Detection of USB 2

Hello.

I have a USB device plugged into my PC. He appears as a serial port in Labview. The thing is, it is a USB2 device. If connected to a port of USB1, it will not work properly. Is it possible that I can tell what kind of port, this device is plugged?

Cheers, Alec

At the application layer, you have that information. As far as LabVIEW is concerned, he sees a serial port. He doesn't know how he got there. I suspect that the information you are looking for could be collected of devcon, you can call Exec System and then analyze the results.

    Separated from this thread.

I have this problem on a Panasonic F1 - GZ Toughpad. It has a USB 3 port. It has 8 GB of memory, less than half used and it works my a request.

The USB device is a FTDI USB KEY. This is a feature of full speed USB 2 (12 MB/s) according to the data sheet.

When I plug a FTDI USB - KEY, it takes several seconds to detect the USB STICK. Also, it takes several seconds to detect when the USB STICK is disconnected.

However, when I plug in a hub USB, plug the USB STICK in the hub, the detection is less than a second and the detection to be disconnected is less than a second.

I can't use a USB hub as a work-around, because it is a portable application. Perhaps some of you could use a hub as a workaround. ... If someone has an answer to reduce response time, please let me know.

The problem was solved by changing the parameters of the Toughpad BIOS for USB 3.0 to 2.0. Now the Toughpad detects the FTDI USB KEY in<1>

Please note in the previous post, the USB hub is powered and the FTDI USB KEY is not memory flash, it's a serial USB port with a serial number, but only the serial number is available.

  • USB 3.0 detected as USB 2.0 hub

I want to add USB 3.0 ports to my laptop (Dell 1545, running Win7 with all available updates).

I installed a Renesas ExpressCard with two USB 3.0 ports.  This map features well uses the drivers of Renesas that accompanies it.  The Device Manager lists as a hub USB 3.0, and several external HDs that have USB 3.0 interfaces work fine when plugged in it.

Now, I need to have more USB 3.0 ports available on this laptop for other equipment.

To do this, I bought an external USB 3.0 hub generic (unknown manufacturer, 7 switch ports and a power adapter which provides 5V @ 2A power supply by bus).

No drivers have been provided with the hub, in fact, it has been announced as not requiring any because Win7 had already installed the necessary drivers.

I plugged the external hub in one of the ports of the ExpressCard and Win7 has recognized, but only as a USB 2.0 hub.  All devices I've tried on the external hub worked OK, but only at USB 2.0 speed.  Device Manager displays the Renesas USB 2.0 external hub as a hub, and it uses the same driver (Renesas v3.0.16.0) as the ExpressCard.  When you try to update the driver, Win7 says it's the best driver available.  I've considered uninstalling the driver of Renesas and tries to install a driver Win7, but I don't know if it works or if it would affect the ExpressCard.

If anyone has any ideas on this, I would appreciate hearing them.

    Jerry

    Hi Jerry,

This problem may occur because of conflicts between the towing devices (Renesas ExpressCard and Generic USB 3.0 external hub). It could also be a USB 3.0 adapter generic defective as external devices detect USB 3.0 when it is connected to the ExpressCard of Renesas, in which, they are not connected to the generic adapter.

To learn more about the issue, I you suggest to disconnect the ExpressCard Renesas and then connect the Generic USB adapter only on the computer. Make sure these devices are getting detected as USB 3.0 device. In addition, when you connect the USB adapter to the expresscard, make sure that you have connected to the USB 3.0, rather than a USB 2.0 port. If the problem persists always, so, you can contact the manufacturer of the Generic USB adapter.

  • Updating ESX 3i 5 - how add/detect a USB external storage on the host drive

I guess that this has been asked several times in the past, but I can't seem to get this to work for me.  All I want to do is use this USB external drive to back up files hard find in my volume of "datastore1".  I would like to implement a script, or even do it manually, where I tell you about my ESXi host just copy the files in VMFS volume in the external USB storage drive.

My physical server is a Dell PowerEdge 2950, and it uses ESX 3i update 5.  I use a 250 GB Maxtor One Touch II USB external storage device, and it has been formatted with NTFS.

Currently, I don't even know the controls able to detect this USB device.   I read only so that my drive to be recognized by the host, it must be ext3 or FAT32.  NTFS would be 'read only '.  I was hoping I could format the external drive through the ESXi (by command line), but maybe I'm deceiving myself.

    Thanks in advance

I'm sorry to say that you are trying is not possible - external USB are not usable by ESXi or ESX =

  • SetPanelAttribute blocks the detection of USB devices

I'm developing an application for 2010 LabWindows that reads and writes to a Board of material via a USB connection.  The program Initializes the interface at startup by calling InstallWinMsgCallback to detect WM_DEVICECHANGE messages to the main panel.  The callback receives the WM_DEVICECHANGE message and detects if power has been turned on or off on the Board of directors by seeking wParam == DBT_DEVICEARRIVAL (powered) or DBT_DEVICEREMOVECOMPLETE (off).  Device in lParam information is used to configure the jury.  The recall also receives messages with wParam WM_DEVICECHANGE is DBT_DEVNODES_CHANGED, but does not account for these.

Our application can be controlled by the user or a server program "automation."  When Automation is enabled, the application disables input on the main panel.

The problem I see is that when some attributes of the main panel are set to false (including ATTR_MOVABLE and ATTR_CLOSE_ITEM_VISIBLE), the USB interface crashes.  The accident is indicated by a another message is posted on the recall with a message of 1004 (hex 3EC) ID, even if InstallWinMsgCallback has never been called with this message ID.  Once the accident happens, the program no longer detects when the power to the Board of Directors is enabled or disabled.  The reminder will always receive messages DBT_DEVNODES_CHANGED when the Board is powered on or off, but not DBT_DEVICEARRIVAL or DBT_DEVICEREMOVECOMPLETE.

I looked for more information on the meaning of the error code 1004 on various sites from this list WM_xxx message opcodes, but this code is not listed.  I also noticed that after the crash, the program will always continue to process all messages for other USB devices - for example, if I plug a portable USB drive into the port on the PC.  Only the material Commission detection is affected.

Does anyone have an idea what could be the cause?

    Rich Ferrara

    Rich,
After looking at your code, I think that the mistake may be connected to the call of InstallWinMsgCallback(), then manipulating the Panel message related to recall.

If you manipulate the Panel by changing its attributes, I think you have to call RemoveWinMsgCallback() to remove the handler and then call InstallWinMsgCallback() to reactivate. Please try to modify the code to remove and install the callback when the manipulation of the appearance of the window.

This may not affect you, but in the documentation of the function InstallWinMsgCallback(), it says "a message callback cannot be installed for a child of LabWindows/CVI group."

  • Reliable detection of USB-6210

I have a 6210 USB that I use on a HP laptop. If the USB-6210 is plugged into the laptop at the start, the USB-6210 is not detected by MAX and is unusable.

If I unplug the unit, the beeps of the computer (the usual beep when you unplug a USB device) and plug in again, the computer will beep again, but the USB-6210 is not always detected by MAX.

If I wait until the computer starts before connecting the USB-6210, then it works OK. On two other identical laptops (purchased at the same time, the identical devices and software), the USB-6210 works well if it is plugged in before or after startup, so there is something different about this laptop in particular, but I don't know what.

    Any suggestions?

  • My USB 2.0 does not detect the USB keys or external hard drives

I attach my USB mouse and it works fine but I can't detect my external hard drive or memory key USB. Why?

Try plugging a storage drive (external hard drive or USB key) and go to:
Control Panel-> administration-> computer management tools
Under, click on storage disk management
The storage drive appears in the list at the bottom right? If so, can you do a right click on it and select change drive letter and paths, and assign a drive letter.
It will now appear in desktop and when you plug it in.

If the drive does not appear in disk management, can you just tell me if it's a USB port specific, that you are having problems or if readers do not appear in one of your USB slots and also if you tried the discs in another system to make sure that they highlighted it?

  • Boot failure when you attempt to auto detect the USB mass storage devices

I have two USB mass storage devices.  The sizes are 320 GB and a to.  I had problems at the start to automatically detect a storage device.  After reaching the Office I can usually unplugg the 320 device, reconnect, Windows detects the device.

August 10, I bought an an external HDD TB to start the backup of my entire C: drive operations.  I rebooted automatically while watching a DVD tonight.  I rebooted the PC and hanged when executing start-up procedure notice of automatic detection procedures.  I held the Start button to shut off the PC. I unplugged the external hard drive, PC rebooted. Start continued without external devices.  I reconnected it the external hard drive upon arriving at the office.

The purchase of an external hard drive, see the same issue using the smallest disk, tells me that the error is in the operating system.

    Hi Troy382438,

    1. is this startup crashes before windows loads?

    2. you have SP2 installed on your computer?

If windows hangs at the POST (Power-on-self-test), you may need to update the drivers from the motherboard.

If windows crashes after windows loads, you can try the following steps.

    Step 1

Install SP2 if it is not installed.
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/935791

    Step 2

Run a SFC (System File Checker) scan.

  • My computer has problems detecting the USB cords.

As applications for title, my computer can detect things that I rarely connect into it. When I got to my new iPod touch 3 years ago, my computer it confused for a Kodak camera. I don't remember how I managed to finally recognize my iPod, but it does also with other things that I try to use. As my friend for example hard drive, it works perfectly well on his computer, but when hook us up on mine, my computer gives power to the light, but will not be displayed on my desktop. My keyboard also uses a USB cable, which only works in the USB slots at the front, because in the rear slots, my keyboard only works for about a week before he refuses to work for me and then I have to pass to the slot machines. Is there something wrong with my connection I can fix it?

Try to buy a USB hub powered (one that plugs into your computer for its USB connection and which has also the power to the USB ports to plug into the extra wall) and see if that helps.  Some computers provide the power to the USB ports and this can cause problems with the devices.
