Deliver a device like an OVA

I read through the VMware ready Test Matrix and see the following topics:

0617

EGGS

The virtual appliance SHOULD NOT be pronounced as a monolithic Archive of OVF (OVA).

Can someone provide some context behind this? We expect users to download going to our portal and install it using their local vSphere client or infrastructure of VC. Some of them could be moved out of local storage, because they may not have access to the Internet from the workstation where they have logged in. For these users, we do not want to be have them download an OVF file and multiple vmdk images. OVA seems just such circumstances. Why is it a bad practice?

The document also suggests that delivery via a tar or tzf file is fine. My understanding is that the OVA is a single tar file. What I'm missing here?

This would be limited to vSphere 4 (vCenter Server 4 + 4 ESX/ESXi) or ESX/ESXi 4 stand-alone hosts (OVF 1.0), or you are planning the deployment on VI 3.5 (OVF 0.9) as well?

Understandable concern.

Do all three of the available formats you want (EGGS,.tar,.tar.gz/.tgz) using a workflow of tar, Yes. The problem one meets, is that not all streams of tar are interoperable as mentioned in TC 0511 by 0514.

The OVF specification (DMTF DSP 0243 / FVO 1.0.0) stipulates that the OVA is a stream of tar using POSIX USTAR format. In its narrower definition (for the USTAR format), which means tar stream has a par of ((8 * 2 ^ 30) object file size limit - 1) bytes (Bytes 8,589,934,591--qui is a little less 8.00 GB). Exceeding this limit requires the use of one of the formats such as POSIX "pax" format "extended tar."

How the OVF specification solves this problem of limit is by allowing virtual discs "chunked" mode, where each segment is limited to a "N" size, chosen by the 'author' AV to adapt to all restrictions in transit. The deployment of such a set OVF, the virtual disk is pulled up its component pieces.

In practice, this cut-off point is difficult to demonstrate reliable with the 'real world' data on a virtual drive. What native VMware comparison format virtual disks and optimized compressed stream such as used with the OVF / EGGS, you will see the ratios approaching 2:1 or better (15 GB Guest OS reported filesystem used integrated like size vs 7.95 GB size) since you have bulky gains from several factors:

  • Idea of file system 'which is the disk' vs data blocks occupied within the virtualized disk in comments

  • Number of 'busy' blocks of data that are still set to zero

  • Distribution non-zero data (random location) in the virtual disk blocks

  • Compressibility of data blocks (random content) nonzero

The worst statistics is that the test cases WILL are written to take into account, however, which would result in a situation with zero bulky gains.

For OVF 0.9 available spec (which is what 1.9 VRVAP criteria have been developed against) the plan of action at the time the caution should restrict outright.

Since this point OVF 1.0 has been finalized, new products with the OVF 0.9 / OVF 1.0 support were available and the possibility of a better solution for the OVF 1.0 spec deliverables presented, until the next iteration of criteria VRVAP will add another set of test cases specifically differentiate OVF 0.9 and 1.0 OVF deliverables.

For OVF 1.0 spec deliverables 'today', a tool is already available in VMware Studio 2 (/ opt/vmware/share/ovftool/ovftool) as well as regards to the stand-alone download (1.x OVF tool) which is capable of producing mode virtual disks 'segmented '.

    Yes.

IOS or system caches are called "Documents & Data" or D & D for short and 'others '. They can be seen by plugging your iOS device on iTunes - on the Summary tab down there will be bar display accurately. They cannot be deleted. The only way to reset is to do a system restore. A restore will reduce the size of D & D and others, but they will start to grow again. However, applications have caches that can be deleted. Safari for example > you can delete all Cookies and data. For other applications, it depends on the application.

The system restore. First save your device via iTunes. Also import your photos on your computer and copy all the data if possible. Reconstruction of the support first test and test. If this does not help, you may need to restore as a new and reconfigure from scratch as the backup may be damaged. It is important to have your photos and your saved data separately from the backup. • Why some devices (like the PS3) connects through the 5 Ghz band? (EA3500)

Just installed a Linksys N750 (EA3500) router (WAN - LAN Configuration).

I have set the two broadband networks: 2.4 Ghz and 5 GHz with different SSID and different WAP/WAP2 staff mixt.

While some devices display correctly the two networks, I am facing problems with the 5 GHz band and wonder if it's the breath of some sort of failure:

-My iPad offered the two signals and allow me to define the 5 Ghz band, but it is showing the weak signals and stall when loading Web pages; as soon as I put it instead on the 2.4 Ghz band, (standing at the same place, of course), what's up, excellent signal.

-J' have a Mac Mini and the location of the PS3 side by side.  The Mac Mini seems to work perfectly in both bands, 2.4 or 5 - excellent signal. However, the PS3 has failed his test of connection and indicates that the signal is not noticeable on the 5 GHz. But connect as a wink on the 2.4 Ghz band.

-Got on and off voltage signal of 5 GHz on a laptop; connected to 2.4 Ghz, everything works perfectly.

-iPhone 4s: I can't even see the SSID of 5 GHz, but I get the 2.4 so Guess account...

So I'm tempted to conclude that some devices can not just keep up (?) to connect on 5 GHz...  But... a PS3? ... Huumm... (but true: PS3 came out in 2006...)

    No logic to this?

    Thank you

    Rob

There are devices just wireless which are not turned on or is not compatible to work with a network of Ghz band. The WiFi feature may not be up-to-date or limited to only work with a network of 2.4 Ghz. In your case, you might want to check with Sony so PS3 can be updated to work with a network of 5 GHz.

  • iPod Classic not registered as one of my devices in iCloud, but in iTunes

Okay, short of a Mac, I'm completely in the Apple gear with my devices.

I'm all mounting upward so, made sure that all my t were crossed and i's dotted. Yes, color me surprised when my old 120G Classic iPod appears in ITunes, but not registered as one of my devices in iCloud (he is quite present in the "my support profile, as it should").

It's very confusing, and I don't know what to do with him. It works well, sync in iTunes as it should, clearly shows my property, but here, it is not a 'thing' in my iCloud.

Little tip if you want to be so nice.

    Thank you.

iPod (except iPod touch which is a device like the iPhone iOS) is not associated with your Apple ID.  Your iPod is associated with the iTunes library to synchronize.  Your computer and its iTunes library can be attached to your Apple (and iCloud), but your iPod is not.

NOTE: Your iPod is on your Apple ID media profile, but it is only for warranty service purposes.  There is no direct functional interaction between your iPod and your Apple ID.  Your iPod does not interact with iCloud somehow, and there is no Internet connection.

  • I will be visiting China and want to download movies to watch on the plane of Air China. I would like to download to a memory stick, so I can play the movies via my Kingston 5 in 1 for my Ipad.

I will be visiting China and want to download movies to watch on the plane of Air China. I would like to download to a memory stick, so I can play the movies via my Kingston 5 in 1 for my Ipad.

Chances are that will not work.

First of all, your movies will have DRM on them which prohibit generally just put the files anywhere. And, unfortunately, most of the USB drives do not work plugged into the iPad. Most triggers a warning 'unit wants too much power. and if they don't 'make the files on the disk must be formatted to imitate a card camera to mainly use the photos app to "fool" the iPad by seeing the files. (in a folder called DCIM and with file names exactly 8 characters)

If you are unable to get this to work, you can't watch off the stick (personally if you try I would try a SD card with the card camera adapter). You must import the file on the iPad and then watch it and delete it.

That works for homemade video files, however rented downloaded movies usually have digital rights management on them that ban you placed on a file or reading them.

There are devices like the Kingston WiDrive, which makes a localized wifi hotspot you connect your iPad to then disseminate content from there. However, it takes some experience since you can have the technology part down but may or may not be able to move the files. (I only download content from itunes so I can't say for sure if it works or not)

  • Tecra S10 - unrecognized Usb device

Now, I'm on Vista, but it is even on Windows 7 or XP.

Is it possible to solve the problem?

    Hi gordan84,

Have you installed a 3rd party software/driver for the external mouse? If Yes, you should remove it.

This happens with other USB devices like printer too?

I have a problem since I installed SP2 of XP in that USB falls when the computer wakes from sleep.

The computer is up there, but I can reproduce this with SP2 only. Fortunately, I did a Norton Ghost and I restored the status of versions prior to SP2 for now.

It does not matter what is connected to the USB port, or which port it's plugged. Out of sleep causes a ToolTip message in the taskbar on an icon that represents the USB port - and the message says 'USB device not recognized '.

    Hello

  • Pencil also lets take notes like Windows pen?

Im very familiar with the iPad, but I was looking for a device like the one with windows with the especially pen to take notes, but I hated the one windows so I wondered outside made sketch pen also contributes to the drafting of notes, or should I say that it will be useful with the whole educational stuff like taking notes even math stuff?

Yes, but a full support may depend on the app.  Some note apps (penultimate, NoteShelf, Paper53 to name a few I know) are in charge of the pencil features Apple already.  Also of notability, goodnotes (notes and PDF markup app), note, note taker HD (which also has the hand writing recognition as some of the other ones I listed).  There are a lot so that it would be best to look online to some of the comments notes and/or the hand writing recognition applications that support the pencil of Apple.
