dimmed folder "Apply to all folders" view

For some reason any default folder view changed something I certainly won't.  However, when I go to "Folder Options" to change the display by default, the option "apply to all folders" is grayed out.

Why is this?  How can I change the display of files by default to what I want?

Thank you.

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft community! You have reached the right forum for your question.

Method 1
I suggest you try the steps from the following link:

Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

Method 2
I suggest you perform the clean boot and check if the problem persists.

When I started using Windows Live Mail, I am sure that everything was OK. I have 4 email addresses and when I started ' Customize I'm went to SEE, COLUMNS and adjusted to the order of the columns and to check the column or not. If I'm creating the Inbox of course I want 'FROM' but not 'To' as it is me. If I'm creating for "SENT" I want 'TO' but not 'FROM' for similar reasons. My problem is that when I put in a category, it seems to apply to all categories. What I am doing wrong?

  • Outlook Express sent folder keeps empty ALL my e-mail sent. Help!

Hello - in the last month that my sent folder Outlook Express has been completely emptied twice. It is NOT something that I have reaquested, nor is it something that would be easily done accidentally, once again twice. I got emails dating back years. I noticed that my Outlook Express has become a newer or different, as well. If I create a new email I now have tabs down to offering Edit, Source and preview. I HOPE someone knows what's going on, and if the former sent is stored somewhere and can be restored. In addition, I want to stop happening. I am grateful for the assistance of those in the know! If possible, please answer to the * address email is removed from the privacy * thank you!

You leave records their capacity cantilever.

    General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=903095

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. • OE6 do appears not all folders

OE6 shows not all folders that I created. I had to force a reboot when the PC hung during the compaction of OE. The "Inbox" folder has been restored, but some files are missing. I removed the "Folders.dbx" file to force the creation of a new "Folder.dbx" file, but only files beginning with the letters 'A' through 'P' are found/generated. How can I get the remaining to be recognized and listed in OE6 files?

Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

    Why mail disappears:
    http://www.insideoe.com/problems/bugs.htm#mailgone

    Recovery methods:

If you use XP/SP2 or SP3, and are fully patched, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

  • Why has my Inbox & all folders in OE6 disappeared today?

I am completely current with my NAV updates/weekly scans, monthly checkdisk and defrag so I doubt that's the issue.  It was working fine this morning & then all of a sudden, the Inbox disappeared from the Outlook bar & when I tried to check other folders that I created within the Inbox, they disappeared as well.  I do not understand why this happens all of a sudden.  I'm always very careful and do not open emails that I recognize so I BLOCK them before opening a.  If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please be as specific as possible with your instructions or I'll lose me.  Thank you very much.

View | Page layout. Checking: Folder list. All records other than the default folders are missing?

    There are two possibilities:

    1. A new OE identity was created.
    2. The entire OE message store was wiped out. Analysis of e-mail can cause this.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Do you see a second identity with another OE folder? It contains the missing files? If Yes, note the location and in OE: file | Import Messages. Follow the prompts and import from this location.

If there is not a second identity, your message store is gone.
