Disable windows moblility

Is there a way to disable the windows on my dell Mobility Center. It is constantly popping up. Very aggrivating.

Hi Epirner,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community Forums.

From your post it seems that you are facing problems with Windows Mobility Center and you want to disable.

Quick questions:

  1. Which edition of Windows that you are using?
  2. What is the problem you're having with windows Mobility Center?

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

You can check the question in a clean boot State.

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 3 of the KB article provided above.

Now, let's try the following steps to disable Windows Mobility Center.

Method 1:

(a) click Start, type gpedit.msc and press ENTER

(b) expand User Configuration: Configuration-> administrative templates user-> Windows components-> Windows Mobility Center

(c) in the right pane, right-click on disable Windows Mobility Center and click Edit.

(d) to disable the Windows Mobility Center

(e) select the enable option.

(f) click OK.

(g) close the local Group Policy Editor window.

If you don't have gpedit.msc in your computer, you can follow the below mentioned steps to disable through the Registry Editor:

NOTE:

Trying the two steps below Windows Mobility Center will be disabled and you won't be able to use it. In order to use it again, you will need to you follow the same steps instead of activate, you select Disable option e.

Note: Group Policy Editor is only present on these versions of Windows 7, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 ultimate and Windows 7 Enterprise.

Method 2:

Using the registry editor

Important:

The below mentioned method contains steps that tell you how to change the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/back-up-the-registry

(c) right click the key "Mobility Center" to create a new DWORD (32-bit)

(d) name of the value as "NoMobilityCenter".

(e) double-click the new value to set the value to 1

(f) restart the computer and check.

    Hi Tedwards78,

Windows updates are important for your safety and reliability of computers. Microsoft does not recommend disabling updates.

You can hide some updates which you don't want to install but, disable windows update is not wise.

    Hi BurrowD,

Thank you for using answers Forum.

Are what McAfee/Windows problem you referring?

You can prevent some programs from startup to startup Vista by checking to see if there is a shortcut in the startup folder by clicking Start > all programs > startup. You can safely delete or move icons on the desktop to run when you want.

You can prevent some positions loading using MSConfig, this is however not the recommended procedure.
You can click on start and type msconfig in the search field and click on the entry that appears near the top.
Then click on the Startup tab.

    I hope this helps.

My sons laptop got stolen, if he can disable windows XP from another computer, so when the computer is turned on, no one can use the operating system

The short answer is no other post recommend that you ask the laptop on your insurance. It of a good idea to install prey or other protection software against theft on portable computers that will allow you to lock the remote computer and follow where it was stolen. However, even these measures will not help if the thief erases the hard drive and re - install Windows.

I have two mapped network drives. When I hove the mouse over a folder, windows want to browse all folders and subfolders to count the total number of files, folders, size. It is causing a lot of unnecessary network traffic. I can't disable Windows to display information in the folder Option, but it still scans in the background.

    Here is an example:
Folder1 has three subfolders, each containing three subfolders. When I hover over Folder1, it scans everything what it, same thing when I click in the folder, it scans everything, in all of the subfolders, files.

However if I use cmd and I cd\folder1 it scans only the next level which is three files, and so forth causing much less network traffic.

  • Microsoft Security Essentials disables Windows Defender in Vista?

Can error 0x800106ba on any attempt to open code I Defender. I also acquired McAfee at some point, but I uninstalled it hundreds of years ago but I still have the same error message whenever I try to open Windows Defender. Help, please

It is not fair to McAfee posing problem with the Defender:

    Windows Defender:

If you have Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, McAfee, Norton, etc. installed, they have a conflict with Windows Defender, or turn it off.

Microsoft Security Essentials has its own integrated version of the defender and should automatically disable the version of Vista in Windows Defender.

    If it's not:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/turn-Windows-Defender-on-or-off

Turn Windows Defender on or off the information on the link above of Microsoft.

Hope the above explains the common compatibility issues with Windows Defender and other security programs.

    See you soon.

Hello, just to be sure I have the correct information, Windows Defender lights not in Windows Vista with Microsoft Security Essentials, as Essentials has its own version of the Defender.  The error code I received is the same as the previous posts in which is: 0x800106ba.  Again, just to be sure, I understand, I should stop trying to turn Defender because Security Essentials has covered it, okay?

    Hello

Yes; Microsoft Security Essentials should disable Windows Defender for the reasons you mentioned.

If she didn't turn it off, you should manually have to do it anyway.

    This information explains Microsoft explained:

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/protect/Forum/MSE-protect_start/Windows-Defender-and-Microsoft-Security-Essentials/5309cb8d-02e1-40E8-974f-0dcedb9ab9fd

Q: is - this installation of Microsoft Security Essentials (XP/Vista/7) disable Windows Defender?
    A:
Microsoft Security Essentials should disable Windows Defender in Vista and Windows 7, and then uninstall it from XP. In some cases, this does not happen automatically.

Q: what happens if I do not disable or uninstall Windows Defender, if I use Microsoft Security Essentials (XP/Vista/7)?
A: If Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender are both running, your system can know the performance degradation and other problems caused by the conflict of two services providing real-time protection at the same time.

are you sure it's a legitimate version of the Defender you try to turn it off?

There are various Malware autour programs using the Defender name

read this information on the Defender:

    ·                         If you use microsoft security essentials avg avira mcafee norton etc they disable the vista version of windows defender by default

the basics of Microsoft security has its own version of windows defender

It of nothing to worry and is the default action, which is designed for them to do
