Different Types of network adapters for

All,

Can you please point me to a document OR explain what are the different types of network for available cards and what is the difference between them?

I remember there are vlance, PC32, e1000, adapter Vmxnet Enhanced amd... But not all remember.

Thank you

  • Question about the collection of NETWORK adapters for vMotion / VM vSwitch

    Hello

We use vSphere Enterprise Edition 5.1.

We also create separate vSwitch for management / vMotion and VM.

Each vSwitch receives 2 network cards connected to the different switch for redundancy.

We would like to know is necessary to provide the collection of NETWORK adapters for these vSwitches?  Currently, only enable us NIC Teaming for VM vSwitch only.

    Thank you

VSwitch vMotion, we have 2 assigned NIC (nic2 and nic6) with 10 VLANS.  NIC2 and nic6 are connected to 2 different physical switches.

    Should I choose

    (1) both are active

    (2) both are assets + grouping of NETWORK cards?

Question - if there is only 1 VLAN, it seems that NIC Teaming is also not very useful unless we use 2 VLAN (Multi-NIC vMotion).  Is this right?

If you use Multi-NIC vMotion, there is no need to have two different VLANS, all you need is depending on configuration

on your vMotion switch, please create two vmkernel port for vMotion with the same VLAN ID, but the grouping of NETWORK cards as below

    vMotion_1 - VLAN ID: 10

    Grouping of NETWORK cards

    vmnic2 - active

    vmnic6 - watch

    vMotion_2 - VLAN ID: 10

    vmnic6 - active

    vmnic2 - watch

  • Choose a type of network pool for my cloud of assessment

I have implemented a vCloud Director about after the installation of the device in the "assessment" vCloud guide.  This guide assumes that supported VXLAN network pools will be used; Apparently, I didn't switch support for this scenario.  Rather than kind, I want to just my cloud assessment to the top and do work.  With this in mind, I'm trying to understand that an isolated Cloud network will work for me.

    I have:

    (1) a distributed switch

    (2) VLAN and ip address ranges available to me

Looks like it's all I need to succeed; I guess that the vlan is optional, but I will need to specify one of my VLAN, if I understand correctly.  I'm kinda new to these topics of networking, but if ago ever VLAN on the physical layer, I have to specify a network pool, correct?

My main question is about the MTU.  The increase of the MTU is only performance?  I understand that the tunneling information makes the total image bigger than the standard 1500 bytes and that cause the fragmentation, but if this unique performance, then my assessment needs do not require that I do the MTU setting, at least as far as I can see.

    Thoughts?

About fix 1 VLAN 1 ration of network Pool.  Think of it as a way to privatize the multicast traffic that is vCNI (vCloud network isolation)... which is a type of network pool.  For vCNI, I think you get 1000 networks isolated by the pool (which has 1 VLAN).

No IPs really needs don't really exist on this point, since it's all multicast traffic (AFAIK).

MTU is mainly on performance.  If you want to use vCloud network... isolation you can do in the MTU 1500... you create the pool on one VLAN specific (that exist on your network fabric) and once the pool is created... drop the MTU in the properties of the pool of 1476

It depends on what you want to achieve. Fault tolerance, the aggregation?

Take a look at this document from VMware.

If you use your search engine of the day and throw it into the words "VMware ESX" and add circuits or consolidation, there will be some hits on various blogs showing solutions to different hardware (in collaboration with Cisco, HP switches).

This page will also give you an overview of the different types of networking topics virtual.

  • Best practices for the collection of network adapter for network management

    Quote from http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/VMW-Server-WP-BestPractices.pdf :

    Aggregation and network management networks:

To set up a team of network for the management network adapter, configure the network adapters in the vSwitch
configuration of the ESX/ESXi host, for configuration active / standby.

The vSwitch must be configured as follows:
The load balancing • route = based on the original (default) virtual port code
    • Restore = 'No '.
    • vSwitch0: two physical network adapters (for example: vmnic0 & vmnic2)
    • Two groups of ports (for example, vMotion and management)

In this example, the management network works on vSwitch0 as active vmnic0 and watches over vmnic2.
The vMotion network works on vSwitch0 as active vmnic2 and watches over vmnic0.

    My configuration:

The two active adapters (not active / standby)

    Failback = 'Yes '.

Not clear if the network management and vMotion are both active on the same vmnic or different.

    Question:

Is smart enough to keep the network management and vMotion on different vmnic SE to ESXi 4.1 or I should change to active / standby config and make sure they are on different vmnic?

It would make a noticeable difference?

Ah yes, you are right in your configuration then.  I would never mix NIC vendors in any type of trunk, I saw things get funky now and then.  VAAI won't give you an advantage when you do a storage vMotion, normal vMotion will always use the same amount of traffic, because memory cards must always be copied between hosts.  It is advisable to devote at least a card NETWORK management and at least one NETWORK adapter to vMotion, if you can have two vSwitches with two NIC each then I would use explicit order of failover you mentioned.  Hope that helps!

This seems doable with nxsd. In our case, each line seems to be a different record type and you can handle this case with a sequence of elements (one for each record type).

  • vSphere Console screen settings of network adapters

Hi, by ILO to the vSphere config screen one can configure the network adapters for network management, IP, DNS, etc hostname. It is very good for the initial installation.

After you add the vCenter Server network adapters are bound to a distributed switch. After that if an ILO is to vSphere config screen, once more parameters can be played, however maps / NETWORKS VLAN cannot be edited/seen that options are greyed out, while all others can be edited.

If he server is removed from the broadcast switch and disconnected from vCenter is no differencem, including a new start.

Why this happens, and what is the resolution for display network assigned to the network adapters?

    Thank you

A distributed switch is a construction of vCenter - make changes is therefore, outside of the authority of a single host. DCUI configuration settings are mainly there to get an operational host after installation, do not to make changes after that that he has been set up and added to vCenter.

If you choose the option 'restore a standard switch', it will demolish the host from the distributed switch and restore a standard switch of style "vSwitch0' with generic management options. You can then change settings again the DCUI. This is mainly used for troubleshooting.

  • How many network adapters I - ESXi 4.1 with iSCSI

I was wondering if someone could help me give a sense the news I read on # NIC for ESXi 4.1.  I came across the following article, but I'm not sure I understand all parts of traffic that he speaks:

    http://livingonthecloud.blogspot.com/2009/09/ESXi-networking-best-practices.html

At the moment I have 6 cards 1 GB on each of my 3 servers.  I connect to my SAN via iSCSI, so I know I'm going to need at least 2 of these network adapters for that traffic. I know I'll need at least 2 NICs for connection between my ESXi server and my switch to the network of the VM.  What I don't understand is what I really need for the VMKernel FT, VMkernal Vmotion and VMKernal the Network Administration.  I do not plan on using Vmotion very often at all, so I'm not concerned about its impact on my network.

Any advice?  I need to replace my double NICs with Quad NIC card or is it exaggerated?

The management doesn't have a dedicated network card. It can share the network with virtual machines cards.

In this case the following configuration would be interesting:

    vSwitch0: (3 NIC uplinks) (assuming vmnic0, vmnic1 vmnic2)

    Port group 1 - networking (vmnic0 and vmnic1-> active vmnic2,-> stand-by)

    Port group 2 - network of the VM (vmnic0 and vmnic1-> active vmnic2,-> stand-by)

    Port 3 - VM Network Group (vmnic0 and vmnic1-> stand-by, vmnic2-> active)-for the "Pervasive SQL.

    vSwitch1: (1 NIC/uplink)

Port group 1 - VMkernel for vMotion on a separate network (192.168.x.x)

    vSwitch2: (2 cards network/links rising)

configuration by following the best practices of your iSCSI storage provider

In this way the "Pervasive SQL" would have a dedicated NIC (vmnic2) and may switch to another NETWORK card in the event of disruption of the network.

  • Is it normal to have two different types of software on the CC from Adobe?

When I open the CC from Adobe and download my apps, it shows two different types of software. For example, when I look at a version of Photoshop is CS6 and the other is CC. Can I download both and I was wondering if there is a difference between the two? And is it a problem or a bug?

CS6 is an older version of photoshop.  CC is the latest version.

  • During the new installation of xp pro, the program never asked for the product key or what type of network installation.

XP pro ie8 32 bit svc pk 3.

during a new installation http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=44636, most of the steps was OK, however, my product key was not for and type of network was not.

As the third so clean installation I did, do you think the pc is to remember my preferences?

    Thanks for any help.

I think that when you install XP and turn on the first time, Microsoft collects information from your system during this process to develop a signature of material that goes with your license and store it away.  Of course, they do not collect any personal information :)

They do it so that if someone takes your XP installation license and tries to apply it to another computer (it is piracy) that the installation would not activate as your activation must match your hardware.

If someone tried to install and activate your license on another machine with a different set of hardware, MS would say, wait a minute - this license has already been activated on another machine, and he could complain.  Then someone has some ' splaing to do.

I suspect that in your facilities in 2nd and 3rd, MS takes a look at things and said... this material signature and the license already go hand in hand, that nothing has changed here, so it is not necessary to activate again, all right.

This is why, if one day you need to replace your motherboard and reinstall XP, even if you have everything and it's all legitimate, you will probably have to reactivate again since the signing of material would be completely different for this license that MS remembers the first activation.  A few small hardware changes, that you can get away with, but if the number of points collected to compensate for the signing during the initial activation is too different, you will need help activating.

In this case, if things are legitimate, you can call MS activation team, and if you can convince them that there is no hacking involved and you just have to change your motherboard, they work with you to get your reactive stuff.

Since you are looking at AUMHA, they have a writing little upward about it here, but there are official documents of Microsoft you can read also ('points' and how they work):

  • VeriStand "Custom Device" creation, including the different types of sources of code for simulation only

    Hello

Before I ask my questions, I want to describe my problem:

I would use VeriStand on a PXI system for simulation only. The simulation includes different types of sources such as Maltlab-Simulink-models, MultiSim SPICE models and code LabView for FPGAS-programming. Simulink models are available as a dll-file, generated with 'Real-Time-Workshop' and 'Simulation tool Kid. " They need to generate heavy duty, calculated by the modulation of the vector space and model the performance of a special converter. The MultiSim model will be transformed via a special VI in LabView code. I can generate code VeriStand (--> NI VeriStand--> Generate tools...). The PWM duty cycles of this dll matlab above are for LabView FPGA code entry. This will be the entrance of the gate of the tansistors of the MultiSim-model. Means, space vector modulation generates tension of the door and get the FPGA code to the ports of the inverter model.

I am new in programming with VeriStand and LabView. I don't know how I can handle this. But NEITHER says it's possible. So my questions are:

Is it possible to use VeriStand with more than one device Costum and simulate as a whole simulation. How can I associate different files.

If this isn't the case, that I have to build a LabView Vi, where all the different sources of models are included.

Is a walkthough or a user guide available, that I can use to fix my problems.

I hope you can help out me. I need it for my bachelor thesis very fast. Thank you for your attention.

    Best regards Andre

Here is a document describing how to create compiled LabVIEW templates and import them into NI VeriStand:

    http://www.NI.com/white-paper/12785/en

The following link is a more general page describing several model and their support environments in NI VeriStand:

    http://zone.NI.com/DevZone/CDA/EPD/p/ID/6488

Some additional modeling environments are supported, but not necessarily listed here since this is a growing list.  In addition, since NEITHER created a strategy of open model interface called NI VeriStand model framework, it would be possible to connect new types of sources of model in NI VeriStand without too much work.  Then the mapping tool, you found, makes the magic of easily to configure the connections of logical data between models.  You can also easily transfer each model to the individual processor cores, which contributes to the speed of calculation for system-level simulations.
