My version of Windows is up-to-date. I have no problem hardware or exceptional driver. I tried to temporarily disable my antivirus to complete the installation, this does not solve the problem. I tried to install it as a system administrator. I searched the site of Valve/steam software for a solution, none were found (http://store.steampowered.com/). I searched the database of Microsoft for a solution, none were found. I'm having no problem with other games or applications that were loaded on that computer. Hello Platinum,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Vista Community Forums.

This error is primarily caused by a lack of permissions for the user, having the Steam.exe file attributes set to 'Read only', or by another program interferes with the installation of Steam process (if the steam client application has been updated to a version that was not included in your package of Steam, Steam will download a new copy of itself and then delete the old file Steam.exe except when another program interferes).

    1. check your Windows user permissions.
Please ensure that you are logged on as administrator on the computer that you use to install Steam.
    2. check the file attributes
    3. right click on the file Steam.exe, which was created after running the Steam Installer, and then select Properties
4 uncheck the read-only box if it is checked and hit apply before closing the window
    5. try running the Steam.exe file once more
    6. check the settings of your security software

If you are running an antivirus, firewall or any product safety program that may interfere with the removal and replacement of the file Steam.exe (some security software will check information of a file whenever it is changed and block the automatic replacement of files) Please check your settings for the program and ensure that you are prompted to authorize activities that may trigger the security software.

Remove spyware, Adware and virus software and try to run the installation again.

In addition to the steps above, follow these steps:
    1. go in C:/Program Files/Steam /.
    2. right click on Steam.exe and go to properties.
    3. click on the Compatibility tab.
    4. check run as administrator and click OK.
    5. then I deleted StemeTemp (or something like that. the steam icon).
    6. then run Steme.exe again.

    It will be useful.

You would need a separate program that starts to perform the update. The update would kill the other task, update, then re-launch.

  • Can I delete file update.exe in C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig

    Hello

I need more space in the C drive, and I find that under C:\WINDOWS\, the $hf_mig folder contains 170 + subfolders that 515 MB of space and each those subfolder contains update.exe. Remove the update.exe file in these subfolders under C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig?

    Please advise me.
    With many thanks,.
    Ying

Don't NOT delete the folder $ $hf_mig or its content.

When a critical security patch update, update, update rollup, driver or a feature pack installs GDR version files, the hotfix files are also copied to the folder % windir%\$hf_mig$. This supports migration to the appropriate files if you install a hotfix or a service pack that includes earlier versions of these files later.

    FYI -.

Folders that have uninstall as part of the name (for example $NtUninstallKB282010$ who reside in C:\windows (hidden files) are window Hot difficulty updating folders/files) can be removed safely (providing ever, you wish to uninstall the updates). I recommend you leave these records for a period of at least one month to make sure that the update works correctly.

These updates can be removed individually or together. To learn more about the update/s go on:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/xxxxxx
NB: XXXXXX = the actual number, not to mention the "Q" or "Ko."

Once you have removed the uninstall folders/files, then go to control panel, add/remove programs. Select the title of the corresponding Windows fix on the folder/file of the patch you just deleted, and select Delete. You will get a Windows error. This is because you deleted the uninstall folder/files. Simply choose OK and the entry will be removed from the Add/Remove Programs list.

Repeat once again, do NOT delete the folder $ $hf_mig

    Hi Markh21518,

    1. do you get this error when you try to install Windows updates?

    2. when the problem started?

You can try a system restore to a previous point where you have not experienced the problem.

Note: When you perform the system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

  • Delete Browserchoice.exe

Hi, I just got inspired EU malware "Broswerchoice.exe" infect my computer. I want to deleted the exe in the system32 directory, but I'm told I need 'Permission' to some self appointed body called "Trusted installer" or such a name.

No, I don't, it's my computer and I will decide what to delete. So the question is how can we remove this irritating intrusion of my computer?

    I solved this irritation.

You can delete the registry as shown entry elsewhere in this thread, but in Windows 7 (and probably Vista) you can not delete the browserchoice.exe file in the system32 directory, you get an error indicating that you need permission from TrustedInstaller to remove or modify this file.

To resolve this problem, you must go to the file properties (browserchoice.exe select, right click and click Properties). Then select the Security tab. At this point, you will notice that Microsoft have installed a group of users called TrustedInstaller, that has all the permissions to delete the file, users and administrators do not. The next step is to click on the Advanced button and select the owner Change the owner to yourself tab then click on apply. Close this window and return to the tab security the final step is to select your username and then give you full control of the file. You will now be able to delete the offending computer article.
