Isolate the vCenter and management host ESXi5.1 of LAN traffic

I would add two Dell switches to an existing installation, create a private management network (192.168.x.x subnet) containing the hosts and vCenter server, so that the management traffic is isolated and in no way dependent on connectivity LAN... for now that the vCenter server and the hosts are on the local network using public IP addresses.

Is this possible with vCenter as vCenter that one IP can be configured and how should we switch be configured to allow access to vCenter from the local network via the web and customer management interface vSphere.

Thank you very much

Gary

Facing your audience of LAN?  I think it depends a little bit of what looks like your LAN.  I don't think - you need not NAT your management network.  If you simply use public IPs rather than private to your internal LAN, the answer is no.  I have a client who does this same thing using 191.x.x.x for its internal network.  You try to access your network over the Internet?  It would be a different matter, and I recommend that to consult a competent network engineer.

In short, just because you go to a public IP address range a private range of IP addresses does not mean you need to NAT.  You see NAT several times when these IP address ranges are used because they are intended.  For example, a company has a single public IP address assigned.  It uses private in its local network IP addresses.  For devices that must leave the LAN and access the Internet, you would NAT because everyone has to share this single public IP.

Without knowing a little more, I think you'd be fine with the standard range or switching (inter - VLAN routing layer 3).

All the best,

Mike

  • Can I share a store of data between vcenter and a host of non-vcenter ESXI?

Is it dangerous to grant access to the free ESXI 'edition' host licensed to an iSCSI LUN that is used by a VCENTER environment, if ESXI versions match? Can the free edition store and run virtual machines, located in the same VMFS data store that contains the virtual used by VCENTER environment computer?

This will work. You can however ensure that vCenter Server and the free hosting service do not attempt to access the same virtual machines at the same time (although file locking should avoid problems). Don't forget the storage features as control e/s may not be able to function properly in such a case, because the free hosts are not under its control.

  • Where the vCenter Operations Manager Enterprise 5.0 download

Not sure if the site confused me or is it just me? I'm looking to download vCenter Operations Manager Enterprise 5.0 as it is called on the Installation and the Configuration Guide.

  • What is the effect of subtracting the vCenter and databases

I have two ESX 3.5.0 u2 SAN connection and a 3.0.2 with disk HARD local only. Regional Norwgian vCenter Server installation, witch has led to problems with the plugin manager update. I have reisntalled the vCenter server on a virtual machine with the English locale, but I used the databese even. I came to the concludes that I have to delete the database and start over. On this topic, I have two questions:

    1:

When I installed the plugin for update management, it has detected the old database update, but I did not choose wipe it and start over for fear that it would also erase the rest of the database. Info from the Setup Wizard outfits seemed a bit fuzzy. The wizard only will reset the database for Update Manager or will it delete everything?

    2:

If I delete the database of the vCenter server completely and uninstall/reinstall the server vCenter Server, what happens for both ESX servers with SAN connection? They have both the virtual of SAN computer running. It will come in any kind of conflict or start writing on each of the other files? Or will they continue with the locks on files they already have and not spoil things? Some of the virtual machine that is running on the ESX servers must not stop or have a disk failure.

    Hello

Yes delete it, the DB update is not a part of vCenter DB. You can install the update on a separate virtual machine Manager if you wish. Have not made myself but have seen a few threds on install on a separate virtual machine. Choose custom installation and provide information about your server vCenter etc.

  • list of all the vm and what host they belong to

Hi, I'm new to powercli & just had a (probably really simple) question.

    When I do something like:

    Get-vmhost-name "hostname" | Get - vm

I get all the VMs on that host, but I only get powerstate, name, num cpu and memory. But if I again through "export-csv" pipes, I get tons more of information. How can I get this info on the command line itself, or better still to filter the columns that I want to see when the piping to the csv format?

My goal was actually to get a list of all vm AND host it that belonged to, using the command get - vm, but I couldn't very well to show me was the information I'm looking for.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello, lm31-

There are several ways you could get the data properties.  You can "select" properties of the object using the Select-Object cmdlet.  So if you want to get a virtual machine and return some properties of choice, you might do something like:

    PS C:\> Get-VM myVM | Select-Object Name,Folder,ProvisionedSpaceGB,NumCpu,MemoryMB

    Name : myVM
    Folder : testVMs
    ProvisionedSpaceGB : 41.01
    NumCpu : 1
    MemoryMB : 2048

A simple example of something that would work for your scenario to get all virtual machines and displaying the name of the host on which they are running:

    PS C:\> Get-VM | Select-Object Name,VMHost

    Name VMHost
    ---- ------
    myVM ourHost0
    myVM1 ourHost1
    ...

Once you get a little more complicated reporting, you will definitely want to use the cmdlet Get-View, for reasons of speed of the script, but for this example, the foregoing will do ok.

  • How change/reset the passwords of admin of the auditor and Manager

I have request Express the listener in a stand-alone installation on Oracle 11 g R2, how do I reset the passwords of Admin and feeder access the listenerAdmin.
    Listener already configured.

Currently when I try to access apex/listenerAdmin I get requests for leave (by default / user/passwords username provided does not work).

    Thank you

    Hello

"The xxxxx in XDB server requires username and password." (if I fill password user XDB) query appears:
"The server at the APEX xxxxx requires username and password"

It sounds like you still have active and configured listener APEX XDB HTTP Server to use the same TCP port. Unfortunately, the listener and Server HTTP XDB APEX use port 8080 by default. Configure a service to use a different port or disable XDB HTTP server completely, if you don't need otherwise, to resolve the conflict of port.
To leave the APEX listener to use a different port, simply start with the apex.port parameter, for example

    java -jar -Dapex.port=8081 apex.war

To change the port of XDBs, you need your user name sys (for example connection with sqlplus under sys as sysdba) and run the corresponding API command, for example

    sqlplus / as sysdba
    exec dbms_xdb.sethttpport(0);
    commit;

where 0 is the value to disable the service completely. Use another port if you rather want to use it and don't want to not use APEX listens on a different port than 8080.

  • Isolate the vMotion and storage traffic?

We use ESXi 5.1 using two physical switches for management traffic and two physical switches for VM and storage vMotion traffic. We use a DVSwitch with VLANS separated for VMs (125), storage (126) and vMotion traffic (127). My question is really about the physical switch setting. I have installation of VLANs, 125, 126 and 127 on my main switch with each of them having a layer 3 interface. I think that only the network of the VM (vlan 125) needs a layer 3 interface. In other words, my VLAN storage and vMotion is not routable by removing the 3 layer interface.

    Does this sound correct?

Another twist, I have a Juniper switch where all layer 3 interfaces are defined. It is connected to 4 switches in the rear of my IBM Bladecenter. Two of these switches are Cisco 1 GB switches that carry all traffic to the management through a vSwitch network. The other two switches are BNT 10 GB switches that carry traffic for Storage vMotion and VMs. Of course, it's a network connection, because it carries several VLANS.

My only question now is should I eliminate interface layer 3 on my storage network located on one vlan separate

Well, you need your storage system accessible on these IP addresses by the systems for the management of the other subnets or such? You already have all traffic from subnet inter between iSCSI and other networks? If this isn't the case, then there is no need to have routable iSCSI network.

For the ESXi hosts themselves there is usually zero reason to have vmkernel iSCSI interfaces be routable since you already do management etc on another routable network (and responses of hosts would be sent there as well except if you define static routes custom).

  • Reliable messaging, attempts of the queue and management of AIA errors

    Hello
I would like some advice on how to best use AIA errors management process in a process that uses the queues.
We have a composite that picks up messages from a queue and executes a particular process on each message. If the errors of process, it preforms a rollback put the message on the queue. It retries then 3 times, possibly succeed in another attempt.
My question is how this process should use error handling infrastructure. We want to see a single error Notification only in the final of new attempt fails. We do not want to be informed for each failure, that we will end up with a lot of unnecessary notifications.
How it should be managed in AIA? Is there a flag located in the message when it's final attempt that the composite can check before sending the notification of the error? Or is used another method?
    Robert

While I can't help you make these decisions, I want to make a final comment on this: it must also ensure not too much engineering workflows. What you describe with the queues, before and after the EBS would be wise in some complex scenarios (and that's why you'll find that the developer of the AIA Guide), but I doubt it's the right plan in each case of use asynchronous integration. This design has apparently more options, but also more code, several components middleware such as queues, so significantly more complexity leading to harder overall maintenance.

The seeds of AIA use these interim queues as well - but only where the use case really required, for example where the orchestration of an order goes through the various stages of treatment. In this scenario, you do not want to be able to resubmit a message that failed each of these persistence points while guaranteeing delivery. For a one-way flow of integration that basically displays a message to application application B wouldn't us usually do.

  • vCenter Server and Manager on the same virtual machine and on the same host ESXi update that they manage

    Hi all

I have a question to which I did not respond.

I have an ESXi 5 on Proliant DL380 G7 server host. I want to install vCenter Server and Manager Update on one of the Server 2008 R2 VM on the same host. I know it's possible, but my question is how Update manager will provide updates to the same ESXi host it will run on? The update is applied every time host must spend in maintenance mode and power off the virtual computer running on this subject which means he'll kill VM where vCenter Server and Update Manager is running and the update will fail right?

Is that possible at all or the VCS and UM such as a virtual computer operating point is updated to other guests if you have them or vMotion as VM to another host when you want to update the VCS and UM host is running?

    Thanks in advance.

It will not work.  You will need at least two hosts.  This way you can vMotion the vCenter VM to another host.  From there, you can use VUM.  Otherwise, you will need to patch the host as a stand-alone host.

See below for patching a standalone host

Oracle stores data in its own logical structure.

    Blocks--> measure--> Segment

Oracle (also known under the name of page) block being the level of granularity where data is stored. To what extent is a collection of blocks.

When you specify the management of the measure, you mean where the allowance/disable-distribution of scopes (Group of blocks) will be managed (whether in the dictionary or using bitmap images).

When you specify the management of space segment, you mean that how will be managed within a block space. Extended management does not control the spatial distribution inside the block.

  • Reindexing the vCenter DB

Hello Paul - I need the clarification on DB size of the vCenter.

We encountered a problem with vCenter, as soon as connect you using the console of VI to vCenter and managed to make the connection, but it crashes and stats 'data recovery' error, to analyze the vpxd connects, we found hotfix KB http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2009918 and we applied the same , successfully, we had fixed it.

And, again, the problem came back, we had used the same KB to fix the problem.

I suspect because of the DB size is huge and the same thing has been said by SQL admin too and my DB vCenter is currently 38 GB where 25 hosts, VMs 110 + 2 or 3 models.

Now, I came with little choice now for fix root and I had some doubts about this

Please see page no. # 57 http://pubs.VMware.com/vSphere-51/topic/com.VMware.ICbase/PDF/vSphere-ESXi-vCenter-Server-51-host-Management-Guide.PDF - I did not put any database as such retention policy. So I intend to keep logs for only 60 days. So, I would choose the task & events held for 60 days. After you apply these settings, it will delete old events and tasks before 60 days immediately or in the future to 60 days would be considered as erase...?

Or by using the purge option will be able to reduce the space and the data retention policy defined as mention in http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1025914

Please suggest on this or if you any other suggestions on reducing the size of the DB in any other way that it helps for me.

    Hello.

See this link for more info on keeping your vCenter DB: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1007453.

Personally, I would ask your admin SQL to set up a maintenance plan to shrink and truncate your database on a regular basis. You'd be surprised what that can do to your performance. Also, make sure that your backup tasks correctly commit logs after a successful backup.
