dc7800 convertible minitower & SSD?

I'm the proud recipient of a mini-tower that our society surplussed dc7800 convertible.

It is running Vista Business 32-bit.  Intel Core 2 Duo E6750.

I'm no expert on the SSD, but everything I read says that the PC must be in mode for one SSD AHCI function properly.

I downloaded the Service (identified as c01155726.pdf) reference for the dc7800 Guide.  On page 7, he says there are two modes of emulation of SATA: IDE & RAID.  I searched but couldn't find any reference on AHCI.

Can anyone tell me for sure if my plot to replace the mechanical HARD drive with an SSD is doomed to failure?

Hey, there, Travis!

I apologize.  I threw too much info out there all at once, and my lengthy post was not very organized.

I did get the disks to install 64 bit, but only to the OEM 160 GB of HARD drive.  I then tried the disks in 64-bit on the WD 1 TB on the chance that disconnect the PS/2 devices is finally allowing success, use only not the puny OEM drive.  But that has failed.

There are a few things we can say with certainty:

-Passage of the BIOS RAID (mono-disque AHCI) did not cause the Red death (RSOD) screen because I finally got a successful installation even though I had spent IDE RAID.

-Use of the disks in 64-bit isn't the problem either.

After that, I can't really say for sure, but it seems to me that:

-Disconnect the input devices non - OEM PS/2 was not the key to the success because I did it with the OEM 160 GB HDD, and with the 1 TB HDD, but only had success with the 160.

-The HP recovery disks only works with the drive OEM, or one so similar that they cannot make a difference.  If that's true, it's really lame.

Anyway, after finally getting Vista installed, I went in the Vista management tools and asked him to shrink the C: drive.  She was ready to reduce the partition to about half the original size.

Then I started from the Mint 13 64-bit disk and manually configure partitions.  I was a little nervous because recovery HP placed disks a primary partition "HP tools" at the end of the training, so that the currency would be removed between the Vista partition and the partition "HP Tools.

But it went well.  I get the screen of the GRUB bootloader to start and can go two bones.

Success at long last or partial success in any case.  I have 64-bit Windows & Linux.  And AHCI, so that the Kingwin KF-253-BK-exchangeable hot rack works.  It would have been great to move the Group towards a bigger drive, but it works.

Thanks for your help.  I hope that someone will be able to use it.

  • HP dc7800 Convertible Minitowers does not restart

I recently bought a used HP dc7800 Convertible Minitowers. It works fine, but there is a question I leave me puzzled: whenever I restart the computer through Windows, it will not start correctly. Sometimes it shows the HP splash screen and goes just a black screen, and sometimes it shows the HP splash screen and restarts repeatedly. What is more strange is that shut down the computer and put on still work manually, and the computer will boot normally.

    System information:

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33 GHz

    RAM: 6.00 GB Dual - Channel DDR2 @ 398 MHz (6-6-6-18)

    Motherboard: Hewlett-Packard 0AACh (XU1 PROCESSOR)

HARD drive: 149GB Western Digital WDC WD1600AAJS-60B4A0 ATA Device (SATA)

I agree Rick, that may be the problem.

I don't see any BIOS date of issue (look under Vista) have nothing to do with Bitlocker or or boot up/reboot issues.

I don't have the latest BIOS installed 1.32 at the time.

I bought the PC used on eBay and the seller had put W7 Ultimate 32 bit on it without loading the drivers, etc. and just shipped.  Nor have I received any key disk or installation products.

I got such a lot of things on it and I didn't care what OS he had.

I wasn't going to let on in any case, because my plans were max out of the memory of 8 GB and install my copy of W7 Pro x 64.

In any case, I just tried but updated the BIOS to get W7 Ultimate to work normally (just to see if I could help all the other people who were stop and start loop question).

Everything I tried was unsuccessful.  And the thing is, some people dc7700/dc7800 ran very well with W7 Ultimate.

It was just a handful of us who could never make it work right.

My suggestion you Cinos, must abandon all hope to get to work and install W7 Pro or home (if you do not need to connect to a domain).

No one I know has reported to solve this issue.

    Hello

New to the forum please bare with me I have a

HP Compaq dc7800 Convertible Minitowers (CZC7413306) and want to update the graphics card without much expense I have short listed two cards. NVIDIA GT 630 and the GT640 Nvidia.

One of these can receive free updates on the PC, IE PSUS?

There 4gig of RAM onboard and at present a 7600gs Nvidia who struggles with FSX and can't not watch run them more than I I'd like to run two monitors.

    Thanks for any answers

    Concerning

    Stewart

Thanks for the graphics card. It seems that they should work, but I still think there may be a problem with the amouint of the power supplied to the card in the slot of the ISDR - x 16.

It would still be useful to measure the power supply to see if an upgrade PSU will fit. An upgrade to a 450W Corsair or OCZ PSU will be not much ofexpense. When you consider what you have in the PC at this time is minimal, that would make it useful. In any case, these are my thoughts on this subject.   , Of course, it's your choice.

  • With my HP Compaq DC7800 Convertible Minitowers audio driver problem

    Hello

I'm having a problem of sound driver with my desktop HP Compaq DC7800 Convertible Minitowers.

A few days ago I formatted my desktop PC and installed a new Windows XP Service pack 3. Like I need driver for my device, I managed to find all the drivers except for my audio device. As I saw that I have integrated audio on my motherboard, but the drivers I found on a HP support site (download the drivers), none of them work and there are too many (I also need to download drivers for other devices form intel site but that's another question). So, now I was hoping someone can help me find (finally) and install peripheral audio, so I can finish with the installation process. I will be grateful for this veeeeeerrrry thanks in advance.

It does not matter. I found the driver that I needed: ADI high definition (HD Audio Driver - Sound Max)

    thx anyway

  • Windows 7 64 bit and AHCI support on DC7800 convertible minitour?

    Hi guys.

I have an old HP DC7800 (it actually says DC7900 on the box, but several said firmwares is a dc7800 for some odd reason...) minitour convertible that I use at home, running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit.

I put an SSD in this PC and when I went into the BIOS to find AHCI settings it shows only RAID and IDE.

Now, I read about it in this forum and this guy is that he works with Intel Matrix Storage Manager (RAID drivers), but it was Windows Vista. However, I am on Windows 7.

What I can find there are simply no drivers for this on Windows 7.

    Anyone have experience with this?

Would be sweet to get this working...

    Thank you in advance.

    You are the very welcome.

I did some basic research on SSDS and disk controller settings.

I installed my first (and only) SSD in a HP Elitebook 6930p who owns the AHCI mode.

I played with the idea of putting one in my dc7800 as you did and of course I would have had my speed on the RAID controller, but I found some interesting links I posted for your reading pleasure.

Since you don't have the choice to choose AHCI, you would probably be OK in IDE mode if you find absolutely change the controller and reinstall the OS a real pain.

Do some research on Google more.  There is a pretty good amount of links out there on this.

For me, it would be more important to have a mechanical drive, set the RAID SSD RAID that supports native command queuing too, as far as I know.

An SSD does not turn to find the data as a mechanical drive only.

Here is an interesting link on the NCQ.

  • How to solve '1801 Microcode Update error' in HP Compaq dc7800 Convertible Minitowers

I have Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93 GHz. My operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate x 64.

    Hello:

The E7500 processor is not supported in the dc7800, reason why you get the error of microcode.

Here is the list of supported processors.

    Intel Core 2 Duo processors:

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 (2.20 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 (2.40 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E4700 (2.6 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 (2.33 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache, 1333 MHz FSB)

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 (2.66 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache, 1333 MHz FSB)

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 (3.0 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache, 1333 MHz FSB)

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 (2.53 GHz, 3 MB cache L2, FSB to 1066 MHz)

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 (2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB, L2 cache 3 MB)

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 (2.66 GHz, 6 MB L2 cache, 1333 MHz FSB)

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E8300 (2.83 GHz, 6 MB L2 cache, 1333 MHz FSB)

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (3.00 GHz, 6 MB L2 cache, 1333 MHz FSB)

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 (3.16 GHz, 6 MB L2 cache, 1333 MHz FSB)

Inter Processor Core 2 Duo E8600 (3.33 GHz, 6 MB L2 Cache, bus front end to 1 333 MHz)

As a long shot, you can try to install the latest firmware update. You must use a bootable USB key with back files in order to run the flashbin.exe command after copying the microcode update files in your USB drive bootable.

I can't support dc7800 site. When you can, choose the 2010 v1.14 firmware update download

If you are unfamiliar with how to make a bootable flash drive, this is a good 'how' of the article with the files you need.

    I bought Brosissour e8500
The installation seems to me that the problem
    "microcode update error".

    Hello:

    The E8500 must have worked.

I suggest that you update the BIOS to the latest version.

Since you are using W8.1, you will have to flash the BIOS using the method based on the BACK.

Not only run Windows based BIOS flash.

Before update you the BIOS, remove all that that can be connected to the PC, except the keyboard, mouse and monitor.

There is a flash ROM control system contained in the file menu in the BIOS.

You will need to format a Flash DRIVE with the FAT32 file system.

Download and run the BIOS to support dc7800 page was last updated.

An information page will open and show you the different methods to Flash the BIOS.

What you want to do is to use the instructions F10 Setup of the BIOS flashing .

This article, you click on the blue link BACK Flash directory and this will bring you to the bottom of the page to another blue link that is labeled View of BACK Flash content folder.

Copy the contents (files) in the folder flash BACK to your USB.

Plug the USB key into one of the front USB ports.

Restart the computer and press the F10 key to enter the BIOS.

Select the file Menu.  Then in this menu, there is a Flash ROM of system command.

What to choose, and then select USB and PC should see the files on your USB flash BIOS.

Follow the instructions to update the BIOS.

  • hp compaq dc7800 (DDR2 or DDR3) graphics card

    Hello

I have a minitour computer hp compaq dc7800 convertible. I want to develop it with a graphics card. I see my computer has a PCI Express x 16 slot. Does anyone know if the card must have the DDR2 memory? Or the graphics card could be DDR3?

    Thank you

    Marc

    Hi Marc,

The type of Ram on the graphics card is not dictated by your PC, so you can quite happily fit a card with DDR2, DDR3 or DDR5.  The important factors to consider are the power requirements of the graphics card (that is, if you choose a card that requires a 400W provide you would need a unit of power supply in your PC that can deliver this) and that the card physically fits inside the tower.

    Best wishes

  • I have a hp compaq dc5800, that is used. The pc does not recognize the network interface card.

I reinstalled win xp pro. When finished and restared the nic card was recognized that even if the lights are on when I joined cable ethernet an atheist. I installed the drivers but nothing has worked. Why this is happening and what can do? Thanks in advance.

    You are the very welcome.

You have the small factor form (SFF) or convertible minitower (CMT)?

Electrical supplies and the form factor of the audio and video cards must be flat with low profile brackets if you have a LTS. Power supply power is also less than a SFF in a CMT.

I have a dc7800 CMT. I installed a very nice video fanless AMD Radeon 6570 1 GB card in mine and I love it.

I have installed a sound card, but I guess you could do it.

I don't know how that everything affects the audio settings in the BIOS.

Most video cards are the HDMI audio chips on board, and those disable the integrated audio system. He must therefore go back into the BIOS and enable the onboard audio setting.

It's so everyone guess what happens when you add a new sound card. It neutralizes the again integrated audio system (which would be nice in this case), it neutralizes the HDMI audio (not a problem if you never Hang PC via an HDMI cable)?

In any case, if you want a sound card, you can get a card PCI or PCIe one that there is a PCIe location in the dc7800.

If you have a Mini PC, I would not recommend add both a video card and audio, because that can overload the 240W P/S.

  • Second Hard Drive not recognized / climb (but it IS listed in the Device Manager)

I have a HP Compaq DC7800 convertible mini tower running than Win 7 Pro 64-bit

I installed a second hard drive, and while I can see listed in the Device Manager, it is not mounted.

That is to say, it is not in the computer > field at all.

The second hard drive is a Hitachi HDT721032SLA360 ATA Device

Under the hardware ID, it is said: IDE\DiskHitachi_HDT721032SLA360___ST2OA38E

I thought it was a driver problem. Device Manager indicates that it uses the Microsoft 6.1.7600.16385 driver.

I can't find a Hitachi driver for this player. My understanding was that this drive would NOT need drivers.

I have it in the plug of P5 (I think it is P5, it's at the end of the cable with the primary hard drive) and I have a data cable sata from the sata port on the rear of the disc in the slot sata on the motherboard next to the slot in the place where the main in drive is plugged.

The only sites that list the drivers for this drive are all spam (thanks, google) sites.

What I have to change something in my Bios?

    Thanks in advance.

If the drive is listed in the device but not 'computer' Manager, it must be mounted or a new volume must be created. Please see HP - partitioning and names of hard drives (Windows 7) for more information on using the Windows Disk Management Console.

I got a HP Compaq DC7700 CMT (convertible minitower) and want to install my XFX XT power supply in it series.

    If anyone can check that?

If Yes, what should be done.

The XFX PSU adapts physically, and it seems that the connectors on the motherboard are all compatible.

My only concern right now is if the new XFX PSU moved to the back of the tower.

Your correct, the PSU do not line up.
