Deleting a folder in Windows Vista Public

Hello

I have a new computer laptop, & found this public record on this matter, did not want so I deleted it... but when I restarted my PC, he was back... is there a way I could permanently delete this folder on my computer.

Do not delete the Public folder.

Records public under Vista, is the same in the folder shared Documents in XP.

If I open windows update he says also your upgrade is ready and the point is that I can not new updates for my computer because of her wanting my upgrade. • Impossible to delete some files on windows vista (read-only cannot be deselected, either)

Right... excuse me for grammar mistakes, I'm Dutch. So there you go.

I am a user of Windows Vista on a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC. I uninstalled World of Warcraft yesterday, and there are two files that I can't remove, no matter what I try. If I want to delete them, I first get this:

    http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/483/eerstdit.PNG

Can I get something I can't print screen for a reason, telling me to give my permission as an administrator of the laptop. What I'm doing. Then, I get this:

    http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/1054/endandit.PNG

Remains and stays and stays (you get the picture), no matter how many times I click on 'Retry '. Of course, when I press cancel, it stops completely, and the files are still there.

== Fun facts (or something like that) =.

    http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/7725/mapwb.PNG

None of the files are marked as "read-only":

    http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/6421/FileProperties.PNG

But the plan is amrked as such... However, the name of the map can be changed. (As seen when I changed it to 'h' instead of 'World of Warcraft' to see if it would somehow effect). The names of the files, however, cannot.

    http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/9439/mapproperties.PNG

When I try to change the map to 'no read-only', simply unchecking the box and try 'apply' or 'ok', I get the same response from the computer I get when I try to delete the files: no way I'll do .

I tried to do since the mode without failure of the laptop with the same exact results. I am the only admin on the computer (in fact, I'm the only account outside the 'guest' one) and Yes, I am enrolled in the two-person-list, who is an administrator (which is strange in itself, because, as I said, the other account should not exist even) have the files.

Of course I can't open the files, because the programs they were running with disappeared with uninstalling WoW.

    http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/5599/Openen.PNG

And this is my story. If nobody here knows, suggestions to other places that they might know are also welcome.

Try to use one of the following free products to remove the file/folder.  Unlocker to: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml or file Assassin http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php (with or without forcing the deletion: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/27/force-delete-cannot-delete-locked-or-in-used-files-or-folders-with-fileassassin/). These programs often work when normal functions remove Vista not work correctly.

If this does not work, it may be a permissions problem.  Try to give permission in their own right and also appropriate.  Here is information on how to do these two things:

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  You can change now switched to read-only (even if the main folder indicates that they are always read-only - you can access yourself as the owner).  You can keep them in read-only to other users, customers and administrators even (although they can support themselves and access, if they wish, and it is really not that you can do to stop it except protect the file with a password by using a 3rd party product.)  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

If this does not work, try to reinstall WOW and then uninstall it with Revo http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/revo-uninstaller/revouninstaller.html instead of using the option to uninstall Vista (Revo does a better job and can cope with these two files during the process).

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  • Accidentally deleted the folder Microsoft Games (VISTA Home Basic)

My mother had problems with solitaire and other games included with his eMachines desktop computer in the Microsoft Games folder.  His machine is running Vista Home Basic.  I tried to fix it by copying it in the folder Microsoft Games laptop (Vista Home Premium) wife.  However after that I copied on games, when I tried to launch the game, I got an error message that the games would not be on this version of Windows Vista.  Where can I get copies of these games that will run on Windows Vista Home Basic?  All software has been preloaded on the machine when she bought (not Windows discks, etc.).  These were included with the machine.

    Thank you

    Steve

Click the button start , click Control Panel, click programs and then click turn on turn Windows features on or off. In the Windows features dialog box, select the Games check box, and then click OK.

If it is already selected it disable the option and press OK and then select it again and press OK.

  • Need to know where in the system folder of Windows Vista, I can access the printer for a shared printer drivers .inf files

I have a printer that is attached to my system down Dell Windows XP, I want to access the floor running Windows Vista from my Sony system.  I managed networked the printer so I can see it in my Sony Windows Vista network folder.  However, when I try to access it, it gives me the following error msg:

The server to the printer 'HP Photosmart 1215 series' doesn't have the installed printer driver.  If you want to find the right driver, click OK

Otherwise, click Cancel and contact your network administrator or the original equipment for the printer driver manuafacturer.

I advanced and clicked on "OK". and the system brings up a box for me to find the correct INF file to load.  I went ahead and tried the DRIVERS/WINDOWS/INF and a few other places, but has failed to find (any) of printer drivers

Can someone tell me where I can get these?

Download the appropriate driver from the printer manufacturer's web site.  If it contains a Setup program, run the program and when it asks you to specify the printer installation, create a local printer whose name is \\xpsystem\printer where 'xpsystem' is the charing system printer and "printer" is the name of the share.  This should create the printer.

You can also expand the downloaded driver and try to add the printer as you did before, direct the installation to the folder containing the driver that you downloaded.

  • Why do I need to close photoshop if I want to rename or delete a folder in windows Explorer.

Why photoshop snaps a record for which he has no use. Restarting a program that take forever to open whenever I want to delete or rename a file or folder is not effective.

There is a perfectly reasonable explanation.  There is the notion of a current Windows directory.  Photoshop clearly has the folder you are trying to manipulate as its current directory, and Windows will not allow the manipulation of a file with an application running as its current directory

If you don't believe me, try an experiment: open a CMD window CD to a temporary folder, and then try to delete this folder.  CMD has any file to open, it has just the folder as the current directory.

And I'm sorry to counter what said JJMack, but I advise you NOT to use "unlocker" application.  That will lead to problems of file system.

  • How can I delete the folder of Windows Explorer owner?

  • Cannot delete a folder in Windows 7, file access denied error

When I try to delete a file in my main account from Windows 7, he asked permission of the administrator. I agree with permission but then he said: I need the permission of the account holder. I am the owner of the account. It keeps giving me the dialog folder access denied with choice of 'Try Again' or 'Cancel '. How to regain possession of this folder.

FYI, I've upgraded this Vista computer. It's my main account in Vista.

I tried to change the permissions in the Properties window, but it doesn't seem to work. I can be wrong step by step instructions you know. Also, if I can make it to the full account at the same time, it would be wonderful.

Some research more and I have the solution. After following the recipe for change owner:

    1. Right-click on the folder-> properties
    2. Security tab
    3. Click on the Advanced button
    4. Owner tab
    5. Edit... button
    6. Select administrators in "a change in ownership at", check "Replace owner of subcontainers and objects '... This may take some time
    7. Open cmd.exe as an administrator
    8. Type "cacls l:\messedUpFolder /T /e /g administrators: f"... .This could take some time
    9. rmdir /S l:\messedUpFolder
    and that's all.
