  • Please help - installation of CentOS on VMware Fusion (Mac)

    Hi all

Could someone please explain to me how to install CentOS as a virtual machine using VMware Fusion?

I tried to download the 64-bit CentOS operating system and load as an iso, but it gets to a point where the installation tries to access the files on the CD (which I suppose that there are the drivers installed so that it can access it on the Mac?).

I would appreciate your step-by-step guides, you can provide to install CentOS as a virtual machine.

    Thanks in advance

    Sean

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Have you downloaded the ISOs?  It seems that the installer is application disc 2 and find do not.  You must connect the ISO next to continue the installation.

    Good luck!

  • Installation of CentOS on Dell R720 after you disable the RAID

    Hello

I have this R720 Server I want to install CentOS 6.3. It has two 256 GB partitions that have been previously configured as a RAID-1 volume. I removed it because we must not RAID and just need performance when it comes to disk read/write. However, the CentOS installer does not recognize two physical disks. But if I configure the RAID-0 drives the installation program recognizes the discs. I do for the installation program to recognize the physical disks? Thank you.

    Mary Carmen

What RAID controller do you use?  I assumes that you use the H710 PERC, which does NOT support non-RAID, so in order for everything to be presented to the operating system, you will first need to configure it in RAID.  If you don't want to use RAID (even as a RAID 0 drive), then you will need get another controller.  PERC H310 supports non-RAID (the other controller for the R720 options make too, but they won't work on Linux).

  • installation centos v6.3 with ip static

    Hello everyone.

I can't find any discussion about my problem, so I started a new topic.

I try to install Centos 6.3 (Linux..) to help from vmworkstation and install it directly from the internet (FTP / HTTP), I am a guide for RedHat certificate and in the book the aouthor suggest I use static ip of 192.168.122.50 on the 192.168.122.0/24 network.

My problem is that when I install it with automatic ip provided it works fine, but when I try to use the static ip address, it does not work.

    Here is a screenshot.

Please if someone can explain what I need to do...

    Thank you very much.

Ktorza wrote: I changed to 192.168.122.50 start IP address and end IP address to 192.168.122.254

In your OP you say you want to set a static IP address of 192.168.122.50 and this address should not be part of a Pool of IP addresses of the DHCP server, which means that what you should have done is change the IP address of subnet to 192.168.122.0 and then used 192.168.122.50 during the installation of CentOS.  Setup static IP that are within the scope of the DHCP server IP address Pool can become problematic and why you should use addresses outside the range if the configuration of static IP addresses.  In other words what you did by including static IP 192.168.122.50 as part of the Pool of IP addresses of the DHCP server address, you set a condition where it is possible to have that address served dynamically and then cause a conflict.  (This is why you set not a static pool of IP addresses of the DHCP server IP address!)

  • Core upgraded to 4.0 on Centos 7 VMWare Workstation 11 won't build the virtual network device

As shown in the topic, I have manually compiled kernel 4.0 for my installation of CentOS 7. After the installation of the kernel (in rpm mode, followed the instructions here: How to compile a Kernel - The Way CentOS ) installed all 3 rpm, kernel, kernel-headers and kernel-devel and then tried to start my installation of workstation with it leads to having to re - build the components (as usual)

It does not, when it came to the compilation of the network management module. See attached log file that it generated.

    I also tried to uninstall, downloaded VMware-Workstation-Full - 11.1.0 - 2496824.x86_64.bundle and re-installed with the same result.

  • CentOS 7 in VMWare Player 7 bug report

    Hello

Don't know if this is the right place to post so please let me know if I'm in the wrong place, but I've been hit problems with VMWare Player 7 installation of CentOS and Ubuntu:

I had several problems with anything CPU intensive while trying to set up a CentOS 7

Workstation inside VMWare Player 7.  This is a new KDE workstation installation out of the box

with maven installed via yum.  The system has been fully updated via # yum update.

This problem happens every time I try to compile Apache spark 1.1.0 with maven.  However, it seemed

be the case with other applications, including the GNOME desktop.  I tried the MATE as office

Well and still have the problem.

    Environment:

    Host:

    VMWare Player 7.0.0 build-2305329

    Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit 6.1.7601, Service Pack 1

    4 core CPU AMD64

    16 GB OF RAM

    Comments:

    CentOS-7, 0-1406-x86_64 (installation of KDE)

    2 carrots

~ 11 GB of RAM (tried with different values)

    HARD DRIVE 60 GB

A CPU intensive causes this deadlock.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1 install CentOS-7, 0-1406

2 $ sudo yum install maven

3 update of $ sudo yum

4 Download spark 1.1.0 Apache sources of http://spark.apache.org/downloads.html and uncompress

    5 $ cd spark - 1.1.0

    $6 export MAVEN_OPTS = "" - Xmx2g - XX: MaxPermSize = 512 M - XX: ReservedCodeCacheSize = 512 m ""

    $7 mvn - Pyarn - Phadoop - 2.2 - Dhadoop.version = 2.2.0 - DskipTests clean package

Finally, the machine hangs, and a hard reset is required.

I don't know if it's a question of CentOS, a core issue or, more likely, a matter of VMWare Player.

don't know if it's a question of CentOS, a core issue or, more likely, a matter of VMWare Player.

  • CentOS 5.5 machine starts on ESXi 4.0

    Hi all

I made a new virtual machine on our ESXi 4.0 host and I installed CentOS 5.5 32 bit, but it won't start.

Fixing BONES seemed to go very well... I took all the packages that I wanted to install, then start the installation. At this point, I let go and wasn't watching. When I came back, it said installation was complete, and the next step would be to restart the machine. So I clicked the button to restart... the problem is that the machine will not boot at all! All I get is a black screen with a cursor sitting in the upper left corner. He will not answer. In the vSphere client, I click the "Performance" tab and can see that the CPU usage is sitting stable at around 100%. It does not use much of the memory of the host, however.

Any idea what the problem might be?

Here is some information on the virtual machine:

    4 GB memory

CD/DVD drive is set to "Host device" but it is not connected to the power on

    10 GB HARD DRIVE

    1 PROCESSOR

"Guest operating system", I chose "RHEL 5 (32-bit)" and "Other Linux" also tried with no luck

One thing I just thought that-during the installation of CentOS, was one of the first things he asked me if I wanted to check the CD media. I did this. Do you think that there is a good chance that the media are bad?

Thanks in advance for any opinions and help.

In the vSphere client, you can select your host and see the registered version information just above the tabs on the right side.  From there, you can use the site to VMware download Patches to see what patches are available, or what version you use.  You use vCenter or you Update Manager?  If not, you can see "vihostupdate how-to one-time for ESXi 4.x"for the update.

  • G3 book Z 17: Z book G3 default to install linux (Fedora or Ubuntu)

I got a new Z book G3 which came with pre-installed Windows 10. It has two discs. The first

a rotation 1 TB drive and the other is a 256 GB SSD. Nothing is on the SSD.

I want to create a dual-boot machine with Fedora Core 24 as the other OS.

I resized the Windows partition using disk management, and which seems to have been successful, because I can still start Windows 10.

I tried to install 22 CF and various versions of CF 24, as well as Ubuntu 16.04 without success. I use CF iso DVD in a DVD USB drive as the installation media.

The installation of live meda CF disk will well up to a point. The last line printed on the screen of the installer is always:

[OK] Has started the user for UID 1000 Manager

    Then it hangs forever.

There are hundreds of lines before this line, but I can't understand how to capture them. The lines just above the failure are:

[OK] Created user slice slice of liveuser

From the user for UID 1000 Manager

[OK] Started user liveuser Session 1

I've got Secure Boot disabled and Legacy Boot enabled in BIOS.

I also tried the installation option low-resolution graphic "Troubleshooting" of the iso FC DVDs. even result.

I checked that the integrity of the iso installation using SHA256SUM.

I had similar problems (not identical) with Ubuntu.

Can someone has suggestions for how I install linux on this book Z?

    Chad

I now 16.04 Ubuntu and CentOS 7 installed next to Windows 10.

For other linux users who want to install write on computers HP Z book G3, here's a recap of what I've done for activating facilities:

    1. Ubuntu LTS 16.04. Installed using iso DVD via DVD USB drive. To install, enter the BIOS (hit escape repeatedly just after switching on). Choose settings BIOS or similar, set install from file, then find the correct file for the USB key.

Ubuntu installation screen is normal and informs you how to access the Setup command line. Do it and add "nomodeset" to the command line, near "ro" and "calm". Proceed with the installation. Once installed, you need to change the set grub to include 'nomodeset' as a standard kernel option. Edit /etc/grub.d/10_linux and add "nomodeset" just before "ro". There is probably a better way.

2 centOS-7. I ended up creating a USB bootable using dd and a downloaded iso file. See

https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey. During installation, you must enter the BIOS as in (1) above. Once you start from the file, you will be presented with a mutilated wishes installation screen. You can always change the Setup command line by using 'e '. Add "nomodeset" as before, then press F10. Everything should be normal after that, you will see the graphical installation of CentOS screens. Unlike Ubuntu, once you have installed CentOS, you don't need to edit the grub implemented. I have no idea why. (I'm in over my head here).

    3. fedora Core 24. Without success to report, but now that I have Ubuntu and CentOS, alongside W10, I have need to pursue this further at the moment. I suspect the steps in (2) above, or the like, will work. You will need to "fly blind" when editing of the Setup command line and can be change grub after installation.

  • Unable to update firmware DRAC6 past 1.10.13 on R610

    Hello

I have a number of R610s I need to upgrade the DRAC firmware, so you can talk to our new management system. Most of them updated correctly when I left versions gradually 1.10.13 (their version) to 1.97.

About 7 of them, however, will not move past 1.10.13. I have the version of the 1.11 firmware available via TFTP; When I try to install this (via idracadm, starting from the local operating system or a separate box or through the administrative SSH console) I get first "Firmware update is not current" then 'Firmware update operation failed' when subsequent attempts until I have make a racreset. I tried clearing space by removing the logs of the system, I have done a factory reset, drained flea power and the problem persists.

I also tried to update from the Dell Repository Manager bootable media as shown here http://lonesysadmin.net/2011/03/07/the-easiest-way-to-update-a-dell-servers-firmware/. No joy.

Finally I tried the update to a new installation of CentOS; the upgrade appears to start but is never-ending; fwupdate s presents 'The Firmware update Operation failed'.

Is there any other approach, or y at - it logs I can check what goes wrong?

    Thank you!

    ClintonF_Dell,

The first things that I would look into what version of BIOS and the lifecycle of the R610 controller run. If you do not update those in tandem with iDrac you may encounter problems of this kind. If they're behind then I test this on one of them and get the BIOS and the LC caught up and see if after a racadm racreset and NVram clear as the iDrac allows you to update.

Also, have you tried to update the iDrac tab to update the iDrac with the firming.d6 file? To do this, for example, you download the iDRAC6_1.97_A00_FW_IMG.exe file and run it on a Windows system to extract the files, then find the file firming.d6 and save. Use it in the iDrac GUI tab updated. Now, I know that it is the current file name, so to keep walking until you need the 1.11 and so on.

These are the current versions, if you are far behind in these institutions, I recommend walk them up as well.

  • Screen setup ESXi 6 pips

    Hello

I can't install vmware vSphere on my Supermicro X10SLL-F, because the video output is glitched (see attachment). Even without a monitor and just using the IPMI remote console, the output is always glitched. I tried to install via a USB flash drive and I tried unetbootin, rufus, but also create a USB Flash drive to store the Script of ESXi Installation or upgrade Script

My boot.cfg is attached, I even tried to automate installation via KS.cfg, but this doesn't seem to work and since I don't see the error/screen output, it's a little difficult to get the error. Boot.cfg options for auto install: kernelopt = ks = usb: / ks.cfg with KS.cfg in the usb root directory, see attachment.

Set gfxpayload = keep isn't a solution either.

I found a few posts on this problem here in the forum, but no solution. Does anyone have an idea or a solution for this?

    Bravo and thank you!

    Paul

PS: installation of CentOS or Debian is not reproduce the problem.

    OK, time to solution:

    • It is a MUST to do a normal boot 'bios' disk USB, boot UEFI No.!
    • Use YUMI: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/
      • Create a USB with Grub drive! (Option "try ISO no side (GRUB)")
      • Load and install the ISO VMware file
    • Boot from the USB drive and select the ISO file
    • Install

  • Replacement for VMware Server 1.0

    Hello community

I'm running a few hosts CentOS with VMware Server 1.x 5.x various hosts as CentOS virtual computers, the legacy Netware servers and some Windows machines.

Now I need to put in place the new hosts with CentOS 6.x to enjoy some of the things fantasy that comes with this new major release (especially things like the handling of SSD and BTRFS).

However, VMware Server 1.x only installs on CentOS 6 and so this combination is not an option.

VMware Server 2.x (even if it would not work what I do not know) is a no-go, I don't like the web directors at all and would really like to have an administration like the VMware Console tool, which used to be the administrative tool for server 1.x.

I would not mind spending the money for it, so there is no need to be free (business environment), but thousands of dollars of course aren't in the budget for it.

However, many VMware products seem to be a mess for me (sorry...) and even worse, they all seem to be a bit inflated.

What I choose today, VMware Server 1.x was exactly the thing I need, without all the bells and whistles, subsequent proceeds provided with, but if possible with a platform independent (Linux + Win) administration tool?

Is there any "weight light server grade product of virtualization" VMware plus, which brings the necessary basic features and runs on modern linux guests?

I have already evaluated VirtualBox and KVM and got both work, however, I have used VMware now for more than a decade at least I want to ask the community for recommendations before moving on to a completely different virtualization platform.

Thank you to for your advice!

Then take another look at work station - there now the abilitry to function as server hosting VMs - or you can go to the bare metal hypervisor and run ESXi that will install directly on hardware, eliminating the need for CentOS - there is a free version available that as well.

  • Netem VM between two virtual machines? Is this possible?

    Hello

I would use netem on a linux VM between two other virtual machines to simulate latency. Between Netem needs a machine with two network cards that he can fill. I've set up a VM on vSwitch0, a virtual machine on vSwitch1 and then an another VM with two network cards, one on each vSwitch. I thought that I create this box for use Netem and imitate and then between the two.

Has anyone ever done something like this? I ran into a ton of problems and want to know if people have tried.

I got it working by following these steps:

    1. create the computer virtual one with a NETWORK card on vSwitch0

    2. create a VM with a NETWORK card on vSwitch1 b

    3. create a VM n with a NETWORK card on vSwitch0 and vSwitch1

    4. set the port groups to vSwitch0 and 1 for the "Promiscuous" mode accept (from the default of rejection)

    5. set the n, a centOS VM VM for a networking interface using two network cards

Note: maps network of VM's and b VM were located in the same subnet.

    Once step 5 start working and traffic exchange VM has and through VM n. b I have experienced a strong delay 5ms ping where there was a<1 ms="" delay="" on="" ping="" when="" vm="" a="" and="" b="" were="" on="" the="" same="" vswitch.="" i="" came="" in="" the="" next="" day="" and="" the="" delay="" was="" gone.="" no="" idea="">

All the tricks to bypass and netem being by default in the installation of CentOS 6.4, I was able to establish conditions as the loss of delay and the package on the transport between the VM and VM n and b degraded as desired.

The reason that I wanted this to be complicated as it is I can take a virtual machine of vSwitch 0 and pop in vSwitch1 and all of a sudden traffic to and since it undergoes degradation due to the conditions imposed by the bridge n Netem the VM configuration.

  • A few questions when planning for connection cars. (NTP output and connection)

    Good morning
I have three questions when planning 11.2.0.3 RAC installation on Centos 6.

    1. When you configure NTP, the document indicates * "If you use the NTP, you configure it using the x - flag." Can I know how to configure the NTP with flag - x?

    2. I intend to use another server (named MY_NTP) that is not in the cluster as the NTP server. All nodes in the cluster will run ntpdate MY_NTP to get time information. This command will be put in a crontab. But I wonder how the YES program know this. I mean when we run YES, it will check the settings of NTP, right? He checks my crontab? Because if they don't, it will not know that I am using the NTP client and may fail the audit.

    3. when I got my Centos server connection, it will display information like below
    [root@node1 ~] # su - oracle

CentOS is not supported by Oracle, but it should work if you follow the installation guide for Red Hat Linux or Oracle's Linux.

Linux NTP configuration is documented in http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e22489/prelinux.htm#BABECGII.

I didn't ' think you should remove the last exit of the connection. You should use instead another ssh command to check the ssh configuration:

    ssh node2 date
