Disk configuration optimal (I know I know)

Hi, I've been through a lot of forum posts and read the guide to tweak for the suggested disk configuration. I understand that everyone is different and would just check my plan is optimal for what I have.

Currently my system configuration:

CPU: I7 - 4790 LGA 1150 K

MB: MSI X 97

RAM: 32GB

VIDEO: GTX 980 (have 2 but will sell such that there seems to be no advantage without CPU high range possibly)

HD1: MX550 Crucial 256 GB or 512 GB (purchase intent)

HD2: Samsung 840 Pro 128GB

HD3: Samsung 850 Pro 256GB

HD4: Samsung 850 Pro 256GB

HD5: WD 2 TB Black

HD6: WD Black 1 TB

Based on the guide to tweak for the number of discs that I have, I should their RAID, but the problem is that they are not similar type/size and the LGA 1150 may be limited to an external RAID solution? In addition, software RAID can be problematic too?

I'm especially start with video editing and it's fun, but my attempts on my laptop low power gave me a long wait times/UN-viewable reading/crashes, so why I am trying to build a somewhat appropriate system. Currently, I'm only GoPro 2.7 K and raw footage of 1080 p and I hope perhaps soaking with images 4 K of a Panasonic GH4 (once I bought the camera hah) if my system takes care of everything. I don't plan to have my final exports longer than 5 minutes at the moment. Given current HW, I intend to configure the disks as follows:

Operating system and the programs -> HD1: MX550 Crucial 256 GB or 512 GB (not really play the games, but can try some, I know they say to clean your machine of editing)

Media cache and previews -> HD3: Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB (size will be sufficient for what I intend to treat?)

Project files -> HD4: 850 Pro 256 GB Samsung (once the project is finished, transfer to HD5: WD Black 2 TB)

Media Source files -> HD4: Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB (as a direct import from the camera to work with SSD speed, then once the project is finished, transfer everything to HD5: WD Black 2 TB)

Export -> HD2: Samsung 840 Pro 128 GB (as a direct export of rendering, and then transfer the file to HD5: WD Black 2 TB)

Backup of the HD1 and some media -> HD6: WD Black 1 TB

My thought to work on the SSD is first to get SSD speed, and then transfer them to the bigger HARD drive for backup, and the finished product. Would put HD3: Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB and HD4: Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB in RAID SW 0 be better for the Cache/previews of media and project files and then assign HD5: WD Black 2 TB for the Source of media files?

I'm seeing what I can get with what I have to work with the best configuration, and if there is a significant performance gain by changing the configuration a bit by adding another drive, or so, I consider that also. Thank you very much for your time and help in advance!

Wow, interesting and expensive record collection!

Do not buy the essential! I like critical readers, but you have a great opportunity to buy a 850 Pro always for one SSD RAID 0 array. My suggestion:

Boot/OS programs / = 128 GB Pro 840 - a bit small, but delete put into hibernation and it will do just fine

Data drive (and Windows cache) = 3 x 256 GB 850 Pro RAID array 0 (Intel ports - SATA III would be great, but even if your MB only SATA II RAID Intel ports very well happen)

You can use two of WD for storage, backups, etc.

In Adobe, set the 'other programs' (not Adobe) 6 GB memory if you have a lot of setting cached RAM for Windows disk.

Many will tell you that RAID'ing SSD is ridiculous, exaggerated, any faster, must have readers separated for reads/writes, blah, blah, blah, etc..

They are impressive and are really nice with Adobe Premiere Pro.

Jim

PS - the 'old' PC, I am writing this email on has a range 0 5 SSD RAID x assembled 3 years ago, and its still humming along pretty well--fast and never miss a beat. My new build has a x 8 matrix RAID 0 on it - Yes, that's an exaggeration, but it must always be well big enough and fast enough for my needs of data for the next 3 years at least

  • Yet another question of disk configuration

I know that this has been discussed ad nauseum, but I am confused on some points and need advice on disk configuration. I just ordered a laptop that has a 256 gb msata ssd + two other SSD of 256 MB and a removable 7200 RPM 750 GB drive in the optical drive slot. So I will, indeed, have four disks (3-256 gb SSD & 1-7200 RPM HD). I know that the general concepts between dedicating different disks for OS / programs, scratch disk, make media player, &, but after reading suggestions from Adobe, manual first and forums, I'm not clear on the fixed assets can be placed on removable drive and what assets I can return the drive 7200 RPM to optimize the Assembly & rendering speed for the global configuration of disk? First manuals I've read everything it say to not place scratch them files on a removable disk, & of course I use the removable drive to OS & programs - that render leaves or media for 7200 RPM disk. Which would be best?

    Hello Daniel,.

Thanks for posting your query on Microsoft Community forum.

According to the description you get the error Boot Configuration data (BCD). I totally agree with you that, in order, to rebuild the Boot Configuration data (BCD) we need the installation media.

If you do not have any other computer to create the installation media, then it is best to contact the manufacturer of your computer instead to buy Windows from outside. If your computer is under warranty, they can provide you with the ERD free of charge or at minimal cost.

If you manage to organize other computers or repair disk, try the steps below. You can try to create installation media by following the steps described in the article mentioned below.

To create installation media Windows 8.1

    • Boot from the DVD of Windows 8.
    • Click repair your computer.
    • Click Troubleshooting , and then select Advanced Options.
    • Click on command prompt and type the following commands and press enter after each command:

    Bootrec /fixmbr

    Bootrec /fixboot

    Bootrec /rebuildbcd

    • Restart the computer.
    • Check if the problem persists.

Get back to us with your question was last updated. We will be more than happy to help you.

  • Just bought a new MacBook pro to replace my old PC.  I have 4 LR on disk and LR 5 upgrade disk and need to know how to load LR on my new Macbook Pro.  Also how can I transfer photos?

I'm not very good with computers and need help.  My 4 LR and LR 5 upgrade are on the disc, but do not use my new MacBook Pro drive.  How can I load LR on my new computer?  Also, how to make photos of LR on my old computer to the new computer?

You can download Lightroom via the link below.  If you just want to install the upgrade version 5 that you don't need to install first - 4 you probably just provide the serial number for this, when you activate 5.

  • My XP computer keeps saying that I have a low disk space when I know that I have not

What is the processor and RAM how much your computer have? Make a right-click on the icon my computer on your desktop and select properties for this information.

Try Ctrl + Alt + Delete, select Task Manager, and then click the performance tab. Under Commit Charge, which is the Total, limit, and the pic?

I'd be interested to see a report of Disk Defragmenter. Open Disk Defragmenter and click analysis. Select view report, and then click Save as and save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents folder. Open the file, and place the cursor anywhere in the file, select Edition, select all to select all the text and copy and paste into the body of your message. To do this, before you run Disk Defragmenter because it is more informative.

Select Start, all programs, accessories, System Tools, cleaning disk to emptying your trash, delete temporary Internet files and other selected options. I recommend also you click Other Options, System Restore and delete all but the last system restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter.

Using the system restore option is most appropriate when your system is slow and you need to increase the free disk space on your C partition. If you have errors that could be solved by using the system restore to your system settings back to before the error occurred initially do not use this option.

If more than one person uses the computer and they have their own user log you need to run Disk Cleanup in each user profile that you want to delete all the unwanted files.

A better program of disk cleanup is cCleaner. Delete System Restore points may be important if you have little free disk space. The ability to delete them is one of the tools options. You can selectively remove those created in less important moments.

cCleaner comes with a registry tool. Do not use this tool as any registry cleaner could lead to the creation of very difficult to resolve system errors.

Also make it Performance vs that memory seems to make no difference visit once. It is better to select on the other? I use dynamic linking a lot so I don't know if that makes a difference in what either.

I know that all these information is found in various discussions in the forum, but I get conflicting info I read through them.

One last question. Do a restart before exporting? I could spend hours doing effects and cuts, and I fear that the RAM is a little full, so I reboot before I did because it gives me a warm fuzzy, but is it really necessary?

Have a look here: Forums Adobe: generic guideline for the installation disc and look at the installer of three discs.

How is it that would translate to your situation:

    a. get a disk of OS boot & small enough programs, such as the Samsung Spinpoint F4 320 GB. It is then the C: drive in the overview.

    b. use the two raid0 1,000 discs. It would be the D: drive in the preview.

    3. use the two 500 discs in raid0. It would be the drive E: in the preview.

No need to reboot before the export. Prior to export is wise however to save the project.

  • Best hard disk configuration

Hi guys, I'm fairly new APE9 and video editing in general. I see in some positions where you guys suggest to have more than 1 hard drive but no one talks about the actual optimal configuration.

Let's say I have a drive of 500 GB hard run my win7 (C:\), if I add a hard drive of 160 GB in there (D:\) what should I run where?

    Thanks for the tips.

    Welcome to the forum.

With the options you list, here are my thoughts.

If the 160 GB is a bit on the small side, if it's fast, I would actually set up such as the system / boot disk and use the larger scratch discs, media and projects.

The system / boot would have only the OS and programs and probably also to locate the swap file on the larger HARD drive. This last option would be only after the test. In addition, it depends on the number of programs I had installed. With some upper air (including several suites of Adobe), my 200 GB C:\ is used less than half, to 94 GB, and with a clean of emails and Documents, I could probably get that down for ~ 85 GB.

If I have a 3 x 200 GB SATA II/o, I have found that my Page file did slightly better on my E:\, and I managed it statically to 10 GB for my OS Service Pack 3 XP - Pro w / 4 GB RAM max. If you have a 64 bit OS and physical load of RAM, you don't need the Page file to be almost as big.

Now, if your 160 GB is slower, is not as fast a connection type that most great, etc., then all bets would emerge.

I also agree with the diagram that Bob Peru related. I use the suggestions of prejudice when speaking on i/o with a poster.

Also, I think that a 3 e/s x is optimal, with the OS and programs on C:\, media on D:\ and projects + Scratch disks on E:\. If the HARD drive is the same, then D:\ & E:\ can be reversed, their functions, with zero change in what either.

With several HARD drives, we can go out, say exports and makes or maybe Audio separated from the video. For HD media, having a RAID 0, with a dedicated hardware controller will help things, but improving the performance, with more than one configuration of 3 x, will be not that big and when you start to add RAID popular with dedicated controller, especially with the built-in memory cards, price up really quickly.

    Good luck

    Yes

Yes, the old 1 TB HDD are a little thicker, but you can find many new 1 TB HDD now are only 9.5 mm thick

    > > Why the manual that see these four configurations in sets matching?  There are power/cooling/performance issues to consider?

Easy for the RAID configuration I think.  NO.

    > > Also... the DV7 accepts really 12.5 mm into the two slots in the car?  The second drive Bay seems not that thick and I've read elsewhere that the DV7 takes up only 9.5 mm.

As mentioned above, you will find that many of them are now only 9.5 mm thick such as good HDD, following fast:

My neighbor has one of them. It is under warranty and does not start - not found Boot Manager. built in show of diagnosis without fault but the disk hard watch as having 3 partitions - C: about 100 megabytes, about 500 gigabytes D: and E: recovery partition about 3.5 gigabytes. It is marked, the other two are not and do not appear to contain any files. I guess that's the work of a virus. Recovery software will not work - I think not that Windows7 fit in 100 megabytes - but there might be some hope if the disk was repartitioned. My question how should the reader be partitioned? It should be just a more than C: partition recovery partition - or should there be a partition C:, D:, and E: and if so where the limits?

That's exactly the configuration which is expected.

The 100 MB partition is to place some Win7 it there for reserved system use, it does NOT receive a drive letter in a normal system, the 500 GB partition you see must be the Boot/C: partition. The recovery partition usually contains hidden data also.

There is nothing that says whatever it is dirtied with partition sizes, they are correct except for the drive letters.

This can happen if you have a multiboot system, or if there are multiple partitions on the disk.

During the installation of XP, make sure that you select C: as the partition where you want to install the operating system. • XPS 8100, Win7 Pro, 2 Samsung HD103SJ 1 TB of disk configuration RAID 1, bought in 2011

Under the subject line, my XPS 8100 has 2 Samsung HD103SJ drives set up in a RAID 1 configuration. The system was delivered like this at Dell in 2011.

Problem: one of the disks is now a dead bug and I need to replace. If I understand correctly, it's RAID 1 via the BIOS. I don't have a RAID controller card.

Question (s): these HD103SJ discs are almost nonexistent (although I found a site w/6 or more). HD103SJ readers have TLER ability and if so, is it enabled by default or require a software utility for Samsung to do this? As well, do I really need to do, OR could I just replace this drive with a WD1003FZEX (note that WD has disabled or completely removed support TLER for their BLACK discs). All online comments lead me to believe that only WD RED pushes (maybe they should be called 2 x $ because of their HIGH cost players) now have this ability.

Comment: I've been of the opinion (so perhaps wrongly) that only hardware RAID required to have active TLER / set, but I've also read online that MS Win7 requires this setting.

Bottom Line: If someone who reads this has information that would solve this discussion, one way or the other, I would really appreciate it.

    Thank you.

    Hi back,

TLER is not necessary for RAID 1. In fact, you're better without TLER as drive problems will be immediately apparent.

That said, I think only WD drives have TLER. Samsung has something else. But whatever it is, I would say that it is not necessary. Any 1 TB drive will work.
