Dell Precision Workstation 690 with Win7-64 final. -3 TB hard drive?

I have a Dell Precision Workstation 690 with Win7 64 Ultimate installed.  I want to use a 3 TB drive.  How will I know if the SATA controller is compatible with a 3 TB drive. ???

How to know what Board motherboard or the SATA controller module I have?  When the computer starts first the BIOS detects SAS 5 Host Bus HBAO (?)  I forgot the exact name of disks while he finds the SATA drives.

Greetings Tenoc,

Thanks for posting your question on the community.

The integrated SAS controller that comes with the Precision 690 name: 1068 LSI PCI - X - SAS 3 Gb/s controller. He is old enough, at this stage, and I'm sure that it only supports MBR (limit UP to 2 TB).

You can try adding in a newer card, like the Perc H710. Not sure if it works or not. There are various other cards you might try there.

  • The power supply for Dell Precision Workstation upgrade

Recently, I posted a question regarding the upgrade of that food to a XPS 8700 and it seems that I can use ATX power supplies and replace as necessary to these computers. But now I am also thinking of dell precision workstations, because I want to have a few relatively high-performance computing done on my system, what it seems as a workstation would be better, as the work of Dell Precision T1700 Mini Tower. But I can't understand anything on the question of whether I can pass the integrated power supply so that it exceed 700w. Thus,.

    (1) any reflection on the power supply upgrade, whether possible?

    (2) are there jobs integrated with a high (greater than 700watts) power?

    (3) in the future, if I wanted to know if I could make these upgrades to other Dell machines, where can I find out about this?

    Hi Daniel191919,

Yes, most power supplies from Dell can be improved with standard parts. But honestly, the easiest would be to get a precise work with the PSU W 1100 high range.

  • Seen my original library cut in two, can I have the second library on my laptop with images referenced on my external hard drive?

Following the Division of the library and the Organization,

I can duplicate the library system on an external hard drive. Then divide the library and erase part of it on my library system and do the same on the library to external hard drive blocking the erased part of the library system. Essentially to save space on my laptop. But I need to have two libraries on my laptop, one with the originals and iCloud services, and the second with "small pictures" listed on the external hard drive. Can I do it? How can I do? ¿Is - it safe on two libraries?

    Thank you!

If you want to turn outside your library in a referenced library, with the originals on the external hard drive, you can not do it by duplicating the library if your original library is managed. Does not support photos to transform photos managed in referenced. The only way to make a photo referenced must import it such that referenced.

    You can do the following:

    • Export all the photo you want to move to a second library to your external drive.
    • Then, create an empty library on your internal drive and import the photos exported to this library with the preference "import. Copy items to the library' for disabled people.
    • Delete all the photos in your library that you moved to your new library referenced iCloud.
    • Keep a backup copy of your original library on your external drive, so that you can revert to the original version, if you made a mistake.
  • Problems with El Capitan w / WD external hard drive

I have trouble with El Capitan find the external hard drive. I put a couple of external hard drive in both my mac mini.

    OS X El Capitan

    10.11.3 version

    Mac mini (late 2014)

    Processor: 2.6 GHz Cose i5

My external 2 TB USB drive working

My not-so-working external WD My Book

    • FireWire 800
    • FireWire 400
    • USB 2.0

It was before mini mac OS El Capitan. But lately, my mac mini showed that the WD My Book was read-only. Then, the WD hard drive disappeared from my finder! Same with Disk Doctor app.

What format is the external drive in?

If you have used NTFS before OS X El Capitan your third-party NTFS software will need to be updated.  OS X can natively read NTFS volumes, but the third party software is necessary to allow write access.

If your player is in HFS +, then it could be a permissions problem.

I just upgraded from the LR5 LR6 on my Macbook Air to OS 10.9.5. LR5 photos 38K, especially on an SSD connected with 2 years on an internal hard drive, gave a 48 GB LR5 catalog. Starting LR6, I decided to import all the photos of 38K stored on my SSD to form the LR6 catalog, but it is now 108 GB. Is he aware would be so much bigger than LR5 LR6 catalog? Should I redo, selecting the LR5 catalog to import to the LR6?

I don't pretend to re-do an import, I do not import or re - import at all.

You can delete the catalog Lightroom 6 and his insights that you created. You want to have the Lightroom 6 to upgrade the 5 Lightroom catalog file. Use the file-> open catalog and point to the 5 Lightroom catalog file. Once it is successful, you can also delete or archive the 5 Lightroom Catalog and delete its previews. As a piece of advice, never re - import photos. NEVER, as in... do not, do not, don't go anywhere near it.

Regarding the size of the preview, you can control this in Lightroom under the catalog tab file management settings.

  • Dell Precision T3600 problem with feedback headphones

    Hi all

I recently acquired a new Dell Precision T3600 (in January 2013). However, I got a problem with your comments when I insert earphones into the headphone jack on the front of the office. The noise can be described as a sizzling/humming noise that is loud to the point that it is too distracting to listen to the audio through it. You can hear in the headphones, however, comments are always present and distracting. I also used several different headphones to exclude that, as the problem.

I'd love to hear from others if it is a common problem with this system. I've read elsewhere that it could be a problem with the graphics card from NVIDIA, but I'm not sure.

    Kind regards

  • I'm finally upgrading to XP (SP3) to Win7. I have two hard drives on my computer.

Can I move the files I want to save on the other hard drive and install Win7 on the main HD instead of buy an external HD as the instructions State?

I have an old Dell XPS410 with 2 GB of RAM and two HDs. The only thing I use the other HD for storage is (I am an artist and musician). The idea of having to save this HD set is terrifying for me right now there are about 350 GB worth of songs made with reason and images and web graphics made with Photoshop. The last thing I want to do is lose this kind of things. The 2nd HD was added long after I initially bought the computer, and I have never re-installed the system since the 2nd HD has been added.

A custom install of Win7 would also remove the info on the second HD?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Move your songs during the second drive unit. Then turn off the computer and unplug the data cable from the second drive unit. This will leave only the drive that you want to install Windows 7 on connected and nothing on the second disc will be safe.

Custom installation (which is your only option when upgrading Windows XP will however require that you all you reinstall applications (including Photoshop), so locate all your installation media and product keys.)

  • 2.04 Ubuntu comments on VMware Workstation 9 under Win7 can't see ext4 USB drive

Comments from 2.04 Ubuntu on VMware Workstation 9 under Win7: on computer A trivially, I connected to an out-of-the-box 64 GB USB drive formatted for VFAT on Ubuntu in a VM. I re-init'ed the player for ext4 (mkfs.ext4), mounted, drop a bunch of stuff on him (which took awhile), he dismounted and walked away. The next day, identically configured computer B, I inserted the USB key. Natch, Win7 may not go up because it does not ext4. But Ubuntu don't see either, so I can't be installed. Do not see under removable devices, no small icon bottom left of the screen of VMware, nothing in the settings menus or properties, etc. I think it's just me being a noob to VMware, but it seems that Ubuntu under VMware Workstation 9 cannot see the drive unless Win7 can go up. Seems unlikely. KB searching, Googling, etc. produce many unrelated things. Ideas? AdvTHANKSance.

Here is the final answer: works great on an earlier version of VMware Workstation 9 on one of the Windows 7 of my client machines, it didn't work on my Windows 7 computer. I upgraded to VMware Workstation 10 on my Windows 7 computer, and now it works perfectly. If I call you this a bug in this version later 9 which was set at 10. Could also be had I simply uninstalled 9 and reinstalled which would have fixed it too. But I'll never know.

  • Dell XPS 420 with Vista Home Premium, replaced the hard drive, download now blue screen errors

My girlfriend has a desktop Dell XPS 420 quit working a year or 2 ago. A computer technician told me that it sounded as if the hard drive was bad, recently I purchased from Dell, a Seagate 1 TB hard drive (the original is a Western Digital 320 GB).

I bought also, once again from Dell, a copy of its installation discs for Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

I installed the new hard drive, correctly, as far as I can tell, but I tried several times over the past days to install Vista and a few times I got errors (BSoD) STOP and a few other times, Windows Installer errors.

    What's wrong?

I run Dell diagnostics that took almost a whole day, but I don't think anything. I have not partitioned the hard drive, it's like 931 GB.

I think that may be something related to the RAM, but I'm not sure.

    Thanks for any help.

  • New computer - OS Win7 will recognize plu not HARD drive

    Hi all:

Recently helped a friend build a new computer. We organize a new 1 TB WD HDD with Win7, it also has a former player who was under XP and he's still using it for storage. Everything went well on the initial Setup, we partitioned the loaded Win7 disc of the operating system, no problem at all. We can see the XP disk in the boot menu, but when it is connected on Win7, it cannot see the other drive to transfer files.

It is a situation where we have to dual-boot, or do we just boot from the XP disc and set permissions for sharing? I tried to read a bunch of different articles but could not come through all that corresponded to my need. I can't just understand why he would see the drive in the boot menu, but we cannot see at all by Win7 disk.

    Thanks for your time,

    Dylan

    * edit: check spelling

Verify that the disk is present in Device Manager, then go to disk management and assign a drive letter to the drive.

You will probably have to take possession of the car. In Explorer Windows, right click on the drive, select Properties, then security and give the username corresponding total control of the order.

  • Dell PowerEdge 2950, ESXi 4.0, doesn't have a hard drive

    Hi all

I just joined the forum for posting this, I could not find anything about my question really and I hope you can help.

I have a Dell PE2950 with ESXi 4.0 and six 500 GB drives. A VM guest that resides on the host is our domain controller. I'm not sure of the RAID of the ESX Server configuration because there is no Server Setup, must understand this soon. One of the hard drives failed, is showing a yellow light on the sled by car and vSphere said in his papers.

    Issues related to the:

    1. I'm looking for something tangible on the best way to do so; best practices article kb article, forum posts. We should hot swap the drive as is? Stop all servers first? First migrate the servers to another server ESXi?

2 is it possible to know which level of RAID is configured for vSphere?

    Thank you!

  • problems with reinstalling xp pro on replacement hard drive

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 purchased in 2005. I am trying to replace the old hard drive (SATA, WD, 250 G) with a similar (same room, only 500 G). After many difficulties, I had a bootable CD and was able to start with the new drive in, and I started to reinstall XP. But halfway through, he started to say various files were missing, and the installation worked properly - XP starts to load, then a get a blue screen and error message.

Has been the problem with the partition of the drive? With the file system? With missing controllers?

A reinstallation is possible with the Dell XP?

There a better way to do it, by copying the old disk to the new disk image? Which copy on XP properly?

I have spent hours on this problem so far and would welcome any advice.

Several people seem to have had similar problems, but do not know if they are exactly the same questions.

    Thank you
