Dell Dimension 4700 solid Amber Light but now nothing

A few months ago my Dell Dimension 4700 does not, he just had a solid clear amber.  So I read on the forum and I replaced the memory and the computer booted.  It lasted for about 6 weeks, and then I got the amber light again.  So I moved the memory and used an eraser to remove static.  Still had a yellow light.  Then a few days ago I had no amber lights - nothing.  So I bought a pwer supply and installed today and it still does not work!  Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot for your helo!  I bought a power supply, but was still the question, so I bought a motherboard and my computer is a race!   Thanks again!

    Hello world

Having badly put in that my Inspiron 660 road.  When I press the button, it turns Orange fixed and there is no display.    I need to change a few items on the computer?

    Full article:

Earlier, before I clicked on the sleep button on my keyboard and left my computer for awhile.  When I came back, the computer showed a black screen, but he was still awake.  I left alone for a while, but I couldn't get the screen to show so I held the power button.

I then took over, hoping everything was ok, but then it restarted several times by himself.  Then he showed a blue screen with a frowny face indicating 'inaccessible boot device '.  I decided to try safe mode.  After scanning of the hard drive, it eventually start in safe mode.  After a few moments, I stopped it safely.

After that, I thought I should try a regular boot.  When I hit the power button, it remained white, but there is no display.  After leaving it alone for a bit, I tried to turn off by holding the power button.  But it does not work.  The only option I had was to pull the plug.  After reconnecting, there now solid amber light, no display, no post.

Hoping someone has a solution I have at least back on my computer.

  • Upgrading RAM Dell Dimension 4700

    Hi all

OK I will try once again to this type. The first time I tried to type this my Surface frozen without reason and had to be properly closed. OK, I'll update the RAM on my Dell Dimension 4700 and I need help and advice before I do. My Dell says it has 0.99 GB of RAM installed. I looked inside and found that there are two sticks of 512 MB of RAM. I found (2 sticks of 1 GB) 2GB of RAM for Dell Dimension 4700 at amazon.com and intend to purchase that. So when I update the RAM I get two sticks of 512 MB and replaced with new 2 sticks of 1 GB from amazon? Are there precautions should I take? (In addition to wear an anti-static wristband) Thank you.

Before you buy, go to http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/systemscanner

Download and run the Crucial scanner.  This will tell you:

    • supports memory of how many are in your computer
    • How much memory is in each
    • the maximum memory that can be installed on your computer and how
    • the right kind of RAM in your computer

Do not buy crucial, but pay attention to what the scanner says that you need.

In short, if you have only two supports from memory, then Yes, you need to remove the memory that is in them to put in new RAM.  However, just because you can buy two memory modules of 1 GB does not necessarily that your motherboard will accept them.

    When replacing memory.

    See http://www.crucial.com/wcsstore/CrucialSAS/pdf/install-guides/ram/crucial-dram-install-guide-en.pdf

    • take precautions against static - touch the chassis first; do not touch the contacts of the RAM modules
    • Unlock the pliers and pull it up
    • Orient the new module properly - there is usually only one way correct to put in - and push straight down firmly, but without wavering until closing locks.
  • Dell Dimension 4700 upgrade tips Help!

Hello Dell Community, I currently have a Dell Dimension 4700 and hoped to upgrade my computer to a computer game, with a budget of around $100-200.

I wonder as to the game going, that upgrades would produce the biggest change and progress in the game? I'm hoping to improve up to 2 GB of Ram and add a video card, but don't know if it is the best choice to go.

I have studied this subject and found several posts in the forums, but they were all overwhelmed and I hope to get some knowledge as well as recent graphics cards or Ram that can improve my FPS in game and all around my budget. Thank you.

Sorry, but there are very few, you can upgrade on a child of seven years 'obsolete' 4700, to make a system of 'game '.

Better to put the money upgrade, to buying new desktop PC.

  • Portege Z835 frozen at startup but now nothing

I have a Z835, only 4 months but now frozen to screen "starting Windows."

MS Windows logo was lit in his charming way, but I can't go any further.
After that, I can only make a hard stop using the power button.
The laptop worked well for 3 months, but now nothing.
I have to admit that I didn't create a restore disc, so, to a degree have myself to blame.

It was purchased in the United States and I live in Mozambique where support because it does not exist.
I can get to the configuration screens using F2 at startup - but then they seem to not make any difference and I'm not sure what I would do here anyway.

A COMPUTER store tried to re - install Windows 7 from an external drive, but it would also not go further.

I would be very happy if someone has an idea!

    Thank you

    Hello

To me, it seems that the system cannot be started.
This can have several reasons: it is possible that your HARD drive is faulty or there is something wrong with the preinstalled system.

    So what to do?
I think you should take your recovery disc (I hope that you have created this disc in the past) and try to reinstall the system.

If this is NOT possible due to a hardware problem, well in this case you need extra help a service guy

  • Failures of Dell Dimension 4700

Hello! This is my first post. I came here for support on one of my older Dell systems today, my only first. (I did recently acquired another). It was my first computer, a helping hand me down from my parents back in 2011. He never ran well. I blamed it on a lot of things to the wire of time, starting with the aging of processor Pentium 4, bad caps on the motherboard to hard drive errors. USB works, extremely slow performance, stops and weird/sali post codes at the start are all symptoms. Once I hit him (not very hard) once out of frustration and she completely restarted. Then, it worked fine for months. This weekend, however, I was reached behind the unit to plug in a USB key (the front USBs long quit date, as I mentioned above) and it stops without any sign of restart. I have tried unplugging for a while, and then reconnect (it worked in the past, it has happened before), but it did not help. I checked on the inside, and the Green LED on the motherboard was off. Then, I started to suspect the PSU. A paper clip test confirmed my suspicions... and I could see the capacitors that have failed inside during the inspection below. I tested the power supply that failed but in my other 4700, and it failed. I borrowed the PSU work from this computer and put it in one with faulty POWER, but instead of starting block flashes an orange light by the power button. The power failure took the motherboard with it: (?) Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

  • Dell dimension 9200 2 and lights 1-2-3 short beeps

    Hello

I have a Dimension 9200 bought around 2008. About 3 weeks, I started having issues getting started, until the computer wouldn't start. Lights said a bad video card, so I took out the card nvidia 260 and put the original video card in and the computer worked OK with the original video card. After another week or two, would not start the computer. I bought a used motherboard and succeeded him. When I turned on the computer, I had 2 short beeps and 1-2-3 on on the Panel. The seller knew what was up, then I sent the motherboard back and got a replacement of the replacement card is in it, but it still gives me 2 short beeps and 1-2-3 is turned on. The power led is constantly Green

While these beeps and lights mean together?

    Thank you.

    Frank

Beep codes should be in groups of three, separated by a short break, for example, 1-pause-1-pause-1. So if you hear 2 beeps, who is not useful.

    Version of Windows?

According to the Manual, G-G-G-(off) means "another failure", and:

    1. Ensure that all disk and CD/DVD cables are properly connected to the system board
    2. If there is an error message on your screen to identify a problem with a device (for example, floppy drive or hard drive), check the device to ensure that it works correctly
    3. If the operating system is trying to boot from a device (for example, floppy drive or hard drive), check the system configuration (see to make sure that the boot sequence is correct for the devices installed on your computer.

While everything is done, and you are sure that everything is installed properly and cables connected properly, remove the battery from the motherboard and the power button press / hold for about 30 seconds before reinstalling the battery. Then see if it boots with only mouse, screen and keyboard connected.

If still no go, you will have to strip to a minimum by removing all PCI cards, except known working video card all modules in memory except the one in slot 1, disconnect all drives except boot the disk hard, etc.. Do the "battery thing"and see if it boots now...»

Get out all the ram and put 1 piece at a time and or disconnect power to the hard drive and turn on.

Post it with hard drive error or did not post it at all.

The age of the system means that the drive is probably dead.
