Determine the vCenter management host

Is it possible with PowerCLI / PowerShell to query a host and have it return the address IP (or name) of the vCenter which is manageing that host?

version 5.0 of vCenter

ESX (i) version 5.0

PowerCLI version 5

Thank you

Hello, DrewK201110141-

I think that you are looking for the ManagementServerIp of the ESXi host object property.  By the API to this hyperlink reference, this property contains the 'IP address of the VirtualCenter Server manage this host, if necessary'.  A couple of other responses here were heading to the server to which you connected with your session PowerCLI, but you want the vCenter server, which currently manages the host gave (as appropriate), it seems.  If so, you should be able to get this type:

## get the management server IP info (if any) hostsystemsGet-View -ViewType HostSystem -Property Name,Summary.ManagementServerIp | Select Name, @{n="MgmtVCenterIP"; e={$_.Summary.ManagementServerIP}}

The output should be something like:

Name MgmtVCenterIP
---- -------------
myESXiHost 192.0.0.31

If you are connected to a vCenter server, which should return the info for all HostSystems said in the that vCenter inventory.  Or, if you're connected directly to a host, it will be back to the host only one information.  How do I?

I'm surprised companies still use XP. My old school already spent 8.

In fact, if you are having problems with the addon/extension, you'd better wide asking the developer about it, given that Mozilla neither we volunteers don't have nothing to do with the extension works do not. I suggest a Safe Mode to see if this addon is in conflict with by another addon, but I don't want to give you wrong steps.

If you want to try Safe Mode, do not hesitate:

    • Windows/Mac: choose Help > restart with disabled modules
    • Linux: run firefox-safe-mode in the Terminal/Konsole

If Firefox opens fine with no problems, it is probably one of your extensions that is causing the problem. You can reactivate your modules one by one until you find the one that is causing the problem to be re-activated.

  • Determine the capacity of host of a plugin Automation application

Sorry, I tried like crazy looking for an answer to this in the SDK documentation and in this forum.

I have a plugin of automation that works in both 7ish-10 and complete Photoshop CS3/4/5.  However, I want to determine the host application is "capable dynamic object" in order to do things in my code conditionally.

Preferably, I wonder if there is a Boolean property that I can access through some PICA (or other) callbacks to determine if the host can manage dynamic objects.

My current backup is the property of 'keyHostName', but I would like to avoid having to maintain / rely on string comparisons in order to determine whether the host is a dynamic object that is capable.

Found an example at least to determine whether or not the host program's elements in the sample sdk code under: $SDKROOT/samplecode/automation/getter/common/Getter.cpp:185

going to factor out of these goto however.

  • Disconnection of the VCenter ESX host

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.  I have an installation of VMWare VCenter and 4.1 ESX servers.  Periodically, one of my ESX hosts will lose just login to the VCenter server and I need to re-add.  The host still pings, does not actually lose network connectivity or I receive an alert.  I've been searching newspapers with no luck yet.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • Disconnect the Vcenter/Cluster host and addition of new implications of Vcenter.

    All,

We had to rebuild our vcenter on a separate box, because the database on the old one is completely messed up.  Successfully, we have disconnected hosts stand alone and added to the new Vcenter inventory without problem.  We wanted to know if there are problems with HA/DRS power off and disconnect a host of vcenter which is currently in a cluster.  Then add it to the new vcenter to manage.

    Thank you!

    No problem.

Simple disable HA, tie your host for the new Victoria Cross, and then reactivate the cluster functions.

  • Models do not appear on the poster of "hosts and Clusters".

    Hello

I consult my ESX4 host via the vSphere, version 4 client, in the view of "Hosts and Clusters" (I am connected to the vCenter manage my ESX).  I can see under my host all VMs on the host, but none of the models.  I saw the option "Display models in inventory" under the view menu, but it is grayed out.  Is it possible to see the models?

    Thank you

    Ofer

Click on View-> inventory-> models and virtual computers.

You can't see the models in the view host and Cluster.

  • Isolate the vCenter and management host ESXi5.1 of LAN traffic

I would add two Dell switches to an existing installation, create a private management network (192.168.x.x subnet) containing the hosts and vCenter server, so that the management traffic is isolated and in no way dependent on connectivity LAN... for now that the vCenter server and the hosts are on the local network using public IP addresses.

Is this possible with vCenter as vCenter that one IP can be configured and how should we switch be configured to allow access to vCenter from the local network via the web and customer management interface vSphere.

    Thank you very much

    Gary

Facing your audience of LAN?  I think it depends a little bit of what looks like your LAN.  I don't think - you need not NAT your management network.  If you simply use public IPs rather than private to your internal LAN, the answer is no.  I have a client who does this same thing using 191.x.x.x for its internal network.  You try to access your network over the Internet?  It would be a different matter, and I recommend that to consult a competent network engineer.

In short, just because you go to a public IP address range a private range of IP addresses does not mean you need to NAT.  You see NAT several times when these IP address ranges are used because they are intended.  For example, a company has a single public IP address assigned.  It uses private in its local network IP addresses.  For devices that must leave the LAN and access the Internet, you would NAT because everyone has to share this single public IP.

Without knowing a little more, I think you'd be fine with the standard range or switching (inter - VLAN routing layer 3).

    All the best,

    Mike

  • ESXi hosts are disconnected from the vCenter (5.5)

    Hi all

We have a little problem with our vCenter.

We have two hosts that are connected to the vCenter, unfortunately, they are listed as disconnected.

It seems that the problem are the SSL certificates on ESXi hosts that are no longer valid.

If I replace the old certificates with new ones, that I have to restart the ESXi host, am I right?

    If so, that's the problem.

We do not use any what automatic vMotion and as long as the hosts are not connected to the vCenter I can't manually, move right?

Is it possible to connect hosts to vCenter without SSL?

Sorry for my bad English, I'm not a native speaker.

    See you soon,.

    Johannes

You need to replace the ESXi host SSL certificates.

See the Docs for the replacement of ESXi Cert below.

    ttp://www.BlueBox-Web.com/2013/04/18/replace-ESXi-certificate/

    Documentation Centre of vSphere 5.5

I had regenerate the ESXi 5.5 SSL certificates, which I did without any stop to virtual machines.

Certificate replacement process can change based on the esxi version.

According to the Doc, vSphere 6.0 Documentation Centre ESXi6 host must be rebooted to replace certificates.

Anyway, in current state disconnected, you can try to regenerate the self signed SSL certs, restart management agents and try to reconnect host in vCenter.

  • How to determine the instance for a given entity vSphere vCenter

I often need to generate output or act on entities in vSphere (VM, vSphere clusters, clusters of DTS, etc.) on multiple vCenter instances. I can easily run scripts that will iterate through all the virtual machines after connecting to multiple vCenter instances using Connect-VIServer.  I could not find anything in search of he from Get-Member output. As a result of the way Parent property recursive (show the parent object of get-view-ViewType HostSystem) does not lead on behalf of the vCenter bifurcation. I want to know is if there is a way to determine what bifurcation of vCenter manages a particular entity.

    OR

It's a situation where it is not possible to determine the instance of vCenter, but rather the script must iterate $global: defaultviservers and use the server setting?

Try like this (I only show during a VMHost, but most of the other object must offer the same possibility).

    .Net object #.

    $esx = get-VMHost-name MyEsx

    $esx. Uid.Split(':') [0]. Split('@') [1]

    vSphere object #.

    $esx = get-view ViewType - HostSystem-filter @{'name '=' MyEsx'}

    $esx. Client.ServiceUrl.Split('/') [2]

  • Is there a way to get the list of hosts and its groups of belonging to the vCenter folder level in 5.5 web vsphere client plugin development?

    Hello

I need to get the list of all hosts and its groups of belonging to the vcenter folder level.

    1. I created a view giving the extension point: vsphere.core.folder.monitorViews.

    2. After this step, I wrote the constraint as in my class of mediator,

    var ListConstraint:Constraint =

    QuerySpecUtil.createConstraintForRelationship ( _contextObject, 'childEntity');

I was expecting a list of all child entities such as hosts, dc, cluster... But I have only the immediate child object which is only the Datacenter as my result.

Is it possible to get all hosts and vCenter folder level Clusters because I need the entire list to vCenter (highest level).

    Other info:

Object file has only two properties:

1 childEntity - list of entities

2 childType in-kind folder ('Virtual Machine', 'Data center'...)

Is it possible to write a constraint specifying which list of childEntities I need using childType in.

Example: Make Me childEntities that has a 'Host' and 'Cluster' childType but childType in doesn't have these two types.

In addition, at this level, I could see the 'Associated objects' tab which has all the information I need, such as Clusters and Cluster tab hosts and host tab respectively.

So, I think its possible to get this list to vCenter folder level.

I have attached a screenshot representing the need. Kindly ignore the Conventions of naming in there since I edited the example comes with the sdk program.

    Query:

    1. How can I get the host and Cluster (table of relationship) list to vCenter folder level or even at the level of the vise.global.view?

    2. once I get this list, is it possible for me to manipulate that list and send the new list to IU?

    3. is there another way to do the same thing without the help of model classes and mediator?

Pointers to this will be very useful.

It is not possible to obtain all hosts a folder specific vCenter from a single query Data Manager.  You need to get the list of centers of data first and then get a list of data center hosts.

It is best to make these repeated requests to the java level and return only the list that you want to the user interface.

You can get all the objects in the host of the system with a simple query using a constraint with targetType = 'HostSystem', but you will need to eliminate those from other vCenter servers.  See how this chassis example queries all hosts the Java later in the getHosts() method: samples/chassis-app/chassisRackVSphere-service/src/main/java/com/vmware/samples/chassisRackVSphere/ChassisRackVSphereDataAdapter.java

Another option is to use the vSphere Web Services SDK to browse vCenter. See the vSphere management forum for help on these APIs.  See this plugin of the sample using this SDK

    samples/vsphereviews/vsphere-wssdk-provider/src/main/java/com/vmware/samples/wssdkprovider/VmDataProviderImpl.java

  • If the patch management can be done by VMware Update Manager in vCenter Server Appliance as similar vCenter Server

    Hi friends,

If patches of the host management can be done through Vmware Update manager vCenter Server Appliance as in vCenter Server.

Tell me other differences between them...

    Kind regards

    Sirot Vijay

    1. Yes we can connect to the device using the vSphere client.

    2. in the installation of the update manager VCenter information will ask and he will automatically fit no special measures required.

    3. no conflict. Its just like you have two vCenter servers, but you can not have two server vCenter managing the same hosts.

  • 'Disconnect' a managed host to vCenter Server: practical application?

The vSphere client offers the possibility to "unplug" a managed host to vCenter Server (right-click > disconnect).

I was wondering in what situations it would be used/useful? He influence the virtual machines running on the host? Is "reconnect" everything just like linking to the departure to a new host?

    mudage

Here is what I use the button disconnect to:

I have an old vCenter 4 install with 10 ESXi 4.0 hosts, I now build a vCenter 5.5 system and need to migrate to this vCenter but I can't have all the time.

So, I hit the button disconnect and then add the ESXi 4.0 host in my new vCenter, then at my convenience I then host 4.0 on a host 5.5 vmotion.

I hope this makes sense to you.

    Simon.
