  After Effects CS5 requires a 64-bit processor and a 64-bit operating system. There is no work around this fact.

  Sarah - I dsl which is at the lower end of DSL speed and I can tell you that I sometimes have problems download from the HP site.  The HP software is quite 'bulky' and/or 'intense' (I have no other way to describe it).  If it gets interrupted it usually leaves.  My guess is that it's your connection mobile broadband is not not a connection permanently at times causing the interruption.  If you have no regular internet type, try to go to a mobile hotspot that is free in a city near you or a store that offers for free (Panera, McDonalds, Starbucks, etc.) and download the file from there.  Make sure your firewall is active and security to prevent unauthorized entry into your computer during download.

  Official sure checksums of installers via a secure authenticated channel of editing would be as good, but I couldn't find those anywhere, either. A Google search for the real SHA1 of the executable file that I received (54fd10c7d36895469f6bfb1cd01ec04a633f8c5d for "AdobeReaderInstaller_11_en_ltrosxd_aaa_aih.dmg") had no hits, suggesting official control totals were not prominently advertised.

  Auto-update to Adobe mechanisms must be stowed by crypto against tampering in transit, right? Why isn't the initial download?
