Default photo library

I moved my library of Photos on an external hard drive, but PhotoStream is no longer one of my albums.  I think this is because the default Photos library is always defined as the Photoslibrary hard disk in-house.  If I name one of the libraries on the external hard drive, as the library by default, allowing PhotoStream are available when Photos using this library?  I am reluctant to experiment with it and risk losing access to our photos.  I used PowerPhotos to create libraries.  Thank you.

All iCLoud services work only with the a library designated as the library system in the preferences

  • Photos library forgotten intermittently in iMovie

    Hey everybody!

I'm helping a friend with his computer which is having a weird problem where iMovie forget intermittently the computer's default photo library.

I searched the forums and feel a little Google-Fu to no results. Hoping that someone here has heard of him and can help.

    Hardware specifications:

    iMac 21.5 "(retina 4K, end of 2015)"

    3.3 Intel Core i7, 16GB, Iris Pro graphic 6200

    10.11.5 OSX

    Photos Version: 1.5 (370.42.0)

    Version of iMovie: 10.1.2

    Symptom of failure:

When you open iMovie library of Photos may not appear in the sidebar called "libraries."

Friend is then unable to take pictures from Photos to slide directly into the timeline without doing it manually by moving pictures on the desktop, then in iMovie.

    Temporary difficulties (though not ideal):

Opening and closing iMovie has 50-75% likely to appear at the library.

    Notes:

    1. a friend has a large library of Photos (600 GB and more) of his travels and compiles pictures and videos to family and friends.

    2. due to the huge amount of space needed for ALL of its data/backups (not only the pictures), she was sold and configure a Lacie 5big network RAID (20 to total)

    3. the iMac internal 2 TB HDD software account and installed OSX. Its Home folder is located in the 5Big and OSX heading towards it.

    4. the question is extremely intermittent, opening and closing of the application while the photo library is present can remove next time, iMovie is open.

    Things I've tried:

-Creation of a new library of Photos (empty) adding like 20 pictures and then defines it as the default library in preferences. (Question persists)

-Updated all updates of software available.

-Re-install OSX 10.11 and then upgrade to 10.11.5 again.

-Checked to make sure that 5Big is not put the discs "to sleep" after a while, removing the connection to OSX. (It is not)

-Check all the cables and connections to make sure that the drive is connected properly and safely.

-Machine closed down, started 5Big first, he gave 10-15 seconds to establish and then lit iMac to see if OSX has had enough time to 'find' the iMovie library.

-Make sure that the Photos (the application) is closed before opening iMovie, tried also with Photos open before you open iMovie. (Issue still present in both scenarios)

I guess something is in conflict with OSX and RAID 5Big... but I have no idea where to start looking.

Help, please! Please and thank you!

    Aaron.

  • Cannot transfer iPhoto Photo Library - unless the external is plugged.

    Hello

Before I got my new Macbook Pro today, I copied my iPhoto library on my external hard drive. This library will be important and open the pictures, the new application, ONLY if the external hard drive is plugged - I even tried to copy the old library, iPhoto to my office and open Photos manually, but it will not be read. Is what it means I need to copy my iPhoto images one by one in the new application Photos?

    Thank you!

I should add here that, once the hard drive is disconnected and I try to open the old library still in Photos, he search the hard drive and is unable to find it. It seems that I can't fix my iPhoto library original as my default photo library.

  • Apple TV, you see only not my new photo library

I have Apple TV and 2 Macs that use home sharing to display pictures of selected iPhoto library.  It has worked well for years, through several generations of ATV (including this, the latest).  Today, on a Mac, I've converted a library of photos from iPhoto in Photos.  In fact, I have 2 libraries - one of which is a 'starter' library created last week, put up with all my keywords and the structures of startup (to clone for new photo projects) records - he has 11 photos.  The second Photo library (which is the most recently accessed Library / edition) has 900 + photos, created today.

I am running the latest version of iTunes, under El captain.

When I get home sharing in iTunes...

.. .to select photos to share, the default value presented is for 'Photos' (Yes, I don't know iPhoto its more long!) - BUT it's the 11-photo 'starter' library, like this:

When I use the drop down menu to choose a different folder (the library populated), I choose the file, but it shows 0 photos, like this:

What should I do to get the iTunes to recognize my populated library?  (I quit and restarted iTunes - I also stop and restart the Mac.)

I'm tempted to remove the Starter 11-photo Library, so that there is only a single library on the Mac... but I hate the idea that is the solution for iTunes and the Photos app talk to each other.  With iPhotos, I had literally dozens of libraries and constantly under tension between them.  I wouldn't think that the ability is lost with Photos.

    Thank you!

Ah, ha - think I found the answer.  In the preferences of Photos, there is a "button to specify a particular library as the library of the"System. "  My Library recently populated did not have this set:

I set its State to "on":

and iTunes now sees this library instead of the ' starter when sharing with "Photos".

The option "Chose the folder" doesn't seem to do anything useful, so it seems that it is the new way to do this when the Photos app is used for photos of the ATV.

  • How to get photos from a photo library second in iMovie.

I have two libraries of photos. One of them is the default library and another, obviously, is not. How can I get pictures of the second, the default, the library in iMovie?

I use OS x El Capitan and iMovie 10.1.2

You can export images, you must use on the desktop, and then drag and drop them in the pane of iMovie editing or event.  This will create a copy in your iMovie library.

  • New photo library

I moved my photo library on an external drive to free up space on my macbook. I want to 'park' of this library and are not going to use regularly. Trying to set up a new library on my mac, Photos wants to demolish all of my photos from iCloud, kind of fighter, he opposed

I want to create a new library on the mac that attracts only to the bottom of the photos from my iPhone, etc. which have been taken from now, not the most historic. Is it possible and if yes, can someone advise how can I configure things?

If you hold down the Option key while launching photos, then you will see select Library dialog. On the bottom, you will see a button create new . It allows to do a new library. In the preferences of Photos, you will need to change the default library to the new.

  • What does the option "copy photos to the photo library?

I explore this now app Photos (worst name ever) and I wanted to import photos in Photos. The problem for me is I want to let the pictures where they already are. I'm not interested in a database or the system that hides the pictures of me in the finder. I want to be able to right click and reveal in finder - "export image" is a terrible choice.

So, I see an option to check in the preferences. It reads: "Copy pictures to the photo library" but has no explanation as to what that means or does. This is what it will move my photos if I select copy? (their disappearance from the original file)? It will resume photos - clutter up my drive? If we make a copy and I update the original in Photoshop - it will reflect this change in the Photo?

So many questions and I can not find an answer to any place. Even the help files had nothing that I could find.

Default is 'Copy photos to the photo library' enabled.  Then the pictures will do exactly that. Any Photo that you import pictures is copied in the photo library and managed by pictures. You can remove the original outside the library after you have verified that it imported properly.

If you disable the option, pictures reference the file in its original location and does not copy it.

This configuration is not recommended because you have to manage photos on your own. If you delete photos of Photos, you must delete the original outside yourself. You cannot use iCloud photo library with referenced files and if dot nee restore you from a backup library will need films to another drive, you will need to manually reconnect all originals. It is subject to errors.

If we make a copy and I update the original in Photoshop - it will reflect this change in the Photo?

It will not work. Two Photos will ignore changes to Photosho or lose the connection to the original file. To use an external editor in pictures use extensions to change Photos photo editing panel. Let the pics to send the original to the external editor.

  • Transfer a portion of the photo library

    Hi all

I am currently using a MacBook Pro 2013 Yosemite 10.10.5 running. I have 750 GB of internal storage, but it is almost full. Most of this storage is filled with photos and videos. I bought a 2 TB external hard drive and partitioned it, one for time machine and the other for storage. I have over 300 GB of photos and videos, some of them dating back to 2008. I don't want to send all those pictures in stock, everything up to the last year. (time machine has everything saved anyway) I tried to do this manually, section by section, but it became a right mess. The files were being duplicated in the external hard drive, sometimes up to 8 copies of the same photo. The order went all out of sync even when put in order of date, and some pictures have the same name. I found the instructions on how to move a whole library on an external hard drive, but then I got confused about this becomes your default library or something? I don't want to change the default location of the library, I want to just put a little library in stock, without making a mess. Anyway, I guess my question is the following:

    1. How can I move that part of my library of Photos on a hard drive external, at once, without losing the order and without the hard drive of my library by default?

Also, I liked iPhoto. I didn't know it at the time, but now we have pictures, I love iPhoto. When he updated a year ago I just left, because I assumed that it had to be this way. Now that I try to spend it in stock I realize even once how the poor Photos, if...

2 is it too late to return to iPhoto? If I do how I move all the newly imported (last year) photos in iPhoto as well?

I wouldn't say my technical abilities on the Mac is that great at all so any help is appreciated.

    See you soon

    1. How can I move that part of my library of Photos on a hard drive external, at once, without losing the order and without the hard drive of my library by default?

Drag your photo library on your external drive, and you'll have a copy. You can switch between libraries by pressing the options then you launch Photos. Allows you to select the library you want to open.

. I don't want to send all those pictures in stock, everything up to the last year. (time machine has everything saved anyway)

You know that Time Machine will remove the older items in the backup, if she needs to release new backups storage?  If you the elements removed from your computer, they do not stay on Time Machine forever. What is your Time Machine partition? It must have at least 2.5 times the size of the disk of your Mac system. This will ensure that backups do not get deleted so quickly.

And Time Machine backup impossible a second partition on the same drive. It would be better to move the copy of your photo library to a separate data disc, not a partition of data on your Time Machine disk, so time Machine can include in the backup, and you'll always have a backup of the photos that you moved out of the internal drive.

2 is it too late to return to iPhoto? If I do how I move all the newly imported (last year) photos in iPhoto as well?

you will quickly become frustrated with iPhoto too. Apple is no longer supports. You can order is no longer iPhoto print products. So, it can break completely.

To resume work with iPhoto, you must upgrade to iPhoto 9.6.1.

You can only update iPhoto iPhoto 9.6.1, shows among your purchases on the App Store. Check the tab fourth appstore - purchases.  If you see iPhoto you can update by removing iPhoto in the Applications folder (do not empty the trash), then restart the App Store and click on "install". To install iPhoto 9.6.1.

    Tip to see Barney:

Can't update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store.

To move your latest photos to iPhoto export them photos and import it into iPhoto.

  • Where is it save to save a photo library? Requirements for the external hard drive

Apple support documents have been somewhat vague about the requirements for a player welcome photo library.

It is not yet clear if Photos can run a file system, is not HFS +: this restriction is mentioned only for the system of libraries of Photos, which syncs with iCloud (https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht211de786)

By default, your system library is stored in the folder of images on your Mac, but you can move it to another location on your Mac, or store it on an external storage device. However, to use iCloud services, the external storage device must be formatted using the format Mac OS extended (journaled), also known as HFS +.

But it is experiences during the migration of libraries, that Photos cannot migrate libraries iPhoto or Aperture libraries to a photo library, if is not filesystem HFS +.  It will try to create the library migrated on the system drive instead (probably because he can't create links hard disk) and generally not running out of storage.

Apple less did today, confirmed that he is not sure store of the photo library in a synchronized cloud storage, see: update to iPhoto to Photos for OS X - Apple support

If you store your photo library in a place that is part of a Cloud Computing service (for example, Dropbox, box or Google Drive), your library might be damaged by the synchronization process. So, you might lose photos.

To see your photos on all your devices, you can use iCloud photo library. To back up your library, you can use Time Machine.

I still have not found supporting documentation, that clearly indicates if a library of Photos can be stored on a NAS. If it cannot be used as a library of Photos of system.  For the opening of libraries or libraries of iPhoto, the recommendation of Apple was clear: use locally mounted volumes extended, Mac OS X for your Aperture library

Does anyone found a similar document for the Photos?

Is it possible to store original files referenced on iCloud by car or in a box?

I'm confused because of the dates that are associated to these. When iPHOTO became PHOTOS is iPHOTO Library.migratedphotolibrary who became now the PHOTO (ORIGINAL) LIBRARY. PHOTO LIBRARY

  • move el capitan photo library app on external hard drive

    Question:

How to move to El Capitan new library of the 'Photo' app on an external drive?

The picture of El Capitan App behaves like a virus - it takes my computer whenever I plug a phone, etc.

There seems to be no preference to choose which application opens to plug in a device, and iPhoto failed to do not open.

(And selecting the cloud for storage is similar to trust someone else to keep forever, hundreds of concerts my confidential and important data.) "If they were to lose my credit card information, that would be correct.)

I will not "auto-save" my photos on my drive internally, and will not allow 'Photo' me to select one different folder other than the one they chose for me on my internal drive. Whenever I select a folder from the external hard drive in the preferences, it is default to the original destination in the internal drive.

Most discussions on the application of 'Photo' of Apple are extremely difficult to find because the results of a search of the generic name of there new beacon 'Photo' app display the results of all things by the word 'photo' in them. Go to Apple support with the name of their application as the search keyword: "photo".

It seems that the fellows who designed Windows 8 have been able to find a job at Apple. I think it may be easier to move a photo library of Windows 8 at the library 'Photos' El Capitan that moving the iPhotos library.

I don't remember thinking iPhoto needed to be redesigned. Simply not take 20 minutes for the Interior to appear cryptic images. And maybe be able to import large files of k 4, without crashing on every attempt.

PLEASE SEE THE APP "FUNBOX" BEFORE THE NEXT UPDATE OF 'PHOTO '!

in this soft - 128 GB iPhone photos appear in less than a minute, and you have the ability to save large images videos 4 k, voice memos, etc. simply by dragging them to the location desired. The good old MAC intuitive way that attracted us to Apple in the first place.

Perhaps Apple simply tries to leave the free App company.

    RULE NO. 1:

Applications need to be improved - not made obsolete!

One Solution: rename the new 'photo' application in iPhoto. (I'm a genius!)

How to move to El Capitan new library of the 'Photo' app on an external drive?

Select it in the image folder and drag the EHD.  Once there open to confirm a successful move and then remove the pictures folder.

There seems to be no preference to choose which application opens to plug in a device, and iPhoto failed to do not open.

With the trendy iPhone go to Photos and uncheck this box:

Do this for each device you have.  If you have memory cards and reformat them, you will have to repeat every time.

To kill the opening of Photos for all devices use the method posted by JadedEye:

OK, it worked for me on El Cap

    Open a terminal window

defaults write currentHost - com.apple.ImageCapture disableHotPlug - bool YES

(followed by the return key or enter - ed)

    The exit of the terminal.

Photos will run if you run, but it will not autolaunch on each connection to a camera or the card or reformatted the card.

If you want to return Photos auto-launch almost everything, use the same command change YES no

This correction has set my workflow back to normal without Photos lance all the time.

I will not "auto-save" my photos on my drive internally, and will not allow 'Photo' me to select one different folder other than the one they chose for me on my internal drive. Whenever I select a folder from the external hard drive in the preferences, it is defaulted to the original destination in the internal drive

I don't know what you mean by that last statement.  Are you referring to export photos from your library to the EHD? Or are you referring to place your library on the EHD and its use here? The export window to select any location you want to save to.  By default, it opens to the desktop on the startup disk. But you can select any volume which is mounted by clicking it in the sidebar of the export window:

After the installation of El Capitan in Yosemite, my MacBookPro doesn´t recover the existing photo of i-photo library. It only shows what created under El Capitan. They went or is it just the link who is gone? Does anyone know?

Look in your pictures folder, in your user name folder, this is the default location for the library of Photos and the iPhoto library.

Now the option/ALT key when starting iPhoto or Photos will bring up a dialog for you to choose library.

You can also put libraries in iPhoto. Go to the folder / switch to library.

  • Problems with file photo library and music/photo.

    Original title: Photo Gallery

I have two questions. I have somehow copied mistakeningly my picture folder in my music folder. So I had two large image (18 GB) folders. I thought they were two separate files, so I deleted the one in the photo folder and it delete the two files. I had the backup on an external hard drive.

So when I tried to open the photos in the Gallery of photos from the disk external hard he told me that I needed to update my photo gallery and I do not know how and why he wants me to do.

I always have a file in my folder of music called images and when I try to open my photos (the little I have left) it goes into the music file to pick them up.

I can seem confusing. Hope you can help me.

    Thank you

    Theresa

    Hello

    1. What is the exact message that you receive when you try to open the photos in the photo gallery?

2 are you referring to the default music library in the library folder?

To update the Photo Gallery, follow these steps:

    a. launch of Windows Photo Gallery.

    b. in the few minutes library loading completely to the top, you will see a small notification pop window - up in the lower right corner of the window.

    c. If you see such a notice indicating that the updates are available for photo gallery, click on the link to download the updates.

    d. wait to open after clicking on the download of Internet Explorer link. The page that opens will include a download button and specific instructions on how to install the software.

    e. click Download and open the file when the download is complete.

    f. follow the on-screen guests and guidance from Microsoft site to install the updates.
