Dell PowerEdge 1950 BMC help!
Hello
I thought that the server takes a long time to start. I hooked up to a monitor and found that the BMC was having a "communications failure". I found also that the DRAC5 installed on the server was not working. I scoured the forums and I read the update from the BMC would solve this problem. I have 2012 R2 server installed on this system, so I downloaded the 2.50 for the BMC update (.) (EXE) and started to install it, fans crawls up to maximum speed and then I got a BSOD when the server restarts the PERC6 now cannot see my 2 TB drive that windows (SATA) installed, he can see the 300 GB SAS drive.
Is it possible to get my 2 TB hdd working again and to get the BMC to work?
Thank you
Hardware and software failures occur. May not have been avoided. However:
You might have been able to reflash the firmware BMC (unless it is completely unresponsive or nonfunctional).
You may have attempted to clear the system NVRAM.
As far as the reader goes. It is very important to learn the difference between CLEAR and IMPORT and when to use one or the other.
Finally, consumer/desktop/computer portable readers should not be used in servers. WD Green, blue and Red are all bad choices for use on RAID of company systems.

As I said earlier:
OK, I am trying to install vSpere on my Dell PowerEdge 1950.
Hardware specifications:
4 GB FB-DIMM DDR2 memory
x 2 processor Intel Xeon, 2 carrots, 3.00 GHz
There a RAID BIOS, so I had to create a Raid 0 virtual disk to install anything.
Drive hard WD 1 TB, it's the one I use for the VD.
When I choose which hard drive I use, I select the VD, I created, I select my keyboard language, then the configuration scan my material, then he asks me if if want to install, I pressed F11. Then, when it reached 5%, it throws an error: "partedUtil failed with the message: error: can not have a partition outside the disk!
He says that it cannot install it on a virtual drive? My server is not compatible?
Edit: There is another error that says: cannot read the partition table for device:
/VMFS/devices/disks/NAA.60019b90bd8289001e62575a584731e0
What is going on!!! Why vmware cannot have tutorials on "How to install Esxi on a server with RAID BIOS"?
Check if the virtual HARD disk you packed is initialized. It seems that the installation is not written on this HARD drive. Back to the HARD Disk Manager (you probably PERC5 / I) to start the process I think is CTRL + R? find your virtual drive and launch. Take a look at the image as an attachment.

How can I fix?
I also tried to boot Ubuntu from a usb key and that no longer works.
I also said to update BIOS or Flash the Bios but I don't know how to do and do not know if that'll fix it.
I want to just get to the top and running, it can be Ubuntu or windows everything is easier.

The lamp indicator yellow LED on Dell PowerEdge 1950
Hello
You asked me to "remove" the warnings of several Dell PowerEdge 1950 LED amber.
I looked at the LED and was unable to 'remove' the warning using the controls on the LED display on the front the 1950s.
How this is done?
Thank you.
Hello
If the error is not active then you can get rid of the clear amber of the erasure of the journal of material. You can either start to the BMC to clear the or use one of our management as OpenManage Server Administrator utilities.
Thank you

map of scsi (redirect) dell poweredge 1950
Hello world
I installed and running a Dell poweredge 1950 that I use it to backup (tape) using Backup EXEC 2014. In the alley, he has an empty slot for a SCSI expansion card where a need can connect via a SCSI connection a different external tape drive. Due to the fact that the dell model is quite old, it is difficult to find a type of card.
I found online something to my request: [View:www.xbyte.com/ProductDesc.aspx]
but the problem is that it has two SCSI ports and it is too big to get it. I tried to find one with a single port, but I can't seem to find it. Have you also had this problem and if so where you bought the SCSI expansion? There is also the option to purchase a SCSI cable / USB, but I don't want to go with this solution. All advice what to do or where to buy expansion card I need.
Thanks for the tips.

PowerEdge 1950 refuses to update BIOS
I'll have a chance update the BIOS of a Dell Poweredge 1950. The vehicle currently has BIOS version installed 2.4.5. I get "BIOS Update Failed" when restarting.
I tried to install 2.7.0 and then tried 2.6.1 when it does not work. I also tried to open a command windows server 2012 R2 and using the/force command prompt when you run the BIOS update. That no longer works.
Any help?

Dell PE 1950 and loading of Small Business SERVER 2003
Recently bought a Dell PowerEdge 1950 off Ebay for a training machine. Also bought a few books of MCBS Server 2003 and Small Business Server 2003. I try to install SBS on 1950, but it does not recognize the RAID. I have a USB floppy drive I could load with F6 drivers but can't seem to find just the Perc 5 / I drivers. Site Web of Dell gives only a Setup driver that wants to install the drivers on my laptop when I use it. Could get only the drivers for a PERC 5 / I integrated. My Service tag #
maintain the label removed by privacy policy > I tried a server assistant open gale who would have worked very well, but it doesn't have the SBS2003, only Server 2003 list that does not work either. Thanks for your help You need the "hard drive" (ZPE) version of the driver, and you have to run the EXE file to extract the files before using it:
http://downloads.Dell.com/FOLDER97889M/10/DELL_MULTI-DEVICE_A07_R211422.exe
In addition, you MUST configure the RAID in the CTRL-R utility until all discs can be seen by the operating system, even with the correct drivers.
You realize that Server 2003 will be end of life in less than a year, right? Why the push for 2003 training? You would be better off learning from 2012.

I have a rack with several different generations of Poweredge 1950 servers and a few R610s. I would like to distance the departure (WOI), stop and use the systems in the basket. Systems do not have the DRAC cards installed.
I WOL installation for all systems and can start and stop all on the local network very well. If I can start a unique system of p1950 remotely, then I can easily start and stop all the systems using this unique system.
But I can't do simple p1950 system to remote start. I put the Port Forwarding on my router/modem DSL to transfer 9 UDP to the system and sees the magic packet very well... but it will not turn on.
I am familiar with the planks of the DRAC and the various management tools remotely, but reading that I did... it seems possible to be able to power and turn off the machine to the Internet.
Please can someone explain what I need to be able to remotely turn on the system?
I can do without a DRAC card installed?
This software is required to send to connect with the system and send the signal from power?
Thank you!
You can use the ipmitool to turn on and turn off the server. For this you require not DRAC. You must follow the steps below to configure this
- Configure the IP address and compatible IPMI over LAN to iDRAC or BMC.
- R610 will have default iDRAC. For more details see section "Using the iDRAC6 Configuration utility" on iDRAC user's Guide. You can download the iDRAC from here user guide
- 1950, you need to configure BMC. You can configure the IP address and IPMI over LAN at similar to R610 boot
- R610 will have default iDRAC. For more details see section "Using the iDRAC6 Configuration utility" on iDRAC user's Guide. You can download the iDRAC from here user guide

We have a bunch of Dell PowerEdge 2950 s, they came with a built-in SAS Perc5i RAID controller.
Unfortunately the Perc5i is a kind of fake raid 10 (a span of mirrors) rather than a bunch of mirrors so we had to get some raid cards appropriate instead.
So now the perc5i on board is disconnected from the bottom of basket and disabled in bios, and we have our new raid card installed and connected to the bottom of basket - all is well and they work well.
However when the machines bios startup stops and we get an error message saying the following:
«SAS B cable missing /.» Misconfigured.
Turn the system power off and connected properly. Details for the wiring of storage system information label and manual Ownders hardware.
Press F1 to continue, F2 to run the configuration utility.
How can we stop this message? This is obviously completely false; our new SAS cards are connected to the bottom of the basket and works very well. I don't see anywhere to disable this message in the bios or the 5 BMC Management utility.
BIOS version is 2.2.6 (last)
BMC firmware is 1.97 (last)
Backplane firmware is 1.05 (last)
Help, please!

Dell PowerEdge 2950 of installation
I'm testing DPM on a Dell PowerEdge 2950. To make this work, I have need to configure IPMI if I can have a server go to safe mode and out of safe mode. I've been Googling like crazy, but have been unable to find an answer on how to get this working. Whenever I try to put my host in standby I get this message:
vCenter has determined that it cannot resume host & lt; hostname & gt; standby; Therefore, the eve of the entry task was suspended.
Confirm that IPMI/ILO is configured correctly for host & lt; hostname & gt;. Or, configure vCenter to use WoL, making sure there are at least two or more hosts in the cluster, and then try the task again.A couple of things about this error: an it is a cluster two host (for testing purposes). Two, I use Dell hardware so I have to use IPMI not ILO.
I have connected my DRAC page and enabled IPMI over LAN, but I don't know what else to do here, and I don't know where all the parameters concerning this in vCenter or ESX. Any help would be appreciated.
Gunnar
I used the setting of Dell OpenManage.
Under system / main system / remote access, you can see:
Select the IPMI Over LAN-> Yes (don't forget it is YES)
SOIL active Yes
XXXXXXXXXX MAC address
IPv4 address
IP address static Source
YYYYY IP address
In ESX, under Configuration / PowerManagement / properties I use:
BMC IP: YYYYY
BMC MAC: XXXXX

Dell PowerEdge T110 II add on the video graphics card that works
The system configuration:
Dell PowerEdge T110 II
BIOS 2.8.0
RAM 2x8GBFor many reasons (for example feeding bus PCI), it is difficult to install a Dell PowerEdge T110 II graphics card. The ATI Radeon HD 5450 is a good choice for the Dell PowerEdge T110 II because if its (approximately 10W) low energy consumption.
After trying several HD 5450 (listed below), a graphics card that works is a "VisionTek Radeon HD 5450 - graphics card - Radeon HD 5450 - 2 GB memory DDR3 - PCI Express 2.1 x 16'.
Edit: Thanks to paikat for the following references, (see his assignment for the links, where to buy)...
VisionTek manufacturer: 900356
Reference Dell: A6173020This card works when the monitor is connected to the VGA/D-SUB/DB15 connector. I wasn't looking to connect to HDMI or DVI connectors.
After you install this graphics card, passed the BIOS Setup:
Integrated Devices > integrated video controller: enabledby saying:
Integrated Devices > integrated video controller: Standardand allowed to move from "Standard" to "Distributed" so it now says:
Integrated Devices > integrated video controller: distributedNote: Install the card with the monitor connected to the integrated video port / edge, change the BIOS to Distributed settings, restart the computer and then connect the monitor to the Discrete / distributed / video port to Add on.
Here are the identifiers on the "VisionTek Radeon HD 5450 - graphics card - Radeon HD 5450 - 2 GB memory DDR3 - PCI Express 2.1 x 16'

Note there is another version of this card is ONXFX1PLS2 who has not tested.* EX-PX610GT-video JATON GeForce GT 610 2 GB 128 - Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x 16 HDCP ready low profile ready card video

I hope this can help others avoid the frustration when you try to install a video card in a Dell PowerEdge T110 II.
SR2002I have read this thread and seen the suggestion of VisionTek, it also works with the card mother E3-1230V2?My guess is the Dell PowerEdge T110 II uses the same motherboard for various configurations of CPU, but this is only a guess.
SR2002Also, are there better options eventually with the support of 12 DDR5 and directx?None that I know, but I've only tried a few cards. Please let us know if you find cards better than the VisionTek 900356
SR2002I saw a thread suggesting ASUS GTX650-E-2GD5, someone at - he of the inputs on this card?I tried a GeForce GT 610 2 GB and it did not work. Check the use of the GTX650-E-2GD5 (DPT) power and make sure that it is less than 25 watts (see below)
Quick notes:
1. the location of PCIe x 16 is actually a "full-size x 8 slot" (also known as an x 16 slot / x 8) and the video card needs to work in this type of accommodation.
2. video card power (TDP) is a limiting factor. Technical guide Dell says "the system supports a maximum power of 25 W for all four cards PCIe.» and said Dell owner's manual "ATTENTION: to ensure correct cooling, not more than two cards of four extension may have more than 15 W power consumption (maximum 25 W each), not to mention the integrated storage controller card."
3 install the card with the monitor connected to the integrated video port / edge, change the built-in BIOS devices > on-board video controller 'Activated' / 'Standard' to 'Distributed', restart the computer and then connect the monitor to the Discrete / distributed / video port to Add on.
