Could not start, laptop computer, disk hard short DTS test failed
I am currently not able to start my laptop properly. I have a HP Pavillion G6.
When I start it, it stays on the screen with the HP logo and a black background for awhile and eventually get to a black screen with the cursor visible and mobile, but unable to do anything else.
I tried to press F11 at startup to restore the factory settings, the system recognizes the key but leads straight to a black screen that I left it for several hours, but nothing happens.
I have gone on the menu of system diagnostics and run a quick test that revealed the Hard Drive DST short, Check failed.
Will I need a new hard drive? Or is it possible to fix it?
If I need a new, where can I get one from?
Thanks for any help
Hello
The short drive Self Test (DST) failure would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced. This is also consistent with recovery and startup problems you describe.
If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.
If you live in the United States, contact HP here.
If you are in another part of the world, begin here.
If you are out of warranty and would like a guide to replacing the hard drive yourself, please let me know - include the full model number and your notebook series g6 Nr - see here for an explanation.
Kind regards

Hello markward4905
You should be able to download the drivers from the website of the manufacturer of your web cam.

Compaq presario v6000 v6409tu disk hard bios self-test fail
Hello
Windows xp no my pc compaq v6000 not starting and bluescreen showed a couple of times. I ran the BIOS (phoenix) disk hard diagnosis and the test failed. When I opened my HDD I noticed green rust as deposits into the connector on the hard drive. After cleaning with a brush, computer loaded XP successfully. But an hour later, while I was surfing in mozilla suddenly the mouse pointer started late and showed computer blue screen saying that windows has been closed down to prevent damage.
I would be grateful if someone can tell me if it's a software problem or hard drive error. If I need to replace my hard drive, what are my options, for example. rpm, capacity, provider? Thank you.
The only way you could have rusted copper into the connector on the hard drive is if liquid got in there so I am reluctant to try to speculate how much damage has been done. I remove the hard drive and connect it to the outside to another computer and run chkdsk on it to see if the drive itself is bad. As long as there is a problem on the part of connector and the interface with the motherboard cannot really trust the onboard hard drive Diagnostics. You could also get an own another new hard drive adapter.
If it does not turn on the hard drive is bad, you can replace it with any laptop SATA drive no more than 9.5 mm thick.
http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16822145587
Above is a good thing. It is slim (7mm) but it will still go into the caddy and connect to the motherboard with the connecting piece. If the hard drive itself is always good, and you replace the connector piece but he always bluescreens, so I would not spend money on a new hard drive. I would say that there was damage to the motherboard.

When I reinstalled win xp pro it didn't install any help net drivers that I can't get on internet
If you cannot access to the use of the internet, another computer and save the driver on a CD/DVD/card reader.
Download network drivers for Internet
Visit the manufacturer's Web site and select your model (this is usually done in the Support section). You should be able to download drivers for your model if they have drivers for your version of Windows. Download the driver and then follow the instructions to install.

My Dell Latitude D830 laptop takes 10 minutes or more to start. Any relay?
A few months ago 3 Windows XP SP3 was taking too long to start. I then restored Windows to a previous Restore Point and it solves the problem.
But I now downloaded and installed the latest Windows updates for my computer and he returned to long starting with white screen. (I use CCleaner and have only a handful of programs that run at startup).
Some downloaded the software, I put on an external hard drive and sometimes install from there. (Not always enabled USB hard drive) Earlier today, that it would not install drivers for midi interface Roland UA100. Could this be something to do with the drivers 'unsigned '?
Y at - it a fix for this long State of instability?
Do you have what updates installed? recommended updates perhaps?
In winupdate settings disable updates recommended, get updates of the driver, if necessary, of Dell

Whenever I install Windows XP on it, I have to go to the Dell support site and get the chipset drivers Intel, network, audio and video for all the work. XP is the original version, and then I have to install the SP2, SP3 followed.
Should I do the same thing during the installation of Windows 7? Get the drivers for the various components to work? Or Windows 7 will make installation much simpler?
Hello GJ_IJBC,
Your best option will be to run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. This will give you a screen that will tell you which drivers will be required as appropriate with what program incompatibilities there might be.

What programs do I have and what they are and what can remove chrome Google java 6 update 4,7,11 I have firefox, it's the same thing and something called microsoft redistrubate
1. you want to only have the latest Java installed. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall all older versions. Then download and install the latest version of JRE 6 Update 21.
http://Java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
2. Google Chrome is a browser. Mozilla Firefox is another browser and Internet Explorer. A browser is software that allows you to 'see' the Internet. It does not hurt to have several browsers installed, but if you do not want Google Chrome, uninstall it from Add/Remove programs.
3. make sure that your computer is free from virus/malware by performing a thorough analysis. At least do preparatory work and scan with MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware, as described here:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware
4. I'm not sure what "redistrubate microsoft something called ("restributable"?). [translation] "means, but if it persists after that you did the malware scanning please post back with the missing details.
If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad).

TouchSmart 15-d053cl: disk hard short DST Test failed
Hello
Recently, my computer froze completely, and I stopped him with a long press on the power button. When I turned it back on, Windows would not start. It would not start for a very long time and finally the hard drive would become inactive. I open the BIOS diagnostics and ran a test of the system. I got the following error message:
Test of DST short hard disk failed
Error code: RLLFTT - 7717 ST-MFKR6J - 60S 003
Product ID: F5Y25UA #ABA
Does this mean that my hard drive is defective? Since I've been able to boot into Windows, but it runs a lot slower. Do I need to worry? I ran Chkdsk, but he finds no errors. My files are still in place and I am able to access very well. What should I do about it?
Thank you!

Your hard drive is defective and must be replaced. You can continue to use your system as-is, but it will continue to get slower and, possibly, you will have problems to start as you have done before. It is recommended that you back up of your data (photos, documents, etc.) on external media (flash drive) and then replace the hard disk. After replacing the drive hard, you have to reinstall the Windows operating system using the HP recovery media.
It is not very difficult not expensive to replace the hard drive, so we can walk you through it. If you are in warranty, you can contact HP for replacement parts. If you are out of warranty, then you need to buy a replacement hard drive and the HP recovery media.

I tried for days install my wireless on my laptop Dell Latitude D600 netgear router.
I have a Dell Dimension C521 desktop running Windows XP. I also have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop running Windows XP also.
At the moment I am using Samsung mobile RV511 of my daughter running Windows 7 Edition family. His computer is connected to the wireless network netgear that I installed, and the computer had a much better connection.
I know this isn't rocket science, but why the hell I can't gt my laptop connected to the way in which it must do in order to have as good as the connection as a computer for my daughter?
