a full return/restoration (or any method you choose) to recreate your standby again. However you also have the option to use flashback on this database and then convert it to a watch because it would be potentially faster than the re-instantiation of the day before.

  • Data Guard environment, how time will need to use standby Database

    Dear experts,

    OS - Windows server 2012

    Oracle Version - 11.2.0.1.0

    The size of the database - 500 GB

    I have the plan to implement Data Guard. The database size is 500 GB.

    Please find below the question

    (1) when the database is harnessed for how long take use waiting for database so immediately or a few minutes?

    (2) when the server went down how long then to connect with the server backup immediately or a few minutes?

    I'm new to the data protection environment. Kindly help me

    Hello;

    I can perform a failover or a failover with Data Guard Broker in about 20 seconds. If I don't use a broker, it takes about 3 minutes.

    Quick start failover takes less time. Time will depend on the material, etc. of configuration options.

  • Data Guard and connectable to database

    Possible to have some project documents in a CDP that is used for Data Guard and other PDB files don't not ITIS?

    No, not in the current version. You must use the PDBs als for DG or nothing.

  • 12 c database Data Guard and connectable to DR

    Hi all

    I have a database upgrade from 11.2.0.3 to 12.1.0.2 to come. The current set up is the PROD & DR are 11g data protection configuration and it works fine. The two databases are in ASM and the configuration is exactly the same as well PROD & DR sites. The database is currently 25 TB.

    I understand how make the upgrade to 12 c, then let cascading changes through on the DR database - so NON - CBD on both sites. Thinking aloud here, I would plug in the PROD database into a new CBD. I suppose I create a CBD DR and then convert DR pluggable database, modify the dataguard config (as it is at the level of the container in 12 c) and plug into the DR database in the new CBD DR? Then copy the archivelogs of CBD PROD on the DR site to fix gaps. This approach wouldn't work?

    Thoughts everyone?

    Thank you

    Vic010

    OK Oracle confirmed - you must copy the data files to the doctor and then rebuild the database of DR... Is not ideal if your database is 25 to and in full swing. The last time, he had to rebuild the database, it took a week...

  • RMAN restore until THE SNA in DATA GUARD environment

    Hello

    OS = RHL5

    DB = 11.2.0.3 primary and 1 physical database paused.

    I have a huge request changes tomorrow and its possible that I have an obligation to RESTORE the database 5 hours back because the application.

    I think to be adopted following the method of the official documentation of the Oracle (untilClause):

    MOUNT FORCE OF START

    RUN

    {

    UNTIL THE SNA 1418901.  # The necessary number SNA will be used here.

    RESTORE THE DATABASE;

    RECOVER THE DATABASE;

    }

    ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;

    I will of course take Level0 backup tonight and LEVEL1 backup before the start of the work.

    My humble question is that: If this is the good method I adopt? and if so, then what about physical databases eve? Is that something to restore/recovery too? It is not required or waiting for database necessary to create again (which I'm afraid of)?

    Flash back is not enabled.

    Pack of thank you for the suggestion.

    Best regards

    You can enable FLASHBACK DATABASE on major sites and relief and set a RESTORE POINT before the migration of the applications.

    If you stop to redo expedition to the France, the waking state is the last SNA that was applied (i.e. 1001). If you need to return the primary SNA 1011 and then resume the delivery of roll forward, Eve can continue to 1002 from totally ignorant.  If you flashback primary to a SNA lower, say, 998, you would have to flashback the night before as well (997 or 998) until you can resume redo expedition to the France.

  • service_name multiple effect the data protection environment.

    Hello

    I created an environment for the protection of data in oracle 11 g 2 (11.2.0.3) on Linux OS. Now, I wanted to have the same service_name for primary and physical database of relief?

    Is this possible? It will affect my Data guard environment in the future for some reason any?

    Please let me know if you need more information.

    Thank you

    The entire process is

    1. create the service on the primary (Data Guard apply makes available the day before)

    BEGIN

    DBMS_SERVICE. CREATE_SERVICE ('ernie', 'ernie');

    END;

    2. start the service

    DBMS_SERVICE. START_SERVICE ('ernie');

    -You can stop it too

    DBMS_SERVICE. STOP_SERVICE ('ernie');

    3 define some default settings

    BEGIN

    DBMS_SERVICE. MODIFY_SERVICE

    ('ernie',

    FAILOVER_METHOD => "BASIC."

    FAILOVER_TYPE-ONLINE "SELECT."

    FAILOVER_RETRIES-ONLINE 200

    FAILOVER_DELAY-ONLINE 1);

    END;

    /

    4. create the trigger as shown before (applied Data Guard makes available the day before)

    5. check the listener

    >lsnrctl status

    "Ernie" service has 1 instance (s).

    So original running service will always be there, but use a tnsname as I have posted before and you are ready.

    There are several advantages to this configuration:

    Guests can reconnect using the same connection string.

    Need to communicate with customers is reduced, especially after hours.

    Primary maintenance may occur with only minor interruption of service. (passage)

    Name of databases may be different without impact to the customer.

    So, replace "ernie" with something logical and you are ready to create. The nice thing about having the original service is that you can have another alias of snapshot of database for the short tests without having customers ask why the net80 is the same as the production. It's just another alias.

  • Purge logs archiving on things primary and Standby and for Data Guard RMAN

    Hi, I saw a couple of orders in regard to the purge archive records in a Data Guard configuration.

    Set UP the STRATEGY of SUPPRESSION of ARCHIVE to SHIPPED to All RELIEF;

    Set UP the STRATEGY of ARCHIVELOG DELETION to APPLIED on All RELIEF;

    Q1. The above only removes logs archiving to the primary or primary and Standby?

    Q2. If deletions above archive logs on the primary, is it really remove them (immediately) or does the FRA to delete if space is needed?

    I also saw

    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO SAVED;

    Q3. That what precedes, and once again it is something that you re primary side?

    I saw the following advice in the manual of Concepts of data protection & Admin

    Configure the DB_UNIQUE_NAME in RMAN for each database (primary and Standby) so RMAN can connect remotely to him

    Q4. Why would I want my primary ro connect to the RMAN Repository (I use the local control file) of the standby? (is this for me to say define RMAN configuration settings in the Standby) manual

    Q5. Should I only work with the RMAN Repository on the primary or should I be also in things in the deposits of RMAN (i.e. control files) of the standby?

    Q6. If I am (usually mounted but not open) Physics, of standby I able to connect to its own local repository for RMAN (i.e. control based on files) while sleep mode is just mounted?

    Q7. Similiarly if I have an old lofgical (i.e. effectively read-only), to even connect to the local RMAN Repository of Eve?

    Q8. What is the most common way to schedule a RMAN backup to such an environment? example cron, planner of the OEM, DBMS_SCHEDULER? MY instinct is cron script as Planner OEM requires running the OEM service and DBMS_SCHEDULER requires the data runs?

    Any idea greatly appreciated,

    Jim

    The above only removes logs archiving to the primary or primary and Standby?

    When CONFIGURE you a deletion policy, the configuration applies to all destinations archive

    including the flash recovery area. BACKUP - ENTRY DELETE and DELETE - ARCHIVELOG obey this configuration, like the flash recovery area.

    You can also CONFIGURE an archived redo log political suppression that newspapers are eligible for deletion only after being applied to or transferred to database backup destinations.

    If deletions above archive logs on the primary, is it really remove them (immediately) or does the FRA to delete if space is needed?

    Its a configuration, it will not erase by itself.

    If you want to use FRA for the automatic removal of the archivelogs on a database of physical before you do this:

    1. make sure that DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST is set to FRA - view parameter DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST - and - setting DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE

    2. do you have political RMAN primary and Standby set - CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY to APPLY ON ALL STANDBY;

    If you want to keep archives more you can control how long keep logs by adjusting the size of the FRA

    Great example:

    http://emrebaransel.blogspot.com/2009/03/delete-applied-archivelogs-on-standby.html

    All Oracle is worth a peek here:

    http://emrebaransel.blogspot.com/

    That what precedes, and once again it is something that you re primary side?

    I would never use it. I always had it put it this way:

    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON ALL STANDBY;

    I would use only 'BACKED UP' for the data protection system. Usually it tell oracle how many times to back up before removing.

    Why would I want my primary ro connect to the RMAN Repository?

    Because if you break down, you want to be able to backup there, too.

    Also if it remains idle for awhile you want.

    Should I only work with the RMAN Repository on the primary or should I be also in things in the deposits of RMAN (i.e. control files) of the standby?

    Always use a database of catalog RMAN with Data Guard.

    If I am (usually mounted but not open) Physics, of standby I able to connect to its own local repository for RMAN (i.e. control based on files) while sleep mode is just mounted?

    Same answer as 5, use a catalog database.

    Similiarly if I have an old lofgical (i.e. effectively read-only), to even connect to the local RMAN Repository of Eve?

    Same answer as 5, use a catalog database.

    What is the most common way to schedule a RMAN backup to such an environment? example cron, planner of the OEM, DBMS_SCHEDULER? MY instinct is cron script as Planner OEM requires running the OEM service and DBMS_SCHEDULER requires the data runs?

    I think cron is still, but they all work. I like cron because the database has a problem at work always reports its results.

    Best regards

    mseberg

    Summary

    Always use a database with RMAN catalog.

    Always use CRF with RMAN.

    Always set the deletion «To APPLY ON ALL STANDBY» policy

    DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE determines how long to keep the archives with this configuration.

  • Data Guard - ORA-17627: ORA-01017: username/password invalid name

    Hello

    I have a strange behavior with a Data Guard on Linux and Oracle 11.2.0.2 environment. Since a few days, I have the following error in the database pending alertlog:

    ORA-17627: ORA-01017: name of user and password invalid. connection refused

    ORA-17629: unable to connect to the remote database server

    First of all, I rebooted apply it on the day before without any modification. So I tried to connect to the primary database to the standby with .net Oracle successfully server. He also works in the other direction.

    I also tried to copy the password from the primary server to the standby server and I restarted the transport and apply it.

    The error occurs on the day before, but the most surprising, is that the Data Guard is always fully synchronized.

    Why I get this error and what is the function of the pr0f process?

    How can I solve this problem?

  • Additional logging with Oracle 10 g 2 streams and Data Guard

    Hello

    I have a physical environment with DB Oracle 10 g 2 and Standby with Data Guard DR CONF. At the present time, this environment will be extended to a pattern of replication using 2-way Oracle Streams Replication (for replication to the central office of this branch, other channels will be added soon). The primary DB is replicated to the other primary DB (at the telephone exchange remotely).

    So, there's my question: it is completely necessary to specify an additional record on data sources (primary) to set the 2-way Streams replication? and, if it is completely necessary, then, can configure additional connection on primary without affecting their physical Standby, or what I have to do something special?

    Thanks in advance.

    Yes, for the streams you need additional registration. There is no impact on databases physical standby.

  • Data Guard - RMAN removing archive log

    Hello

    I ' v DataGuard with physical standby.

    I do a backup only on the primaries. Both sites have ther separate backup systems.

    I ' v FRA and configured archivelog deletion with RMAN configuration:

    on primary: CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE;

    standby: CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY to APPLY ON STANDBY;

    It works fine but I think what if scenarios and I'v qestion on best practices for backup after the transition of role management. Let's say that for some reason, as i'v in switch mode sleep for a few days and the backup will be posible to watch (now primary) database. What would be the steps/reconfiguration appropriate to do?

    1 should I reconfigure RMAN?

    change of new primary to: CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE;

    change back to sleep again: CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY to APPLY ON STANDBY;

    2. make full backup

    Hello

    1. you can refer to the oracle documentation: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/rcmconfb.htm#CHDCFHBG

    section: "all archived Redo Log deletion policy."

    Document provides the best algorithm to analysis of work

    You can use the CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY BACKED UP integer TIMES TO DEVICE TYPE command to allow a policy of removal of archived newspaper. This configuration specifies that archived newspapers are eligible for deletion only when the specified number of archived log backups exist on the specified device type.

    If the deletion policy is configured with the BACKED UP integer TIMES clause, then a BACKUP ARCHIVELOG , the command copy newspapers, unless integer already exist on the specified device type backups. If integer are backups of logs, then the BACKUP ARCHIVELOG command ignores the newspapers. In this way, the deletion of archived newspaper policy works as a default NOT BACKED UP integer TIMES clause on the BACKUP ARCHIVELOG command. Note that you can override the deletion policy by specifying the FORCE option on the BACKUP command.

    The deletion of archived newspaper policy has also options specific to an environment Data Guard. , then RMAN can delete logs after they have been applied to all destinations remote mandatory. If you specify SHIPPED TO STANDBY , for example, then RMAN can remove log files when they were transferred to all destinations of mandatory relief.

    2. the paper provides good information, just to check and decide easily based on the functionality of the database role you can configure.

    It will be useful.

  • Data Guard and auditor of the Apex

    Hi all

    I seem to be unable to understand the configuration of parameters for protective Apex listener when connecting to a database.

    We have a lot of servers of databases (without data guard) and we use the command line Wizard to generate the configuration file. It's straigthforeward and

    But for a guard database, there are two servers and I seem to be unable to set it in the right way. After doing some research I came across the parameter apex.db.customURL which should solve the problem.

    Keep the references the server name, port and service. No need to delete.

    The result were errors of connection due to some incorrect port settings.

    SEVERE: The pool named: apex is not properly configured, error: IO error: format invalid number for the port number

    oracle.dbtools.common.jdbc.ConnectionPoolException: the pool named: apex is not properly configured, error: IO error: format invalid number for the port number

    What Miss me?

    You must create two entries in the configuration file "defaults.xml" for your ADR (formerly APEX Listener).

    One for db.connectionType and, secondly, for db.customURL, for example:

    customurl
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=
    (ADDRESS=(COMMUNITY=tcp.world)(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=DB-ENDUR)(Port = 1520))
    (ADDRESS=(COMMUNITY=tcp.world)(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=DB-ENDURK)(PORT = 1521))
    (LOAD_BALANCE=off)(FAILOVER=on))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=ENDUR_PROD.VERBUND.CO.AT)))

    Reference: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E56351_01/doc.30/e56293/config_file.htm#AELIG7204

    NOTE: After you change the configuration file, don't forget to restart independent ADR / Java EE application server support if ADR is deployed on one.

    Also check if your URL for a JDBC connection is working properly and if there are any questions, you can turn on debugging for ADR:

    Reference:

    Directed by Tony, you should post the ADR related questions to the appropriate forum. Reference: ADR, SODA & JSON in the database

    You can also move this thread on the forum of the ADR.

    Kind regards

  • TAF TNS entry for active data guard

    Hello world

    Need your advice on the configuration of the TNS entrance side transparent client failover of the DB in waiting in a Data Guard configuration active?

    Normally, I create a service manually and configure this service to start or stop according to the change of role of database. Then have personalities of the two sites in the entry of TNS (example below).

    TEST =

    (DESCRIPTION =

    (FAILOVER = ON)

    (ENABLE = BROKEN)

    (LOAD_BALANCE = TRUE)

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = VIP1-SITE1)(PORT = 1521))

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = VIP2-SITE1)(PORT = 1521))

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = VIP1-SITE2)(PORT = 1521))

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = VIP2-SITE2)(PORT = 1521))

    (CONNECT_DATA =

    (SERVER = DEDICATED)

    (SERVICE_NAME = TEST)

    (FAILOVER_MODE =

    (TYPE = SELECT)

    (METHOD = BASIC)

    (RETRIES = 20)

    (TIME = 2)

    )

    )

    )

    I learned this method of-> http://uhesse.com/2009/08/19/connect-time-failover-transparent-application-failover-for-data-guard/

    Is there a better way to do this? Can we achieve this using an AMT only?

    I think I found the answer. According to the document oracle practices best client failover, the service can be configured to start automatically on the standby server when the role of the db is changed. This can be achieved by creating a service with srvctl with option '-l PRIMARY' on both sites

    For example:

    Main cluster: srvctl add service d Austin s oltpworkload r - ssa1 ssa2 ssa3, ssa4-l primary SCHOOL - q TRUE EI SESSION m BASE w 10 - z 150

    Cluster of relief: srvctl add service d Houston s oltpworkload - r BSR1, ssb2, ssb3, ssb4 - l PRIMARY - q PURE EI SESSION m BASE w 10 - z 150

    Documentary link--> http://www.oracle.com/au/products/database/maa-wp-11gr2-client-failover-173305.pdf

    Also the entrance to the AMT must be created with two descriptions, one for primary and one for standby

    TNS_DG =

    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =

    (LOAD_BALANCE = OFF)

    (FAILOVER = ON)

    (ENABLE = BROKEN)

    (DESCRIPTION =

    (ADDRESS_LIST =

    (LOAD_BALANCE = ON)

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = vip1-primarydb)(PORT = 1521))

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = vip2-primarydb)(PORT = 1521))

    )

    (CONNECT_DATA =

    (SERVER = DEDICATED)

    (SERVICE_NAME = orcl)

    (FAILOVER_MODE =

    (TYPE = SELECT)

    (METHOD = BASIC)

    (RETRIES = 20)

    (TIME = 2)

    )

    )

    )

    (DESCRIPTION =

    (ADDRESS_LIST =

    (LOAD_BALANCE = ON)

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = vip1-standbydb)(PORT = 1521))

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = vip2-standbydb)(PORT = 1521))

    )

    (CONNECT_DATA =

    (SERVER = DEDICATED)

    (SERVICE_NAME = orcl)

    (FAILOVER_MODE =

    (TYPE = SELECT)

    (METHOD = BASIC)

    (RETRIES = 20)

    (TIME = 2)

    )

    )

    )

    )
