Dell PowerEdge 2900 Gen 3 storage issue

Server is updated the firmware and the BIOS has to SAS6 6i controller. Operating system is Ubuntu Server LTS 14.04.

Drive is a 4 to Seagate...

Appears in gdisk and present as only 2 TB. If I pop the drawer and put it in a server Win2014R2 with UIEF/EFI BIOS, it says 4 TB.

Is this a problem with the system BIOS or the firmware of the controller?

Hello

MAFoElffen
Is this a problem with the system BIOS or the firmware of the controller?

There is no problem. Maximum drive size supported on the 6 SAS is 2 TB.

Thank you

  • DELL Poweredge 2900 - disk failure

    Hello

We have an old Dell Poweredge 2900 our SQL Server database running server.  Last week, we discovered that Raid 5 is degraded and disk 0 disk 1 is seeing completely to the bottom and the poster.  We were already down, so even if we had it running by buying a replacement of the SAS 146 GB 10 k disk we would still be short of storage of data of space.  I bought a SAS Seagate Cheetah 15 k 600 GB ST3600057SS and I would like to replace the failed drive with it.

    Question:

    (1) open handle is not installed, but want to install.  What version I can use for this 2900 server.

    (2) my replacement of a 146 GB with a 600 GB can work?

Please for your advisor as this database server is essential for my operation of the company.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello.

    ISOSA
    (1) open handle is not installed, but want to install.  What version I can use for this 2900 server.

Download OpenManage Server Administrator v7.4.0.2 form this link: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=MGRG4

    ISOSA
    (2) my replacement of a 146 GB with a 600 GB can work?

Replacing 146 GB with 600 GB of disk drive will not provide any extra space you need because the table will use only 146 GB of total space 600 GB on the new drive. What controller you have installed? In case the only option available for you that your controller does not support the extension of ability online (ECO) could be to backup your data, delete the existing RAID array and re - create another table with the new readers of 600GO. Restore data from backup and re-install the operating system.

  • Dell PowerEdge 2900 RAID and drive down

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2900 server. The primary transmission table has three drives and RAID 5. The system came this way, and it has been humming for quite a long time. Recently, one of the disks has deteriorated and the light on the drive flashes green and light amber. The light amber, I figured, it means that there is a problem with the drive and must be replaced. Then, I found a replacement on Amazon.com drive and installed (the drive is hot, but my cold started to be sure). I installed the drive, but keeps flashing green and amber light.

I didn't know that I shouldn't have to replace the drive in this way, so I will now try to figure out what to do next. I hoped to reallocate the foreign disk so that I can use it, but my server always shows the reader, not having even if the new replacement drive is in the slot, now.

    I'm running PERC 5 / I integrated utility of Configuration Bios 1.04 - 019 a

I started the server and you press CTRL-R. I've highlighted the controller and press the F2 key, what is operations. When the operations window opens, there are three menu items:

    Create new VD
    Zero Config reset
    Foreign config

The only thing that I am allowed to do in this menu is to reset the configuration. I can't move my cursor upwards or downwards for one of the other choice of two menu.

Scroll when the virtual disk and he discovers, it still shows the first two discs and a lack.

When I press CTRL + N to display the next screen, I see a player listed as failed.

How can I rebuild my RAID with this new drive? If I can't do it, what is the best way to remove the RAID and start over? If I delete the RAID and do it again (and if my replacement drive is indeed well), how can I make sure that my server not to see it, not having so that I can start using it?

Alternating flashing green/orange means that the disc is in a status of predictive failure. What OS is running system? If you hotswap drive next failure they may possibly other issues table because the drive was online and participating in the table with errors on the disk. The adequate alternative method is to use our software Openmanage Server Administrator to run a consistency check on the table and then the drive offline. Once this has been done you can then swap the drive. It seems that in your case, that the new drive had bad data copied on it and it made a predictive failure as well. We want to do is run our hard drive diagnostics and test drives in the system.

Install and run the GUI version in the start menu. In the left pane select the PERC 5 and then in the lower right pane select quick test and then to run tests.

  • Dell PowerEdge 2900 - need to use internal drives for RAID

    Hi all

I am the I.T. guy for small business from my father. I help them on the side.

They have recently purchased a PowerEdge 2900 server used with 4 internal SCSI drives

This server also has a Dell SAS 5 / i integrated controller

I want to install Windows 2008 R2 standard on this server and use it as a file server and a place to host QuickBooks Enterprise.

The problem, in that I am running is that I can't find in the Bios or anywhere in the server startup utilities where I can configure the 4 internal drives as a RAID 5 array. I want to do this and THEN install the Windows Server operating system. I used the last Build Server utility Dell and also updated all the firmware to the latest versions. The Build Server utility doesn't let me configure the RAID array.  What I'm missing here?

Thank you very much for your help!

I upgraded to a PERC 6 / i integrated RAID controller and now problem is solved. Just need a new controller internal RAID.

    Problem is solved!

  • Need help with a dell Poweredge 2900

Hello and thank you for taking the time to look at my post. I'm new to the part of the server of having to learn for my new job and the computer. at the moment I am working on the poweredge server 2900 of the company. the main person of tech IT is eager to start the operating system, the front-wheel drive, but whenever I tried to install the server in the window on them. they appear at all. I went into the raid controllers and they appear but none where els. He said that it had removed them or something, so I had to re install the configuration for the raid controller will pick up. I don't know if what he wants can happen. I know possible with normal computer, but like I said. I'm still new to the part of the entire server from the computer. Thanks for any help in advice :)

You have to be careful with the use of the following words, because it is confusing if evil is used:

Disks - physical hard drives used to store data
Drivers - software used to tell the operating system how to use a particular device

Start CTRL-r, highlight the controller on the VD MGMT, F2 screen, Create/New... don't forget to tick the boxes advanced and Initialize When creating new arrays. With two players, you can create a RAID 0 or RAID 1 - again, don't use not RAID 0. (If all tables exist, delete them all first.)

Once the table/VD has been created, you can start the OS installation disc to install. There is NO need to define "master boot record"... This will be done automatically during the installation of the OS.

What OS you install? With 2003, you must load the drivers during installation... Avoid using too much at this point: 2003. With 2008 and later versions, the drivers are included, it is not necessary to load them during installation.

  • DELL PowerEdge R730 (Gen 13) always 100% fan (16000 RPM +)

    Hello

I have a brand new R730 DELL.  Since the time I first started the box, the beginning of fans out to what I consider normal speed, halfway through start, then for as long as the box is enabled, the fans are strong and spinning to their maximum rate 100% or about 16000 RPM.  There are 6 fans in this area.

I have updated the BIOS to the latest firmware 2.2.25, I also updated the firmware from LifeCycleController to the last 2.40.40.40.

Dell technician has been there twice to replace 1) all motherboard (motherboard) and the other 2) maps PCI riser (who had the button intrusion).

The server fans still spin 100%.

    I did:

    -the flea power drain

-the IPMI command to turn off cooling for PCIe

-remove all memory but 1 chip in A1 and deleted 8 SSDS.

    Turning always to 100%.

When you look at the installation of the fan to the iDRAC, I can't even set a custom value because the beach is stuck at 100-100%.

There is no additional PCI or PCIe cards installed.

Does anyone have an idea what is happening here.  It does not seem right that this fan run at 100% all the time.

Looking at the configuration of the system, the server was shipped with 2 processors Intel Xeon E5-2689 V4. These processors have additional thermal requirements and so RPM fans' will operate 100% as a trade off. Based on this information, the fans run according to the needs.

  • Upgrade memory PowerEdge 2900 III

All 3 poweredge 2900 people use the same type of ram? I have a dell poweredge 2900 III and am looking at an upgrade of ram which is listed as compatible with the first generation, the PC2-5300F. I was wondering if this does not work for my 2900 gen 3.

Also, can someone shed some light on what the maximum capacity of RAM for the 2900 III.

    Thank you guys!

    Hello.

The PC2-5300F which is a fully Buffered DIMM is which was delivered with all the 9th Gen Dell servers and should be compatible across all revisions of 2900. What is the size of the memory you are looking for? In my view, that the maximum RAM capacity on the 2900 III server is 48 GB.

I hope this answers you questions.

  • PowerEdge 2900 (and 2950) with PERC 5i - extend Raid 5

    Hello

I have a Dell (PowerEdge 2900) server with a Raid PERC 5i (with BBWC) controller and 4 SATA drives installed (a virtual disk Raid 5, Windows 2008).

Now I have an extra drive (same capacity, same speed) and installed on the server.

I tried to expand the existing virtual disk (and the disk group) with the new physical disk drive in the BIOS of the controller and openmanage server administrator (managed node) running on windows.

But it is not possible to do with this Raid Cntrl?

Is there a way to do this without loss of data and maintenance of raid 5 redundancy?

The same procedure I need to do on a PE2950 (PERC5i)

    Thank you and best regards,

    loop11

What have you tried exactly, and what has happened or what have you seen?  You did not mention anything that leads me to believe that you tried this in the right place :)

The PERC 5 / I can do without a doubt:

With the disc, go to OMSA, PERC, case/bottom of basket, storage, physical disks and make sure your drive shows ready.

If ready, go to the OMSA, storage, PERC, virtual disks, select Reconfigure in the drop down menu to your RAID 5, follow the wizard to add the disk.

If the record shows the foreign, go to the OMSA, storage, PERC, Information/Configuration (link at the top of the page), click on foreign/clear in the dropdown menu, then follow the directions above.

  • ESX 3.5 will recognize additional HDs on PowerEdge 2900 (is not a member of a RAID 1 configuration)?

    Hello gurus/VM-masters

I am still a novice in the VM world: 3

    The installation program:

Dell PowerEdge 2900 running VMware ESX Server 3i 3.5.0 build-153875

Installation of two hard disks in RAID 1

Only one store of data in RAID1

    The question:

I have an extra hard drive that I want to add. http://Cheetah 15K.6, SAS (Serial Attached SCSI)

I was wondering if there where it is possible to add additional hard drive and create a new data store to add new virtual machines on it?

ESX will recognize it as additional storage?

Is it bad/mess with existing RAID1 configuration?

Or is it simple, plug-in HD

    Thank you!

RAID 0 - a definition of tolerance drive no fault, in this case a single PIN.

Many raid controllers able technical force you to set the drive as a feature available on the controller, before the operating system can see it, in this case a drive would give a raid 0 LUN set on the controller.

Your controller will accept it is submitted or you need to take the material down to set it. Sometimes, this feature is available via an interface ILOM (Integrated Light Out Manager) of the server allowing the definition without an outtage.

  • PowerEdge 2900 switchable hot

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2900 running windows Small Business SERVER 2003, we will be taken out of service soon, but we just had a departure by car to go bad - seeing yellow flashes and error on LCD server message: 'E1 H10 HDD1 fault.'   daily backups and weekly regular running properly because of corruption, then I copied the table as a security measure.  I bought a new drive identical to the 4 existing disks that are configured as Raid 1.

    The drive is a:
    341-4430 750 GB 7.2 K rpm Universal SATA 3Gbps 3.5-inch hard drive

    The raid controller is:
    341-5754 1 SAS/SATA embedded RAID 1, PERC 6 / i integrated/SAS6/iR

Can I leave the server running and pull the wrong drive and drag the new, without running applications before or after this procedure, and will be automatically rebuild the raid?

I know that I need to replace the server.  But my immediate need is to solve the problem of bad disc, and I'd appreciate any advice or a link to the instructions in this procedure.

We are a small non-profit and have none of the staff and no budget assistance, or I would have called in help.

    Thank you

It is a Dell application that will interface directly with the hardware. It must be installed on any Dell server that you manage. On the downloads page, it is called OpenManage Server Administrator - Managed Node, use the 32-bit version.
