Dell/VMware questions

Hey all,.

First post, so be nice :)

I have inherited an ESXi environment and get familiar with how it works.   I just had a new delivered r.620 and after that start he realized he had installed 4.1 VSphere.     So I downloaded the ISO 5.1 Dell site and installed, everything is fine (no VM on it yet, but it starts and I can connect etc.).

Now, I noticed it is released for the 5.1 Update1.   My question is, should I download the Dell specific 5.1.1 ISO and reinstall?  Is there a way I can just put on U1 on top of what I have?    If so, does the U1 has to come from Dell or I get VMware?

Thank you

Bush,

If you follow this link it will show you several procedures on the different update methods.

I have read the information you with a previous customer about the C6100 and found very useful.  I was wondering if you could answer more questions for me.

I'm considering the purchase of one of them.  My goal is going to be different, then what's next for.  I would like to build 4 separate systems into a single box.  Is this possible?

I read that in order to install operating systems, only the on-board intel ICH10 would not work. To do this, I need get the raid card to divide. My next question is, how much can RAID mezzanine cards I put in the C6100 Dell?  I read, can't remember where, that the c6100 is home to only 2 mezzanines RAID cards?  Is this true?

    Thanks in advance

Hi, if there is one installed Mezz propably the LSI 2008 Mezz. You cannot use the ICH10. It has a different internal wiring.

With this configuration, you can run individual nodes.

Please be aware, the systems, the offers of the seller are service @ Dell or a Dell Data Center Solution broker system that runs for a long time. So please check the servicetag with your local support first, before buying the system.

  • new to vmware - question

Hi all, I'm new to VMWare and you want to ask a silly question. My project plans to use vmware on a single physical server running windows 2003 to implement multiple instances of servers windows 2003 virtual. My question is what do we need to have different IP address and host name for each server virtual windows? Or vmware manages to solve this problem itself? If so, how does this work?

    Thank you!

guys, thanks for your reply... as you said, we need differernt IP addresses for each server, which makes it easy for us becase that means that we must go through a long process to the commission, the servers with the new ip address...

If you had multiple physical servers, you will need to go through the same exact process. How many servers you plan giving each server an IP address is a big problem? VMWare removes just your need more physical servers, what you do with the guest computers is pretty much unchanged.

  • Basic VMWare question

    Hello, people:

Please forgive my very basic questions, but I'm totally new to VMWare.

    Yes, as a R & S Cisco engineer, I worked with server

specialists to get their online environments, but my focus was on the

network component, from the access layer.

Anyway, when you create a virtual machine and associate a request,

This virtual machine has an IP address assigned to its own vNIC?  So, if it

5 virtual machines run on a physical server, the number of addresses IP are you going

have? How the allocation of an IP address of the physical NETWORK adapter is bound to the

    others?

Once again, thank you for your help in advance.

Take a look at the document I linked in the previous post.

The virtual network is based on vSwitch which are "dummy" brigde.

So has each VM's own MAC address (which is virtual and the part of the seller is dedicated to VMware).

A physical NETWORK card is simply an uplink to the physical switch and the physical MAC address is generally not used and not visible in your network traffic or your ARP table (think a unmaged switch, it can have a MAC address, but you don't see it on your network).

When you have several (more than one bear on a vSwitch) uplink you can have different types of team policy.

(For you is probably the simplest to understand) is like the etherchannel on Cisco switches (and it takes a good configuration of the physical switch).

  • Is the PowerEdge R610 Compatible DELL VMware ESXi 5.1 update 1 recovery Image?

    Hi all

Does anyone know if the R610 is compatible with the recovery Image VMware ESXi 5.1 update 1? It is not on the compatibility list, but the r.620 is there. We use two servers in our VMWare environment and I want to upgrade to 5.1 U1.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Lee,.

The long wait has its result.

Seems that it's a typo. Engineering has responded that it is supported.

  • Another factory Dell Restore Question

    Hello

I have a dell xps l702x. I have upgraded to Windows 8 and needed to do a factory restore.

So I reinstalled WIndows 7 manually with the Dell installation disk. I this point I still have the dell recovery partition and the image file still exists.

Now I try F8 > Advanced Boot Option > repair, the Dell Datasafe option restore an emergency backup and does not appear.

I guess something must be installed to add this option in the windows recovery options. No idea what it is?

Again, the restore partition is always and never was affected.

    Thank you.

If an operating system has been installed manually or modified system partitions that the recovery partition is no longer works, and does not appear in the F8 menu.

  • Samsung and Dell monitor questions

    Hello:
I had a given PC new and works fine, but when I hooked up with monitor with Samsung, a floating message popping up in the middle of the screen... "Not optimum mode, recommended 1280 x 1024 60 Hz Mode" and the screen empties a few minutes later. When I tested with another monitor with Dell, there are no floating message and gets a good quality screen that shows the Dell monitor is compatible not compatible Samsung to PC refurbished.

Monitor Samsung was hooked with two different PC KVM switch, and no problem with them.

Is there a way for me to do the given PC replacement compatible with monitors, "Dell" and "Samsung"?

Thanks for any help in advance.

"" floating"message popping up in the middle of the screen"

    "Not optimum mode, recommended 1280 x 1024 60 Hz Mode '"

Your Samsung monitor is a type of format of 4:3 image, that's why she asked '1280 x 1024 60 Hz '.

Your video card is NOT defined for it. How to change the settings:

    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/256-screen-refresh-rate-display-settings.html

See above with the Dell connected monitor. Set it to 1280 x 1024 at 60 Hz, and then connect the Samsung monitor and see what happens...

Type of form factor small PC are not the easiest machines to be upgraded, especially regarding video cards. I wouldn't go this way if I were you...

  • Reference Dell 2209WA questions

I was given a Dell 2209WA monitor a few days ago. And I'm having a few problems. On the one hand, if I plug a vga cable through my computers DVI (with a DVI - VGA) adapter port, the monitor works fine. If I try right DVI, I get no fArrondi of VGA cable. I installed the drivers for the monitor, and it shows in my Windows 7 install x 6 Dell 2209WA - Analog.  I prefer to use the digital configuration.

In addition, in agalog, all the controls are locked, I can't change anything. Is it possible to unlock these controls in analog mode? I also couldn't find the serial number anywhere on the screen.

    Hi Cbx_sympamandu93,

Please check the picture below to locate the bar code data plate and the regulatory label on the monitor. This monitor has no serial number. Service tag is usually available for the monitors that are 24 inches and above in size. For more information, please consult the FAQ of monitors: http://dell.to/W7nRu0

In addition, it seems that the OSD Menu on the screen is locked because of which you are not able to change the display of monitor settings. The menu lock allows you to control access to the settings. When you select Lock, no user adjustments are allowed.

Please follow these steps to unlock the OSD Menu:

Press and hold the Menu button for 10-15 seconds to unlock. If this does not work, try the following steps:

    • Press Menu OSD button.
    • Access the option "other settings".
    • Below, select the "Menu Lock" option to the right and select 'Unlock'
    • Now, the Menu OSD is unlocked and you can change the settings of the monitor.

Once you have followed the steps above, it is likely to work the way you want. You can also consult the manual for the monitor that has its complete installation and usage guide according to what you can make changes and setup the screen or using the cable VGA or DVI from this link: http://bit.ly/WdQpY0

Please come back for any clarification.

  • New Dell owner questions

I received my new Dell laptop a few weeks ago. I can't figure out how to get a picture in an image. Any tips?

The resolution that supports all the features of Windows 8, including the multitasking with the snap, is 1366 x 768. So, it seems that Snap is disabled for you.

Click on the link I gave you earlier to activate for your screen, then using the two links I gave you above, see if you can make it work. Don't know what it would look like on a screen of 1600 x 900, however.

  • Dell PC restore error message

    Hi all

I had problems with my Dell Dimensions 5150 Windows XP desktop. I find the PC Restore by going Ctrl F11. As I ran it I got the restoration of failure error message please click on restart to restart. When I did that I now can no longer access my files, I just get the error message
Loading PBR for descriptor 2... fact.
Playing a disc error has occurred
Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart
Whenever I do this, I get the same error message.
Anyone have any ideas of what I can do?
Thanks a lot waiting for a help
    Andrew

the new error message is the result of trying to install the old software starting the restore disc, using the f11 key.

Although the process has been a failure, he changed probably changed the dma setting on the hard drive, where the error it produces now.

what you can do is to transfer this question on the forums of dell.com because there will be experts dell answering questions there.    I think that the hotfix changes the hard drive in your dell read udma (zero) instead of dma bios.

In addition to repost your question in the dell forums, you may also be able to use the following syntax:

    http://www.Paragon-Software.com/home/RK-express/

    and or follow these steps:

You can probably remove the hard drive from the computer and then install it on a working computer as a secondary drive.

Then, you can use this functional computer and the o.s. to extract your files out of it.

also, if by chance you were trying to fix an unstable system of files using the factory restore procedure, then you can run a disk drive to check hard disk via the functional computer, which undertakes to repair the file system unstable.

  • Need to backup data before restoring my computer with the dell factory restore?

I experienced some problems with windows so I thought to use the system to dell factory restore.
I have actually three drives 1 is for the n other operating system is for my personal data n the last of them is the recovery partition. And now if I want to restore what should I back up my data on the drive that is not involved with the operating system?
Would there be any deletion of my D drive (not used in the operating system)?
Should I have to backup the personal drive (drive D)?
Or should I just format my C drive (with operating system) and data must be assigned on drive D (personal car)?

You should always back up data.

Dell, ask questions about their recovery process.
Their recovery process will be how you bought, with two only the main road and the recovery partition; but not your data partition

Read the info here on how to use the Dell recovery options:

    Dell recovery options:
