Disable the translucency of the taskbar

I thought that Microsoft has removed all the effects aero for Windows 8. Yet, my taskbar is translucent, and there is no control to change. Is there a way to fix this?

No, they have turned most of transparency but the Aero engine (DWM, Desktop Window Manager) is still there and it is consumed in all the new graphics graphics accelerated, smooth transitions and more.

Transparency in the taskbar is still there to leave some to shine your wallpaper through.  Is that the artist has designed the style, and there is no current option to change it.

But you can always change it if you wish, using the theme "Aero Lite", which is installed and included in your system files, but not you present by default.  You can see the details on who and how to use it here: http://www.windows8core.com/how-to-enableget-aerolite-theme-with-black-borders-in-windows-8-rtm-tutorial/

Original title: turning off the features of the taskbar

First of all, I try to find the language to describe the problem and am having some problems finding even screenshots and the names of the taskbar functions that I am referring. It would be useful to exremely if Microsoft coul name and give each part of Windows n screeen screens shots.

When I move my mouse over a system tray icon, several improved features come into play. I can find references to jump lists and how to control them and previes and how to control them. I have not yet found a name description or window porper list of open applications that appears when the mouse pointer hovers over a system tray icon. For example, if I have 10 copies of Internet Explorer open, a list of ALL existing open Solution Explorer and their titles of search bar. Without knowing the name of this window, it is difficult to ask the question - it would be useful to have a tool pointer "what is it?" to name a windows object and its properties.

The problem with this list, which is the only option in the list to select one of the cases listed in the request. There is no function to close the list, or an easy path to keep the list of popping up. I guess that Microsoft appears to be an extremely useful tool that they think to include personalization and the user of the control functions.

To me, they are exceptionally intrusive and severely interrupt the flow of work. I have absolutely no use for lists. I often 20 or multiple instances of Internet Explorer or other applications open at the same time. When one of these lists appear, it can substantially cover the workspace. These list windows are designed to be sticky or persistent - so that they can stay open for long periods of time. If they pop up open over an application (for example, Access or Excel), and then the data entry fields are not accessible until the window disappears.

The problem is made more difficult by the working environment. I do much of my work on a laptop on a couch, rather than on a desktop computer. And the task bar has been set at 4 layers deep. The result is that when I take the mouse to the keyboard, there are often a few slippages. When the pointer slips through the icons, it evokes these boring lists and interruption of work. I am enter in hundreds of thousands of updated data in day, and blocking access to the data entry fields so is impacting productivity.

I need a way to disable this feature completely and not a hack who sets the time. A time delay function works to a certain extent, but if I type for a prolonged period of time, the mouse pointer will slide, place the cursor on an icon and lead the list pop-up window.

This need to avoid a hack is something that Microsoft must examine more closely. Is only the appropriate forum, but I'll take him anyway, I don't know if Excel 2010 solves this problem, but I had a technical problem with Excel since the beginning. As this issue of the task bar, it seems to come from the programming of assumptions about the uses of the software and uses functions has some "labor saving" which makes it difficult for users who have the least frequent.

Maybe I'm just obtuse, and it's clear, simple solution or option. Any suggestions?

Go in view > toolbars > Navigation toolbar.

If your Menu bar is not visible, press ALT or F10 from your keyboard to make the Menu bar temporarily visible. If you want it to be visible at all times, go in view > toolbars > Menu bar, or right click on the Navigation bar (for example, the Reload button), and then select menu bar.

    Hi RicardoMC,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

From the description of the problem, I can understand that you need more information on disabling the taskbar thumbnails.

Windows 7 does not include a graphical (GUI) User Interface to disable taskbar thumbnail preview.

The only option that comes pretty close to turning off the feature is by modifying the registry settings. Check out the following link and check if this helps you to disable the taskbar thumbnails.

  • How to disable the ToolTips while you item Hover mouse over a taskbar...

OK this question is clearly asking how to disable or delete ToolTips and not the ones int the browser but other places like the taskbar, for example. you hover over low start and it says start or a brooch exe scrap cuts and it displays the names for the date and time of it... over and it shows time and date which is really annoying... Why piont on evidence... ToolTips... anyone gets you t use any OS would be irritated by ToolTips... Imagine that you will turn on your TV and it displays a ToolTip saying tv you watch news with it... then you go sitting on a couch, an another ToolTip pops up saying sofa sit it people... common ot... Please MAKE DISAPPEAR... not the tooltips of the Explorer, but any other ToolTips for example the ToolTips of the taskbar...

Here an article with a procedure to disable ToolTips in Windows (not just the taskbar). http://www.windowsreference.com/windows-xp/how-to-enabledisable-tooltips-in-windows/.  It is a modification of the registry, so you must first create a point in http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/create-a-restore-point-for-windows-vistas-system-restore/ restoration system AND back up the registry http://www.adamsdvds.co.uk/tutorials/vista/regedit/backup.php.  I could find no way to hell for all the different programs and features individually using ToolTips - they do not seem to be controlled in this way, even in the registry.

I don't know if this will also affect Internet Explorer (it might).  If so, I know no way to activate it just for IE.  If you prefer to have them everywhere (including taskbars) than losing them in IE (and), then repeat the procedure but use a value of 1 instead of 0 to restore tooltips - or just don't do it in the first place.  The decision is yours.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Volume icon missing and disabled in the taskbar properties

I noticed my icons for volume and network of the taskbar for a week and finally decided to try to repair. I checked the properties of the taskbar and found volume and network selections have been disabled. Any advice on how to reactivate these icons? I have Vista and I am currently on updates.

Note: Use the method two or three depending on what version of Vista you have.
Whe finished, restart (close and turn it back on).
Now after restarting, go to the taskbar of routine properties and click on these missing icons.

  • How can I disable the ToolTip on the icons in the taskbar?

The question is quite simple, but the resolution is not.
I wonder if really power disable or delete, perhaps even delay so-called tooltip on the icons in the taskbar.
Note that I don't know of the ToolTip in general, but only those that appear in the task bar when the mouse on them.
Note also that I speak not of the miniature, which I also already have successfully disabled.
Now, I'll give you a picture to describe my problem more in detail.

    Hello

There has been several conversations here on this topic in recent years.  Unfortunately, there is no way to disable tooltips or change their timeout value - they are hard coded in the operating system.  Ironically, this was done as an effort to try to reduce the visible distraction (such as bubbles of Notifications being allowed to stay) for a time/frequency max.
That said, I encourage you to submit feedback page so Microsoft Gets the slot a form they are followed and can incorporate in future versions:
  • How to disable the left Alt key as the taskbar pop-ups when you try to play the game then press the left Alt key

Original title: left disabling Alt Taskbar pop-up Menu window

    Hello

I have problems with the taskbar. Every time I tap my left Alt key twice, then left Alt + (1-6) a context menu appears. It's the same thing as right click a tab on your taskbar for anyone who is struggling to recreate my problem. Right Alt does not cause this problem.

It is very bad news for me as the focus of changes in context menu of what I do. I play video games in my free time and have game left keybinds for Alt + 1,2 & 3. I will support on these keybinds quickly all while playing. This will cause the context menu for taskbar activate and I'll be tabbed out of my game.

I searched for weeks trying to solve this problem and I have not found any that is worked. I tried to disable the jump lists. I tried to change the registry for a right click on the taskbar. I saw patches of this forum and several others and nothing I found works.

Recently, I contacted Microsoft to the it Department by phone and said they knew exactly how to fix this and if I have to pay $50 to one of their technicians have to connect to my computer that they would have this problem corrected in the blink of an eye. I find this limit extortion honestly and I hope someone had this problem and can provide steps on fixing it.

    Thank you

    Ryan LeBlanc

Thank you for your answer, but the answer you provided is for a question that is different from what I was living. Your link has solved a problem with someone who has the taskbar pop up when their mouse/cursor passes over. My problem was to have a drop down of the taskbar appear whenever I type left Alt + 1/2/3/4 etc.

However, I have since fixed. If there is anyone else out there with this problem, it's a hardware problem with my keyboard. I couldn't get anyone to recreate my problem by pressing left Alt + 1, etc. (although you can recreate my problem to click with the right button on a program in the task bar), so I reset my left Alt key. After resetting my left Alt key this problem does occur more (yay)

    Thank you

  • Disable all the smoothing of the fonts in Windows 7 (ie: including the taskbar, menus, Control Panel, etc...)

I would like to turn off completely all the fonts, straightening, smoothing, etc... on Windows 7. I struggle to read and it gives me a headache.

Here's what I've tried so far:

    1. go to Windows 7 Basic theme. (No Aero).
    2. run the ClearType tuner. (It did not help. "I want to delete the font smoothing, not tweak it.)
3 disable ClearType altogether. (Taskbar, menus, etc. are still sleek/anti-aliasing).
4 unchecked "smooth edges of screen fonts" performance-> Visual effects. (The taskbar, help, Board policies, etc. remain smoothed).
5 changed all my fonts Tahoma under personalize-> Windows Color
6 using the regedit, added "Tahoma" as the first option under HKLM-> software-> Microsoft-> Windows NT-> current-> FontSubstitutes
7 delete all fonts in/Windows/Fonts Segoe (had to take possession to do)
8 deleted almost all foreign fonts in/Windows/Fonts (I was frustrated...)
    9. I tried to play with HKCU-> Panel-> Desktop-> FontSmoothingType (1 and 0) and FontSmoothing (1 and 0).
10 tried to run my laptop to a non-native resolution (which makes even worse)

The steps above has removed most fonts smoothing, the taskbar, dialogue, Control Panel, etc. boxes are still sleek/anti-aliasing. So far, the only way I found to completely turn off all smoothing is to switch to classic mode, which is unfortunate to delete any visual styles either. In short, I want Win7 fonts to render in a mode binary/full pixelated, with no blur rendering or subpixel gray.

    Help, please!

    Hi Ken,
I hope that the typography of Win 7 team makes this optional 'functionality' of SP1. I'm holding out until then. But if you insist on using 7 before smoothing fonts is fixed, here's how to deal with registry fonts substitutes and UAC/protection system.
Change under FontSubstitutes registry settings so that "Tahoma" appears before Segoe in all parameters of FontSubstitute. Then, appropriating the Windows directory (I took possession of all subdirectories and files, that may be excessive, but made other tweaking easier to deal with) delete Segoe. To appropriate, right-click on the Windows system folder, select 'Properties', click Security, advanced options, and then clik on owner in the advanced security settings... Click the button modify and change of owner to your own account. Do some "replace the subcontainer owner...". "is checked.
It is an exaggeration, but it will get.
    R5N
P.S. If someone figure out how to remove the font smoothing in the taskbar for Win 7, I praise you for all time.
