  applications will be removed.

  But there is never a guarantee; No matter what you do, there is
  always the possibility that something may go wrong and you will lose

You need to give it a name that you will remember. It is an LDIF file. I checked Wikipedia. The file system has been around since the early 1990s. The LDIF file is independent of Windows. Wiki says it's a text file. I opened it in Notepad. I think that you will have no problem. Worst case you can copy and paste the entries in the respective fields there. LDIF type into a Google search field. The Wiki link is there on top.
