delete yahoo search

How can I remove yahoo search when I opened a new tab in safari?

What you set as your search engine in Safari/Preferences/search?

Try to go to Safari/Preferences/Extensions and disable all extensions. Quit Safari, reopen and see if the site will now load with your desired search engine. If so, enable the extensions one or two at a time until you find which extension is causing the problem.

  • Why I can't delete Yahoo search suggestions in the navigation bar? How can I remove the DNS of Yahoo error page?

Maybe that's two questions. Both pooped upward with a recent update. I do not have yahoo extensions or add-ons installed.

    (a) I type a URL in the navigation bar (NOT the search box), and all of these 'useful' pop-up suggestions. Do stop.

    Hi Ron,

Have you looked at article in the Knowledge Base using the search in Firefox bar? There are lots of good information in there. You happen to have an installed Yahoo! toolbar? You must disable or delete as well if you do. Try to start Firefox in Mode safe mode by holding down the SHIFT key while starting Firefox. If you have any problems using the safe, it's a matter of add-on or extension.

    Hope this helps!

  • Firefox continues to change back to Yahoo Search by default even if I deleted all search other than Google.

    New installation of Windows 7 x 64.

First program I have installed is Firefox... and I did have the time in the last three weeks to install anything else.

Whenever Firefox has updated these last few weeks, the default search engine continues to get back to Yahoo. If this is part of the agreement with Yahoo Search, then I'm history; I use Chrome instead of Firefox, although I have sorely missed it. I don't like having to go make adjustments each time I install an update of Firefox.

  • delete the search yahoo on chrome engine

Recently (although this seems to be an older problem for Windows users), my default search engine has been hijacked to display Yahoo whenever I click on 'new tab' on Chrome. It's happened on Safari, but solved the problem by changing the default settings.

The solutions I could find are all specific to Windows. Does anyone have a Mac solution?

Running Chrome v47... (to date) on a 2-year-old iMac, v10.10.5, using Avast security. Interestingly, the Avast icon is gray when the Yahoo Search tab is turned.

I use Mac OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks.  Whenever I run Safari, also launches a Yahoo Search Page.  How can I prevent that to happen?  How to remove this Page of Yahoo Search?

  • New tabs automatically go to Yahoo search in Firefox 39, I want to stop it.

I'm on Windows with Firefox version 39 10. Everytime I open a new tab, a Yahoo Search page comes up. I deleted all the stuff of Yahoo out of my laptop. I have no Yahoo toolbar, etc. left. I also removed Yahoo as a search engine option. DuckDuckGo is only available for research. I read on some previous posts on how to remove this, but they are all more than 203 years and do not seem to follow the options of version 39. How can I remove this very annoying feature. I don't want to do that, but if I can't solve this problem, I'll start using the edge browser.
On a side note, there is no extensions.netassistant, etc. on this machine. I have crossed in the config and can't find it, and I see nothing in this sense in the programs available for withdrawal. Any help and or insight would be most appreciated.
    Thank you

Here's how you can change your new tab page:

    (1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press enter/return. Click on the button promising to be careful.

    (2) in the search above the list box, type or paste newtab and make a pause so that the list is filtered

    (3) double-click the preference browser.newtab.url and enter your favorite page:

    • (Default) page thumbnails = > subject: newtab
    • Blank tab = > subject: empty
    • Built-in Firefox homepage = > topic: welcome
    • Any other page = > full URL of the page

Press Ctrl + t to open a new tab and check that it worked. Fixed?

If the problems persist, some potential diagnoses and remedies:

If Firefox will not let you change this setting: you can have what is called SearchProtect on your system. This must be removed the control panel. If the status is 'locked' we'll need to help you investigate a configuration file "automatic".

Firefox if allows you to save your changes, but he doesn't know: one of your extensions may be the substitution of her. You can consult, disable and/or remove extensions on page modules. Either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a (Mac: command + shift + a)
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, take a critical look on the list on the right and turn off (or remove) something unknown.

If the modification works during your session, but during the next startup is return to the unwanted page: you could have a user.js file in your personal settings Firefox (your Firefox profile folder). This article describes how to track down and delete the file: How to fix preferences that will not save.

  • 36 Firefox: How can I KEEP my choice of default search engine and Yahoo Search?

Firefox 36 insists now that I use Yahoo search constantly changing my default search engine choice. No matter now many times I put it for Google, I'll get something Yahoo and it's once again. I have Yahoo not checked in the search preferences, hoping that it will not be displayed again. Have restarted Firefox several times. No luck.

My last resort is to REMOVE Yahoo Search my list of search engines to prevent that from happening? I MIGHT want to use some time later, but not every day.

ALSO. If it's important, when I filled this question with 'installed plugins' information on my Mac and Firefox, a witness appeared, so I went to tools > Modules. This screen appeared for a second and instantly has far to another screen: DNS Yahoo Error Handler who had "garmin communicator plugin icon developer" entered in the search query box. My web experience is now taken by Yahoo?

Hmm, it sounds like you have some kind of hijacker in your Firefox. Try this:

Disable all non-essential or unrecognized extensions on page modules. Either:

    • Command + shift + a
    • Tools menu > Modules

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, when in doubt, turn off. (Or if it is obviously the badware, delete).

If Firefox is redirected at this point, see the next section.

Typically, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

    Who help me?

If Firefox is unable to use the addons page, you may need to block extensions using the Mode without failure of Firefox. It is a standard diagnostic tool to disable some advanced features of Firefox and extensions. More info: questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Mode safe mode using either:

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > restart with disabled modules
    • Help menu > restart with disabled modules

(Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still works)

After stops in Firefox, a small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not reset).

I had the same problem - downloaded a free program and the next thing I knew, Yahoo had taken over my Firefox search bar. A solution that works for me (Windows 7, 64-bit) is to do the following:

Go to computer C: drive > Program Files (x 86) > Mozilla Firefox > searchplugins.

In the searchplugins folder, just delete the file "yahoo." Restart Firefox and voila! no more Yahoo!
