  just reinstalled windows xp.  Sound does not work.  Under the properties of sounds and Audio, peripheral devices by default "sound" is grayed out.  Microsoft Fix it, but the best I get is "do not set as default audio device.  The lack of sound recording does show a device.  Ideas?  BTW, I sometimes get static noises out of the speakers.

  When I turn on my STR-DH820 the 'FIELD of SOUNDS' is always on "SPORTS." What I would like is to set a value by default "SOUND FIELD", i.e. "HD - D. Cabrit', which would be the default 'FIELD of SOUNDS' when I turn on the system. I tried everything I can think and have failed by setting a default energy on "HIS FIELD", is it possible?
  I had a Sony receiver that I have been able to set a default value 'Field of sounds' for each entry. For example when I went by 'FM' the 'FIELD of SOUNDS' can always be 'JAZZ' or 'CONCERT LIVE' according to I set the default value for this entry. "DVD" can be set to always be "CINÉMA ST. EX B" and "VIDEO 1" could still default to "A.F.D.". This is not optimal, but always failed to 'SPORTS' when the system is turned on is ridiculous.

  I solved this problem without the help of Sony.
  If you have a Sony TV or a tv where you can set the optimal staging, check and see if you do not have 'Sports' located on the TV. If you do and you prefer another flaw, try to change the scene on the TV and watch your 380 change as well.
  has worked for me. Setting the movie on TV changed D.C.S. HD 380 for the default value.

  I have Windows XP home on my laptop.  By default, as a new email, etc sounds do not play.  I ran "How to solve audio problems in windows XP" and he says that he can not detect a problem.   The speakers and all other sounds work fine.   Method 1:

  I suggest to run the SFC (System File Checker) analysis on the system and check if the problem is resolved.

  Method 2:

  I suggest to uninstall and reinstall Outlook express on the system and check if the problem is resolved. Follow the steps mentioned below.

  a. Click Start, and then click Run.

  b. type appwiz.cpl in the run box, and then press ENTER. This will open Add and remove programs on the system.

  c. click Add and remove Windows components and look for Outlook Express and then clear the check box that is next to it and click Ok. This allows to uninstall Outlook express on the system.

  d. again to open the Windows component box, place a check mark next to Outlook express and then click ok.

  Note: This will reset the settings for outlook express.

  Check whether the problem is resolved.

  I noticed that my windows default sounds are missing. They are nowhere in my file system. I went to the personalization and clicked on sounds. It shows all the sounds (like, asterisk, critical battery, start Windows, connection, newspaper) with no sounds. I can't test them because there is no files for sounds. Is there a way I can get back them. Can I download them?

  Looks like there is some system files corrupted on the computer, I would say that scan you SFC who will search the system files corrupted on the computer and replace them.

  Scan SFC enforcement procedure:

  1. click on the Start button
  2. on the Start Menu, click all programs Accessories followed
  3. in the Accessories menu , right click on the command line option
  4. in the menu that appears, click on the option "Run as Administrator"
  5 If you have the enabled User Account Control (UAC) you will be asked to consent to the opening of the command line. You simply press the button continue if you are the administrator or insert password etc.
  6. in the command prompt window, type: sfc/scannow then press enter
  7. a message is displayed to indicate that "the analysis of the system will start.
  8. be patient because the analysis may take some time
  9. If all the files need replace SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Vista DVD for this process to continue
  10. If all goes although you should, after the analysis, see the following message "Windows resource protection not found any breach of integrity.
  11 after the scan finished, close the command prompt window reboot the computer and check.

  The analysis may take some time, so be patient. Windows allows to fix corrupt or missing files it finds. If the information of the installation CD is required to fix the problem, you may be asked to insert your Windows Vista installation CD.

• Cannot, by default the sound setting

  I can't put my default sound. I recently got my computer up to date and a few hours later, my sound doesn't work anymore, so my videos, too.   I have the same problem.  In fact, I have also complaint that we cannot chose the default sound or tone of the alert.

  I am surprised and very disappointed.  Supposedly Apple prides itself on being friendly and easily adapted to the preferences of the user.  So, why they do not have something so simple and obvious that us leash chose our default sound alert?  Especially when we can, chose the default tone for so many other things.

  Does anyone know a way to communicate directly with someone at Apple to get an answer?

  My laptop has recently installed 20 or if Microsoft updates when I last reboot. Now, there not its coming out of the speakers or headphones even if the system indicates that it should work fine. It seems that some people have this problem as well and I see a possible solution for Windows 8. I, however, am running Windows 7.

  I experienced the same problem on a HP Envy 17, 2670 QM 3D, running Windows 7.  After 5 hours looking for a solution, call the HP and Microsoft Customer Service (unnecessary - both are pointing the finger at eachother or user) I came across a "default sound" that has changed.

  Check in the control panel-Sound-manage Audio devices.  My changed default "speakers, HP Wireless... ».  I have reset the value defaults to "speakers and headphones IDT high definition.  The sound comes back and everything is back to normal.

  These sis not available in BIOS setting!

  You can try to disable the sound card in Device Manager!

  Mark the sound card in Device Manager and disable it!
