Disk Image backup

Can you do two images of different computer on a single hard disk drive if you have the room?

Hi Milo,

The technical answer is Yes. But... you need to have a custom boot or USB (using Windows PE) disk to boot from and scripts of the installation of the desired image.

Vista... and 7 for this issue using Windows Imaging, creation of WIM files to store the largest part of which is necessary. You can use the Windows Automated Installation Kit to make what you need.
Here are a few good resources:
Download WAIK:
There is a different if you have SP1 + integrated version. Link at the bottom of page

Good third tutorial
There is a small learning curve, but if you have a business need, it can save you a lot of time in the long run.
I hope this helps.

    Original title: difference between auomatic backups & do your own backups?

    Hi you all,.

    I'm a bit confused about backups, I just got my new mohterboard HPp6320y/win7/improved / 2.7Gz cpu, 64-bit, 8 G - ram. HP offers to immediately burn a recovery-re-boot disk, which I did. Then they strongly suggest to copy a restore disc fictitious system using an external hardrive or external storage such as cd - rw disks, I don't understand if I can burn a shadow of system using my existing internal drive or some other form of storage like USB drives provided that they have sufficient capacity.
    So far, so good, but when I first tried to burn a shadow/system using my existing built in internal disk drive, the only choice in the context menu after clicking "burn the backup of the system" was my internal hardrvie. He did not get a disk, so I dropped back until I could understand if I was doing something wrong and fix it
    I know that my automatic HP backup restore points are made on a regular basis with or without me having to ask, once partition it the space reserved for different backups with full capacity, my system removes the oldest to give room for the new, correct?
    I also know that the purpose of having a shadow system is if your hard drive goes wrong, you can restore your entire OS & the personal data to a new disk, so store in a partition of your works currently hardrive would make no sense if it goes wrong, correct?
    Then why, my system will not burn a shadow on a freshly unpacked well-known R/W disk? (I have 10 of them I bought still packed)
    Do I need to use a drive external remote disc?
    Also, I have a factory built-in removable Pocket media player provided out of my older HPa610n and it holds 160Gs, I have the appropriate connection and it appears therefore as a storage device when I turn on my new current HP. However, when I click Backup a shadow system, it shows that my cd player internal existing as an option where I'm supposed to store my shadow of system. Yet they claim that I can use a USB device, provided that it can contain enough storage, I am really confused and feel a migraine coming!

  • Is there an advantage to having a backup disk image of Macintosh HD (for MacBook Pro) to ease/speed of recovery after a disk failure rather than using Time Machine to recover?

    I'm trying to understand the best way to prepare for the recovery of a failure in the drive for a MacBook Pro.

    I do not understand the nuances of the time Machine - I know from personal experience that it is a recovery tool great when your existing drive is intact and you're just trying to restore a file.  But what happens if the drive has a hardware failure and needs to be replaced?

    Is there an advantage to take periodic images of Macintosh HD for quick recovery (and then using the incremental backups Time Machine to catch up to the current position).  Or Time Machine may facilitate a recovery in case of failure of the disc just as easily/quickly that will give it to have a separate image backup?

    Thanks in advance for your help.

    YES!.  If you have a clone boot disk, you can either connect it to a MBP or Exchange it with the internal HDD failed and be back in business quickly.  Time machine, as good as is, can take several hours to restore your system, depending on the amount of data.

    For cloning, I recommend Carbon Copy Cloner.  It is not free, but it's worth the price:

    https://Bombich.com/

    I use it in conjunction with Time Machine.  (two backups are better than one)

    You try Time Capsule stop and unplug for 1 minute. Then reset the SMC on the iMac by Intel iMac LANDAU and SMC will reset and restart the iMac and restart the TC and retest Time Machine.

  • Copy of the image works only disk based backups?

    DB version: 11.2

    What is the command to SWITCH DATABASE to COPY for?

    In the thread above, I have in the whole of clause SWITCH used with COPY of IMAGE

    Example provided by Julien
    You can also switch a datafile

    for example;

    RMAN>sql ‘alter database datafile 2 offline’;
    RMAN>switch datafile 2 to copy;
    RMAN>recover datafile 2;
    RMAN>sql ‘alter database datafile 2 online’;
    I understand that if you COPY of IMAGE backups and if you lose your data files, you can switch to the image immediately RMAN backup then recovery will be quick.

    So, it means that the COPY of the IMAGE of RMAN cannot be made to the drives (no tapes). Right? That is to say. If it is in the band then
    RMAN>switch datafile 2 to copy;
    will take a while. Right?

    You don't want to go to a copy on tape because the band does not provide random access (and certainly will not support simultaneity)!

    AS a BACKUP COPY can be done on the disc.

  • Cannot open encrypted on Time Machine disk image

    I have an encrypted file protected by password in my Macbook Pro.  The folder name is "Enc.dmg" and is kept in the main Applications folder. If I remove the Time Machine backup before a dmg file, it seems theoretically to save.  But when I later enter Time Machine go to Applications and click on the Enc.dmg file, it opens; It is not mount the disk image and invite me to enter the password.  Instead, a non-functional information is displayed.  The box contains unnecessary information. He tells me it's a dmg file.

    If ever, my computer crashes or is lost or stolen and I can't access my file encrypted on Time Machine, I'll be in big trouble.  Is it possible to actually make a dmg properly function in mode Time Machine?

    You restore the file before trying to open it? It should not open in Time Machine.

  • Can I restore my hard drive of a copy of disk image?

    I'm trying to restore a MacBook (Yosemite) 2008 following an irreparable error in the car and I have a full disk image that I took using utility disk in recovery mode until I wiped it off. (Apparently, yes Carbon Copy Cloner did a better job, but I didn't have that.) Is there a way to use it to recover from, or can I only use it to manually copy files on?

    (I also have a Time Machine backup, or at least I think I do, but I am currently faced with a challenge of system administrator password , so I was wondering if there is an easier alternative since the Macintosh HD.dmg is right there on my external hard drive).

    If you have TM I would use apples as described here:

    Hello

    Thanks for posting in the Forum from HP Support.

    Personally, I have not heard of specific issues with this WD HARD drive. I Googled it and found some non-specific stuff.

    However, to answer your question: in my view, there is no problem with the 1 TB external harddrive to adapt the SSD from below 500 GB. Therefore larger than GB 463, less than 500 GB, 1 TB, it should fit without problems. There is no problem for cloning SSD and HARD drive imaging (the only problem is that it might be a bit slower, but no problem to do so).

    Hi CherylLyme,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

    I would like to take a moment and thank you for using the forum, it's a great place to find answers.

    You have the best experience in the HP forum, I would like to draw your attention to the Guide of the Forums HP first time here? Learn how to publish and more.

    I understand that you did an image backup, and while he was almost done you received the error (0 x 80070003).  Here is a link to a response from Microsoft to help you. Windows backup error 0 x 80070003 (One answer per Vinod N)

    I'm not sure if you would be able to leave and get back on disc 99, because once you have repaired, it will be changed from when you first ran the backup.  The disc that you used only were not read, accessible writing, so you wouldn't be able to reuse them.  You can see that an external hard drive would be a more economical way to make your backups. The data must be in one place and easier to store.  If you decide to use a USB key, so do not more then the 32 GB and won't Windows 8 on it.

    You can probably buy an external drive for on the cost of the replacement of disks.  Here is a link to the HP Shopping external storage , but you can buy one at several places, Office Depot, Staples, Wal-Mart and computer shops are few.  I hope this helps.

  • Windows complete PC Restore on Vista Home Basic, how to create a system disk image

    In the menu system for Vista Home Basic Recovery Options, there is an option to make a "Windows complete PC Restore". I couldn't find something that was talking about creating an "image" of my system drive. Only the options to back up the disks. • Multiple operating systems. How to get the double boot or sort and what's on the disk images?

    Hello. I currently have Windows XP Home Edition on my desktop. I have an update for Windows Vista Home Premium. Both are 32-bit. I read this linkhttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista. I have a few questions, I would like to precise please.

    Can I add the upgrade to Vista on a separate hard drive? Is there a partition?

    Do I need to install any other program infront of XP or Vista so I can dualboot? I have to if I wanted to add Win7 Home Premium 64 - bit as a bunch of sorting?

    I'm not pure install, I understand that. I'm done with my XP havn't programs, it takes more time than expected.

    Is it possible to create disk images or backups with more than one operating system installed? If I have an upgrade, I don't think that I can remove the previous installed OS (XP Home Edition) and have a Vista disk image work. At least I have clean install and only Vista is? I have Norton Ghost 15 and I wondered if I would be able to drive or backup XP image or upgrading to Vista at all, or together.

    Can an upgrade copy, I change the material at all, or add anything internally?

    XP SP3 on the desktop.

    Hello

    Yes, you need XP on your drive hard first to use the dual boot with Vista, after the restoration of ghosting for 2 hard drives.

    If you only want Vista on the PC, then you will need to use your Vista installation disk to repair and install files on the hard disk Vista.

    As for the reactivation, you should be able to activate again within 3 days on the internet, you may need to phone MS if you can't.

    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4
    (2) press the ENTER"" key.
    (3) select your "country" in the list.
    (4) choose the option "activate phone".
    (5) stay on the phone and waiting for someone to help you with activation.

    Your XP disk is more then likely an OEM version, which means that it is linked to the computer it was installed on.

    So your Vista upgrade could also be tied to the PC you are upgrading to.

    Please keep in mind that my answer is based on the information in your message. More the better I can answer, Slan go foill, Paul
