Dell Dimension C521 CPU Upgrade

Hi all. I have a Dimension C521 (feat) and I would like my CPU from a AMD Sempron (TM) Processor 3400 + ~1.8GHz to an AMD Athlon 64 X 2 6000 3.0 GHz 2 MB socket AM2 89W ADA6000IAA6CZ. But I'm not sure about a few things, that's why I'm here. I would like to know:

  • If the AMD Athlon 64 6000 works with my computer of x 2
  • What is the recommended BIOS
  • If the fan the C521 comes with is good enough to keep it cool
  • If a 280W 955.39BTU / h Maximum PSU is fine
  • If you have any questions = D

Here is the owner's manual, if it'll help - ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_dimension_desktops/dimension-c521_owner ' s%20manual_en-us.pdf

Also, if I had to update my GPU, what would you recommend?

xXEblisXx

The Athlon 64 X 2 6000 + 3.0 Ghz, 89W Windsor, will work.

Before installing the processor, make sure you have the latest version of the BIOS version installed 1.1.11, with BIOS version 1.1.4 support AMD has been added.

The default fan and the PSU should be fine.

Bev.

  • Dell dimension e510 CPU upgrade

Almost 2 years ago, I bought a dell dimension e510 with the pentium d 820 installed processor desktop computer but now I want to put the best processor in it it may take. I did some research and discovered it might support only the pentium d, pentium 4 hyperthreading w and that the pentium d 960 was supposed to be the best pentium d processor available. I bought a

now heres where the problem begins: I put it in (radiator and all), but when I plugged it in, the power of computers led turns orange and nothing happens; No start, display, diagnostic lights or a message saying incompatible processor. I put the back of 820 to and it worked fine but the same 960 post custom. I thought that maybe the processor could be bad, so I sent it back, but the seller (seller ebay w / 99% positive feedback) says that it worked fine when he tested and it sends to me.

I would like to know if anyone knows why it might not work, I need a different version of the card mother e510, make, it would be inconsistent, or I need to do something special (like asking dell for permission?)

According to everest, my motherboard is 0HJ054, a07 bios revision. any ideas?

  • Dell Dimension E520 CPU Upgrade

Hi, I upgraded my CPU because it is too slow, and that I am I going to pay $ 80 instead of the usual price of $250. I would like to know if they are compatible with my system. All the I know is that they have the same type of socket (LGA 775). Here is the link: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115060CVF

Here's my current computer specs: 4 GB RAM DDR2 1 GB GDDR5 128 bit AMD video card, 1.86Ghz Intel core 2 duo CPU (valued at 3.33 Ghz) and a 305 power w.

If I need to change the power supply, I would love to know because I have one here that's 750w I could also use. Thank you.

    * P.S: I know I need to update my BIOS because I am currently at version 2.2.1 and the most recent is 2.2.4 (or something like that) should I just brings it to someone to do it for me, or is it easy to update? I don't know where to find them, so if someone could possibly direct me, I BIOS Phoenix technologies.

    Thanks a lot again!

The Core 2 Quad Q9505 Yorkfield 2.83 GHz LGA775 95W shown in your link is not compatible with the e520.

All Socket LGA 775 processors, listed HERE are compatible.

There should be no need to improve the power supply for a processor upgrade.

  • Absolutely the best possible upgrade for a Dell Dimension C521 graphics card?

I've been upgraded to a Dell Dimension C521, that I use as a general computer and play games.

I know that he will never play in recent games, although with the x 1300 pro that was in it when I got it I have successfully played 2 games or 3 years and more. Runs of Prince of Persia: the forgotten sands, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Darksiders without any problem (all parameters lowish and resolution 800 x 600).

Since I got it I upgraded the CPU to an AMD Athlon 64 x 2 5600 + (Windsor) and the RAM from 2 GB to 4 GB, which has cost me about £25.

I really want to update the graphics card to something better than the Radeon x 1300 Pro that I have atm. I am aware that the PSU is only 280W and I need a map of low profile for this machine, although I read Dell generally insufficiently misses their PSUS in any case. All the posts I can find here and elsewhere online seem to be old enough and I wanted to make sure that I had discovered so far had not become outdated.

So far, I found that the recommended card is the Radeon HD 6570.

Can anyone suggest something better? If not, can anyone suggest what specific version of the 6570 to get (Sapphire, Asus etc.) and the amount of memory to get with it?

    Thanks in advance.

    Can anyone suggest something better?

XFX R7 240 Low Profile Ready

30 watts TDP, against 54 watts TDP for the 6570. Faster, too.

A version of the R7 240 GDDR5 will be even faster, but more money, as well.

  • Supported dual monitor, Dell Dimension C521

I am trying to upgrade my Dell Dimension C521 to enable bi-ecrans support.  My first approach was to buy a video card, hoping to use the VGA integrated with a low end ATI video card in the Slot PCI - E.  While the video card is well worked, by using the onboard VGA in conjunction with a video card is an "unsupported configuration". It is either / or situation, which means that a monitor at the same time.

My second approach is to get a KFA2 GeForce 8400 GS graphics card, which seems to be one of the few that can be used in a low profile CPU and have a DVI and a VGA output. The problem, they do not work.  I say they, because I already tried two, and they both fail the same way: the computer seems to start up, but it is no output to the DVI cable.  If I plug the VGA cable and not on the DVI cable to the monitor, I just get a bunch of vertical lines on the monitor. I talked to a KFA technical support, although at first, they thought it would be a bad video card, they now think it might be related to the fact that power 280W does not meet the requirements of the Commission, which needs a minimum of a supply of 350W.

It seems to me that there are a few options left:

    (1) find a video of lower power of cards that has two * real * outputs - DVI and VGA - (and not only replicated TV output). It will also take a low profile video card.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    (2) upgrade of power supply 350W or more and use the 8400 GS graphics card. Unfortunately, Dell does not appear to make a more powerful PSU for the C521.  Is there power supplies for another half height Dell computers that might work?

    (3) as a last resort, a ditch the C521 and buy a more powerful computer.

Are there options that I left out?

I have a Dell Dimension C521 desktop computer. When I try to start it, the fan turns on and is really hard, but the screen does not light. How can I remove the memory modules?

A hint: make sure that the modules are filled into the slots and the clips are in the notches.

While the case is open, check that all the power cable and the data are correctly connected to the drive and the motherboard, by removing and reconnecting them.

  • The upgrade of old Dell Dimension 2400 CPU, GPU, memory, etc...

Mainly interested in CPU upgrade at this time. I have download CPU - Z to determine my profile and I provide this stitched-together set screenshots of this program:

I just put the CPU of my Dimension 5150 friend successfully. I would only reproduce on my 2400 - a much smaller machine. This computer is mainly used for the casual internet browsing, and sometimes I watch a Youtube video. The only programs that really tax the CPU are my disk defragmentation and the program CCleaner. When I have a great session of internet browsing of 100 + tabs, the CPU also emerged at this time here.

I want to the maximum this computer using cheap parts upgrades, that I can buy it on eBay. On my 5150 friend, I bought a processor upgrade for $5 delivered and a thermal paste to ebay for 80 cents. I wouldn't mind buying a cheap video card and processor to upgrade this old workhorse

    sva50233

The Dimension 2400 can use 400 MHz or 533 MHz, Socket 478, P - 4 Northwood or Celeron processor with a 512 k or more small cache.

You cannot use all processors Prescott [1 MB cache].

The maximum support of the processor is P - 4 Northwood, 533 MHz, Socket 478, 3.06 GHz.

Before upgrading the processor, make sure you have the latest version of the BIOS installed.

With regard to the video card, only the PCI cards are supported, no PCI Express card is supported.

The Dimension 2400 supports a maximum of 2 GB (2 x 1 GB Modules) memory DDR.

    scbauml

The Pentium D945 is the maximum that can be used in the Dimension 5150/E510.

However, if you don't have motherboard 0HJ054 installed and upgrade the processor on most other motherboards will rise a 'incompatible CPU"at startup and need to press F1

The Dimension 5150/E510 does not support all of the processors Pentium G20xx series, these require a different motherboard and socket.

The motherboard for the Dimension 5150/E510 has a Socket LGA 775 and can't stand not all processors Core 2 Duo/Core 2 Quad, single Socket LGA 775, P4 and Pentium D can be used.

  • Dell Dimension 8200 Memory Upgrade after upgrade the processor

    Hello

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 (shipping date is 01/05/2002) which came with a FSB of 400. I've recently updated the its origianl 1.8 GHz a 2.4 GHz processor.  I understand that the 8200 with a FSB of 400 can use 800-40ns or 800-45ns memory sticks (I think that mine came with 800-45).  I intend to upgrade memory 1 GB to 4 X 512 (2GB), I installed (4 X 256).  My question is when I went to buy the 4 X 512 memory, said the pub, it could be used in a 8200 with a 2.1 GHz CPU or less.  I have a 2.4 GHz chip. Is that going to be a problem?

    Rbatleman,

Great question!  When the Dimension 8200 was released the processor speed max was 2.1 ghz (probably why the memory you were viewing had this label).   We have updated later to the processor 2.4 ghz when it was available.  The two units came with the PC800-45 (400 mhz) memory, you should run into any problems with this memory.  Keep in mind the system supports only the RIMM modules that contain devices memory of 4, 8 or 16.  I hope this helps!

  • Dell Dimension 9200 MAX UPGRADE

As you can tell a Dell Dimension 9200 is a bit old this generation of computers, but I want max to upgrade my PC and my calculations, when I update this baby to the max, it could perhaps better than PCs today, so most important first question:

1: can I upgrade my power supply? My current diet only 350w, I am able to pass this to 500w by installing a new? Is it possible to install a new power supply on my PC again? If so, which company is the most reliable?

Thank you for your help, once this question is answered, I think my PC will be a match munching PC

    Azee123

Yes, the power supply can be improved to a 500w unit +.

The Dimension 9200 does not use an exclusive power of Dell, you can install most power supply ATX with a power connector 24 pin or 20 + 4 pin main motherboard and this can be purchased in most local computer stores, or online.

The 9200 has a rear panel open, a diet with or without the on/off switch can be installed.

Note: You need a PSU with six SATA power connectors.

When you buy a power supply, check the manufacturer's warranty, plus better, look for one with a minimum of three years.  Personally, I prefer the Corsair PSU.

The Dimension e520 is the latest model of this series, Dell made.

Only 65 processors with 800 or 1066fsb will work with the E-520.

The Q6700 should work, but before installing the processor, make sure you have BIOS version 2.2.1 [or more] installed, when additional CPU support has been added.
