When I click on anything it either in the Outlook Express Preview window to stop answer and I have use the ctrl-alt-del combination for her all over again. Anyone out there have the same problem? If so what did you do about it.

Original title: I'm under Oulook Express 6 Windows XP Home SP3 environment.

    Bruce:

The problem has been fixed (I think) but in a most unusual way. Let me explain.

When I was closing down to give the computer a rest yesterday, there was a pop up saying that vprotector expected to close. He really wanted the process of closing until I clicked on finish the process. Curious to know what vprotector is, I searched on the net and got a lot of shots, saying: it is a virus and should be deleted pronto. So I searched the hard drive for the vprot. * and found in the folder program files for AVG!

I then went to AVG to see if it's really a part of AVG and they said yes. If there is a problem with vprot, the toolbar is at fault and needs to be reinstalled. There was one click here to download and run the part of the program to fix the problem. However, I had WebRoot antivirus running that stopped the download of this program as a virus. Because I trust AVG, I've disabled WebRoot and reinstalled the AVG search bar.

I haven't restarted WebRoot and computer flying along as it should, and OE is the link to IE when I click on a link as it has always done.

Seems to me to be the faulty AVG toolbar and a cross with two virus programs upward was at fault. Thank you for your time. Your reply gave me a chance to think differently this problem could arise.

Computers are really complicated machines and we have to be complicated to deal with their problems.

    Thanks again,

    Fred

  • Cannot delete messages on my Outlook Express Inbox

Cannot delete messages on my Outlook Express Inbox

You have corruption of dbx files.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox, if you can and move the messages you want to record off deleted items, and sent items. Locate the OE message store and then close OE.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the Deleted Items.dbx and Sent Items.dbx files and delete them. New files will be created automatically when you open OE.

Compact all folders as described below.

To avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=903095

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

  • lost/deleted a folder in outlook express

I lost/deleted a folder in outlook express and do not know how to get it back, I have a lequipetv.fr email accounrt if it's important. I have windows vista ultimate 2007 service pack 2

Look in the list of folders and make sure that the folder is not listed under the deleted items folder (you can move it if it is).  If you simply delete a file, this is what usually happens.

If it is not listed under the deleted items folder, you can also check the message store (Tools |) Options | Maintenance | Folder for the storage location) to see if the file is still there as a dbx file (hidden).  Also check him Recycle Bin and the message save a file bak with the name of the folder since it is a backup which you can restore (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2).

Finally, if it is really gone and there is no dbx or bak file, then my DBXpress program (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/) has an excerpt from disc feature that will scan the hard drive for messages and if they are still on the disk, it will recover them.

  • After transfer from XP to Win7 I don't see on the Outlook Express folder

I am convert Outlook Express on Windows XP running on Thunderbird running on Windows 7. I installed Thunderbird on my XP computer and took the import of Outlook Express which created the Outlook Express import file that does contain not all emails that I wanted to remember. I installed Thunderbird on my Windows 7 computer and copied the Windows XP profile folder. Because profile names were different, I changed the value in the profile.ini file as well as in the parameter settings in Thunderbird to match this copied value. However, I don't see the folder Outlook Express from Thunderbird. If I navigate under the profile folder structure I see the Outlook Express import records. Any help in accessing these data would be useful. Since I was still all the data on my XP machine I can if necessary reinstall Thunderbird.

Eureka! I tried a finish and it worked. Tools > import. Then I selected mail only > next > Outlook Express and then I sailed to the Outlook Express folder already under the folder Thunderbird Mail and even if he says nothing has been imported the structure of this file and I can see and access emails from Outlook Express.

  • Two days ago, that the Outlook Express icon on my taskbar was traded involuntarily to Outlook. How to recover Outlook Express icon and the e-mail service that accompanies it.

Until October 26, 2012, there were three icons on the toolbar from my computer next to the Start button: 1 Internet Explorer 2. 3. Outlook Express desktop. A time gave that day - Thursday when Winows 8 came out - the Outlook Express icon has been replaced by Outlook without any action on my part. I would like to have the Outlook Express icon returns as well as the electronic mail service that it represents. Thank you. Michael Adey

I don't see what Windows 8 build must do with OE on a XP machie. Have you tried to download?

Right click on the desktop | New | Shortcut. Navigate to "c:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe". Click next | Click Finish.  It will be a new shortcut on the desktop.

  • How can I move the outlook express emails from an XP PC to an another XP PC that has the same e-mail address without overwriting existing messages on this second PC?

How can I move the outlook express emails from an XP PC to an another XP PC that has the same e-mail address without overwriting existing messages on this second PC?

I need to group together all messages from e-mail in a PC and to retire the first PC.

This could be problematic. I guess or OE is over? This would make it easy.

One thing you could do requires some manual work, but much less removal of dupes. For example, the Inbox. In the machine, you are going to scrap, create a new folder and move all messages in your Inbox to it. After you import on the other machine, you can drag the messages you need this folder in the Inbox, and then remove the user created the folder.

And then there are tools to remove the dupes. This one for example.

Today I just connected my gmail account in outlook express and it's connected and started to download all mails on my computer.
As it was not my personal computer, but the office so I want to remove my account from outlook express and delete the history that there are.
I think I deleted my account, but I'm not able to remove the history accordingly, anyone can see my emails just by clicking on outlook express.
    Please help it is urgent.
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards

Follow these steps only if no one else is using this Outlook Express identity.

1: in OE: tools | Accounts | Delete the account.

2: delete all messages in the OE files and empty the deleted items folder.

3: remove all the dbx files in the message of store with OE closed. When it is open, new, and create empty dbx files.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the files of user OE (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

Close OE store folder and open Outlook Express. Select all the dbx files and delete them.

  • IMAP POP and all emails are deleted from the Outlook Express trash folder

Changed POP IMAP email. If I go to my web mail and delete an email, it's in the trash. If I erase it from Outlook Express, it is neither in the OL bin or the trash of web mail... It disappears by the server and the Outlook. Go Daddy tells me that it's something on the side of Outlook, because they can operate through the correct web e-mail... I checked all my settings that I can find and I don't have to remove once to disconnecting or changing files... My purge is not set to happen... Need help... Thank you.

It's as well as IMAP works, everything happens on the server, and what you see is a local representation. On new customers of e-mail (like Windows Live Mail and Outlook 2010) you have the ability to move these messages deleted on the record of deleted items on the server. you do not have this option with Outlook Express. • I can't delete my email in outlook express 6.

This problem started a month ago, but he has only done a few emails. Then I downloaded Norton from comcast and my box of deleted messages had emptied himself and now I can't transfer all items in the deleted box.

    Hi Mike,.

The "Deleted" file is probably corrupted. You will need to get rid of him and to force OE to generate a new.

    Here's how:

    1. from Outlook Express, click Tools > Options > Maintenance and click on the button 'storage folder '.

    2. copy this location. Highlight it and press Ctrl-c.

    3. close Outlook Express.

    4. Click Start, run, paste and click OK.

    5. This will open Windows Explorer in this directory

    6. you will see a. DBX file for each of your Outlook Express files. Delete the file "Deleted Items.dbx"

    7. open Outlook Express and create a new.

    See you soon ~!
